    “Clearing the table” was such a nice analogy in my opinion to picture the exact way the shot is developed. Simple and yet effective to assimilate the idea. 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻. Nice video and tip. Congrats.

    Love all your daily lessons and these extended lessons are really great that right now we still have more time on our hands than usual. Hopefully the courts will open soon in NY and will be able to put all these tips into play. Thanks again.

    Nice Brady.
    Perhaps this effect Stay at Home (Covid-19), you make extended tutorials to play tennis. From theory to how to practice it. It really helped me to play tennis well.
    Thanks Brady.

    Excellent video! Is this part of the progression for taking deep, heavy topspin balls on the rise, not just floaters?

    • @DailyTennisLesson

      Yes it's the same technique, just different timing!

    Brady, another great video. This topic is one of my favs. Your scenario for the on-the-rise shot is very specific to a situation where you got a weak response from an opponent that is short and loopy. Maybe you can cover the case where the ball is hit heavy and moderately deep and instead of retreating, you step up and take it. The most problems I have with these balls are that the pace is so heavy, I have to absorb the energy and then swing through. The result is a loopy but deep response from me. Not totally weak but not totally strong. Do you have a better solution? Thanks for the video.

      Not much different. Your contact point may be slightly lower or it could still be at the same height. The key on these is keeping your racket speed high and a full swing intact in order to counter the heavy ball from your opponent. My guess is that you're not fully swinging out on this type of ball which is resulting in somewhat weak reply. Sounds like you're not far off though.

      If I swing through, I find that the ball goes out on these heavy balls.

      @@twinwankel Slowing down your racket head speed is not the answer for keeping the ball in play. Adding more topspin might be the answer and/or picking a slightly lower target over the net, which you can afford to do with a higher contact point.

      @@DailyTennisLesson Great video, Brady and Mark. And my question was the same as Wally's, so I appreciate the response. I hit a good heavy ball with lots of spin from a waist-high ball, but on the deep, heavy higher balls, the confidence and swing path isn't there, and I don't swing fully through the ball, you are exactly right. These drills will help a lot, thanks guys for putting these videos out.

    Brady, would you agree that, much like a first service return, you should remember to keep your take-back and back-more compact, because the ball has not yet begun the deceleration phase at point of contact? Great lesson!

    • @DailyTennisLesson
      @DailyTennisLesson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No this is a misconception for taking the ball on-the-rise. If you notice in the lesson I never shorten my backswing. With practice you can gain enough confidence to take a full swing when hitting on the rise.

      @@DailyTennisLesson Thanks, Brady. This may explain why I have been mistiming some of these shots. I'll try to stay mindful of your advice.

    The hitting timing isn't so difficult, just load your legs when the ball hits the ground and rise with the ball with the swing. Just like flowing with the ball fall and rise together. Flowing with the ball rise and fall and rise again was how I first learned how to time to hit a tennis ball.

    13:37 yeah that looks like my usual on the rise forehand

  • @progressivedemagogue8480
    @progressivedemagogue8480 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it right to think we’re not ripping the ball on the rise but using a slower racket speed to reflect the pace that is already there? I can rip defensive balls with margin but struggle to time fast racket head speed on the rise

    • @DailyTennisLesson
      @DailyTennisLesson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not advise slowing your racket speed down here. At a minimum you should maintain racket speed. Ultimately you want to be playing the ball and not having the ball play you. Give it a try with good racket acceleration and I think you'll like the results!

    Please change to continental for stroke?

    • @DailyTennisLesson
      @DailyTennisLesson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely don't want to be in continental for any aggressive swing, especially on forehand side. Stick with your usual forehand grip and rip.

    Fantastic.. As usual.. but whenever I do so.. i end up hitting to net :-(

    • @DailyTennisLesson
      @DailyTennisLesson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you're "clearing the table" and not hitting down on the ball. If you have adequate racket speed and a solid racket path you should be clearing the net.
