as someone who lives in newburyport (and has recently fallen in love with your content), thank you for this video! I take this line very regularly, usually 1-3 times a week off of school year for daytrips and quite litearlly near daily during the school as I take it to beverly for that. Its a lovely little train and I usually look out the window when I am on it. the first part from newburyport to rowley is so pretty, and my favourite part is the salem area, where it goes over the water before the station! I sometimes ride my bike there n go 2 the malls nearby. The connection to north station is really nice. I use it to take the downeaster to old orchard sometimes as well as to the rest of boston! I love this line so much and I really hope it gets electrified one day!

Thank you for bringing us this excellent video, the towns the railway serves are very nice, I am glad that they have such a good train service. You all seemed to really enjoy your day out. As far as electrification is concerned, this is always good for a suburban railway as the acceleration is so good.

Nice video. This branch somewhat resembles the LIRR Greenport Scoot.

I believe that the MBTA train with the Amtrak car was a geometry train the MBTA borrows the "Corridor Clipper" from Amtrak

That looks like a great day out on one of MBTA's most scenic lines. I wish I'd had a chance to stop and look at some of the places along the line when I went to Rockport. Also New England placenames give me an odd sense of dislocation relative to English geography: having Boston, Lynn, Beverly, Manchester, Gloucester and Ipswich all on one 40-mile section of coast is just weird!

Awesome video displaying an uncharacteristically good public transportation for the US, along many lovely seaside areas.

Here is some history of the River Works Station (according to Vanishing Underground): The River Works Station opened in September 1965, known back then as GE Works Station. Approximately in September 1976, GE Works was renamed to the present name of River Works.

Oh Caleb, the North Shore Line went even further than Portsmouth. It was built as the main line of the Eastern Railroad, a fierce rival to the Boston and Maine. From Portsmouth, the line crossed the Piscataqua into Kittery, along the current alignment of Maine Route 236 through Eliot, and roughly paralleled the Boston and Maine Line to Portland, though staying further inland than the "Western Route". The Eastern was acquired by the Boston and Maine and most services were cut back to Portsmouth with through traffic to Portland routed away from the "Eastern Route" to the "Western Route"
E: Also, the smallest city in Mass isn't Chelsea but North Adams, at a population of ~13k

It would have been worth mentioning the Crane estate, adjacent to the beach, in Ipswich. And Lynn: what one say?
