  • Claudine André founded Amis des Bonobos du Congo/Friends of Bonobos of the Congo in 1994. Her love affair with these endangered great apes began with Mikeno, an orphaned baby bonobo in the Kinshasa Zoo. Claudine discovered how important the mother-child bond is to the survival of baby bonobos. So began her lifelong commitment to saving bonobos and their rainforest home. This is her story, and the story of Lola ya Bonobo, the only bonobo sanctuary in the world. Filmed by Leon Haberkorn in 2019 for the sanctuary's 25th anniversary. #Bonobos #EndangeredSpecies
Lola ya Bonobo is the only bonobo sanctuary and bonobo release site in the world. We save endangered bonobos and their rainforest home.

I really do not understand why these animals are largely ignored. Chimps get all of the attention. I just turned 50 years old and only recently learned about Bonobos! These are amazing animals that don't get any attention. Makes me sad.

This woman is my personal hero! I secretly wish I could drop my American life and join her in the DRC for bonobo conservation.

This is the same fight we're fighting in Borneo and Sumatra to save the Orangutan. The same fight were fighting to save lowland gorillas. Put chimps in that conversation too. For being the most intelligent of the 5 great apes we humans surely are stupid.
