Every time I watch Andy destroy one of these difficult ones, I think there’s no way I’ll ever get it. But with a little practice, a little patience, and his great teaching, I always do.
I forgot to mention in my prior comment below about how brilliant Andy is in his approach to both learning complicated songs such as 'Big Love' and in teaching them to others. He always tries to play it as close to the original artist as he possibly can, using his keen listening ability to pick out the differences even in the same song being played slightly differently by the original artist at different times. This is, in my opinion, why this is the greatest of all channels to learn from. He gives you everything he hears! From subtle timing changes to fingerpicking patterns and techniques and even the beats per minute. Always read the additional notes regarding the song...fascinating stuff. And for all you Buckingham fans, the video from his concert 'Songs from the small machine' are also great performance pieces and you will appreciate even more the mastery of Lindsey's work.
I've noticed that lately many tutorial channels have released lessons on Big Love. Really warms my heart seeing Lindsey Buckingham's INSANE live version getting loved more and more over time. Very thorough, meticulous work. Thank you for your notes as well - I rehearsed it for over 200 times, but still make mistakes - need to get back and will go step by step by your instructions. Tried it on various guitars, it really best fits with nylon strings on classical guitar, or guitar with wider fingerboard. 139 BPM is the best pace - like Lindsay plays live on the Dance. This songs fascinates me more and more - what a masterpiece.
Thankyou for actually following what he plays live, thanks to you, I’ve managed to learn this song over the last month or two and finally be able to play it over speed, MUCH APPRECIATED
This is an amazing tutorial. Ty. Even more impressive is the writing of this song. Unbelievable talent to write this. A song that is way better live than the original recording
I find for the chorus if you sing (even in your head) the words. "Lookin out for love, big big love" part. It actually really helps. It sounds harder than it is. But trying to hear/sing the words really sets up those little runs, especially the second pass.

He's seeing Fleetwood Mac on Monday sans Lindsey B I'm sad to say cause they cancelled back in March and are just now coming back round to honor the tickets but he was still part of the band back then so yeah bummer. Anyways I have a request. Andy is there any chance you could do some Gordon Lightfoot? Would love to hear your rendition of 'If you could read my mind' I've got some ideas on how you might arrange it but I bet some Lightfoot fans would love to hear you do Gordon justice.

Took me a month of Sundays to learn this years ago from a CD and tab in a guitar magazine, so much easier with a top player like Andy actually showing you how to do it! On some versions Lindsey thumps out the bass lines at 144 bpm! Better warm up before you jump into this!
i have to say, although your playing and teaching seem to be a head and shoulder above the most of the rest, your honesty in confessing how hard a piece this is very classy.
I'm finding this song so hard to learn. Especially part 3. I do like a challenge though. This will keep me busy for a few weeks. Genius to come up with this.
thank you so much for this. I am doing Lindsay in a Fleetwood Mac tribute. I've been performing your version of this now for a year, thank you much!. Also I'm now learning your lesson on the song say goodbye. Will be performing that in a couple of months.
Such a beautifully Written song with really tasty chords. It would be great to hear the whole thing as you play it at half speed I think it sounds actually better! And that's the Pickin patch crazy difficult song
LOVE YOUR TUTORIALS, LEARNED SO, SO, MUCH, KEEP DOING THIS YOU ARE A AMAZING PLAYER, AND TAKE THE TIME TO ACTUALLY BREAK IT DOWN FOR US NEWBIES, THANKS & GOD BLESS
Excellent tutorial. I wish I had this when I learned this song lol. I had to pause and rewind a VHS of ‘The Dance’ hundreds of times to figure out how he did it
The fact that a free lesson of such quality has so few views is criminal. And a testament to how hard this song is. I'm not making any promises, but I'm definitely giving it a go. Albeit, probably at 25% speed 😂😂
I learned this tune as soon as I heard it on The Dance (took me a few weeks). Then I read somewhere that Lindsay said that he can only play it if he is on tour, essentially practicing it, in front of an audience, 4 or 5 nights each week. He said that within weeks of the end of the tour, he has lost his chops can't just pick up his guitar and play Big Love; he has to play it over and over and develop the muscle memory again. I know what he means, but I have a feeling it comes back to him a lot quicker than it does for me.
Thanks for this awesome video lesson! It's perfect the way you have broken it down. I'm a novice finger-picker so I've been trying my own arrangement. On the second pass of the first 3 chords, I hit the B string on all 3 chords. I feel like it adds some more interest.
Shut up & play! "YES" It dose not get any better than this! How many times have I screamed at a tutorial shouting, "would you just shut the F up and play" This is the best guitar tutorial that I have ever seen! Much Respect, Thank You!

Do you have a slight reverb on in this video?
Yep, and a short delay.
@@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials I've watched this vid thrice and showed it to my teacher. this will def take up all of my free time to play at speed.
Shutup & Play - guitar tutorials love this. I recently suffered a stroke that left myleft hand immobile’ soo my guitar playin days has saddly come to a n end. One request please I have tried for the last40 years to figure out the intro to Poco’s You Better think Twice. Would love to seehowr that’s done. Cheers! And tank you for these vieos
Just got the first bit up to speed took about a month thought yeah this is doable and now I’m at another brickwall😂 love this song 💪🏼
I’ve been learning this in sections the last 2 months and I’ve finally gotten to the end and have learnt it! Thank you so much for the amazing tutorial :)
I know what I’m doing now, for two hours a day, for the next 3 months.
Thanks, great lesson.
neil phifer it’s been 3 months
Awesome job! Thanks a lot. Getting the Tab was super helpful as well!
Beautiful playing, it sounds like two or three guitarists. Way beyond my playing, but so cool to watch and listen!
Took me a month of Sundays to learn this years ago from a CD and tab in a guitar magazine, so much easier with a top player like Andy actually showing you how to do it! On some versions Lindsey thumps out the bass lines at 144 bpm! Better warm up before you jump into this!
and you are the only one who plays it correctly!
i have to say, although your playing and teaching seem to be a head and shoulder above the most of the rest, your honesty in confessing how hard a piece this is very classy.
the best piece of instruction on this song i'm aware of.
Thank you so much for this. The teaching and break down of the song is amazing. TAB is definitely worth downloading if you're struggling to keep up.
Man what a great tutorial, thank you so much, I’ll be working on this for quite a while, but you have laid it out perfectly.
A great tuition session, really clear and easy to follow. Many thanks.
I'm finding this song so hard to learn. Especially part 3. I do like a challenge though. This will keep me busy for a few weeks. Genius to come up with this.
another excellent and amazing lesson from Andy, the master!
This is one of your videos which shows us all just how good you really are. Cheers!
thank you so much for this. I am doing Lindsay in a Fleetwood Mac tribute. I've been performing your version of this now for a year, thank you much!. Also I'm now learning your lesson on the song say goodbye. Will be performing that in a couple of months.
Been obsessing over this song since I recently found your channel. Such a fun song to play! This is easily the best cover on TH-cam; well done 👍
Listen to this on headphones. He's done something special with it.
Such a beautifully Written song with really tasty chords. It would be great to hear the whole thing as you play it at half speed I think it sounds actually better! And that's the Pickin patch crazy difficult song
Awesome! Sounds like two guitars playing at once!
Wow, I can't believe that guitar has arms and can talk...
It also plays itself very nicely!
very beautiful song and a marvelous player and teacher...
LOVE YOUR TUTORIALS, LEARNED SO, SO, MUCH, KEEP DOING THIS YOU ARE A AMAZING PLAYER, AND TAKE THE TIME TO ACTUALLY BREAK IT DOWN FOR US NEWBIES, THANKS & GOD BLESS
Omg man, your so amazing good. You play exactly the same like Lindsey. Your a master of the strings.
Thanks again this really helps. One year in and still working it out. Great tutorial.
Absolutely incredible as always, was just going to ask for a lesson on this the other day!!
The start of the F and second lick....omg...its it does strange and lovely things to me.......
