  • A compilation of some Marcus Allen's collegiate highlights at the University of Southern California. The epitome of a graceful runner, he glided through defenses for a record-breaking 2427 yards in his Heisman-winning 1981 campaign.
    The games I used to take the clips from can be found on Stephen Barnett's youtube channel (and there were a few other channels I used as well that you can find if you look around): / sbbarnett244896

    Marcus was so cool. He was so smooth. RB are soooooo under appreciated nowadays. They have so many different styles. Emmitt dashed, Barry juked Earl Campbell (or Marshawn Lynch for the younger folks) powered. Riggins plowed Dickerson galloped. Walter Strided. But Marcus glided. He just found space you didn't see. He made it look easy and he did it for a long time. Horrible how Al Davis tried to sabotage his career.

      Actually at 6'2 220 he has tons of power. Too many so called "experts" say this about him. It's a convenient complement but in reality he had a lot of power and good speeds MOST UNDERRATED PLAYER IN HISTORY.

    • @generatorx
      @generatorx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@7USC7 Allen was 210, not 220. This put him in a "hybrid" category where he was able to play the halfback and fullback. He did not have the power of an Earl Campbell or the speed of a Tony Dorsett, but his all around play could not be matched. Allen's speed was not great, but enough to play the position. He had more quickness than speed.

As I was watching reviews of Charles White (passed away) this morning, I noticed #33 blocking for him. 🤔...wait that number looks familiar. I'm not saying Allen was weak, he was possibly the best all around back to ever play the game. And while he may not have had the speed of a Chris Johnson or the power of Frank Gore, Allen could run, catch, block and pass on the option. While his isolated skills may not be among the elite running backs, his combined abilities and intelligence made Allen a HOF back. Remember that a whole is other than the sum of the parts.
