I believe that + being mean to Lucas in EVERY single interaction with him is one of the few times in a telltale game your past decisions actually sort of mattered, even if it's something small like skipping that lever puzzle with the one you crafted ages ago as a joke, or Lucus being mad you treated him like shit the entire game lol and I REALLY wish there was more of that (havent played the sequel game so idk if more of that happened there)

I had some good time with it, but I'd still play something else. Like TWD, TWAU, Tales from the Borderlands, The Batman games ect. Not just "who will live or who will die" like in TWD season 4, even if your choices in that game do matter to some extent. It feels very cobbled together, HITMAN 1 was with SQUARE ENIX as their publisher, so they had access to make those lovely 3d animated cutscenes and was episodic . The tone of HITMAN 1 feels slightly darker and serious. HITMAN 2 IOI became an independent publisher, so the story and the cutscenes just became animated stills which sucked! And probably impacted the choices they could make for the story. While HITMAN 3 went with Warner Bros as the publisher, so we got in engine cutscenes. Look it doesn't matter HITMAN WOA is all about the gameplay, and for that its the best in the series! But the whole illuminati ultra evil bad guys, felt silly and cartoonish to me. I think all the Hitman games struggle with their story (except for Hitman: Contracts, which has a great story because 99% is literally just a dream as 47 bleeds out)

The story only ever changes for that section but the output is the same, It's a linear game disguised as a choose your own story game. The head canon you came up with was leaps and bounds ahead of what actually came to fruition. So glad that you enjoyed Dungeons for what it is. It gets decently hard at/around Apocalypse+. The gilding of tools adds dept, but it's the same deal as enchanting: shallow, tool only improvements. The flow and *eccentricity* of your content has me thinking back to the older days of TH-cam, with slightly awkward IRL skits (sorta like AVGN). It's a breath of fresh air from the traditional, stale video essays that plague our site today. The lack of a sponsor also helps! I don't comment much, but the fact that you frequently (and loudly at 3:17) have an opinion and are willing to argue it with an edge makes you stand out from the crowd. Perfect video :3
10:23 no? I’ve played through Minecraft story mode a few times and I do remember there being an option path that allows you to keep your build from burning, which makes you win the building competition.
I believe that is by asking your friends to stay while you go find Reuben alone or something like that.... I know in Popularmmos's playthrough they saved the build.
one of the dumbest things is that you CAN save the building in the competition in MC Story Mode and be the winners, but even though Axel mentions that the winners of the contest would meet gabriel the warrior, they never actually get to meet him until they have to ask him for help and they dont get allowed to enter
In Minecraft dungeons, there are villagers that you can find in side quests throughout the levels, that do allow you you upgrade the weapons that you want and also purchase more weapons
legends was definitely horrific, but story mode was absolute cinema and dungeons had a fun gameplay loop. id rather play story mode or dungeons than bedrock edition tbh
storymode on netflix was limited here are a list of downgrades netflix had: 1. when axel and the girl are arguing on what the group should build, jessie cant suggest his own build (zombie) 2. you cannot take the custom armor in Netflix, paying respect to whoever you chose to sacrifice Ig? 3. no episodes 6, 7,8 4. the biggest one: no moving around.

It is made as Story of the experience of Minecraft with gameplay elements and I think it does what it's trying to do perfectly. Do you really think they had a high enough budget to make the Story change that much, with new animations and voicelines. They would've had to have a budget 2-3x what they actually had to make it happen. It was the first ever spinoff, they weren't going to risk that much money. Also some of the actions you chose had massive chqnges to the story. For example when you chose to go with Axel or Olivia, half of episode 2 would be completely different. I'm sticking to my opinion that Storymode is peak, I still think you either never played it or watched it all the way through.
I still play Minecraft dungeons occasionally with friends. The weapon synergies are hysterical. You end up Barely scraping by while fighting hoards, and then against the odds you melt the boss enemy in a matter of seconds with the nuttiest weapon you randomly found. I would totally buy a Minecraft dungeons sequel for the multiplayer gameplay

Good video, but damn this is one hell of a surface level review of Dungeons lol. There are ways to upgrade your gear, you find the blacksmith which allows you to upgrade your gear's power level *and* reclaim the enchantment points. The sort of complexity you seek also exists in the later difficulties of the game where you unlock more enchantment slots and more gear, and the variety of builds also increase very drastically. And also I am not sure how the DLCs cost you $60..? The base game + DLCs cost me $40. It might be that the prices are higher on steam maybe?
A German TH-camr (named Jodarum) also played the story mode; he chose to find Magnus and later wear his armor. It turns out: While Jessie is in Boom Town, Olivia goes to get Elegard, and Magnus later died, and then Elegard left. Crap.

I watched @Tehsnakers video 2 days ago, I wish I had seen it before I wrote my script. I think he does a way way way better job than me at breaking down the themes of the game, same with the walking dead. Comparing the Telltale formulae of choice as more of an illusion. But I was quite pleasantly surprised at how our scripts had some similarities especially in season 2.
The funniest part about story mode is that the furst 4 episodes were made into a Netflix interactive series, it was pretty fun, and even better the choices actually mattered 😂
My usual strategy whenever I play Minecraft Legends is to get like 5 stone golems(they specialize in breaking buildings) and fill all of he other free places with mossy golems(they heal you and golems) and be invincible.

Two of my favorite games ever are Disco Elysium and Planescape: Torment which both have basically no gameplay besides walking around and talking to people. The difference is that they actually have compelling stories with choices that matter.
Somehow the high quality audio from the voice over has been ingrained in my brain as THE gerg voice. Now, everytime I see gerg irl, my brain thinks that's a different person. Every five minutes when it cuts between a voice over and a sketch I'm like hey, who the **** is this.

Hey Gerg i really liked this video as someone who played all these for a long time and my opnions are pretty close to yours but i did want to point out that in dungeons you can get a blacksmith to power up anything so if you wanted that wolf armor to have more health than you can just power it up. I know this isnt super relevant but the dlcs are genuinely really fun because they are so different from the main game with all the new enemies. Anyways, keep it up!
Minecraft dungeons nether dlc is actually really fun you sacrifice items to get a completely random level generation, the better the items the more rewarding the level will be, then you need to explore the entire level and find these rooms containing really hard bosses that give you really good loot for defeating. I think if they made more creative features like this it could have easily been a 8/10 game.
As a big dungeons fan I kinda agree with everything you said. I now realise that I love that game so much probably because of its art style. The point of its progression being only in the gear you get I think it was intentional to be more like Minecraft. Also, I dont think the artifacts were mentioned in the video which are probably the most fun way to enhance your combat

I still play Minecraft dungeons occasionally with friends. The weapon synergies are hysterical. You end up Barely scraping by while fighting hoards, and then against the odds you melt the boss enemy in a matter of seconds with the nuttiest weapon you randomly found.
I would totally buy a Minecraft dungeons sequel for the multiplayer gameplay

Good video, but damn this is one hell of a surface level review of Dungeons lol. There are ways to upgrade your gear, you find the blacksmith which allows you to upgrade your gear's power level *and* reclaim the enchantment points. The sort of complexity you seek also exists in the later difficulties of the game where you unlock more enchantment slots and more gear, and the variety of builds also increase very drastically.
And also I am not sure how the DLCs cost you $60..? The base game + DLCs cost me $40. It might be that the prices are higher on steam maybe?

The ending is basically always the same and the few times any decision does something it changes like 10 minutes of screentime

I watched @Tehsnakers video 2 days ago, I wish I had seen it before I wrote my script. I think he does a way way way better job than me at breaking down the themes of the game, same with the walking dead.
Comparing the Telltale formulae of choice as more of an illusion. But I was quite pleasantly surprised at how our scripts had some similarities especially in season 2.

Two of my favorite games ever are Disco Elysium and Planescape: Torment which both have basically no gameplay besides walking around and talking to people. The difference is that they actually have compelling stories with choices that matter.

Hey Gerg i really liked this video as someone who played all these for a long time and my opnions are pretty close to yours but i did want to point out that in dungeons you can get a blacksmith to power up anything so if you wanted that wolf armor to have more health than you can just power it up. I know this isnt super relevant but the dlcs are genuinely really fun because they are so different from the main game with all the new enemies. Anyways, keep it up!
After being a sonic fan living through 2013-2017, story mode looks like shakespeare compared to the bad writing I've seen.
Minecraft dungeons nether dlc is actually really fun you sacrifice items to get a completely random level generation, the better the items the more rewarding the level will be, then you need to explore the entire level and find these rooms containing really hard bosses that give you really good loot for defeating. I think if they made more creative features like this it could have easily been a 8/10 game.

As a big dungeons fan I kinda agree with everything you said. I now realise that I love that game so much probably because of its art style. The point of its progression being only in the gear you get I think it was intentional to be more like Minecraft. Also, I dont think the artifacts were mentioned in the video which are probably the most fun way to enhance your combat
