Timeless Tales was my childhood. The bit with the bird might be a reference to a French version of the story, Madame D'aulnoy's "L'oiseau bleu," where a prince is cursed into a blue bird and visits a princess locked in a tower by her stepmother.
8:34 There was a second of these called "Snow White Meets Rapunzel," where the prince is Snow White's son, who meets Rapunzel while seeking a bride. The prince gets it into his head to learn to fly to get Rapunzel free, and I mean flapping his arms flying. He eventually succeeds, surprisingly enough, but discovers that a different prince simply used a ladder to rescue her. The short ends in a bad pun.
Fun Fact: Before 2002's Barbie as Rapunzel film, there was a computer game in 1997 entitled Barbie Magic Fairy Tales: Barbie as Rapunzel. It makes its own changes to the source material, including one interesting change when it comes to the prince being blinded. But overall, it sticks closer to the fairy tale than its movie counterpart.
I recognized the fairy tales for every child character designs for this one immediately, even though I only ever saw it once! I remembered Rapunzel having brown hair and thinking that it was cool they made her different from the usual golden-haired Rapunzel. Also they had a whole song about how the witch was a Voodoo Diva or something 🤔
I think the simsala one about Rapunzel being a sorceress is inspired by it's Italian version, Petrosinella by Giambattista Basile where she 's being learned "magic arts" from the mother gothel (or the ogress in the Italy version's case)
2:05 moral of the story. Never fatshame your abductor. Also, could you rank every version jack and the beanstalk? (Including tom and Jerry version which is the best verison)
You know, there's also a version of Rapunzel entitled Rapunzel's Revenge, which is a graphic novel set in the Wild West. Also, I'm very amazed that the lovely and late Olivia Newton John hosted her own show about Fairy Tales!
Maybe Holly & Poppy are auburn instead of blond because of their father you know ? Like Apple White being blond, they are not the actual character, they are their children-
My favorite Rapunzel are Barbie, Disney, Fairy tale police Department, Happily ever after: FTFEC, Happily N'ever after, Once upon a zombie and Regal academy.
Thanks for the re-uploads. I love the Rapunzels from Ever After High, Disney, Regal Academy, Shrek, and Barbie the most, too! Btw, did we somehow skipped vol 9 of your fairy tale characters comparisons? Or was it a mis-type?
In the first version of the fairy tale, Petrosinella she is indeed described with golden hair and that usually refers to blonde hair. But I always thought Holly and Poppy got their hair color from their father as the prince's hair color is never mentioned in the fairy tale
Seeing Disney Rapunzel's concept art with a crossbow, I kinda wish she appeared to be a bit more jagged, hidinf her excitement ans innocence behind cynicism thanks to Gothel (though this works best contrasted with Bastion rather than Flynn).
The Rapunzel from Shrek makes me think of the audio clip from Totally Spies that went viral on TikTok “Oh My God She’s *BALLED!….* She’s balled and she’s torturing people that have hair!!!” 😭🤣🤣🤣
Hello, I was just curious if you did live action as well or just animated on the comparisons, cause there’s also once upon a time. Also are you doing a comparison on the villains or prince as well?
After Moana 2 disney should reboot Thumbelina 1994 in CGI animation with sabrina carpenter as the voice of thumbelina and with Alex Aiono as the voice of prince cornelius with Alan Menken and Barry Manilow to compose the new music and songs✨🧚♀🌱🌷🎵
@@RambleMaven yeah but disney can't bend over backwards to obey fans demanding that they make a movie from a long time ago and they won't remake don bluth films into disney films.
I think you missed some of the fairytales from the super readers show. Like little red riding hood, sleeping beauty, the swan princess, and of course rapunzel.
It's a bummer you never end up liking the Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics episodes since I love those probably because I grew up on them. Though there were episodes we didn't get back then, they've since released all the episodes on dvd recently though. The two episodes that I ended up liking the most or that stood out to me the most is the one about the nine tailed fox who fakes his death to see if his wife is faithful and the one about All Kinds of Fur I believe the name was. That one is about a princess whose father went mad after her mother's death and wants to marry her because she's the only one who is as pretty as her mother and she keeps refusing him until she tells him if he can make her four special outfits she's sure he'll never find the materials of then she'll marry him. He ends up doing it she gets scared takes the outfit and flees and he ends up dying mad. The real story then starts when she's wearing the all kinds of fur outfit an entire outfit/cloack/coat with a hood made of all types of animal fur. She's then found by the prince and his hunting party and he feels sorry for the girl who seems to not talk and brings her back to work as a servant and while she's there she ends up going to his ball in her three different outfits on three different days no one realizing she's the same girl as she's never seen without her all kinds of fur. She ends up leaving if I recall each time because she has ptsd of her father demanding she marry him when the prince talks about romance and marriage. Then she goes to the next one then happens again then the next one. Eventually there's a happy ending and I thought the ending was quite cute at the last minute.
While Tangled is my favorite, I also have a soft spot for the Barbie and Tales From Around The World versions. Kind of similar to how even though Rankin Bass' Rudolph is my favorite, I also love the Fleischier and Lessons for Life versions of Rudolph.
Disney and Barbie are both number 1 for me - I had huge phases for both around the time they both released; so I could never pick. I remember as a little kid being *really* annoyed by the revolution that Rapunzel ‘twist’ (does it really count as a twist when all the classic princesses were kinda jerks lol); since Rapunzel was one of my favourite fairytales. As an adult, I think it’s so smart and fun. Considering the fact that at the time in 2007 Rapunzel was the only famous princess Disney didn’t have an adaptation for - heck, even Cinderella’s stepsister already had her redemption arc in both versions, and Fiona can easily be a stand in for Beauty and the Beast. The petty mean girl insecure side of the character was such an interesting direction to take. I really wish we got to see more of her. Maybe a Shrek 5 cameo? 😆
Personnally I like that not all Rapunzels are blond. One things with the fairytales a is that you have generally many liberties to imagine how the characters are.
@@viviennemorgan7217 even before tangled in theaters since Shrek is first, I like the idea the fairytale of well-known Rapunzel is not only entitlement spoiled princess but made her a villain is something I never thought of at the time

At least we got cassandra's backstory of why gothel abandons her only daughter.
_Barbie Rapunzel_ has really nothing to do with the "Rapunzel" fairy tale, as her having very long hair is utterly pointless. The only thing it's used for is a disguise for Gothel. It's not like waist-length hair in a distinct style wouldn't have worked just as well.
I loved Disney's Rapunzel so much but that stupid TV show made me hate her so much. She is so horrible to her true love and I think she doesn't deserve him anymore. And I hate the most that disney had to ruin such a romantic fairy tale and its message Just because of toxic modern feminism snd because they hate romance nowadays.
Oops! Guess when I was writing Barbie in the rankings I accidentally wrote B!
BTW Who’s the next fairy tale character?
Happy 14th Anniversary to Disney’s Tangled and Rapunzel!
Yesssss 💜

Ooo for Christmas you should definitely ranked every Clara

OMG I loved Timeless Tales, nostalgia! Thank you.
Get the DVD with Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin and Thumbelina if you can, it's rare but worth it
Timeless Tales Rapunzel my beloved!
You should do mulan or the frog princess next
I knew disney would be first, so i had to cross my fingers on Barbie being 2nd

By calling it "golden stair", it pretty much confirms Rapunzel is blonde. Disney's Rapunzel is a natural brunette.
Rank animated Dorothy’s next.
Look at Strawberry Shortcake. The 2003 show did Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. While the CGI show did Cinderella and Snow White.
The Rapunzel from Shrek makes me think of the audio clip from Totally Spies that went viral on TikTok “Oh My God She’s *BALLED!….* She’s balled and she’s torturing people that have hair!!!” 😭🤣🤣🤣
I just scrolled down and realized someone else put it already 🤣 glad I wasn’t the only one that thought of this 😂😂
is there anything about rapunzel painting in the original story or is it just a coincidence that both barbie and disney have her as a painter?
Hey, I noticed that too!
oh my gosh i remember seeing that barbie's rapunzel and disney's rapunzel are just princesses being kidnapped by 2 witches.
Omg Simsala Grimm was my childhood, also I'm surprised you didn't include Cloe as Rapunzel from Bratz Kidz
What about Don Bluth's Rapunzel from the Scissor Sisters's "Mary"?

Why didn’t you add Super Monsters, Strawberry Shortcake or Super why! 😭

How about comparing and ranking the fairy tale guys. Like beast or Puss in boots, pinocchio,Aladdin or rumpelstiltskin?

Rumpelstiltskin is coming soon. Thinking about doing Aladdin

Most Disney movies took inspirations for the original story and changed some parts up to make the movie kid-friendly

When will do Dorothy, it’s Wicked season.
FTFEC’s version is giving me Proud Family vibes
