This was a fun little tag! I liked your answers. The Extinction question got me reflecting so perhaps I'll add the tag to our list of potential videos. -Becks
I appreciate that, in the midst of talking about expanding your acceptance to all books, you still managed to get in a little jab at self-help books. 😄 (And now I want to see a documentarian or a podcaster do a deep dive into that whole industry!)
It’s been great watching your channel over the years and I think you have helped me broaden my reading and be less judgmental about others - particularly the latter as I know there was some book snobbery of my own going on 😮. You’re right about Scott, Kieran and the Disco King - sometimes I completely agree with them and sometimes the opposite - but it’s also reassuring to find someone who agrees that say Jon Fosse or James are brilliant and is able to articulate why.
Disagreeing with you on books makes me very happy too Brian 😂😂 Ironically enough I agree on pretty much everything you said in this video though! I’ve also backed right away from tags, and think that being active in the community is important, and one of the things that I love most 🥰
It is a great deal of fun for me as well. And the tags, I just feel like I’m boring the crap out of people by giving slight variations on the same prompts.
This is such a fascinating tag! I remember your Saturday Hodgepodges...I enjoyed them, but I can completely understand how it got to the point that it was no longer feasible to do them every week.
Great answers. I really enjoy watching people who are authentic in their videos (or at least feel authentic to me) and introduce me to new and different books and things in general. That also includes different styles in making videos.
Great answers! I think it’s great to see people grow over time. It’d kinda be weird (to me) if their channel was exactly the same over a few years’ time.
Some of us still miss Saturday Hodge Podge 😢 but it is really important not to let anything start to feel like a chore. This is a good tag and Jack tagged me too so I should do it as it is nice to reflect.
Fascinating answers, I also was condescending towards romance when I started, I read a contemporary romance this month, to get out of my comfort zone, and I liked it....

I also have stopped doing every tag for the same reasons - has to be something where I’ve got something fresh to say or, occasionally, when I want to support a fellow booktuber as are only so many times I can mention Terry Pratchett or Jane Austen and I found I was doing that a lot!😂 The reading events do suck you in. It sounds like Booktube definitely had a profound impact on you! Your advice is very wise, particularly about taking breaks- Booktube burnout is real! So pleased to hear your thoughts on this one - thank you for doing it!
Great answers to these questions. I agree that hearing someone with vastly different opinions of books is valuable. Many times those opinions make me reevaluate or l try to better understand my reasons for why I feel the way I do about a book.
I've been having that issue with tags and feeling like I'm repeating the same book suggestions. I'm dialing back and saving up the tags to sprinkle in more sporadically. It's almost time for Victorian Bro!
I started off thinking that romance books were a waste of time too. I worked in a bookstore when I was about 19 that specialized in romance and mysteries. Women would come in with big boxes of romance novels to trade in for more big boxes. I was intimidated by that. Now, I'm not sure what to make of romance. I like the idea of romance flowing naturally as part of life, within a broader context of family, work, political events going on around the couple, etc. Maybe that isn't how romances work. Maybe that's a historical fiction with a romantic subplot. I hate to bother you, but could you look at my time travel video? You were a history teacher and I wonder whether I thought it through well enough. I was trying to think of all the things that would need to be prepared for someone to successfully visit the future in a diplomatic sort of capacity. Thank you.
I thought your time travel video was great. Very well thought out. I didn’t notice anything missing or ahistorical. I am still very selective about the romance I read and usually wait until I see something recommended by people whose other reads negates align with mine. I don’t think it will ever be a genre I read often, but I’ve enjoyed most of the few romance books I have read.
I have not been a fan of romance novels since I was young and have even lost interest in them with age, so I am curious about the novels that have changed your appreciation of romance novels.
@@Sachie465 I haven’t read many and I got off to a slow start with a Regency Romance. Get A Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert was the first romance I liked and I recently read and enjoyed Beach Read by Emily Henry.

It's the same thing for me with tags. And when Jack tagged me for this one, I was really glad it wasn't a book-focused tag. Great answers.
