Great chat, lads! The firehose of new models is nice, new models are always fun to see... but a collateral result of this flood is that almost nothing is "newsworthy" anymore. Also, it's always OK to throw Quebec under the bus, we're all thinking it!
When Rob Symes was in at the start of Warhammer TV the GW management had no idea of how to use the media they were creating. Taking snippets Rob has talked about after leaving, the managers behind the Warhammer TV were just too busy infighting and trying to climb the greasy pole they forgot about the product and Rob left to go his own way. He wasn't even supposed to be in front of the camera, he was brought in for his skills in setting up the channel. I know from people who have worked at GW for 20+ years that they have a distrust of outside experts and just use internal staff movements to place someone to run departments often regardless of experience in that field. Peachy has also lifted the lid on this a little.
The reason the previews are soooo bad these days is that they largely DON'T contain as much. It used to be just a constant stream of reveals and take 45 min to get through it all. Now they have to sit and talk about each thing extensively to fill that same time. Essentially they are now just an interview of what would have been a warcom article in the past. Now the reason this happened is because they dramatically increased the number of previews they do. There are a ton of them like you said. Why would they do that? Twitch. They monetized previews. People do subscriptions and use their amazon prime subscriptions during the preview so they can comment. They literally get money thrown at them now to do what they used to do for free. And as a result, they've figured out how to maximize that really easy revenue stream.
They've taken a leaf out of the AAA videogames industry. Everything sounds like brainwashed double glazing salesmen reading off a script written by AI.
Games Workshop's websites are like the Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect for business. So many people (who frankly have never been around executives to know) talk about GW corporate like "these guys are experts at business, they're financial geniuses, they know exactly what they're doing..." and then we see them try to update their websites, and for that brief minute where we get a peek through the curtains it's an incompetent sh--show. And then next week they'll all be like, "These guys are highly paid professionals, they're way ahead of the game here, normal people just can't keep up with them."
Yes! I was so excited about the Night Lords Nemesis Claw models for my CSM when they came out in the big KT box. Waited for them to be sold separately... now what, 16 months later? They're now available separately and cost way more than KT teams cost 16 months ago... smh, much less excited about them now.
@@MiBasse No worries. I swear it was summer/fall of 2023 when they announced it. But I can't find proof. April was a while ago, but more recent in my head. Still. The Tease vs the Follow Through is frustrating.
Agreed. The quarterly big announcement should be short & sweet with new release reveal after new release reveal. When it comes to the release week then do a video about the design, painting & lore etc of the models. I do love Garbage time with Jay and Rob.
So it kinda sounds like the Infinity preview cycle from Corvus Belli is hitting the notes: 2 minuteish videos and then getting info/interviews out to their content creators. And… I look for a new CB video with excitement and I don’t bother with GW previews : I’ll scroll warcom a few days later and save myself that hour
Speaking of Rob, from listening to the Juggz podcast I gather every presenter of note to have left GW has done so because largely down to the behaviour of a single manager. Someone who genuinely seems to resent lowly 'staff' becoming popular and being regarded by the customer base as faces of the company. That's the impression I've got anyway, which could explain why everyone's so bland now.
Great video guys and spot on. I did however enjoy the hype and build up to latest KT season. Lots of useful updates that have away far more than they usually do
I know that it's contrary to focusing on the company rather than the personalities, but Good Lord do the Warhammer team come across as a corporate crew from LinkedIn. It's so sterile and boring. All the top YT 40k channels have individual personality. GW's team is exactly the opposite.
I used to look forward to the previews and drinking from the hype fountain. the change of the format and their awful presentation of the models really just makes it feel like a waste of time. just catching them in post these days, if at all.
The blandness is just Corporate Culture in action. It isn't just GW. Corporate goons are the most risk adverse class of people around. Creativity means trying something new and that is always risky. The Corporate Goons much prefer to use what has proven to work in the past to avoid risk and maximize profits while minimizing inputs. The result is constant rehashing of past success. Movies, music and computer games are all the same, more sequels and remasters. Combine Corporate Goonism (to coin a phrase) with politics being all about moralism, and that morality being all about social control, and you get a culture which makes it very difficult for anyone to be expressive or innovate. There can be little creativity under these circumstances. Anyway, I decided not to add anything about drawing parallels with Ancient Greece and their cultural turning to moralism, or the decline of the Abbasid Caliphate and a transition form creativity to conservatism, and current circumstances in contemporary Western Culture. Hope my comment helps confuse the algorithm and ups your channel in the search list.
Check out the Old World roadmap if you want to see some pathetic marketing it looks like it was lifted from an internal power point presentation that someone spent about 2 minutes on The new website is also complete garbage, I had been checking every day or so for Old world news but the new version doesn’t even load on my phone so I rarely bother check it now Also what the hell happened to the interactive Old World map? They just stopped updating it after orcs & goblins
I honestly stopped being hyped with Warhammer previews when they made previews of previews and roadmaps. The Old Worl part in the last one was particularly pathetic. The hype building machine is broken in GW, but they act like it's still working. What's really funny is that the real new miniatures showed on monday for Necromunda could have been Warhammer Preview material, but instead they decided to show christmas bundles. TBH, I never undestood of keeping these Warhammer preview when you have daily Warhammer articles already do previews well.
They've let Duncan cause them so much PTSD that it's going to continue reverberating through any front-facing media they do for another 5 years or more. It's wild that they've let it own them so hard. Also this reveal show came off the back of the failed road map preview show last month. Which was mostly ridiculed for how meaningless any of that info was.
Duncan, Rob, Suggs and Peachy are all doing well for themselves since going rogue. This was talent that GW should have cultivated and leveraged and instead they alienated it.
I'm still waiting to buy the new damsel that came out with Bretonnia/ the launch of the old world. Alas it has been sold out for a better part of the year now.
Yeah, that Hachette Magazine thing? Subscribe and have all those Combat Patrols 999 issues later or what have you? Seems cool, but looking at the list I realize how many of those patrols I own already, and by dribbling models/units out month by month, how long until you can actually field one on the table? Nevermind the part where they're not available in my country.
I wonder if the need for clicks per day has come at the detriment of live shows, they have revealed 4 products since the reveal on the site. Honestly not bothered watching in years, but now rarely check the same day. In part because they are so poor (a miniature company not showing the minis) and most new GW stuff isn't exciting me. It is all perfectly fine, not wow, whereas older models are on my wants list. I wonder if they have become risk adverse in their design or if the multiple iterations CAD allows is leading to design by committee.
Just wish with those live events they would turn off chat on twitch. It's painful to watch how that micro-group behaves during those events. The events are bland. I'm usually just interested in what ever minis they're promoting at the time.
I really disagree with your statement about the content of every showing of new clips. I facepalm myself when they talk about rules for the models. Every time there is a new clip of new models they spend more time talking about rules than anything and it's tge most boring thing ever. I love when they introduce the story, the concept, etc. of each units and models.
No worries the next seson switch fir AoS/w40k/HH/"not"Epic/Old World will fix that. Plus we are a year from next HH edition and a bit more for w40k. GW are just bidding their time, letting competition punch themselfs out, so they can just crush them with new releases for ortodox christmas (6th Jan and the only real christmas). Soon we are going to be drowning in new boxes.........
Hmmm... methinks the "Garbage Time" branding is a good idea. The old Katie Nolan bit hasnt been around in almost a decade, and some self deprecating flair is almost always welcome to lower expectations before you annihilate them completely with the video. Only joking about the quality, but I am serious about the branding. Have your people call my people.

It's largely due to the fact that they don't want to spend that much money, so they keep relying on internal people.

Gw videos are so corporate feeling now. Safe and bland. Ah well, i just catch up on the articles now.

The new website is terrible. It makes it much harder to actually find what you are looking for, and like you said its just too busy.

It's been 6 months, which is still much longer than they've generally done, but it's a bit of an overshoot 😅

@@MiBassethat depends when someone sees the leaks.
@@piotrjeske4599 "sold separately later" would imply from initial release. I don't think it's a reasonable stance to count from leak-date.

Second this. Monday morning Garbage Time w/ Jay and Rob should become a thing.

That dumpster fire solidly killed my hype for any of the things. By the time I found out, it was “oh that’s all?”

Name and shame em then?

I have seen many of your “ garbage time “ vids. Love it !!! Thank you for your perspectives and for telling the truth ! Cheers.
You're welcome 😊

Love “Emperors Birthday” as the new GW holiday name. 😂

Happy birthday, Emperor! Don't forget the reason for the season...casual fascism.
What’s on next week for garbage time?!? I’ll tune in
Could always call it "Garbage Day" based off the classic line read from Silent Night Deadly Night 2.
Man I would love to see the sales data for minis shown off in a preview vs some random warcom article. Kinda feel like they're not worth the effort...

I've noticed the new upcoming kill Team had MDF terrain in it !!
A first for GW.. we will see how it does!
It seems, WEB site was done by a board members kid or in law.
500k and 50k a month to upkeep.
Now I want a 'Garbage Time with Chris and Jay' t-shirt.
We need a t-shirt poll
Agree with you on the new website experience on mobile. It’s not as good as the last website.

Drop the women, LGBTQ agenda.
Do it or fail.
Those are GW choices.
The outcome of their success will solely hinge on those choices.
I think they will be fine either way
