I won’t lie when I saw those two Jedi knights had their lightsabers disabled. My mind went to Cortosis. @@GenerationTech Movie Battles 2 decided to implement B2 battle droids that can have cortosis plating. It's hilariously effective vs jedi, especially with how a single slap from a B2 superbattle droid can knock anyone down except for a wookiee. So imagine this, you're storming down theed palace hallway, trying to dislodge enemy snipers to let your team advance. You notice an SBD firing down your line like the machinegun on 2 legs it is. You go in to kill it and... your lightsaber dies.
You get bitchslapped and shot to pieces.
Well, either that or a nearby stormie runs over and beats you up as you are flipping back onto your feet (it takes ~1 seconds - enough to punch a jedi to death with enough stormies).
Also yes, you got jedi storming theed palace that's defended by SBDs and stormtroopers.

I know right? This show is my no means perfect and there are some very cringe worthy moments but the amount of hate this show is getting is ridiculous. I saw a graphic on Star Wars Meg that the 4 episodes had allready been reviewed 25,000 times! Thats more than all of Mando Season 2! its being review bombed and a lot of people don't like the producers/directors so they set out to find every single thing wrong with the show. Then the LORE geeks lose their mind because something might go against lore when not everything has been explained. Episode 3 Kid Amundi andany of the Jedi council never mentioned the word SITH! So lore wasnt really broken was it? They thought it must of been a Jedi who trained her. Anyways, maybe everyone is going to die and the secret sith or whatever he is doesnt make it to the outisde world. Another thing..its NOT THAT DEEP. I agree that Kid Mundi being in it is weak sauce but I can get over it with these awesome ass fight scenes! The sith was BRUTAL in killing the Jedi! Best live action scenes since Clone Wars! I would love to see a movie version of the sacking of mandalore or the Sith Wars with the Jedi. Anyways...I give the series a B so far. Diversity is goo...Lesbian Force users of color? I've watched a lot of "top ten materials that can block lightsabers" videos over the years, so I immediately recognized the material depicted here, even if I didn't remember what it was called off the top of my head.
I also remember reading old Legends novels back in the day that took place in the era the sequel trilogy does now (The Legacy of the Force series is still in my opinion what the sequel trilogy should have been), and in one scene when some young Jedi are engaged by Mandalorian mercenaries, they're all stunned by the fact that their lightsabers just bounce right off their beskaar. The narration even saying "The revelation of 'My lightsaber doesn't work' is a very naked feeling for any Jedi." It really emphasized just how over-reliant the Jedi had become on their lightsabers to do basically everything. They weren't just weapons, they were the ultimate handyman tool that could cut through anything. So when you've carried one of those most of your life and go into battle with it only for it to be immediately rendered useless...yeah it's no wonder those Jedi redshirts were totally dumbfounded and easily dispatched by Darth Dudebro Biceps.
Though I am glad that in the new canon Cortosis is EXTREMELY rare, expensive and hard to refine and work with because let's be honest, it's OP as heck. Only the most skilled and masterful of Jedi killers should be able to use it effectively, otherwise everyone would be using it.

It depends on the concentration actually. Cortosis was already rare, difficult to work with and very expensive. A pure cortosis blade like the one Vader encountered could short out a lightsaber, but a mere weave which was more common (but still rare) would protect a sword or armor from getting wrecked by a lightsaber blade, similar to phrik or besker. But it wouldn’t short it out. Now I doubt the Disney showrunners know that, hell they might not even call it cortosis and just make up some other word or metal. But for now we can give them the benefit of the doubt and just call it “pure cortosis” in the Acolyte show until someone from Disney opens up their mouth and displays their ignorance. That still doesn’t detract from all the other legit criticisms and downfalls this show has: bad writing, bad acting overall, terrible pacing, lore breaking retcons with Ki-Adi Mundi and Anakin being the only “Force birth” etc.

@christianscrogins663 I'll ask this here since it seems safer than other places... how is Ki-Adi Mundi's age a Canon fact? I don't think it's ever established in any movie or TV series to date. If we are talking about Legends material...I don't understand the controversy. They've already discarded Legends as Canon...unless they want to use it here and there.

Also, high republic era, and MASS LIGHTSABER BATTLES! THIS is what I've been wanting out of Star Wars lately.

As long as you don't think about anything happening at all, you can enjoy the show. But the instant you start actually focusing on whats happening you notice stuff. For instance in this episode, Osha tells Yord to turn off his saber as the flying animals/insects are attracted by the light. Did they attack her and Yord after she directly shone into them with her droid flashlight or did any Jedi or "Sith" get attacked for their ignited sabers? Or even the fight with Qimir as a whole. He would've unalived every Jedi after their first strike against his Cortosis helmet/gauntlet. Or how at the start they didn't overwhelm him with their numbers and only a few Jedi at a time even directly engaged him.
It is all spectacle with minimal to no substance objectively speaking. It was correctly stated that the show isn't actually at ~13% Quality, but it doesn't get past 50% (objectively).
And this is the crux of the situation, most Disney Star Wars projects are straight up mediocre when they all should be at least a 6/10.

I was playing in a Star Wars game and we ran across a blast door made of the stuff that was intended to seal out Force users from the secret information within, so we tried to cut around the door, only to find out that the whole outside of the bunker was made out of it. A bit over the top, to say the least, considering that this would have been tons of the stuff, but it was made during a time when it was possible to mine that amount of it with droid mining we found out later.
The solution for entry was doing a co-operative "open sardine can" check using the Force to just bend a corner of the door open so a small person could go inside and open it some more. A lightsaber might be a universal key for almost anything, but so is telekinesis, if you pull hard enough.

The issue now is that LFL is picking and choosing which parts of the EU are canonical. This can admittedly cause confusion. Back in the pre-Disney days they went back and forth a lot on how effective Cortosis was against a lightsabre... or in general. I may be wrong, but the first time it came up was the Hand of Thrawn duology (or I, Jedi - I forget which way round those were written) and Mara Jade explains to Luke that while the ore shuts down a lightsabre blade on contact if the lightsabre uses a certain type of circuit anywhere in its construction (implying that almost every lightsabre in history needed that circuit in there somewhere) it is essentially useless against anything else.
The original Clone Wars multimedia project depicted refined cortosis as an insanely dense superconductor - so good at resisting energy weapons that it was used to make starship armour way back before deflector shields were a thing.
After a while it seemed to settle down to "in ore form it'll shut your lightsabre off, as an alloy it'll just block it" especially in KotOR when almost every melee weapon and suit of armour used a cortosis weave so lightsabres weren't insta-kill-bats, and what you were saying about mining it being like working with asbestos, only taken up to thirteen, if memory serves, that was introduced in the Darth Bane novels... or at least that's the earliest reference I have for how dangerous it was to mine it.

I never saw the animated series or read the books or graphic novels but it does not bother me if they introduce something into this world that I've never seen as that is what story tellers do. That's what tv shows do.
It also makes a lot of sense for the Sith to know about these items (in my mind) as they need every advantage to do what they do. The Jedi had hundreds of years mostly unopposed with a whole network behind them of support crew and historians but why would you research something that they haven't had to battle against in eons? Who would they use it on? Other Light Saber users? Who would that be, the Sith haven't been around for thousands of years in their eyes.
If it is hard to find, hard to make then who in the Jedi order would get the privilege to use it? And at what cost to the lives of those that would mine it? Now a Sith, where there are only two, it's a much more useful item to them. Also it wouldn't be a stretch to believe the Sith would use up any "resources" they had to mine such a dangerous mineral at any cost.

The big issue was that the show never mentioned or hinted anything about Cortosis. It would be so easy to include a line in the Jedi's investigation about Cortosis as a clue and give a brief explanation of it. Disney expects you to do your homework before watching the show, that's called bad writing.
"But I don't want to be babied by having everything explained to me."
Dumb*ss, the OG trilogy made time have Yoda explain the Force, have Han briefly explain hyperspace calculation, and the Prequels went out of their way to explain midichlorians among other things. Even the Sequel Trilogy unnecessarily explained that the rebel base the Resistance was going to was on a planet covered in salt. The Mandalorian was able to explain beskar by making it a consistent and prominent part of the story, each exposure telling you more about it.
Cortosis was EU/Legends and was introduced into canon too suddenly, it needed buildup for episode 5 so new people can actually know what is going on as not everyone reads every book and every comic. Disney has no excuse.
    edit:
Some people ignoring the point. Every single Star Wars film, and even the Clone Wars, made time to explain something new, but didn't need to explain every single detail, just enough to help the audience understand it and move along to get invested in the story. A simple introduction, if I don't know what is happening or why, I won't care no matter how flashy the scene is.
The show had countless opportunities to mention Cortosis, but instead focused on "Power of maaanyyy."
edit: Well, at least they mentioned it now in episode 6.

They don't need an excuse lol. A lot of things in Star wars happen without any explanation. No one explained how the force could lift objects in the OT, and it frankly has never been explained how it has in any movie or show since, nor how hyperspace actually functions. He explains the cals, but it took SOLO and TLJ for us to learn there's fuel for it. Some things don't need an explanation unless it's important to the plot or relevance. Without Legends, all we'd need to know is that he has a metal that shorts out lightsabers for a helmet and bracelet. In this particular case, I am sure they'd tell you why in a short conversation an episode or two later because ultimately it isn't important and only serves to make both the Stranger Unique, dangerous and more mysterious.
The Mandalorian culture around Beskar is important to the character both for story reasons and the character's history. Beskar gets an explanation because it will be used in every episode and has entire plot points surrounding it. media literacy. Pretty god damn simple.

The issue I feel with a lot of YT reviewers is that they can be SW fans and not have read all the books and comics or played the games. A lot of people just watched the movies and became fans, this will be their first introduction to cortosis so they might think its Lucasfilm f**king around again. But it is canon for those of us who grew up on the Legend books and yet fell in love with SW through the original three movies.

@@GenerationTech I suppose it all depends what makes a good channel to you and what doesn't. Some are labelled as hatemongers despite having solid criticisms, some of course are just filled with plain hate. I watch a number of channels on both sides of the divide and it baffles me that most of the vitriol is spewed by the defenders of Lucasfilm as they attack channels by name. Oddly, the ones that criticise Lucasfilm never do that, so who is worse?
And I have seen channels that come down hard on such shows as The Acolyte actually say nice things if they see them, for example the fight scenes in the most recent episode have been, if not praised, then at least complimented by people such as Nerdrotic and Critical Drinker, both of whom seem to be getting most of the flack from Lucasfilm defenders. Ok, they might criticise how the trees blocked a lot of the action from view, how dark it was making it harder to see the fight, but they still admit it was the best The Acolyte has offered so far.
They do this while saying how weak the writing is, how some of the characters are badly developed, how there are plot holes that make no sense, but these are legitimate criticisms, but such things seem overlooked by the 'Defenders' who simply go on the offensive with a personal attack on the reviewers themselves.

I get complaining about the story and writing and acting but nothing here as far a s I know is lore breaking so wehn everyone screams at that it's just stupid
Ki adi mundi has no idea this guy is a sith, nor what he looks like. His age is just a random number that doesn't mean shit. Extending it by like 50 years doesn't even change anything. Plus if you really care for a random number somebody made up for the sake of having a number remember it was never canon. I do agree he didn't need to be in this film, but it's not something to rage about
Smilo didn't even say he is sith, just implied he was a dark side user. He said the Jedi would call him a sith given his appearance. This does kinda contradict episode one where they don't believe qui gon tho but it's not lore breaking. Plus I think this guy is wrong in saying the Jedi would all collectively recognize him as sith when all they've heard is there's a guy with a red lightsaber. Remember, there are still 3 more episodes for them to explain it. Complain when their done cuz it ain't gonna change anything now if you whine
Armor is cortosis, very rare so you rarely see it being used ever. Jedi had no idea how to effectively deal with it since they haven't seen it in god knows how long and don't bother teaching it to their knights since they probably would never see it anyways, especially used by someone who is life threatening like another force user. I will say the way they showed it makes it too op, but considering even Darth Vader struggled a little against only a blade I think it's fine.
Nothing ever stated anakin was the only thing born out of the force. Even then, in this story the sisters weren't just willed into being by the force. There was obviously dark magic shenanigans behind their creation. And I doubt tenebrous would be too interested in this, even if he knew since his thing was with science and plagueis at this point either isnt alive or hasn't got too deep into creating life yet since he was born around when this show takes place in legends. Plus the sith don't know everything in such a vast galaxy. I will say however that this was just lazy writing.
If you like legends you would know retcons have to happen since most stories were written by random people in ways where they contradict each other. Some small retcons from already legends material are fine compared to the huge ones like the sequel trilogy where they just completely scratched DE and every else. Even if they went with legends everyone would complain since DE palpatine kinda just came back too lol. I will also note that most people hates palpatine coming back because of lazy writingz but there are still people out there who hate it because it's lore breaking, which it is. Truth is, legends ain't the holy Bible y'all make it out to be.
If somehow you take from this that I'm a fanboy for Disney then star wars is truly dead. Not only because of Disney but also because of the shittiest "fans" I've ever seen. People who judge a book by its cover and don't even bother reading it and also others who capitalize on these people by feeding them false info on said book. You can guess who I'm referring to (I watched this vid dw)
Basically, the lore ain't the thing to complain about, it's the writing. It's just people need more reasons to hate this show so they downplay everything else, like the lore aspect and the choreography which I personally think is good. Could just be my low expectations though.
Last edit lel it's fine if your coming into the show with low expectations, but if you come in already hating it then you'll only notice the bad parts and hate it more. That's the problem. Not that this show is getting too much hate (infact prob not enough given Disney budget) but instead how most of the hate is just for the sake of hating. Thank you for listening to my ted talk

So if we keep going back and saying they're breaking lore you fail to understand that they're literally creating a whole new lore take a look at the book timelines. However, this doesn't mean that they aren't going to use some of the lore, which is something George Lucas himself didn't even want to do. They deleted everything before New Hope. But they are staying true to the fact that the sith are great planners and deception is their number one goal. I guarantee that Mae is being used to infiltrate the Jedi order. The whole betrayal was all staged. How else do you kill a dream but from within? I also hope they bring in the plant that is able to prevent force abilities. It was used to keep the forced sickness which caused a lot of Jedis to go mad and incapacitated.
