Thanks for checking out our newest deck tech! We're hard at work preparing deck techs and set reviews for the new commander content in Ikoria and Commander 2020! Stay tuned for more updates there. What decks are you most excited about building in the new set?
Pulled Meren from a Mystery booster and got a deck together with mostly CQ recommendations cause of my budget but you gave me some really great ideas for upgrades to throw in over time! A lot of them are reasonable too. Thanks so much for a great vid!
Have you consider satyr wayfinder instead of elvish rejuvinator? He draws 4 put a land in your hand and the others go in the grave yard. Also 1 less mana so you can start pulling him out and saving him faster
Hi, just stumbled across your video and subscribed. It's been well over 12 months since you did this vid. Any upgrades since then? Cheers and keep up the good work!
i prefer nim deathmantle + ashnods altar + geralf's messenger. Since the latter has undying you can sac him to the altar 2 times (=4 mana) before using nim's trigger (costs 4 mana, so free) which results in geralfs messenger etering the battlefield as often as you like, which results in infinite damage due tu his etb: whenever geralfs messenger etb's, deal 2 damage to target opponent. This has the advantage of messenger only costing 3 black mana which is a lot cheaper and not needing blood artist or zulaport to isntantly win and not be suseptible to boardwipes. generally speaking, with mikaeus or tormod out you can trigger the etb or deathtrigger of any creature (exept maybe humans :D) an infinite amount of times with ashnods + deathmantle.
on another note, if you are not on budget switching out triskellion for a walking ballista is an option due to the lower mana cost (you only need to spend 2 mana on it for it to go infinite with mikaeus). the fact that you can't res it through conventional means is a bummer if you rely on self mill a lot or if you wanna use burried alive to assemble your combo though (tutoring for an eternal witness to get it back into your hand is quite a hoop :D)
Krav is a pretty cool sac outlet! I don't know if I would personally run him in the current build I have; however, now that you point it out, I kinda wanna test him just for fun. The card draw could get pretty bonkers in a Meren deck that creates a lot of tokens.
Wait a sec... Ashnod's Altar + Grave Titan/Avenger of Zendikar + Nim Deathmantle + Krav (one black mana for each opponent) is actually an infinite combo to mill out your opponents which is pretty funny. Combos or not, I like him. Let me know if you end up testing him out and if you like him in your Meren build. In the end, he's good even without combo if just for the card draw.
I have put it in and taken it out of this deck so many times. =/ I don't know why, but I always end up taking victimize out of decks. It's not a bad card at all! I guess I've just had too many bad experiences with it. I would never fault anyone for playing it though.
You are absolutely right. Good catch. Hey, as I said, I've only recently gotten my hands on a couple of these and at the time of this recording had only played it once. I guess that when I recorded this I just had 7-3=4 in my head because of the 7 generic mana in the cost. Haha. Thanks for pointing it out and for watching the video! -Kaleb
Hi, thanks for watching! Kaleb here. Sorry for any confusion. I was referring to Sidisi's ability to search your library for any card and putting into your hand as Demonic Tutor because it does the same thing just on a creature. So, if you play Sidisi, exploit Sidisi, you get to tutor something from your deck. Then with Meren's ability, you can return Sidisi to the field at the end of your turn (assuming you have enough experience counters) to then exploit Sidisi or another creature to tutor a second card from your deck into your hand. Thus, getting two Demonic Tutor effects from Sidisi in the same turn. I hope that clears things up. =)

Great video. I absolutely love Meren. I got her premade edh deck and it rapidly became my favorite commander to build around.

I love this deck. It feels so classic. It looks kinda like my Vævictis deck.
Thank you for this very well done video! Subscribed!
With all the sac effects how do you keep defenders out of your stuck or are one mana away from getting meren out
you can use walking ballista instead of triskelion and protein hulk to tutor the combo off of possibly pod

Tergrid definitely going in
Also how do you protect meren when he’s out I’d imagine someone would kill him ASAP
Things like Heroic intervention, Swiftfoot Boots/lighting greaves help out a lot. Not perfect but definitely harder.
You should have at least 5 reanimation spells not just two I have been playing meren for years now
What do you think of krav, the unredeemed🤔

No Victimize?
