Jim, good evening from a windy UK. The set was Chooching very well and then no Chooch !. I think whilst you were trimming the capacitor and despite the screwdriver being well insulated you somehow grounded the capacitor. I will have to peruse the schematic to ascertain what the consequence would be. Have you check the plate current on the final after your transformer modification ?. I admire your determination, this is a minor setback you are nearly there. 73"s
I recall seeing “Tin Whiskers” ( whiskers ) on the ganged three potentiometer RGB metal enclosure , outside surface , of 1970’s RCA color TV sets employing printed circuit boards. The whisker were problematic in making fine adjustment and cleaning did no help. The Xtals would migrate to printed circuit foils causing short circuit effects.
This channel is getting obsessed with cats. It is always good to give anything with tin a wipe those pesky whiskers get everywhere. RCA thought they did a good thing plating chassis as did Hammond organs many of which have been scraped because the main switch chassis would grow huge whiskers.
