Prof. Kang should do more interviews. He's one of the few mainstream Korea experts that isn't a total and complete stooge of the "Washington blob", unlike so many of the Neocon buffoons that get public airtime.
Still, whether it's due to his prestigious position and professional standing or maybe it's his genuine conviction, he still seems overly careful about criticizing US foreign policy in regards to the Koreas.
The underlying assumption in these kinds of discussion typically seems to be that Washington has Korea's best interest in mind. Very clearly and obviously, it does not. The so-called US/Korea alliance is not an alliance but an imperial/vassal relationship.
I appreciate the endeavors of the podcasters, but the talk about "American democracy" and similar platitudes is very naive and dangerous as well.
The best thing SKorea can do is get out from under the thumb of US hegemony and become a sovereign state, finally. But as long as the status quo continues, the Koreas will never achieve peace because the US will not allow it. SKorea will always serve as a forward US military colony and quislings like Yoon will croon to American pie.
