    The rate at which glaciers are melting today is faster than any other time in history. What intrigues you the most about this unique look at Iceland?

      It's a awareness video of our planet Earth what is Glaciers and how they evolve time to time through the glaciers how we are benefitted and how we get crushed by them. This 7 minute video pushes us to know more about Glaciology. Their efforts are not to make money from it money is secondary priority is to share the knowledge with us , over 10 percentage of land is covered with Glaciers. Let's learn more about our planet Earth.

    I spent 6 weeks at this glacier, Vatnajoküll, in 1970 doing my undergraduate project on micro-climate on the glaciers. Of course the glacier front was several kilometres closer to the coast in those days. I can see one of the hanging valleys in the video had an ice dammed lake in it at that time. Now it is well clear of the ice front. The morphology of the surface of the glacier is affected by the black volcanic dust (tephra) that settles on the ice. First it increases the the albedo causing increased melting then as it accumulates in the sunken melt areas it forms a thickening blanket that protects the ice from melting. It causes some interesting surface topography with melt structures moving uphill on
    the glacier surface.
    Thanks for the memories!

    What happens to ice happens to us.....🤔like: vanish......extinction.......that’s worth thinking about. We’re intrinsically linked to the planet. We’ve forgotten that we’re part of her and made of the same stuff. We’re NOT separate. What happens to the world, happens to us. What we do to earth, we do to ourselves!

    • @wayneparkinson4558
      @wayneparkinson4558 ปีที่แล้ว

      pre industrial 1650 we were thought to be in a cooling down period of the inter glacial until the first signs of warming started its thought ,Theirs obviously large variations of up to 6.c between tipping points which can happen rapidly so that's why the skepticism persists i think, Saying that theirs no doubt warming is happening and you will get cooler years in-between .It's CO2 methane levels which will really dictate what happens next they are currently at a 600,000 year high apparently Mother earth is so dynamic it could be as simple as increased plate tectonics volcanic ridges eruption activity under the sea is the big unknown?
