i always use trans fluid on rings and use cast rings. also the tubes on the heads around the spark plugs i throw away they ran for years without them and no water and trash got down there and made them hard to remove.
I haven't gotten rid of my spark plug boost isolation tubes but yeah in the rust belt which i live in they are definitely a pain in the ass,as are the sbc exhaust shields I've cut myself about 5 different times on those arms, fingers hands, side of my leg so I've knocked several sets of them off and Oldsmobile as well
You know what's funny about your oil fill cap situation. My 5.9 gas Dodge came with no oil fill cap on it, it had two passenger side valve covers, and it had basically no oil in it. Still put a few hundred miles on it before I realized that lol
My grandpa had a lower mileage very decent Indiana 97 club cab long bed 5.9 360 magnum V8 2wd and it went to almost 141k before the oil was checked yep it has a oil change when he traded for it, and then after a year of running it but it doesn't seem to use oil or burn it so it actually went that long without being checked after oil change,i myself would not do that
Magnum every crank main has hole that runs up to oil the cam bearings. it is way easier to install cam bearing with the block upside down with the crank out of the block you can shine a light down the oil hole to see if the cam bearing is in far enough and lined up. also roller lifter oil up the push rods to the rocker arms.
Put cam bearing in it or chance low oil pressure a real good chance. Also the brass bushing under the distributor that the oil pump drive rides on They’re cheap as well . I’ve built a lot of these over the years.
I've heard the heads are usually cracked and I would need to replace them if I pulled them. It's kept me from rebuilding mine with 345k on it. Did you think that is true?

Hey I could be wrong but I think your timing is 180 degrees out. I believe the cam sprocket mark should be in the 6 o clock position and the crank sprocket should be in the 12 o clock position to be accurate. Can someone please chime in on this? Also I’ve never had good luck with stock cork gaskets on the intake china walls after doing cylinder head work, if it leaks oil from there I would take those out and put a good 3/16 to 1/4 bead of silicon in place of those cork gaskets and it will never leak.
when you have the intake off you should reseal the intake lower bolt on plate they can get a leak and cause a rough running condition there's a old tsb about it. good video otherwise!

Well only 14,xxx in the world makes them kinda rare. But lately as they reach 25-30 years old, I'm noticing all the 5.2 got wrecked and 5.9s are still out tthere. I've got one of every color lol
