Hi Andy .. I have the Nymphomaniac 11' #3 which is a fantastic rod. I've been using it exclusively for the past month euro nymphing with a long leader for grayling. I noticed in your review that you up lined to a #4 line when you used it for indicator and dry fly fishing. In the spring I intend to use this rod for trout nymphing, indicator, and dry fly. I really don't want to be carrying another rod if possible. Would you recommend going with the #3 or #4 line. Also would you get the vision line that goes with the rod or any other that you could recommend. Regards Alec ..
I've had a 11' 3# since November, all I can say it's a stunning rod . An out and out bugging rod it flicks line out effortlessly, it has a handy snake ring one down from the eye ring to which it does help to stop the line wrapping round the tip. One thing I would say is the lock ring on the reel seat needs 2 lockers on it. One ring has a habit to come loose. I ended up putting a rubber band round the ring to hold it tight. The XO Graphene has the same problem!!!
Love the idea of regular tackle reviews! 👍 Because of the Vision's price I think I'll wait to see what other rods you review and make an informed cost/performance comparison decision. 🤔🙂
Have you used yours exclusively for euro nymphing ? Or Have you tried to cast a dry with it as well ? I’m really interested in it but for me it needs to be more of an all-rounder , would you say it fits this bill ? Thanks
Great review, format works very well. Just about to get my credit card out and buy my first 10ft rod. Is the Nymphmaniac 10' 3wt a better "do it all' rod than than the Scierra 10ft 2wt Brook rod would be ? Can only afford one 10ft so need one that will Euro nymph and Dry fly as well. (for the moment forget the fact the Vision is £100+ more expensive). Thanks
Already loving the re-view Tuesday (although to be honest, I really don't get the rhyme!). The markers on the rod is a great idea for a nymphing rod - off to mark up my Hanak Competition rod right now ! Thanks guys
I Don't get the rhyme either! I don't think Andy does 🤣 The markers are so useful, even if wanting a quick measure! Rod on top of the net, fish still in the water held up by the rod - perfect! ❤
I agree with your comments I was lucky enough to have a trade for a 9'6" 3wt Nymphmaniac and love it, Very sensitive and casts a leader or a dry fly line, I think Vision are on to a winner. Keep up the videos I do enjoy them. Cheers Colin.
I had chance to use one on driffield beck recently dry fly fishing with a 2wt line and i have to admit i have never used a better rod. Hopefully I'll get the chance to use it for nymphing this winter. Well done guys, great review 👏
For the guideline you are perfectly right because these rod was conceived by a competition finish fly fishermen, Jarko Suominen and in competition it is not allow to fish without a fly line. There are rules (in international competition) now to consider as not fly fishing if you have a long leader in nylon or fluoro and no fly line. Indeed it allows you to cast a real fly line. I use my 10 foot 4 weight with a real fly line in dry fly fishing and switch to nymph fly line when it is necessary.
I believe that the end of the fly line to the point fly can't be more than 2x rod length? I can't find the benefits to euro nymph fly lines unless fishing to those FIPS rules
Hi both. Here's a very late question on the subject of euro nymphing. I fish tight small rivers with low overhanging trees everywhere. Do you think a 10 ft nymph rod is suitable for that scenerio? Very interested in buying this rod, but not sure I would have the room to use it. Great video as always
Nice review you two!!! If you get the chance review the Airflo streamtec v2 10' 5# , very good for dries and dry dropper, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Keep em coming!! ATB Chris.
Hi guys I currently have the vison nymphmaniac in the 11 ft 3 weight mine has the locking down seat and a nice green rubber with the nymph logo on the bottom at end of the reel seat. I have had it for 2 months I have just started the euro set up I previously tried the method on a 10 ft 3 weight fly rod and the biggest difference is the distance I can cast and the reach is really well . Still to catch a decent grayling on it yet had a few out of season browns up to 3lb and the rod has some bend on it but plenty back bone in the rod to bully the fish when u need and don’t need to fear of fish popping off
Thank you both for the fantastic series - really helpful and informative. I am trying to decide between this rod or the Grey's GR80 plus stream flex. What do you think?
IB and Andy, i didnt realise you are Nufc fans...saw you on u tube last night :) . I use the 9.5ft , brilliant rod. Tempted to get the 10ft 3wt. You were happy with how it cast dries?
Excellent ReviewTue. Nymphos a bit out of my range but i noticed vision do a rod called the VAPA. it comes in the right weights and lengths for nymhoiding any thoughts on that would be great. its also half the price. much love keep um coming!!!
Excellent revue, but now I'm confused (again). I thought I was going to get the Vision Onki 10ft 3wt (yes I do like the colour) but now you show me this. I need to know how the Onki compares for dry and nymphing. Please help me avoid a nevous breakdown!!!!!
Another European test said it was actually a 2 weight in reality. Bought mine over a year ago. really like it, but I'm not good enough to make a valid judgement. Trout and Salmon mag had an appalling test in which they tested all nymphing rods by chucking 3 heavy nymphs. Whenever I've seen the designers fish it they use two....
Hi, how would you rate the 10ft 3 weight casting a duo of two heavier tungsten bead nymphs with 4-5mm beads? Perhaps the 10ft, 4 weight might be better for heavier double nymphs? what do you think?
A great review thank you both. Am trying to make up my mind between this rod and the Guideline LPs 9'9" #3 . I am hoping to fish the Usk when things permit and looking for a rod for both nymph and dry fly . I'm also curious about Levas Airflo vest and the blue device she's fitted to hold the rod butt , looks a very good idea to free the hands !
Just watched your review and thinking of getting into euro nymphing this rod was the one I looked at after all the reviews question is what would be a good reel to partner up with this rod thanks
Well in one of your other reviews you said reels just for holding line will be fishing Clyde and tweed river for brown and graylin so not expecting to use drap so what would you recommend from low to mid my rods I use the now are sage foundation 5wt and 7 at for still water with sage reels so that’s the range I buy thanks for quick reply

Hi spoke to u about rod and reel for euro nymphing see with the vision nymph setup what’s the best euro line to use with it sorry for all the questions but want it to be right before tying it lol
Hey guys, what rod would you recommend at a lower price point (150-250) for dry fly, and light wet fly teams on Irish rivers and lakes? I like the idea of using a lightweight sensitive rod so I can feel the fight more. My current rod is a 9'6 #5 scierra stonefly but I would like to drop down to a 3wt at around the same size or around 10' . I have read a full flex 1/1 pattern is what I need, and a medium action, is that correct? Any advise would be really helpful as I'm new to this, and would love to pick something up off season.
Hi guys! Second time I've watched this review now, as I'm looking for a decent nymphing rod. Initially, I was looking for something cheaper but having watched your review and read a few others, I may well pull the trigger on the Nymphmaniac. I doubt I'll regret spending the extra dosh! It's interesting what you were saying about this rod feeling like a 2 weight. This review... www.trout-and-co.com/article/gear/mouche/review-vision-nymphmaniac-10-3 ... echoes your comments and they seem to have done tests to show that it is actually a true 2 weight...
