I watch this and the landscape version a lot. What about getting new judges?!? These three are starting to make the show stale, whereas the artists never fail to fascinate.
She deserves it! Saw hers when she was competing against Christian hook. I loved Hooks work but hers as well. It stood out so much! I’m happy she finally got this!
I don’t know if the judges have maybe gotten too into their worlds of always wanting something fresh or quirky that they pick works that have clearly been unintentional mistakes on the artist’s parts for whatever reason. Even the artist knows it’s full of mistakes. Some of them were also muddy. So, yeah, I’d say the judges need to get, funnily enough, fresh perspectives on their own methods.
I agree. Sometimes I think they pick pieces just to be seen as trend setting , but it isn't necessary. Call me old fashioned ,but to me a portrait should be conventional. It should look as much like the person as possible, and whilst it shouldn't flatter them, there is nothing wrong in it being 'sweet' as they so derisively call it. Frank mentioned it being left to descendants: are they going to have Any idea what their ancestor really looked like, from some of the things churned out in this show? But, hey, the judges like it because it is the current fad, so they are stuck with great great great uncle and his blue nose or great great aunt resembling a wading bird, all thrusting beak and neck
I am surprised that Kate, who is representing MODERN art perspective on this show, cannot see the brilliance behind Conor’s self portrait with his son; a tongue in cheek allusion to classical art yet with a bit of humour and a bit of drama thrown in.
Hmm they all paint far better then I . I loved the charcoal one of the lady and the ones the people picked for themselves. Doesn’t the producer only highlight the artists chosen by the judges and cut out the others? So one can almost know who the winner is .
The judges are driving me mad. They are so full of themselves and their world that they cannot see a beautiful likeness if it fell on them from the balcony. The pencil drawing of Sharon Corr was absolutely beautiful, but the thought it was too sweet. What nonsense. I think they need to let some lesser work through so they can have something to eliminate in further rounds.
People who don't know how to paint a drape/dress participating in a national level competition? Absurd that judges would worry if participants can paint a sheer dress! Is the level so low ?
I really hate the judges and their stupid comments. "the notions of symbolist art..." what a load of shit. the artists are worth watching. If they got rid of these talentless judges I'd love the show.
Connor Walton's portrait was amazing.
She totally deserved it!!! Just amazing work the whole way through!
Onya just stunned me as she finished her portrait, finally working on the eyes & it was perfect!

The portrait in watercolor is brilliant ❤
Conor should've taken the prize IMO. But great work overall!
Portraits are the hardest thing for me to paint by far. I love these shows. These artists are amazing.
The charcoal was incredible

If anyone interrupted me the way these experts do, I’d have a problem!
People go on TV for the prestige, money and notoriety…it’s part of the competition to have the commentators speak to the participants!
I wouldn’t want to subjugate my work like that.
Thanks for uploading...Ah, the memories!
Your work is outstanding.
@@1rewd133 Thanks!
Yours was my favorite
@@bethjepson3250 Awwww, thanks!
The charcoal was the best in my view.
40:47 I concur. These judges are out of their minds for passing that kid up.

The "mistakes" sometime are less mistakes than one think. Knowing what to keep lose and not tighten up requires skill.
I was watching this episode and suddenly thought that I would love to paint a portrait of Kate Brian. She is gorgeous!
Yep, she got my vote!

Some modern art people have a nearly instinctive repulsion to anything that have baroque traces.
I think that the watercolour artist really deaserved it
Art is subjective! You can't please everyone 😊
So strange...I was cooking and had merely tiny glimpses when right away ai guessed Anyein (sp?) would be the winner. Lol I surprised myself!
Nice !
Mark❤️❤️❤️❤️
Awww, thanks!

What happens to the paintings the judges do not choose? Do the artists get to keep them?
So alent so unique bro
Ya!!
2014 in case anyone but me needs to know.

Again, no info on the year and episode, the page admins ignore our requests.
indeed... guess its season 5 since its produced in 2014
colin who?... what's his last name, i mean, please?...
I wish this was actually a new video instead of one from several years ago.
I agree that mark's was better than cole's. But I also think Aine's deserved to go through.
Art shouldn't be a contest.
Wh people keep trying to compete on this with graphite pencil? Graphite is the SLOWEST of all medium. It is like going to a bike race without a bike.

Wrong choice.
They never, never, never pick the best artist. Why bother to watch?
This episode might be the least agreeable of all in terms of the top 3. It's quite off putting to say the least.
Another one, where I totally disagree on the finalist they chose 🫤
