I have this remote, let me tell you how to use it. Take it and throw it as hard as you can against the cement and go buy a universal remote with back lighting so you can see the buttons when you're watching TV at night in the dark.
I have my Samsung sound bar as a device. How do I turn it on with the magic remote? When I press the red power button, only the TV comes on and I have to use the sound bar remote to power the sound bar on. I enjoyed your tips and tricks.
I'm trying to find a "last channel" button that would allow me to jump between two shows. I can use my cable box remote for that but I would prefer to do everything with the Magic remote whenever possible. Thanks. I enjoyed the video.
Unfortunately I don't use live tv/terrestrial tv on my set so haven't ever needed this. I know that built in apps do have this functionality so I'm sure the live tv section should also have an option for this.

Show all devices is during the setup process, if it’s already added you’ll need to remove it before re adding it to see the full list of devices (if that makes sense).
It’s only available in certain inputs/apps, you press the 3 dots next to the 0 button and if it’s available in that app/input it’ll say it in the menu, otherwise it’s not supported and will just show the rest of the mini menu.

That doesn’t capture it, when you press it, it presents a menu and in that menu there’s an option to capture screen, but only for certain apps and inputs, it doesn’t show on everything. I think you will also need relevant storage setup via either usb or Nas drive
I have a 65”C9 with Magic Remote. Also, downloaded TH-cam app to iPhone and iPad. Phone and pad screens are much easier to navigate. Plus, the remote guide shows 400-500 channels (many duplicates) instead of 85. Why are they so different? I understand the basics of the remote buttons, but navigation is much more complicated than on iPhone and iPad. Can you explain some of my problems?
@@MATechTH-cam I have since, with much experimentation & practice, learned to navigate with the Magic Remote. It’s too bad there is no detailed guide for new users. Also, a good “search” capability would be nice. I basically ignore the guide button with its 400+ channels because I have no interest in most of them. Thanks for your offer.

You have to set that up in the home dashboard to allow the remote to control other devices and then it will prompt you when you switch inputs whether you’d like to control that device when you switch to it. I only use Apple TV with mine and it allows me to control that fully with the magic remote.
Any thoughts why the cursor (pointer) has disappeared on my TV? I have tried re-registering my remote and pressing all buttons, but nothing makes it appear. If I shake the remote it does not show either. However the highlighted area on screen moves as I move the remote! As if it's responding where I point it. Any help please? Thanks.
Possibly a damaged remote? Go into the settings and change the pointer speed and see if it works at different speeds (slow, normal, fast). Not sure if it’s possible to diagnose it without being in front of a tv, but try contacting LG and see what they think. Someone else asked me about this recently and as I’ve never had that issue it’s not something I’ve looked into being completely honest
@@MATechTH-cam Wow v/quick reply thanks. I assume you mean if it then moves the highlight differently? No not really. Hard to direct the highlight anyway, as it jumps around and pointer speed setting doesn't seem to change that.

I may be wrong but I think it does use a gyroscope as well as a infrared pointer as when I keep the end of my remote pointing at the tv it’s more accurate than when it’s pointing just straight up (if that makes sense) so possibly something may be broken in the remote so it’s not triggering correctly. I would also try unplugging the tv and doing a full shutdown and also remove and reinstall the batteries in the remote just in case it’s a software glitch before troubleshooting further.
@@nandrews10000 did a quick search and this came up: I had the same problem with my cursor not displaying but every other buttons worked fine on my new LG OLED TV. I discovered quite by accident that if you are using the "Audio Assist" function, THE CURSOR DISPLAY IS DISABLED BY DEFAULT! This info does NOT appear in any of the TV or Magic Remote user manuals or tutorials, but a brief caption is displayed whenever you "uncheck" this function. Today I contacted LG via their chat service to inform them of this missing information. It depends on the app, most use the right centre buttons (around scroll button). When streaming it depends how that particular app is setup more than the remote but some do allow you to remap the buttons.

They’re dynamic buttons which means aside from the obvious volume up/down each app developer can choose what the other buttons do. Ordinarily it would just be the directional buttons.
Hi Sir. i am stucked in reset mode wherein the monitor displays "Here we go- start". From there my magic remote "wheel-ok" button is not responding and also the button under the TV. Right now the TV is still stuck and cannot continue to reset because it froze at that state. What can i do Sir? Thanks!
You show using the back button on the LG remote to get to the Apple TV screensaver mode. This not working for me. It just take me back as intended. All the other buttons with the Apple as you showed. Did you have to make a specific change for that to work?

@@MATechTH-cam because electrical outlets, televisions, remotes, and other things may differ from country to country. I'm in the States. Clearly TH-cam picks up I.P. addresses and sees it's a U.S. ip so they should give us U.S. videos - not European videos. Same for you and your country.

I have both satellites channels and antenna ones. Unfortunately the two channel lists cannot be merged. So, in order to quickly switch between them, I have a shortcut for one satellite channel and a shotcut for one antenna channel
Hmmm MY LG CX do not have this " show all divices "i have only the option in first line, and missing all on secound like " PC, game console " etc :( ....
I can’t comment on the cx as I don’t have one so can’t say if they changed the setup process. In theory it should automatically detect what’s connected to it anyway but if not see if you can find anything online for how the cx options work. LG did cut back on some things from between the c9 and cx so they may simply have removed the option.

Firstly I’m not tech support so whilst I do my best to answer people don’t think I’m here to fix everything for everyone. You need to troubleshoot issue via web searches too. That said below is are my answers to what I think you’re asking. 1- not sure what setup you’re using so can’t answer this 2- the app you’re using should have on screen buttons or will have shortcuts on the remote, search the app help to see what shortcuts it has activated 3- you need to pair voice assistants via your settings to get them to work, I’ve never used but I’m voice assistants as they’re never any good.
Is the remote for the correct tv? And do they not click or only work sometimes? If it’s a hardware issue then you’ll need to contact LG for possible replacement but if not try and reset the remote, presumably you’ve already tried taking the batteries out?
Can someone help? I'll try to explain best I can. Im new to OLED, I'd like to know if you aim the pointer for e.g, too far up or too far down into the screen - is it supposed to mess up / misallign the direction of the arrow? So even when I next point it to the middle of the screen while holding remote dead straight, the arrow kinda ends up anywhere but the middle unless I turn the pointer arrow off & on so it resets to normal. I hate it
Yes that does happen from time to time, you can trigger the pointer using the input button at the bottom of the remote so if you do that with it pointing in the middle then it’ll stay within the confines of the screen and be easier to control.
2 questions. First, is there any way to map the voice button so it searches through the Chromecast I have attached? And are there any buttons (possibly the colored ones?) that are fully customizable? Thanks...

No point as my picture settings on your tv won’t look the same. As a basis I use the isf or the cinema home (for hdr) modes and then adapt as needed. Ideally a calibration would be best but that’s not always an option. The processing on the cx in particular will make it differ, first port of call would be to disable everything you can and take it from there.
It’ll always default to the last input you had it on but if you follow the instructions in the video you can set TH-cam to a shortcut and use that once the tv is on.
i have my yamaha amp connected via the optical jack and it doesn't see it to allow me to proceed to use the magic remote to controls its volume...no port connected...no hdmi on my old yamaha
Not all geographic locations have the same buttons, for example on some the movies button launches an internal app and on some it links to a external partner service.
@@MATechTH-cam I'm asking you because you added Prime and Netflix to your quick access even though you have dedicated Prime and Netflix buttons that take you straight there.
I did it as an example, I personally use Apple TV 4K rather than built in apps so for me it’s neither here nor there. I have videos on my channel comparing the built in apps to the Apple TV so you can check them out to see reasons why on that.
a little off topic but you answered my remote/sound question...it appears my lg oled cx will not output 5 channel sound to my amplifier via the optical jack like my xbox or cable box can. if i want to stay with my tv's "smartness"...would a hdmi to optical extractor solve my problem or am i missing something in the settings-thanks!
As far as I’m aware the TVs optical port will only output stereo, best bet is to use hdmi as then you should get atleast 5.1 and with the cx having earc it’s capable of 7.1
@@MATechTH-cam couple things..i am a stooge, that just cut the cord, who wasn't getting surround because youtube and youtube tv do not support it however netflix and prime do and i have surround via the optical with them when hooked up directly. Also i solved the remote issue by purchasing a hdmi to optical converter and use the hdmi out on the tv so that the magic remote can now see my old home theater in set up mode and control its volume. in order to get the actual sound i had to loop another optical back to the tv from the amp...weird but it all works...remotely!
The only issue with this setup (as I had a very similar setup on my old technics hifi before upgrading to the soundbar) is that you won’t get atmos through this setup and it’s a massive part of new content and is incorporated more than you might think in movies and tv series. It’s subtle but definitely adds another level to the experience. Other than that make use of what you have till you need/want to change setup 👍🏽
Remove the device from the set-box setup. The PS4 pro used to do this occasionally when I first set it up and after failing to get it working again through that setup. I simply removed it and it worked fine without a designation of what type of device it is.

Unfortunately not, but you can assign any of the number keys to a shortcut so you can set them instead, the pre-set shortcuts are usually assigned with third party contracts therefore manufacturers are obliged to ensure end users can’t make changes to them.
I’ve used the remote on occasion, not the best and not greatly intuitive but can do the job as long as you’re not wanting to do anything too complicated as iirc it doesn’t have haptic feedback which would improve things.
This video is very informative. I do have a question. I noticed that you have your Apple TV connected via HDMI to your sound bar and you were able to program and control the PS4 Pro via the remote. I have my PS5 and Xbox One X connected to my Denon AVR via earc. How can I achieve the setup without reconnecting them to my LG OLED?
You should be able to use the setting option to select them as gaming inputs and then it’ll give you basic control over them. It won’t be able to control the PS5 unless you’re logged into a profile, if it boots on user login you’ll still need to use your controller to initially log in as that’s what it does on the ps4 pro.
On the lg first as that’s how I did it, on the Apple TV it also allows you to pair other remotes so in theory you could do that with the receiver and connected devices too but on the tv would be first call.
If you mean live tv then I’m not sure as I don’t use live terrestrial tv however most iptv apps do have this functionality so I’m pretty sure there will also be a button (or possibly one that you can program) to do this.
@@MATechTH-cam Aha! OK dlna is something different. I mean SMB so normal network drives where you might need to set user credentials to use them. This isn't possible for you too? DLNA I didn't use I will give it a try.

Press the 3 dots near the ‘0’ key and if the app/input supports it it’ll give you an option for capture there. I’ve never personally used it so not sure wether it has any onboard storage or whether it requires external storage to be connected.

You need to enable hdmi cec on the tv and your Samsung soundbar should have a similar option in its app/menu.
Both need to be enabled for it to work.

Should be same process as PS4, use the streaming box setup and add it as console or relevant device that works for you.

They do different things in each app, they’ll be shown on screen in the app as to what their functions are
hit green 5 times fast for freesync info
That’s for the CX, don’t believe it works on C9

You should be able to do this with any device that supports hdmi-cec

Set a shortcut to your device and turn the tv on using the number rather than the power button.

They’ll be adaptive by app so will either use the left and right arrow keys or some use the colour buttons at the bottom (but that’s rare).

No, it just works when you’re on the Home Screen, didn’t need to change anything

Reset it and then use the setup again to add the box again
All I want to know is how to pause fast forward n rewind on kayo etc
Direction keys are usually the functions for these but it will differ from app to app.

Yes, there are options in the accessibility menu that allow picture zoom so check them to restore the picture size to normal

I have both satellites channels and antenna ones. Unfortunately the two channel lists cannot be merged. So, in order to quickly switch between them, I have a shortcut for one satellite channel and a shotcut for one antenna channel

I can’t comment on the cx as I don’t have one so can’t say if they changed the setup process.
In theory it should automatically detect what’s connected to it anyway but if not see if you can find anything online for how the cx options work.
LG did cut back on some things from between the c9 and cx so they may simply have removed the option.

Firstly I’m not tech support so whilst I do my best to answer people don’t think I’m here to fix everything for everyone. You need to troubleshoot issue via web searches too.
That said below is are my answers to what I think you’re asking.
1- not sure what setup you’re using so can’t answer this
2- the app you’re using should have on screen buttons or will have shortcuts on the remote, search the app help to see what shortcuts it has activated
3- you need to pair voice assistants via your settings to get them to work, I’ve never used but I’m voice assistants as they’re never any good.
Do you need Wi-Fi to connect this remote to tv ? My LG tv is not getting connected to wifi so my remote stopped working too.

If it’s a hardware issue then you’ll need to contact LG for possible replacement but if not try and reset the remote, presumably you’ve already tried taking the batteries out?
Can someone help? I'll try to explain best I can. Im new to OLED, I'd like to know if you aim the pointer for e.g, too far up or too far down into the screen - is it supposed to mess up / misallign the direction of the arrow? So even when I next point it to the middle of the screen while holding remote dead straight, the arrow kinda ends up anywhere but the middle unless I turn the pointer arrow off & on so it resets to normal. I hate it
Yes that does happen from time to time, you can trigger the pointer using the input button at the bottom of the remote so if you do that with it pointing in the middle then it’ll stay within the confines of the screen and be easier to control.

Voice button is locked and only customisable buttons are 1-9 as per the video.

When I press the bottom with 3 dots, my menu only has a few options, not as many as you have.
That changes depending on app/hdmi source, it’s not available on everything as I mentioned in the video.
Any chance you can advise a video or link for all picture settings? I just got the LG CX 65 and I’m having a hard time trying to figure out the best settings for TV, Movies and PS4... and yes I do wish I had a ps5 for this tv!!!;()
No point as my picture settings on your tv won’t look the same.
As a basis I use the isf or the cinema home (for hdr) modes and then adapt as needed.
Ideally a calibration would be best but that’s not always an option.
The processing on the cx in particular will make it differ, first port of call would be to disable everything you can and take it from there.
How can I get TH-cam tv to be default when powering on the tv in stead of cable?
It’ll always default to the last input you had it on but if you follow the instructions in the video you can set TH-cam to a shortcut and use that once the tv is on.

Varies from app to app, exit will be back button but previous channel will depend on the app being used.
If I get my content from virgin media via the V6 set top box and play it through an LG smart TV then won’t the LG remote control be useless?
It can be setup to control devices connected to the tv so means you only need 1 remote.

No, you have to use directional keys for that (assuming you will as that’s how it is on other apps).
i have my yamaha amp connected via the optical jack and it doesn't see it to allow me to proceed to use the magic remote to controls its volume...no port connected...no hdmi on my old yamaha
Optical doesn’t allow control, it has to be connected via hdmi through an arc/earc port to control external devices.

What's the point of adding Prime and Netflix to your quick access when there's dedicated Netflix and Prime buttons on the remote?
Not all geographic locations have the same buttons, for example on some the movies button launches an internal app and on some it links to a external partner service.

I did it as an example, I personally use Apple TV 4K rather than built in apps so for me it’s neither here nor there.

a little off topic but you answered my remote/sound question...it appears my lg oled cx will not output 5 channel sound to my amplifier via the optical jack like my xbox or cable box can. if i want to stay with my tv's "smartness"...would a hdmi to optical extractor solve my problem or am i missing something in the settings-thanks!
As far as I’m aware the TVs optical port will only output stereo, best bet is to use hdmi as then you should get atleast 5.1 and with the cx having earc it’s capable of 7.1
@@MATechTH-cam couple things..i am a stooge, that just cut the cord, who wasn't getting surround because youtube and youtube tv do not support it however netflix and prime do and i have surround via the optical with them when hooked up directly. Also i solved the remote issue by purchasing a hdmi to optical converter and use the hdmi out on the tv so that the magic remote can now see my old home theater in set up mode and control its volume. in order to get the actual sound i had to loop another optical back to the tv from the amp...weird but it all works...remotely!
The only issue with this setup (as I had a very similar setup on my old technics hifi before upgrading to the soundbar) is that you won’t get atmos through this setup and it’s a massive part of new content and is incorporated more than you might think in movies and tv series.
It’s subtle but definitely adds another level to the experience. Other than that make use of what you have till you need/want to change setup 👍🏽

I don’t use sky but I’m pretty sure there will be a button for it , or you have the option of remapping the custom keys to perform an action too.

Remove the device from the set-box setup.
The PS4 pro used to do this occasionally when I first set it up and after failing to get it working again through that setup. I simply removed it and it worked fine without a designation of what type of device it is.

Unfortunately not, but you can assign any of the number keys to a shortcut so you can set them instead,
the pre-set shortcuts are usually assigned with third party contracts therefore manufacturers are obliged to ensure end users can’t make changes to them.

Are you familiar with using the LG thinQ app for this remote on your phone by chance?
I’ve used the remote on occasion, not the best and not greatly intuitive but can do the job as long as you’re not wanting to do anything too complicated as iirc it doesn’t have haptic feedback which would improve things.
Your menu is way different than mine (WebOS 5.0) on the BX. I have way less options for connectivity.

Depends on the app, some apps will use them and others won’t, you can’t remap them globally across all apps though.
This video is very informative. I do have a question. I noticed that you have your Apple TV connected via HDMI to your sound bar and you were able to program and control the PS4 Pro via the remote. I have my PS5 and Xbox One X connected to my Denon AVR via earc. How can I achieve the setup without reconnecting them to my LG OLED?
You should be able to use the setting option to select them as gaming inputs and then it’ll give you basic control over them.
It won’t be able to control the PS5 unless you’re logged into a profile, if it boots on user login you’ll still need to use your controller to initially log in as that’s what it does on the ps4 pro.

On the lg first as that’s how I did it, on the Apple TV it also allows you to pair other remotes so in theory you could do that with the receiver and connected devices too but on the tv would be first call.

If you mean live tv then I’m not sure as I don’t use live terrestrial tv however most iptv apps do have this functionality so I’m pretty sure there will also be a button (or possibly one that you can program) to do this.

You can adjust the speed and size of the pointer.

You need to enable dlna on the shares and allow access.
@@MATechTH-cam Aha! OK dlna is something different. I mean SMB so normal network drives where you might need to set user credentials to use them. This isn't possible for you too? DLNA I didn't use I will give it a try.
Should we be putting the tv in standby or letting the wallpaper go when we are in between use? Versus shutting off the tv altogether?
Depends how long, if being left for a long time it makes sense to turn it off but for short periods it’ll be fine with wallpapers

Press the 3 dots near the ‘0’ key and if the app/input supports it it’ll give you an option for capture there.
I’ve never personally used it so not sure wether it has any onboard storage or whether it requires external storage to be connected.
