Today, we're looking for hidden gems and finding nothing but rocks as I try out the worst strategy games on steam. Don't go looking for the best strategy games or upcoming strategy games 2023 here - there is nothing but misery to be found.

That Pope game sounds like a really good concept. A shame it was executed terribly.
Yeah, a character-based grand strategy game about being a member of the Catholic clergy sounds like a cool concept. I would play the heck out of Crusader Bishops.
I think the pope game actually had a sort of interesting concept, but terrible execution.

Firefly studios is an actual studio haha. They made Stronghold Crusader, etc. Which are pretty solid strategy games

Coming back to this video because I actually passed out during the papal state game.
Hope for Humanity is a bit like the first stage of Spore but unfinished.
The seven nations one looks like a term-project by a uni student. It shows some ideas, but lacks execution. I'll probably check it up in 4 years, if the creator for some reason will remember about his project there.

Empire Takeover is really similar to the flash game Tentacle Wars. I really liked that game.
I tried so hard to find another game that was similar. I found tentacle wars when I was looking for it but the other one had an ant colony theme. It really is a fun game concept with some actual balancing lol.
Funnily enough, Tentacle Wars isn't the first game of that genre either.
It released in December 2010.
Castle Conqueror, was first released in September 2010. It had 6 sequels from 2011 to 2014.
The only issue is that they're all gone, since Nintendo closed the DSi and 3DS e-shop.
Seems like the first game of it's genre was Civilizations Wars and its 6 sequels. First released in January 2010.
And for @lilschlagen, the game you're thinking of is Bug War.

The last one has a logo in bottom left which implied that it's a junior/high school project. That's quite an ambitious school project, although it definitely isn't anywhere near ready to be put in steam yet.

Technically there is already a Fantasy Kingdom sim and that is Majesty and Majesty 2 so it probably was a scam based on its title. Since they may not be allowed to use that title.
This was a sympathy like for the pure pain Laith put himself through.
That WW2 sim looks less like HOI4, and more like the Mobile game Glory of Generals

Try thea the awakening by muha games or their sequel thea 2. Pretty cheap games and you can probaly get a decent video or two out of them. It's not baldurs gate 3 time commitment.
