@woodwwad I can't think who.. Another universe, another deity.. Although 2nd ed Sutekh was a lot more like WoD Sutekh than the Chaotic Evil deity he became in 3rd ed for no reason. Thanks for the compliment as always, big guy!
I'm going to be storytelling for the first time with the setting taking place in New Orleans. Reading New Orleans Nights, I saw that Setites dwell around the warehouses in the docks. Along with reading their clan description in my handy V20 book, watching this video is a lot of help!
@87Julius Not at all. The clans all embrace a different aspect of the vampire mythos. The Tzimisce are the hoary old Eastern Europe castle-bound lords. The Setites are the tempters and corrupters. The Toreador are lusty and seductive. The Gangrel are bestial and ferocious etc. I seem to manage the setting pretty well, but I wouldn't recommend throwing in all the other settings if you're running Vampire. Concentrate on the one thing irst.
@mollytherealdeal They do it to either get vampires to owe them something or merely to show how much more in control of their faculties they are than the average vampire.
@tetsubo57 They're useful for when I play the piano. Sometimes one undead monstrosity has access to something you want or need. A deal with the devil etc.
I've never played one but I always liked the Setites. A Malkavian character of mine had a Setite coterie-mate. I like how these two clans are so "generous". The Malkavians wanting to share madness, the Setites wanting to corrupt and test others. Was Set the literal brother of Malkav or was it just through Caine's Embrace? The Malkavian clanbook is unsurprisingly ambiguous. Either way, our characters kept up the sibling rivalry dating back to Biblical times.
Personally I think the followers of set work better as a smaller sect independent of the cam or sabbat then a clan. However this was a fun video and a neat way to see it from their point of view.
Hmm, seems I know someone who follows Sutek, hmm, who is that? I like what you are saying about them being a cult. The fall from grace is so wonderful, it is really what makes the clan so wonderful. I really like the way they are shown to be almost another kind of creature in the WOD, it does make a bit of a problem when you try portray that while still being in the Generation rankings. Excellent job here.
@Chiived Caitiff? Yes, certainly. Serpentis would be an expensive discipline to buy for said Caitiff, but it could happen if a Setite embraced and regretted it or met final death soon afterwards.
Thank you for this guide. A friend of mine is just setting up a vampire group and i am really intrerested in the followers of set. This was... enlightening ;-) Cheers from Germany!
My favorite clans lorewise: 1. Followers of Set, 2. Tremere, 3. Salubri, 4. Cappadocian/Harbingers, 5. True Brujah (I know they're a myth) When I first heard of the name Followers of Set I thought it was about Seth, Cain's brother, because of the whole abrahamic cosmology thing.
Just listening to your voice on this video in particular I was wondering, did you ever consider doing some stage or voice acting? That is to say I really think you could...
Excuse my ramble, but I find it to be quite a jest of a sort, for while you were speaking of the "maggot infested meat" as a comparison the Setite expansion throughout the world, I had this commercial for "the best quality sirloin steak 60% discount" hammering my eyes on the right from the video I so wished to concentrate on. I'm going to have to replay this breakdown yet again.
So here's a question: How does the Philosophies of the "Setite Sorcerer" (Serpentis, Presence, Obfuscate) differ from the Warrior Setites (Presence, Potence, Serpentis)?
But if Set was ruler of the Upper Kingom that demanded that the rules of Osiris be kept out of his section of Egypt, why are the Setites so structured, with a purpose, with rules? If we are all divine sparks, who rule ourselves unrestrained by the judgement of others or the ethics pre-programmed into us, how can any Setite tell another Setite what to do? Ich bin wie Set, und Set wie Ich.
I don't suppose you're going to make a Tremere video any time soon? I know you said you don't like them so much because how they're overpowered. Which is true, in game terms the Tremere should already have killed off every other vampire clans by raining lightning on their heads. I think with a good GM their flaw can be pretty restricting, but yeah.
That is their weakness in the video game Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. The true clan Tremere has no real weakness but have developed an approximation of one over the centuries. These nights, members of clan tremere are very susceptible to Blood bonds and any Blood bond. that a Tremere is subject to is automatically a second level one.
1you could play vtm bloodlines its a computer game its quite fun 2Or you could round up some buddies or find a group of people get go all table top old school with dice and character sheets etc etc
I know this is a old video but why set and not Apophis or wadjet both would seem to fit way better for settiets powers and lore then set. Since set was a enemy of serpents and protected ra when he was on the throne. Is there wod lore that explains this, I know there is a rare cult of sobek in setiets lore but it seems set doesnt match the path of serpentis at all. If anyone knows please explain running a game with a setites that worships sobek and trying to wrap my head around all this and set just seems a odd choice to worship for a bunch of snake like vampires.
Hi. I know your comment is from years ago, but as a lover of VtM and Egyptian Mythology, I wanted to offer potential reasons. The most obvious would be that the writers really didn't delve that deep into Egyptian mythology. They wanted to create a "non-European" clan, and at the time Egyptian themes were mysterious and "romantic." Most people at least know the names Isis, Osiris, and Set. And Set's story could be molded into the WoD easily. So, going back to your question, why not Apophis or Wadjet? Wadjet is a lesser goddess of protection. She simply is without enough story to justify making a clan after her. As he says in the video, worshiping Apep (Apophis) would be demon worship and fall under the realm of the Baali clan/bloodline. Apep is a being of Chaos and Destruction, and wants to destroy the world/order and return everything to nothingness/chaos. Set simply wants to rule over it all. It's easy to see why Set would be the preferred choice for a clan founder. If you read the Setite clanbook you'll see that they took some elements of Apophis and gave them to Set. In Egyptian Mythology Set does not truly fight against Ma'at (Order), which is why he protects Ra. Set's powers of destruction fall more so under necessary evils in the same why that hurricanes, tornadoes, etc are. Apep (Apopthis) on the other hand, is determined to destroy order and the world. He wants to return everything to the primordial waters. In that respect you could consider him (Apep) as true evil. In the clanbook it talks about Set fighting against the beings of order, called Aeons, who want to subjugate everyone and take away free will, etc. Once again, this is an obvious blending of Set and Apep. I recommend reading the clanbook, if you have not already done so.
I'm not a VTM veteran, but I always felt these clans were kind of bizarre and hard to grasp. I don't feel like your exposé brought out anything that unique to work with, either. Do you think the setting becomes a chaotic patched work at some point? There can be only so many options before it starts becoming nonsense. Especially with all the other extensions - Werewolf, Mage, etc. Or maybe it just makes for a richer experience?
You have unusually long fingers. Who would ever cut a deal with a vampire? Why would a vampire even cut a deal with another vampire? The only way to win the game is not to play.
As the original designer of the Followers of Set, I tell you sir that you nailed it in perfectly! Very good video!
Very kind of you to say so! Thank you!
@@TheGentlemanGamer I would like to see a video on the relationship between clans and the opinions of one another. Fantastic video!!
@Onionkid99 I love the idea of Malkav, Set and Saulot all being actual brothers. It certainly shows three sides of an odd coin.
The Followers of Set are one of my favourite clans. Brilliant video!
The primogen of the followers of set would like me to remind you that their is no such thing as the serpents of light.
Exactly. . .smiles

Sutekh himself is fairly nebulous.
@87Julius I will indeed be doing so, and I do like the Tremere. Not sure where you got that idea!
Hmm, seems I know someone who follows Sutek, hmm, who is that?

10:19 Best gesture :D So vampiric.
That was another great Vampire Clan video. Never played with them, but their corrupting strategy makes them sound interesting.
@falloutmnky Me too! I like the range of sects, clans, bloodlines, paths, roads, disciplines and so on.
@decnet100 A surprising number of people have now suggested it, so I should really look into it.

Awesome Guide Mate!!!! Briliant job!
@herkles1 Thank you! I agree; it's difficult to see how a cult can be a clan as such, but it seems to work.

***** I didn't even notice that :) makes sense, because I always prefer the magical classes in RPGs
Hello my friend of Google plus :-)
elmetgwennhudkoad. I know its an old message but I personally like clans like Brujah and Lasombra clans that have physical strengh.
You should do a Gangrel video! They one of the most interesting clans in my opinion, and I enjoy these videos.
I've yet to read or hear much of it. I'm cautiously optimistic.
Just listening to your voice on this video in particular I was wondering, did you ever consider doing some stage or voice acting? That is to say I really think you could...
@odin422 I'm glad they're of assistance!
Ah. I do like how the Path of the Serpent was in the Old Ages. It was less clearly one-sided on the moral spectrum and more open to interpretation.
But how to get into it...
This is fantastic!
Tonight the first game will take place and my Follwor of Seth is ready to go. May the corruption light you path :-D
Childer is the pronunciation in Vampire.
So here's a question: How does the Philosophies of the "Setite Sorcerer" (Serpentis, Presence, Obfuscate) differ from the Warrior Setites (Presence, Potence, Serpentis)?
It's a matter of training apparently.
Hail the Lord of Northern Skies! Great video wish the clan was a bigger part of the game.
@alokov Next to the Tremere.
But if Set was ruler of the Upper Kingom that demanded that the rules of Osiris be kept out of his section of Egypt, why are the Setites so structured, with a purpose, with rules? I don't have much access to any information on the 2nd ed Sutekh. Was he really that much different than the third edition one?
i have just now heard of this game how do you play it?
@clackclickbang Three-sided coins are the oddest of all! Sounds like some Sigilian currency.
Warrior Setites are pure cultists and exist to follow orders. My bloodline thinks of them as Gargoyles in human form.
awesome video!
The west land was not reached by going across the atlantic
@vivaladanisawsomes Thank you! Very kind.
The Setites feel especially blessed.
