Agro, draw, reanimator, control. Long ago, the four deck archetypes lived in harmony. Then everything changed when Underealm Lich attacked. Only counterspell, master of all four archetypes, could stop it. But when Ryan needed it the most, it vanished.

Yup. Did that once against a Gitrog player with the Frog out. Needless to say he won the game before the last Lich trigger resolved :D I completely misread the card, thinking you bottom the other two, not put them in the bin...
Gisela is such a beast of a commander. I had one in my playgroup who would play it pillowfort. In one game they actually milled someone... passively.

Underrealm Lich is very underrated, great card in any graveyard deck that can run it

I like that it replaces your draw so you can’t lose with an empty library also

It's a really fun low budget card for a 50 - 100 € restriction, except it's not low budget. Wizards and their mythic grift ruins it again!
Trevor's decks once again being on a completely different level than the others, in terms of both money and power.
I just lost twice vs a highly tuned budget deck with mehren at the helm. I could not do shit against him after 4 turns. Sakura elder and the famous viscera seer...
I knew who was gonna win before even watching the video. Playing Meren myself, she needs to be stopped immediately. The no graveyard hate really hurt this match.

You can tell how much experience someone has playing Meren, by noticing when they cast her for the first time
I was surprised he dropped her so early without prepping his board state for her at all (may have been a result of limited options in his hand at the time?)
Underrealm Lich is so underrated, not only it fills your graveyard but also gives you insane card selection and also protects itself!
It also protects its controller from milling out, since it replaces the draw.
When that Lich digged so deep in the deck, i was sure a Living Dead would end the game.

The lich is a really powerfull card. If left untouched, it wins games easily. Trevor showcased this nicely.

Underrealm Lich is one of my best cards on Muldrotha it combo so well with Silvan Library and my other draw engines.
5:55 You missed Ryan also sacrificing The Locust God to Ashnod's, so I was confused as to why it was in the graveyard when I looked back

this is an interesting budget build of Locust god. but I do prefer my combo version though. there are so many infinite combos you can do with locust god its insane.

The fact that the threat assessment this game was absolutely terrible, Meren is on a whole different power level and letting a Underrealm Lich live for multiple turns is a bad call.
That wheel effect was also very bad, I dunno if Gisela realized it was a bad call but the fact they wheeled with it on the board basically handed the game to the Meren deck.
He probably didnt understand how underrealm worked.

Every turn you just make tokens in excess of the etb creatures you want in your graveyard, sac enough tokens to get them back, basically to the effect of living death, and just throw in a couple edicts and a syr Konrad and GG

I have a insects tribal izoni before blex I could switch the commander but I am waiting for grits
i just played my Grist deck last weekend for the first time. 40 insects. Holy moly it was good. I was up vs the Witherbloom life-gain deck + a (c)edh edgar deck. I lost cuz of 2 instances of my yard being exiled and could not ult even though i had around 20 loyalty counters on him. he got destroyed twice :P I guess it means my deck works fine!
Patriarch's bidding also got me around 16 insects back from my yard around turn 6 XD. The boardwipe hurted me badly.
All in all. Go for it. Grist is nice commander and the 'ult' is probably not even the way that you are gonna win. But with an army of bugs
@@afspeellijstnaruto yes but that is the same with allot of insects you need a bord and a graveyard but if you don't you do not have a win in any other wha but it is a fun jank deck I might just have grist in the deck or a commander I don't know yet plus I don't have one
@@serpentdrake4490 Well I pulled him out of a booster so I felt like building him(sketched version sadly..although it is growing on me). It is janky and still feels like a typical golgari deck, but with indeed more janky (and flavorfull imo).

That Counterspell was extremely premature. There's no point in countering a Meren with no creatures in her graveyard.
Countering the Underrealm Lich would've delayed Trevor a lot more.
The same person also wheeled with the underrealm lich on board. Can't expect much from that player lol

Why does he run polluted delta in Meren? Is it strictly for fetch and is it allowed?
Yeah to be able to fetch dual swamps and it is allowed since the fetchlands have no mana symbol on them so they aren't outside any commander color identity.
Polluted delta is allowed because it is a colorless land that has no basic land-type (if it was an island swamp, it would not be allowed in Meren's black and green color identity). Fetchlands work with ramunap excavator.

I dont understand why a meren player would want leyline of the void on the field 🤔😳
Exiles your opponents yard continuously but not yours!
Later on the Meren player plays a living death. Pair that up with a leyline of the void makes it unsymmetrical and strong. So maybe to stop other graveyard decks (which there are alot of) and to stop any symmetrical effects they have in the deck.
Oooooh i always forget its not a symetrical effect 🤣 make a lot of sense now
