    Sometimes a good thing can be taken too far. This 1966 HEMI had it's heads over-modified before Nick had a chance to get his hands on it. Now he's going to try and bring it back from the dead!

    The hardest part of tuning a semi is the damn carberation! It was then...it is now... Fuel injection makes life so much easier! The sound of a "hot" hemi is so beautiful!

    I had this exact 66 Satellite convertible 318 poly that the previous owner swapped for a 440 4 speed a back in
    the early 90's, but had to sell when I got married and had children couldn't afford to keep it, sure wish I still had it.
    Thanks for the reminder Nick.

    Nice work! Wonderful sound!. so was the SRT at the end. That '66 Plymouth that the Hemi is going in might not have had the original engine. It looked like a scalloped head 318 which was modified to eliminate the scallops shortly after the '59 Fury I had. By 1966, the head covers were straight along the edges, not scalloped like the one in the car appeared. So did the 273s, 383s, and 440s. Today it is called "Poly Head". We called it "The Semi-Hemi". My '59 Fury with TorqueFlite out-ran 389 GTOs.

    I really do think that Nick should send his vids to one of the networks, because this is better that many of the car shows that are currently on TV. He works with other brands, but it is Mopar dominant and these days the name sells very well. So between NG and GYC, it would be Mopar heaven for me and many others if it where to come to fruition. That is how Mark got his shot, and you will never know until you try.

    Love these videos the old Mopars are awesome. I've always liked Mopar engines. When I was much younger I had a 66 Plymouth Belvedere had that wide 318 engine in it how I wish it was still mine I miss that old car. My brother bought an X police car it was a 75 Plymouth Grand Fury had a 440 magnum engine I think it had a 600 CFM Holley carb. We used to race that thing all the time lol there was one night a guy in an Chevy Elcomino tried doing speed down on us to pass us we were doing around 45 my brother pulled that thing down in 1st gear and stomped it lol when he hit second gear that Chevy looked like it was going in reverse lol guy in the Chevy tried that twice but both times that old Plymouth walked off and left him. That car weighed over 6000 pounds but man was that one fast car to weigh that much. Knew another guy that had a 66 Plymouth Golden commando it had that big wide 440 engine he had a big Holley on it as well. He backed out of our yard one day and threw the gas to it I'll never forget that really low growling sound that dang 4 barrel made when it cut in. He smoked the tires so bad with that car that the folks coming down the road after he done that had to slow way down cause you couldn't see anything haha man that was the days.

    • @gerdesoto262
      @gerdesoto262 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wade Hicks; I had a 440 in a 1972 Dodge pickup half ton I did beef up the rear axle with heavier springs on the back and I loved it. When it came to pulling it never had a problem pulling. Plus I hooked it to a semi truck a few times because I had the semi stuck on ice and snow. The 440 and 3 speed automatic with a big transmission after cooler on it, it had no problem pulling about 76,000 pounds to get the semi truck free 20 feet all it was needed to get the semi truck free. The tires on the pickup would spin, but it would still pull it. I miss my 440 alot it got stolen from me in August 20 2013. The 440 is a real work horse, it was hell on fuel but I didn't care when I needed it.

      I had the exact same car back in the 90's 1966 Satellite convertible with a 440 4 speed, it was originally a 318 poly with automatic, but the previous owner changed it for the big block, it also had the owners card in on the radiator support as well. It was a fun car, wish I had it back .

      +1. Glad I wasn't the only one to notice that too. And the condition of that Certicard looks PRISTINE.. after all those yrs. hot/cold/hot/cold let alone changing seasons and the weather. It's mooring behind the radiator also survived well too. A/mazing the owner didn't know.

    Had a chance to get the new wires on the old '66 hemi? It hurts to hear it miss on the dyno! Thanks for all your work, Nick!

    Hi Nick. Just discovered this channel this morning after having watched the survivor T/A Challenger at the Julep video clip. I don't have a Mopar even though I admire their cars. I ride a replica AC Cobra, my dream car since I was 10 yrs old in '64. I live close to your shop - would like to place an ' Old School Home Of New Muscle' sticker somewhere in my engine bay. Subscribed. Cheers !

    That 66 convertible will need some unit body reinforcements.

    • @mark006868
      @mark006868 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh you mean like the special " unit body reinforcements" that all the 1966 convertibles already have? Do you mean those?

    • @markg7030
      @markg7030 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No. I mean all the reinforcements that " street hemi " cars have.
