      Not gonna lie I was scared of this, you hear about spending 200-300 on a pc to play games at "low/medium" and it sounds like you'll be playing a fortnite mobile-esque graphically deficient game but in reality games on pc with 1080p medium or low qualitys tend to be pretty similar to standard console graphics

    I used to wipe the floor with people in BF3 on PS3. Been playing on PC for around 4 months now, mostly third person games. Gave BF3 a shot and holy crap am I awful. Got a LOOONNNGG ways to go before I'm even decent. Sad that there aren't a lot of servers up and running for it anymore.

      You're probably not shit, it's just that the people still playing bf3 on pc probably do so regularly and are therefore shit hot. BF3 is very twitchy so you might find it helps to play with high FOV and higher mouse sensitivity. Don't play over wifi and definitely wear headphones. The AEK is king.

    coming from a console gamer i built my first pc myself about 4 5 months ago , i did a ton of research and lots of youtube videos on how to build , eventually i started buying components bit by bit and in the end spend about £6-700 and with that i had a quite beefy computer , m.2 ssd boot drive, 240aio cooler , ryzen 5 1600 , 2tb hdd, gtx 1060 3gb 16gb ddr4 ram , ab350 mobo, it handles the games i play so much better than console , the smoothness and just better visuals far outmatch console and thats with a mediocre graphics card, you dont need thousands to get into it , just do your research and price snipe components, especially gpu’s , it was very fun building it and it did look. quite nice in the nzxt case , its really fun building and you get the satisfaction of knowing you built it definitely worth building

  • @MrJohnnyb74
    @MrJohnnyb74 6 ปีที่แล้ว +259

    As a long time, ex-console gamer, there is a learning curve but once you switch to PC you'll feel better about getting more for your money and accessing more games. You'll be frustrated at times but you'll also learn a LOT about how computers work. Plus, it's really nice to have a good, fast PC to just browse the web and enjoy TH-cam. It's one of those things you have to see and experience for yourself but 100% worth it. Pro tip: If you are planning a build, wait for Black Friday and you'll save a TON of money.

      Tips on transitioning from a controller to a keyboard and mouse besides just working on getting good sensitivity down?

    • @MrJohnnyb74
      @MrJohnnyb74 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I bought a Razer keypad since the keys were linear but recently just went to a keyboard. I don't recommend keypads and now see that as waste of time. I recommend using default key maps for the most part as changing them up for each game just becomes tedious. For mouse sensitivity, lower DPI (I play PUBG in 800 DPI) is better and adjust in-game sensitivity as needed. Same goes for Battlefield or games like Overwatch. The mouse I have (Corsair M65 Pro) has a sniper button on the side which is good for headshots when sniping. Probably the most important thing that helped me a lot was getting a good chair and practicing good posture. Lining up your peripherals just right and making sure you keep your elbows on your desk. You can also get some ergonomic elbow rests for better range of motion if needed.

    I started PC gaming when BF3 came out in 2011. The difference is night and day, but honestly the only reason I switched was because of the stupid online fees console have. I used to think PCs had worse graphics before I got into it for some odd reason.

    I really reccomend building your own PC, it only takes a few hours of contemplating whether to make an Intel or AMD style build only to then come to the realization that you still know jack shit about the components while erratically researching core processors, graphics cards, cooling systems, sound chips and power supplies with weird alien names from Area 51, like some tech support student.
    Aside from that it only takes another few hours of self deprivation, hopelessly clasping on to your sanity, a child sacrifice, a vintage fashion magazine from the 1980s and other various forms of masochism all while hopelessly contemplating whether or not it would have just been better to get a pre-built PC, and after you are done, you will only contemplate your life choices for the next hour as you wait for you PC to do about 5 million updates and just hope that those components that just violated your bank account actually work together. No stress at all really, i'm definitely not a sadistic bastard. It is cheaper though.

    • @dustpan5236
      @dustpan5236 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know I’m very late and I partly agree with this. I think you should take advantage of someone else who was already built their pc and are selling it on the Facebook marketplace or apps such as OfferUp,letgo, or craigslist. This way you won’t have to worry about putting your pic together and there’s usually 200 bucks less than what you would’ve payed if you would’ve built it yourself

At the end i figured i was close to the bullseye on the m.b., cpu, ram choices in the $400 cpu class. Do it as a challenge to yourself - learning the good comparison websites, and such like this, before you spend.

    Don't forget your power supply! Buying one that's too weak may result in a slower computer and it shutting down randomly. I have a 350w power supply for a 500 euro pc, which barely works (it shuts down sometimes) if you're looking to buy a 600-800 euro pc I recommend getting something of 500 watts

    • @dustydinoface
      @dustydinoface 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Erik Smit if you put your parts into pc part picker you can see how many watts your build uses and you should get a power supply that has about double what your build needs

    • @amberco21
      @amberco21 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't get double your needs. I'd get about 1/4 to 2/5ths more than you need. PSUs have a sweet spot and if you buy higher watt PSUs then you're just spending more money with no added efficiency or stability.

    I really suggest building your own PC. The process of building only takes an hour or two and 3 hours of research should be enough to find the right parts. The only thing system builders provide that will be beneficial is tech support and pro cable management. Everything else you can do yourself just fine.

      system builders also provide warranty including compatibiilty. For some people that's worth paying more than the sum of the parts, cause they don't want to deal with crashes/weird glitches cause sometimes components simply do not play together even if they are meant to

      That's actually debatable right now. Yes usually building is the way to go, but with price hikes in different components now, using a builder like NZXT might be cheaper as they base their prices of the component's MSRP, not the current average sale price. Right now you might be still good building due to the recent drop in GPU prices but that won't be the case for long (also the reason why you should go ahead an upgrade your GPU now if you're looking to upgrade, not wait). Reason is the price drop is because everyone's waiting on the new NVidia GPUs, gamers and miners alike. Therefore current GPU demand has dropped and with it, prices too. But when the new GPUs launch, they will be sold out within minutes, and if you waited and weren't able to buy one of the new GPUs when they drop, you'll go to get an 10-series GPU, only that's what everyone weren't able to get an 11-series GPU (miners and gamers) will do, and thus the prices for both 11-series and 10-series cards will skyrocket. So once the new GPUs drop, you best bet is going with a builder like NZXT.

      gaming laptops mostly suffers from poor cooling and overheats more easily, sure they have been getting better but they are also more expensive majority of the cases. Of course if you're moving alot then laptops is a good choice. Plus it's harder or mostly impossible to fix a laptop yourself if something brake cause how they are built and if you try then you will ruin the warranty of it and it will be very expensive to fix if you turn it in. I would say go for a custom build or even a pre built but do research on parts and bulds that you want before buying, i would only recommend laptops if you're someone who always are on the move and needs something for that.

Just keep in mind productivity may suffer a bit for non-gaming purposes due to the fact the CPU part of the APU is only 2 core, 4 thread on all the ones I've seen. The AMD Athlon G200 is one such APU, it's $50 right now.

    Great Video and I would advise anyone wanting to get into PC Gaming to build their own. The cost savings and level of hardware you can choose in a self built system will more than justify anytime you end up spending learning how to and then building your system. Once you realize that $2000 Alien can be built for Sub $1200 or so and using much better parts your going to be hooked. The only downside is it's highly addicting...
    On Black Friday I found a great deal straight from Corsair.
    I was able to get a Refurbished K68 MX Red RGB Keyboard for $67. I can not recommend this Keyboard enough. I've previously for the last 7 years been using the Logitech that's built like a tank using MX Browns, so I do of course have a tendency to bottom out the Reds as I'm not used to them yet but the feels great albeit a little loud as I'm still learning the switches. This Keyboard has gorgeous per key RGB lighting and the skies the limit on colors schemes/layouts. It's not overly large and comes with a nice wrist rest. The main Feature of this Keyboard is that under the Key Caps there's a soft rubber barrier that protects the Circuit Board and the Switches themselves. It's rated at IPS 32 for Dust and Water resistance. I always have my Sweet Tea on my desk and being a clutz I've often spilled it. As luck would have it I dumped my 32oz Sweet Tea onto my desk and all over my new Keyboard. I immediately shut down my system and started to clean it off. I simply turned the keyboard on edge, being careful not to fully invert it, and removed the wrist rest. Then lightly banged the keyboard along it's bottom edge on my desk to get rid of the pooled tea it was still holding. I then wiped it down, removed a few of the Key Caps that still had tea around them between the barrier and the cap and mopped it up using a micro cloth. I'm very happy to say the Keyboard lived through this, was easy to clean and still works flawlessly as if the spill never occured.
    Sorry for the TLDR,
    I highly recommend this Keyboard as I can honestly say the IPS Rating is actually better than it's rated at, the overall build quality, fit and finish, features are outstanding and now after using it for a week or so and having it survive what would have killed most keyboards. I can honestly say that if this one ever does die, which at this point I highly doubt, I would buy another in a heart beat even at the full price MSRP of $129.99. If you've never used Cherry MX Switches once you do you will never go back to a Membrane Keyboard. I'd always used the cheapest $10 to $15 keyboards I could find prior to the Logitech, which I killed with a similar sweet tea spill, and after doing so had to have MX Switches again. Hope this helps someone on the fence about upping their Peripheral game. It really does make a difference in comfort and function...

I work for a circuit board company that sources to all sorts of industries including Military and Medical fields; We fail in our treatment of the tech, and we could cost someone their life. Same goes for the tech itself. Do your best to ground yourself while building a PC to avoid any potential "DOA" parts, which could really be caused by your own approach to building a PC. Humans only feel shocks from 2,000 volts or higher. Parts used in PCs can be damaged by less that 20 volts. With that information, you now know you could easily kill your own product without realizing it.

    I think the best way to make your first PC is with the help of an experienced builder that will walk you through all the steps. Everybody knows someone that builds PC's. I did the jump after a few pre-made pc's in 2007, started to learn everything by myself with no help, and the result was one of the most satisfying experience ever when my first build booted first time with no issues :) Following a few PC tech related yt channels is also a good way to keep yourself informed of what's going on.

      Meh, I think thats an ancient myth. PC components are fare more durable then they were in the 80's. Just touch some sort of metal object before you start and dont work on carpet.

    • @spenhouet
      @spenhouet 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kleizar, no that is still a valid fact. A static discharge of your body can be huge. And you will still easily damage computer parts with it. While periodically touching a metal object (that has to be grounded! not just made of metal) in general helps it is much more save to just stand on a anti static mat or attach yourself to the heater with a anti static band.

    I've been gaming on PC since about 2011 and primarily a PC gamer since 2015 when I built my gaming one with a GTX 960 2gb, i5 4460 and 8gb Ram, after a year I realized it was underpowered even for 1080p and got a 1070 and 16gb ram, eventually an i7 7700k and moved to 1440p recently. 1440p is really the highest resolution you'd want to go for unless you want crazy graphics, 120hz is the highest refreshrate anyone will ever need but a lot of monitors are 144hz, mine can overclock to 165hz but above 120hz is pointless and won't help you at all and will need a massive amount of power to run, 1ms response time is gonna be what you'd want. Deathadder mice are great, I had a Chroma and now an Elite and it's very good, I have a Deathstalker and it's good but i'm thinking of going for a Huntsman as it's a mechanical keyboard with opto-mechanical keys. Good headsets are hard to find, I've gone from a Turtle Beach to an Afterglow wireless to a Razer Kraken and now a Razer Kraken V2, the V2 is definitely the best headset i've had and for sound is very good although i'm sure there is better, the V2 has the best headset mic you can get but i'm using a cheap condenser mic that is still better quality. Mousepads don't matter much, just go with one that's the right size really. Always go for a PC with a CPU good enough for the GPU, don't use an i5 7th gen or older with a 1070 or higher or you'll get bottlenecks on some games like Battlefield 1, i5 8th gen or i7s are great for that, 8gb Ram can work but 16gb is recommended and soon you'll probably want 32gb

      8gb of RAM are still performing extremely well,even today. Most games don't even use as much. Only a few titles like the next Tomb Raider uses more than 8gb of RAM when running. But yes 16gb for a new build is definitly recommanded, it's future proof. We won't see 32gb mandatory for gaming anytime soon (but it's usefull if yu are an artist, video editor etc).
      Oh and Razer's Audio gear is shit, way too bassy and very fragile (got 2 of them, one at 70$ and one at 200$ both of them broke).
      If you can, buy a real audiophile headset (an open one if you game alone, closed if you have people around). The sound quality, and confort will be way better + you will be able to use your headset with your phone or other audio devices.
      If you need to chat just buy a mike like the Bird UM1, sounds great for the price

      How does the console ecosystem feel better when your paying for online play and paying more for games. And it’s not like a PC won’t work with your TV, and yet there still isn’t a console that can play every game at native 4K so your TV is pointless. Also if you don’t know already TV’s are pretty bad for gaming, so trying to show off your “65 inch LG 4K” with slow response times, 60 Hz refresh rate and low PPI, is cringy.

    On the monitor side, have to point out that there "might" be a reason to buy a 60hrz gaming monitor if shooters aren't your main deal. If you're starting off and have no idea what you need you can look at you preferred games and budget. I'd pretty much tell you to aim for (something other than shooters) screen type>resolution>price> size>refresh. (Shooters) refresh>price>screen type>resolution. Size being less important in the latter as it really can be a problem in games you need to see everything in an instant but then again this is level cap's channel soo.. pretty likely your interested in shooters.

    • @kugecki_
      @kugecki_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Igor Sandu that's because most 144hz monitors are aimed for esports or into the "competitive" scene for fps and such. TN panels offer the fastes response rate and yes, lacking the quality colour and contrast offered in IPS panels.
