      Hey! I have an interview for this soon any advice and possible question they ask? Thanks :)

    • @LucyMahala
      @LucyMahala 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@elliefowkes7584 Hi :). It would all depend on which area you're from but generally they will want to know why you feel you would be good in this role, what skills you have that reflect the skills they've outlined that are essential for this role, what sorts of calls you imagine you might be dealing with so be sure to Google what the most common crimes or hospital admissions are for in the area you'll be working in. If your job interview is for handler AND dispatcher then they may ask you basic geographical questions for your area so be sure to look a little into the areas that would be covered by your place of work and brush up on map/location skills if you need to. They will likely want to test your keyboard skills, mainly how quickly and accurately you can type, so practice a little daily before your interview if you need to. They will likely ask questions along the lines of 'if you had two calls come in one with situation a and one with situation b which would you prioritise?' and they may ask how you would handle a call that came through as an emergency call but was not in fact an emergency. They will want to see that you have read in detail the application and have a good idea of what the role involves as well as what skills they are looking for. They will want to know that you have looked at the shift pattern on offer and they will ask your availability and flexibility with shift changes/days/times etc. They are also likely to ask questions such as 'tell us a time when you...' and will list situations that could show a similar level of stress/quick thinking required for this role, such as 'tell us a time when you had to use quick thinking to solve a problem' or 'when have you had to diffuse a stressful situation, what actions did you take and what was the outcome' so try to line up a few answers for similar questions to that. I know this is somewhat vague but like I said it really does depend on the area you're applying in and individual companies do vary the interview process from the next company. If applying to the police look into the local crime rates, gather some information about the particular police station you're applying to, get an idea of some basics about the area they work in etc. If applying to an ambulance service, look into the local hospitals a bit and gather some info about what sorts of calls they take most regularly. Just be as prepared as possible, be overprepared. It's better to have had the interview and you didn't need some of the information you prepared than to stumble and stutter on something you just didn't cover.
      Sorry this is lengthy! All the very best of luck to you! X

    • @katb4149
      @katb4149 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @gleny9636 The first part was reading through a scenario & then typing in the answers to the questions relating to the scenario. I had 10min to complete this. They are testing you on the THRIVE principles, ie Threat, Risk, Harm etc. I then had a role play whereby the phone rings & you have to answer it as if you are a 999 operator & listen to the caller speak whilst typing as much detail as you can about the situation, again this is a timed exercise. The final 30min or so were interview questions, what my current role is etc, then questions on how I prioritise tasks, how I resolve conflict, how I handle stressful situations and what diversity means. I can't remember all of the questions but you get the idea. The interview lasted an hour & there were two people interviewing me. I didn't prepare at all & wasn't expecting to be offered the position. Good luck on Monday.

    The STAR technique. I like that. I'm applying for a Fire Service call handler role. My previous role was a Technical Supervisor in TV broadcasting which was a daily stressfull and challenging environment with time constraints (working to seconds not just minutes and hours) so I can provide many examples of those transferable skills. This was a very helpful video. I'll be back to see if I can pick out some more info from your other clips.

    I will admit if I have made a mistake and take action to rectify this.
    I demonstrate pride in representing the police service.
    I understand my own strengths and areas for development and take responsibility for my own learning to address gaps.

    I adapt to change and am flexible as the need arises while encouraging others to do the same.
    I learn from my experiences and do not let myself be unduly influenced by preconceptions.
    We Analyse Critically
    (Need a example for this)

    I recognise the need to think critically about issues. I value the use of analysis and testing in policing.
    I take in information quickly and accurately.
    I am able to separate information and decide whether it is irrelevant or relevant and its importance.
    I solve problems proactively by understanding the reasons behind them, using learning from evidence and my experiences to take action.
    I refer to procedures and precedents as necessary before making decisions.
    I weigh up the pros and cons of possible actions, thinking about potential risks and using this thinking to inform our decisions.
    I recognise gaps and inconsistencies in information and think about the potential implications.

      @@DJSwezzleMusic I’m sure it was about 2 weeks. I ended up getting the job the assessments were listening to a voice recording and typing everything you heard. They look at accuracy of typing. And then a role play where you take calls from the staff and you gotta talk to them as if you were taking a live call. Hope this helps 👍🏽

    There’s no way I could remember all this especially not on the day tbh

      Don't worry about trying to remember the entire answers, instead, my advice is to just try to remember some key elements of the answers that you liked :)

    I have mixed feelings about this video...; on one hand I think it's helpful for potential interviewees, but on the other hand, I would not want someone passing an interview using this information, and ending up doing such a crucial job that they aren't actually well-disposed to doing.

      The interviewers are experienced and smart enough to see through anyone who is not being honest. They do this by asking probing questions. It's easy, if you are a competent interviewer, to detect if someone is not being truthful.

    I find these people are usually quite incompetent.They seem very poorly trained and unable to comprehend the urgency of the situation.I have found the same with all the telephone operators they usually say they are unable to deal with it. For example with the police when I have tried to report a crime being committed by a housing association who have failed to respond to an emergency which could potentially cause serious harm to a member of the public then the police have a duty of care to protect the public if the housing association is refusing to respond.They will usually tell me its not a police matter and to contact the housing association .It's been going on for months and the police are the problem because they are held back by incompetent idiots who cannot assimilate information correctly and are not properly trained in the area of expertise that they are supposed to represent They used to be good years ago but these new kids on the block are useless they give me the impression they couldn't even tie their shoelaces together

      @@CareerVidz Yes thank's for responding. Can you imagine how it feels to think that the one service you thought you could rely on tells you that it's not in their remit? I don;t know what the reason is for the way you train these people obviously it's the contract but it's not helpful if they cannot contact another organization such as a housing association who are not dealing with their own emergency. There are some things not in the contract such as the ill health affects of extractor fans long term noise abuse and being close to an electric motor running 24 hours a day seven days a week causing headaches and sleep deprivation could trigger a variety of conditions but if the noise disturbance is causing distress then the housing association should class that as an emergency and if they fail to act then the police or council should have the authority to protect the member of the public I find there seems to be a problem with the way that the emergency services are not allowed to contact other private companies even in an emergency They refer you to the complaints department but that's not going to help in an emergency if the other private company is not responding to their own emergency because they are negligent .Even the council can not force a private corporation like a housing association to act on an emergency .

      @@EIKLURAM The police are focusing on the real crooks, like murderers, rapists and arsonists, not people who leave extractor fans on. Are they supposed to come and arrest anyone who farts near you in case the noise startles you and gives you a heart attack?
