For instance, it looks like the pre- Build Planner days were incredibly tedious and annoying for personal inventory management. But the thing that has me most curious is his use of Park/ "P" when connecting ships to the base. In every other series he always rails against Capac for doing it, and always adds it the connector to the hotbar, so it is really odd seeing him use "P" constantly. Anyone know when that habit changed?
I think it was just prior to Survival Unlikely and I'd first had the experience of things dropping off connectors. That's my best guess, mostly based on telling Capac off for it in the early days of survival unlikely :D

@@Beef4Dinner22 Yeah Splitsie is awesome like that, I have gotten similar responses on this and other of his older series. It's one of those things that makes me coming back to his older content.
That looks super cool. I like the way that the yellow blocks give the feeling that they are pipes running the length of the ship, even though they are not, fitting excellently into the industrial feeling. I did find that leaning heavily to the right, almost to the point of falling out of my chair, helped top get the Butterball onto the connector when returning to base.
The blank wall in the refinery section screamed to my, large bulletin board display. I can already picture the board cycling through general performance stats of the "company" which needs not any bearing on actual production but seemingly applicable facts and figures, to safety protocols and retirement locations and some short adverts for private vessels with maybe a few inspirational quotes mixed in. Something viewers on your channel might catch glimpses of and get a kick out of.
I think this is one of the nicest looking mining ships I have ever seen in Space Engineers. Really nice, and I will definitely be downloading this cool ship.
Keep up the good work! I'm sure it must take a great deal of effort but for those of us without a clue, it's nice to relax and see how it could be done successfully!
Why did you put two sorters next to each other on both sides? You could just place one and then fork the conveyor leading to two ejectors. Like this, for example (> is the sorter, ^ are the ejectors and other lines are conveyors): ->┐ ++ ^ ^
See, it would save you 290 kg of ship mass and 5 seconds of setting up your sorters. This negligence is the sort of things that gives you nightmares. ;-)
Unless there was a rebalance, one small conveyor sorter weighs 180 kg and one small conveyor weighs just 35 kg. That's the added mass of 11 construction components, 4 interior plates, 5 small steel tubes, 5 computers and 1 motor. Double that for both sides of your ship. For some reason blocks don't have the same mass as the sum of their components and components have different mass than the ingots used in their construction. You should install Build Info mod that will tell you block mass and other information: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=514062285
So I've not been playing SE that long. On survival and it's, so far, one of the greatest crafting games I've played. I've watched most of you "Earth pod drop" vids and I've got to the point where so I've upgraded my basic ref and assembler to main ones. Now I'm upgrading my miner. You're tutorial on projectors and this ship build has been a god send. Thanks and obviously subbed and liked!
Dang it someone told Splitsie about the reverse thrusters ... I wanted to see his reaction when he would have found out himself, something akin to: "Why am I slowing down... OHH some of my breaking thrusters are on ... why are they on?!?"
I used this blueprint from the workshop last night, it was challenging to weld some middle parts, but I made it. I only self some small armor block unwelded in the middle, that I will finish later when I make a welder ship. I will test it later, but I am sure it will fly beautifully. Ty very much your great vids.
Near the end there I ran into the same problem with my miner sinking as I got up to the base. so yeah, I too think the atmo is a little thinner there and so the ship does not quite get a 100% thrust when reaching the base.
Ah, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing it at those altitudes, I feel like there might be a more stepwise reduction in power than gradual and the base is just barely above one of those steps...
butterball ... mmmm nice gobbler for thanksgiving ... and yes it's a brand name for a butter substance injected turkey ... they aint too bad ... and usually end up with few left overs as everyone gobbles em up
Thanks! That was one of those connections that was meant to be short term temporary. I really thought I'd have built a garage/hangar by now. I guess if I don't get onto that soon I should place some stairs in :P
You should mount a huge version of the area map on the ceiling in the main room. Also, you were sinking every time you tilted the ship forward because you still had the forward facing thrusters off. If you aren't flying absolutely level, you need all your thrusters on.
The reverse thrusters were on when I was sinking, I had put them on as I pulled up to the station. I think it was an atmospheric density thing as I was also going higher in altitude as I returned to base. There might be a step-wise reduction in efficiency and the base is just barely above one of those steps. I'm planning on putting a large version of the map on the wall in the entrance area :)
It was a very strange bug, I'm not sure what caused it but I've checked some recordings I did today and they're ok. It's something I'll keep an eye on for the future :)
I had the same problem happen to me a few times, and when playing a different game and alt tabbing i have had an issue of having 2 cursors in 2 different locations one windows cursor and one game cursor so i am guessing that when the cursor in wrong place bug happens I think its possibly getting the windows cursor location mixed up with the game cursor location, other then that I have no idea.
Good to see the Butterball done..Looks way better painted and with the design tweaks. That darker shade is a better fix for the shoulders. I like that spray gun:-) Base looking good too..so nice episode.. Although if you would please stop with the high altitude heart attack..That would be great. (Butterball is high in cholesterol it seems :-D )Almost a
I wish I could stop that too! That was incredibly stressful as I hit the ground twice and the roof once, each time I was worried I was going to get use out of the projector much earlier than planned :P
At first I was wondering why you added so many sideways thrusters, then I recalled all the times I have tipped over my miners when they got heavy and had a moment of growth. Great design! Puts my gustav miner to shame.
Thanks, it's my favourite design I've done for a miner. Always some bits that could be improved, but it works reliably and efficiently enough for me :)
I know this video is quite old but i tested your little ship, it is one of the best designs on steam workshop but i see some flaws 1: Upward thrust is a bit to small and when i loaded it to the brim with iron, well better do not try to descend to fast as TWR is barely over 1 2 that show another problem large thrusters are not surrounded with armor and are first to break when I hit the ground, also most of butt armor was gone with them. 3 3 back thrusters are extremely vulnerable and I destroyed them going backwards in mine, also turning in narrow corridors damages them as well. I think thrusters are even more fragile than before. 4 Pitching up and down to get more vein often destroy large thrusters cause they hit ceiling and flor quite often 5 landing gears are quite useful, they stop the CLANG, 3 times miner exploded landing with full cargo, also they mitigate rough landings damage. Here is my design: Front is identical like yours I just swapped tubes for joints, right and left from cockpit are reverse thrusters like yours and large thrusters(Upward thrust) so it has same width like your craft, after large thrusters 2 pairs of medium containers and second pair of large thrusters giving all thrust you need to stay in air. between second pair of containers is large reactor, space between first cargo containers is designed like yours with ejectors, I just added single battery cause running UP, SIDE and FORWARD thrusters sucks up whole power from reactor and it is nice to start-up reactors after running out of fuel. I got 10 reverse thrusters 6 side thrusters under cargo containers and 9 forward thrusters(large one wont fit on back and stick out 1 block, just to be safe I also added 3 up facing thrusters, so I can dig straight down,3 runs are ideal for mineshaft. Also I armoured up all thrusters so they never stick out, tested by ramming my base (Need new walls and roof but miner was undamaged). Sadly my miner looks like flying brick, somewhat military looking but still brick (I was never good at aesthetic) but thanks to 4 large thrusters it can (With weight 57000kg) not only lift ewry inventory full of ore but also thanks to landing gears take (by accident) scouting rover still having considerable TWR. Again thanks for great tutorials they helped me a loot when I first got the game.
Thanks to your videos that was one of may first "Working" vehicles. I watched some videos and said: this can't be to hard: attempt 1: Not enough lift. 2. more bosters, not enough power 3. Full Kerbal, need new ceiling 4. flip 5. flip 6. flip 7. oh there are gyros in-game! That list could be much longer, but I found your tutorial :)
I usually use engineer turrets to make my ships and bases look like other ppl are actually there, and with exploration(?) or encounters mode comes flight-seats with engineers sitting in them, could also be useful.
I have another question, why you are always using remote control to fly your ship. When you have a cockpit? What´s the difference of cockpit using or remote control?
The butterball I'm flying directly, but the ugly duckling doesn't have a cockpit it's just got a chair so I have to use the remote control block. If I've used the onboard remote on the butterball it's through me not being able to think properly whilst also talking :P
I actually didn't know about the ctrl function doing a 3x3x3, the others I was familiar with. Thanks for that, it's always nice to know some new shortcuts :)
That would be very handy - I haven't seen one and I don't know if the programmable blocks have access to that info, but if they did it would be very useful for mining ships :)
Nice, the Butterball looks really good! It seemed to me it may have been sinking when you angled up too much, though height and efficiency also sounds very plausible - just something to keep in mind!
Thanks Rich, that certainly could have played a role as well. Hopefully I'll manage to keep it at around 100,000kg and it should prevent future (almost) disasters :P
I used the same design but left the extra boosters and added 2 more batteries as well as two more horizontal inline drills it allows me to mine up to 156k with no lifting issues
The atmospheric thrusters got a buff to their lifting capabilities since this was made so I'm not surprised you were able to get away with more carrying capacity :)
love it dude *BUTTERBALL* made me laugh almost falling off my bed lol the colours are just right for it also are you going to put that industrial look in the inside in the confinement room thing?
Glad you liked it :) I'm thinking of that sort of industrial look throughout the base, still trying to work out how I want to do the corridors so they have that same feel. I'm planning on testing out a few design ideas in creative before I go messing about with the actual base - I think it would drive everyone insane watching me change my mind 20 times in a video :P
Since everything that's going to have to pass through a mining ship can pass through all size of conveyors I only need the connections to be small and everything is connected up from the drills, through the cockpit, through the junctions that join to both the cargo containers and the ejectors. The connector is then attached to the bottom of the cockpit :) If the cockpit gets destroyed the whole system fails, but then the ship would also drop out of the sky and failure of the conveyor system would be a small part of my worries :P
Splitsie yeah I know the small conveyors work I didn't see you put junctions on but you said you did so kind makes my question void :P thanks for reply and I love this series it's done very well it's very entertaining and I want to see allot more also are you using the no uranium Mod?
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it :) I modified the earth-like planet to remove the uranium deposits, sadly at the time I didn't know how to get rid of the boulders so those are still there, but I'm just purposely avoiding them in the recordings so I don't get tempted :P The link to the mod is in the description as well
Found you a few days ago when Wedghog and W4stedspace name dropped you in a stream. Gotta say I really enjoy you methodical building style. Keep the good work up. As far as that blank wall in the Refinery room maybe you could set up Taledans Inventory Management, check spelling, and the associated displays so you always have a ore, ingot, component counts.
I still haven't managed to see that bit of their stream - sadly I don't have time to watch all of W4sted's streams at the moment. Hopefully they said something nice :P I like the idea of having the refinery wall be my inventory displays, I'll have to keep that in mind when I get around to upgrading it :)
Splitsie Yeah they had nice things to say. The comment that got me was that your video style was basically the opposite of W4stedspace's in that you have a plan for each video and them actually get that plan done. Where as if you watch any of his streams it always," Hey we are going to this. Ooooo look a distraction." Nothing wrong with it but, it certainly makes me appreciate the work you do.
Thanks, when I first started making the tutorials I had a sequence pre-planned for each of the videos and I found it helped me with the survival series if I had something in mind to do before I started recording - without it I struggled to talk enough to keep things interesting :P At least W4sted only has the lack of talking problem when he forgets to turn off his mute button ;)
what really happened with you 'losing power' was: your upwards thrusters on their own didn't provide enough lift, but every time you lifted the nose the forward thrusters helped provide lift which is how you got on the roof. so if you struggle again just lift the nose again.
There's a weird way you can also gain extra lift by just moving a ship with the gyroscope as well, but since I've balanced my power output you might be right that the reverse thrusters can add a tiny bit of lift if I'm only slightly off the level. I think I'm probably safest to just be a little less greedy and stick to 100,000kg :P
Been meaning to catch up on your Survival series, really enjoying so far! If you are still looking for a program for that second PB (I know I'm a few months behind), have you considered Drillstop? It turns off the drills when they reach a certain % filled, and it goes on ALL my miners along with Isy's battery script
I'd have to check if I stop drilling before the drills are full or not, I don't recall but I think they are still empty when I reach my maximum load...
that's what I use the script for, after some trial and error I know I can fill the drills to, say, 80% or 70% before the ship starts getting sluggish. So on the next mining runs I can turn on drills and ejectors and keep mining until the drills turn themselves off, no switching to inventory screens or trying to remember relevant ship weights for different miners. . . the lazy man's way! :D
I'm very curious what your ideas would be for the best way to manage some sort of underground base. I'm currently playing on Armageddon so I'm trying to figure out the best defense for meteor showers basically every 5 min
I've been thinking about using the catwalks inside the hallways more. I think I'm going to have to try a number of different setups in creative before I'll be happy with a look for the main hall as I really want it to be impressive :)
Splitsie also, for backup thruster power if you start dropping randomly, you could put a backup hydrogen thruster, there is a mod for more compact thanks, I use the tanks to build almost all of my hydrogen ships, and I think it would fit nice for a backup in case there is an emergency, like a power outage or damage from mining or a attack.
I was tempted when I started this series to attempt building a completely hydrogen powered mining ship, maybe I should look at this again and see whether it's practical, it'd be pretty handy to not be using much power from the base...
I still think it needs a second set of parallel skids..but now I don't know where you should put them! Also, new rule proposal: you're only allowed to build in grey (and maybe white), any painting/recolouring must be done with the gun.
Yeah, the armor design does have some intricate parts, if you're building from a projector this is absolutely the sort of thing you want to enable 'show only weldable' on, then it'll be a little easier to see what's going on :)
Thank you for sharing your build of the new ship. I am new to the game and lack enough knowledge so far to design my own from scratch. I was going to download your blueprint but decided to just use your ship as an inspiration and list of things I want on my own. I do like the paint mod that you used. Makes things a lot easier I am sure. Quick question for you though. How far along should I be before I consider making or attempting to make a mining ship? Should I have an installation with plenty of power first? Should I make sure that I have the capacity to make parts in large quantities before I create one? Also I would like to find out if you can create a list of parts required to make a mining ship, such as you need projector, ore finder, antenna, gyro's etc...
I'm remaking my survival tutorial series at the moment and planning the second video to cover making a mining ship, so for me, I'd be building a mining vessel as early as possible since it boosts your resource availability very quickly. The alternative approach (since the release of the survival update) is to build something mounted to your base on pistons/rotors and use that to mine stone and collect the basics. So for me, as soon as I have a basic assembler and refinery, I'd be jumping straight to some sort of larger miner :) With the assembler (not the basic one) you can queue up required components by searching for specific blocks which would be a 100% vanilla way to get close to what you're hoping to do. There might also be some calculators out there for components, but most will be out of date since the component list of a lot of blocks has only just changed. I believe there are some scripts that will order up the required parts for a blueprint, but if you're just starting out, trying to get your head around that may lead down the road to frustration :P
@@Splitsie Thank you for the reply Splitsie, it sounds like I am at the stage where I should be looking at bigger miners then. I have the basic refinery and assembler already and have marked several locations with the ores I will need. I guess now I just need to get my power production up on my base in order to be able to keep a miner charged when not in use.
I can't send you the direct link since I'm at work at the moment, but if you go to the video description there's a link to the mod collection in there. The mod you're after is the animated interaction mod :)
Kudos for the neater terminal! I really did get annoyed last 2 episodes, decided to wait until the end if that will be dealt with and voila! I really appreciate that. ^^ Also I noticed that Isy's battery script does marvels except it keeps a battery hostage? I saw that on your terminal one of your batteries was losing power while connected. Programmable Block mentioned "Reserve battery" so I think it keeps a battery running as a failsafe for program failures caused by nonexistent power output. Just noticed it on your video though.
You weren't the only one, I had a few comments, thought about trolling everyone and leaving it like that, then realised I would drive myself insane in the process :P From what I understand of his script, that's exactly how its supposed to perform, it does switch the reserve battery to keep them at close to 100% I believe so you don't lose too much power capacity :)
Someone using and spotlighting the Paint Tool mod! Excellent! Are you having an altitude issue with thrusters or is it more of a power issue (related to the script perhaps)? Besides forking the conveyors from one sorter what else could you do to reduce mass? Are small tires less massive than full block light armour? Are you going to install a set of stairs to the roof?
I'm amazed I haven't seen it around more, it's an awesome mod - and one I've had and used since it was first released :) I think light armour is the lightest that you can use, so there's not much I can do to lighten the dry weight :( As for the stairs, I thought the roof connection was going to be temporary so I hadn't intended to put any stairs in, but given how long temporary has turned out to be, maybe I really should :P
You should fairly easily be able to take this design and slim it down to 2 drills if you're looking for more compact, but by my standards the butter ball is pretty compact :)
Somewhat surprisingly all the designs I built in this series still work just as well (or better) than they did when I first built them. The main change since then that's noticeable in the videos is that wind turbines didn't exist until right near the end of the series and while I had to mod uranium out of the planet it's now the default :)
Hey splitsie do you have any recommendations on what specs someone should use to run SE well, cause I'm looking into building a new rig when GPU prices go down again (fingers crossed that's soon)
In terms of my own direct experience, I have a GTX 1080 in my main PC and a GTX970 in the server PC - the one used to record the time lapse shots. Both of these very comfortably run SE with high settings so you should be able to run it with much less and still enjoy the game. I don't have direct experience with much else in recent versions of the game. The other side of things that's important to keep in mind is that SE uses a fair bit of RAM so you should plan for a minimum of 8GB and ideally 16GB to run things reasonably well. Looking at the recommended stats on the store page: RECOMMENDED: OS: Microsoft Windows 7 (latest SP) 64-bit Processor: Intel Quad Core i5 @ 3 GHz or higher (or AMD equivalent) Memory: 16 GB RAM Graphics: Geforce 780 GTX or higher Those seem like they are current based on my limited experience and would allow you to play with planets with decent graphics settings
I don't play SE... I own it, but I don't play it for 2 reasons... 1: I'd get so very very very lost down the building/design rabbit hole... 2: I tried and just couldn't get a handle on the controls and kept getting killed... Which frustrated me to no end. So now I just watch others play it and get entertained that way...
Ship dropping this happened to me a couple times while I was flying over mountains. My ship just dropped luckly when it hit the ground it started to fly again
I think it was an altitude thing since the atmo thrusters get less efficient the higher up you get but when you're close to the margins it's really hard to slow down properly :/
It was a tough balance on this one, I think I could use a couple more lifting thrusters, though as soon as I add those I'm going to need more battery power so that I don't drop when I'm making directional moves. I spent a fair bit of time trying to decide where the balance was going to be best, but I'm not sure if I got it right - I was happy with the styling though :P
Idk if this will be seen xD but anyways, splitsie do you do the voice over of the video after you play and record? Got the doubt now that mention that the pointer was off but looked fine to you while recording.
It's hard to remember as this was a long while ago, but I think that had something to do with the resolution I was recording at vs playing at and the way that shadow play recorded it. 99% of the audio is recorded at the time for my let's play stuff, with only occasional rewording or editorial comments done in post (explaining something more clearly if I jumbled my words as an example, or more recently when I apparently forgot to talk about an aspect of a build entirely). You can normally tell when I'm doing it because my tone of voice will change 🙂
Just so you know. You said in 2020 that would make your tutorials in Vanilla, But not in Scenarios. I know this was almost 3 years ago. Just sayin :) Sorry. Just realized this was a playthrough and not a tutorial. My Bad. I love your work and your vids! Thanks for helping a new player in 2020, way back in early 2018!
You're welcome - this series was the first playthrough style thing I'd done so it is very heavy on the tutorial side of things just through that being my only experience with solo video creation at the time. Even my current series still are a bit that way so while they may not be vanilla there are usually bits a pieces that I drop that'll be useful :)
@@Splitsie ALL of what you drop are useful. I was just being a snob if you will of sorts. I called you out on something that ws clearly inaccurate based on my error. You are the king of this game and I continue to watch all of your videos(There are a lot...) Thank goodness for that hehe. You are very appreciated by all.
Is weird watching all these old videos lol. Clearly things have changed alot in a single year lol 2 large thrusters in my game holds 150k easy, I get slow around 175kish Maybe it's something else but idk lol
Super Jay Wolf Press whatever button you Pushed to select the item on your toolbar (eg. if I have Light Armour Block on my toolbar in the number 2 spot if I press 2 to select it then 2 again to change its size). So just push the corresponding toolbar button again.
The same key you used to select the block. IE: If you press the 1 key to pick a large grid Gyro, than you can press the 1 key again to change to the small grid version of the gyro.
I think it had something to do with the rescaling from 1440 to 1080, but Nvidia fixed the problems I was having with shadowplay so I rarely use OBS anyway :P
again me: i built your ship but it seems like the thrusters can't handle even the empty ship, idk what i am doing wrong, constantly 100% battery even though i havent done anything yet =/
made the game in creative mode to test, copypasted it, works... strange world we live in, especially since the thrusters worked until i finished the ship
It sounds like one or more of the batteries was drained during construction, the design still works normally (I'm still using it) but there have been a couple of times where the game has bugged out and thrusters haven't generated any force when I've expected them to, especially in multiplayer :(
When I started designing ships, I went into creative mode to test the thrusters on how much weight they could lift safely. I knew their theoretical limit, but that doesn't apply to real life. I found that my current setup uses 2 large and 2 small lifting thrusters for 110,000kgs GVW. My current setup only weighs 34,000kgs empty, which means close to a 4:1 ratio. With that said...I think you have WAY too many thrusters on this rig. Just my opinion, which means nothing.
Thrust output has changed since I made it, so there may be a little more than is needed, but I suspect it just allows me to know completely fill the cargo space, but I haven't tested it recently
When I am in a hole drilling, if my ship touch The ground i cant move it!! I tried 4 large Thrusters and... Nothing. Up, back... Nothing. If you can help me... As always 😅.
Do you have a landing gear on your ship? If so and it's set to auto-lock then you may have locked to the ground accidentally so no matter how much lift you have you'll be unable to move. Try having a look at your landing gear and see if it's showing green, if so it's locked and you'll need to unlock it. If that's not the case then it's possible you're overloading your power so adding more thrusters won't help - if your power read-out on the right of your hud is going to 100, then you may need to lighten your ship as opposed to adding more thrusters, or add more thrusters and more batteries :)
@@Splitsie Its Power. I saw it... 100 limit. 😅 I made a New one. I dig vertically... Its workimg now. But The problem was energy. Thank you so much!! Im watching Your serie now... Knowing about scripts.
I know how you feel - Capac's almost always my teammate ;) (if that didn't make sense take a look at my other series and you'll understand very quickly) :P
splitsie! this video is constrained and wont go in HD. if you use sony vegas you need to remove the "mantain aspect ratio". You may want to take this video down and re render it. also theres ugly black bars on the side :(
What sort of purpose/function are you looking for in the ship? I've got plans for a few different things, not sure how soon I'll get around to any of them but I've got plans for a more robust tank, a truck for the butterball and some hydrogen powered vessels for fighting and scouting to name a few.
That's a pretty decent challenge, trying to come up with a fighter design that looks decent while having enough thrust to stay aloft no matter the direction and not having said fighter look like a ball... I'll keep the thrust minimums in mind when I eventually get around to designing a fighter :)
So Splitsie, I noticed something eerie about your voice. You sound EXACTLY like someone on a different channel, he works on a channel called Planet Dolan, his name is Zaraganba. Are you hiding a secret identity from us? lol I'm kidding, but if you take a look at Planet Dolan and try to look for Zaraganba's narrations I think you may find he sounds eerily similar to you.

2 years later and Splitsie has finally finished his ship... XD
While that's usually true for me I think this is one of the few designs I completed and have barely needed to upgrade since :)
Thanks Mick, I needed it, I don't think my leaning would have been enough on its own :P
I might have almost tipped out of my chair...
On a side note, is that you in your polys in your profile picture?
Affirmative!
This ship is my goto atmo miner. Love it - thanks Splitsie!!
Oh yes! I love this idea, I can do some screens having real info like cargo information and others with random smatterings of business jargon :)
I think this is one of the nicest looking mining ships I have ever seen in Space Engineers. Really nice, and I will definitely be downloading this cool ship.
Thanks Shaun :)
Keep up the good work! I'm sure it must take a great deal of effort but for those of us without a clue, it's nice to relax and see how it could be done successfully!
Thanks! It's something I really enjoy doing so it's more time than effort :)
Why did you put two sorters next to each other on both sides? You could just place one and then fork the conveyor leading to two ejectors. Like this, for example (> is the sorter, ^ are the ejectors and other lines are conveyors):
->┐
++
^ ^
I guess I could have done it that way, just didn't think of that solution at the time :P
See, it would save you 290 kg of ship mass and 5 seconds of setting up your sorters. This negligence is the sort of things that gives you nightmares. ;-)
Wow they're that much heavier than the conveyor blocks? I might have to fix that up
Unless there was a rebalance, one small conveyor sorter weighs 180 kg and one small conveyor weighs just 35 kg.
Nethan2000 well you did some research...that’s what I call dedicated!
This is a wonderful survival miner. Well done.
Thanks, it's still the rough design I go back to even now - don't think I'd ever put this much thought into one before :P
Best series of Space Engineers on YT !!!!
You're too kind, thank you! :)
Just finished building it using a projector, wonderful design, it's a major upgrade on my little pod/miner.
Paints mining vessel yellow, names it the butterball...can’t lift it up the connector....lmao
Dang it someone told Splitsie about the reverse thrusters ... I wanted to see his reaction when he would have found out himself, something akin to: "Why am I slowing down... OHH some of my breaking thrusters are on ... why are they on?!?"
Cool, I look forward to trying this miner out.
It's already up on the workshop for you if you want to take a look :)
Already have - thanks. I've not built it yet though. Will do this evening.
Gotta say man, love the series, giving me a lot of ideas and also inspiration to start my own series! Keep up the awesome videos man!
Thanks so much :)
I love the chubby ufo-ish shape, thx for this build and for uploading on the workshop! I'm using this in my survival run.
Hope it serves you as well as it has served me :)
@@Splitsie It does! I like my builds thicc!
I used this blueprint from the workshop last night, it was challenging to weld some middle parts, but I made it. I only self some small armor block unwelded in the middle, that I will finish later when I make a welder ship. I will test it later, but I am sure it will fly beautifully. Ty very much your great vids.
After watching all the newer videos, I decided to watch all these and now I actually know what this legendary butterball is!
Still my favourite ever mining ship 🙂
Near the end there I ran into the same problem with my miner sinking as I got up to the base. so yeah, I too think the atmo is a little thinner there and so the ship does not quite get a 100% thrust when reaching the base.
Ah, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing it at those altitudes, I feel like there might be a more stepwise reduction in power than gradual and the base is just barely above one of those steps...
butterball ... mmmm nice gobbler for thanksgiving ... and yes it's a brand name for a butter substance injected turkey ... they aint too bad ... and usually end up with few left overs as everyone gobbles em up
Because butter makes everything taste better :)
Really nice little ship! But if you want keep its parking space on the roof, you really need a some stairs.
29:15 "It will set them up automagically" - I'm stealing that word!
No idea where I first heard it but it's so perfect to not use at least sometimes :)
Cursor is not matchin what you were seeing while you were playing... Happened to me too.
Transition to console took really well, some trouble with connecters (dnagers of P) also really liked the intagration to the truck for blueprint
Thanks :)
I would have called it cerberus the three headed dog for ancient Greek history
That would have worked too :)
Or the hydra🙂 but Cerberus is probs more fitting since ur digging to the underworld where Cerberus actually lives
I know this video is quite old but i tested your little ship, it is one of the best designs on steam workshop but i see some flaws
1: Upward thrust is a bit to small and when i loaded it to the brim with iron, well better do not try to descend to fast as TWR is barely over 1
2 that show another problem large thrusters are not surrounded with armor and are first to break when I hit the ground, also most of butt armor was gone with them.
3 3 back thrusters are extremely vulnerable and I destroyed them going backwards in mine, also turning in narrow corridors damages them as well.
I think thrusters are even more fragile than before.
4 Pitching up and down to get more vein often destroy large thrusters cause they hit ceiling and flor quite often
5 landing gears are quite useful, they stop the CLANG, 3 times miner exploded landing with full cargo, also they mitigate rough landings damage.
Here is my design:
Front is identical like yours I just swapped tubes for joints, right and left from cockpit are reverse thrusters like yours and large thrusters(Upward thrust) so it has same width like your craft, after large thrusters 2 pairs of medium containers and second pair of large thrusters giving all thrust you need to stay in air.
between second pair of containers is large reactor, space between first cargo containers is designed like yours with ejectors, I just added single battery cause running UP, SIDE and FORWARD thrusters sucks up whole power from reactor and it is nice to start-up reactors after running out of fuel.
You're very welcome :)
I'd never planned to fill it to capacity so I'm glad you were able to modify it to your liking to get that working :)
Thanks to your videos that was one of may first "Working" vehicles.
I watched some videos and said: this can't be to hard:
attempt 1: Not enough lift.
2. more bosters, not enough power
3. Full Kerbal, need new ceiling
4. flip
5. flip
6. flip
7. oh there are gyros in-game!
That list could be much longer, but I found your tutorial :)
As usual, lovely to see another video of yours. Just sad I wasn't up late enough to see it initially published.
Hopefully a nice wake up then? :)
Splitsie Definitely. I'm assuming from the time you post and the accent that you're in Australia? I'm in a bit different time zone.
Yep I'm near Sydney :)
I normally publish my videos at 7pm local time which translates to 0800-0900 UTC depending on daylight savings
Listening to you build sounds like a dentist looking at your teeth lol
I was thinking the same type of name. I was more on a "Nuggets" train of thought. A chubby little nugget, that mines lots of ore nuggets.
Definitely something chubby :D
Dude you understand that the large Atmos would easily lift the full ship, and that small ones are just dead weight
Nice new miner! :D
Thanks! :)
I usually use engineer turrets to make my ships and bases look like other ppl are actually there, and with exploration(?) or encounters mode comes flight-seats with engineers sitting in them, could also be useful.
It's certainly more fun to pretend more people live there, it also makes more sense given the scale of my normal builds :)
Ye, I guess :D Miner kinda reminds me of a Millennium Falcone from the backside xD
That's a backside comparison I'm happy with ;)
I have another question, why you are always using remote control to fly your ship.
You can use ctrl, shift, or both while painting to do a 3x3x3, 5x5x5, or the whole ship. If you want to save time. And then do accents on the outside.
I actually didn't know about the ctrl function doing a 3x3x3, the others I was familiar with. Thanks for that, it's always nice to know some new shortcuts :)
Splitsie haha, I knew about the ctrl function but didn't know about shift or ctrl shift until recently by accident.
That's exactly how I found out about painting the whole grid - might have been a little annoyed that I'd just undone all my paint work :P
@45:00 Maybe there's a Script that will shut off the Drills at a certain Ship Weight?
That would be very handy - I haven't seen one and I don't know if the programmable blocks have access to that info, but if they did it would be very useful for mining ships :)
Nice, the Butterball looks really good! It seemed to me it may have been sinking when you angled up too much, though height and efficiency also sounds very plausible - just something to keep in mind!
Great name too!
Glad you liked it :)
I'm thinking of that sort of industrial look throughout the base, still trying to work out how I want to do the corridors so they have that same feel. I'm planning on testing out a few design ideas in creative before I go messing about with the actual base - I think it would drive everyone insane watching me change my mind 20 times in a video :P
I like your design but isn't it a big flaw not to use any conveyor junctions it seems that the cockpit and 2 cargo containers shouldn't empty right?
Since everything that's going to have to pass through a mining ship can pass through all size of conveyors I only need the connections to be small and everything is connected up from the drills, through the cockpit, through the junctions that join to both the cargo containers and the ejectors. The connector is then attached to the bottom of the cockpit :)
If the cockpit gets destroyed the whole system fails, but then the ship would also drop out of the sky and failure of the conveyor system would be a small part of my worries :P
Splitsie yeah I know the small conveyors work I didn't see you put junctions on but you said you did so kind makes my question void :P thanks for reply and I love this series it's done very well it's very entertaining and I want to see allot more also are you using the no uranium Mod?
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it :)
I modified the earth-like planet to remove the uranium deposits, sadly at the time I didn't know how to get rid of the boulders so those are still there, but I'm just purposely avoiding them in the recordings so I don't get tempted :P
The link to the mod is in the description as well
Splitsie your videos are helping a ton!! Around the 35:20 mark, what script are you using to show the battery levels on the LCD? Looks awesome!!
I don't think the one I used back then still works any more, but there are a bunch of options on the Steam workshop these days
The (Butter-Ball) 😂 Brilliant! 👌🏽
Thanks :)
You Greeble and Paint very well Sir....
You recreated Battleship Grey... I approve!! :)
Thanks :)
Hopefully they said something nice :P
I like the idea of having the refinery wall be my inventory displays, I'll have to keep that in mind when I get around to upgrading it :)
Thanks, when I first started making the tutorials I had a sequence pre-planned for each of the videos and I found it helped me with the survival series if I had something in mind to do before I started recording - without it I struggled to talk enough to keep things interesting :P
At least W4sted only has the lack of talking problem when he forgets to turn off his mute button ;)
what really happened with you 'losing power' was: your upwards thrusters on their own didn't provide enough lift, but every time you lifted the nose the forward thrusters helped provide lift which is how you got on the roof. so if you struggle again just lift the nose again.
There's a weird way you can also gain extra lift by just moving a ship with the gyroscope as well, but since I've balanced my power output you might be right that the reverse thrusters can add a tiny bit of lift if I'm only slightly off the level. I think I'm probably safest to just be a little less greedy and stick to 100,000kg :P
that would be best
Just saying but a rounded blue fin tuna is also called a butterball :)
Nice, now it works on another level :)
For walk ways, you could put cart walks without railings to direct you around base.
Splitsie that too, I'm just taking about a thruster or two so you don't have a hard landing
you amaze me every time :)
Thank you! :)
You could say it was an abandoned construction site that you found after your escape pod from whatever ship went up in flames. 🔥
I thought I'd try to stay away from the crashed ship cliché since I've already done a machinima that starts with a badly damaged ship :P
ive enjoyed watching these videos more than the actual game, which i just found tedious
I still think it needs a second set of parallel skids..but now I don't know where you should put them!
Also, new rule proposal: you're only allowed to build in grey (and maybe white), any painting/recolouring must be done with the gun.
I'd be tempted to stick with that rule, it's quite satisfying having a sound effect go along with the painting :P
Yasss :D a new video for breakfast!
Hope you had a good breakfast :)
The refinery wall would look good with a big "TIM" LCD showing all the ores & ingots etc...
Yeah, I like that idea. I'll do something like that when I get onto the upgrades for it, thanks :)
Awesome video
Thanks :)
havin alot of fun tryin to replicate this build - not getting material into left rear container tho atm, very strange.
Did that container accidentally get rotated so the conveyors no longer align?
it LOOKED fine honestly. Anyway that one crashed hard, second build works just fine haha.
Just testet it out, it works way better than my huge mining “block” you should call it. But is was really a pain to weld it 😅.
So for me, as soon as I have a basic assembler and refinery, I'd be jumping straight to some sort of larger miner :)
With the assembler (not the basic one) you can queue up required components by searching for specific blocks which would be a 100% vanilla way to get close to what you're hoping to do.
Can you link me the animation (Mod) you used when you entered the medbay and pressed the button with your finger pls?
I can't send you the direct link since I'm at work at the moment, but if you go to the video description there's a link to the mod collection in there. The mod you're after is the animated interaction mod :)
Kudos for the neater terminal! I really did get annoyed last 2 episodes, decided to wait until the end if that will be dealt with and voila! I really appreciate that. ^^
Also I noticed that Isy's battery script does marvels except it keeps a battery hostage? I saw that on your terminal one of your batteries was losing power while connected. Programmable Block mentioned "Reserve battery" so I think it keeps a battery running as a failsafe for program failures caused by nonexistent power output. Just noticed it on your video though.
You weren't the only one, I had a few comments, thought about trolling everyone and leaving it like that, then realised I would drive myself insane in the process :P
From what I understand of his script, that's exactly how its supposed to perform, it does switch the reserve battery to keep them at close to 100% I believe so you don't lose too much power capacity :)
I'm amazed I haven't seen it around more, it's an awesome mod - and one I've had and used since it was first released :)
I think light armour is the lightest that you can use, so there's not much I can do to lighten the dry weight :(
As for the stairs, I thought the roof connection was going to be temporary so I hadn't intended to put any stairs in, but given how long temporary has turned out to be, maybe I really should :P
Yayyyyyyy you named it after my suggestion!!!
It was a good suggestion :)
Can you design a compact version? I need a more compact design for a drone launcher im designing. But i cant get the balance right.
You should fairly easily be able to take this design and slim it down to 2 drills if you're looking for more compact, but by my standards the butter ball is pretty compact :)
20:55 pull finger for gas :D
I am new to space engineers. Have there been any big updates since this playthrough
Looking at the recommended stats on the store page:
RECOMMENDED:
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 (latest SP) 64-bit
Processor: Intel Quad Core i5 @ 3 GHz or higher (or AMD equivalent)
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Geforce 780 GTX or higher
Those seem like they are current based on my limited experience and would allow you to play with planets with decent graphics settings
Splitsie darn can't afford a 1080 rn thanks ether miners
But yeah I'll probably just get a 1060 or 1070
With either of those you'll be fine from what I've heard, you certainly don't need a 1080 :)
HA! Butterball Turkey. That's funny right there.
I think I might have had food on my mind when I decided on that one :P
You need the tiered modded thrusters.
I'd have called it the Badger because of the stylish top lines... :)
You could totally do a reskin of it and call it the badger (or skunk if you were so inclined) :P
I like to have a bit more thrusters then needed, in case if I destroy some of them.
I like to live on the edge ;)
impressive ship though at the end it looked like you needed 1 more thruster with that much weight
It was a tough balance on this one, I think I could use a couple more lifting thrusters, though as soon as I add those I'm going to need more battery power so that I don't drop when I'm making directional moves. I spent a fair bit of time trying to decide where the balance was going to be best, but I'm not sure if I got it right - I was happy with the styling though :P
do turkeys fly? this one does, and over eats.
It eats so much it flies! I'm sure there's some logic in that somewhere :P
@@Splitsie I see, my question though is that u record, record at that moment the voiv over or do it later rewsyching the video.
As I said, 99% of the audio is recorded at the time with the video
@@Splitsie thanks you very much
Just so you know.
That was close :0
Is weird watching all these old videos lol. Clearly things have changed alot in a single year lol
2 large thrusters in my game holds 150k easy, I get slow around 175kish Maybe it's something else but idk lol
They have increased the power of the thrusters a bit with the survival update but I don't recall exactly how much
If I have a big block and I want it to go small what do I press on my keyboard ⌨️
Or aim at a small grid. Then the grid size changes automatically.
Thanks guys for the help
I love going over the comments to see others helping out, thanks! :)
You find out why obs is displacing your mouse ??
I think it had something to do with the rescaling from 1440 to 1080, but Nvidia fixed the problems I was having with shadowplay so I rarely use OBS anyway :P
Flying Launchbox^^
Filled with a banana split or banoffee pie... now I'm hungry :P
job dann ^^

again me: i built your ship but it seems like the thrusters can't handle even the empty ship, idk what i am doing wrong, constantly 100% battery even though i havent done anything yet =/
just attached a second small reactor to the ship to recharge the batteries, made them charge a bit, tried to life the ship. not working sadly. =/
made the game in creative mode to test, copypasted it, works... strange world we live in, especially since the thrusters worked until i finished the ship
It sounds like one or more of the batteries was drained during construction, the design still works normally (I'm still using it) but there have been a couple of times where the game has bugged out and thrusters haven't generated any force when I've expected them to, especially in multiplayer :(
@@Splitsie yeah now its working again :D idk what was going on. first time on mining - overloaded, had to carry everything out by hand.
@@Splitsie that makes sense now. I also heard the large thrusters are more efficient, but I don't know that for sure.
Space Wolves!!
Ah, just played a game with awful team mates and now: ta dah sanity back!
I know how you feel - Capac's almost always my teammate ;)
(if that didn't make sense take a look at my other series and you'll understand very quickly) :P
Holy desync'd cursor batman
I thought it was me at first lol
Yeah, that was quite the annoying time. Thankfully Nvidia got their act together and fixed shadowplay so I could go back to using it :)
@@Splitsie Shadowplay is brilliant- when it works
So true :P
Oh, you are also using OBS!!
Back then I used a bit of it and a bit of Shadowplay but once OBS got proper Nvenc integration I've switched to just using OBS :)
splitsie! this video is constrained and wont go in HD. if you use sony vegas you need to remove the "mantain aspect ratio". You may want to take this video down and re render it. also theres ugly black bars on the side :(
I'm not sure why it's being limited for you it's working in HD for me, also I use Premiere and rendered it in 1080p in the same way I normally do.
Could you show us a good small ship design
What sort of purpose/function are you looking for in the ship? I've got plans for a few different things, not sure how soon I'll get around to any of them but I've got plans for a more robust tank, a truck for the butterball and some hydrogen powered vessels for fighting and scouting to name a few.
A fighter, a good fighter that can spin all directions without dropping like a rock just falling like a feather. And Maybe a scout ship with cargo
That's a pretty decent challenge, trying to come up with a fighter design that looks decent while having enough thrust to stay aloft no matter the direction and not having said fighter look like a ball... I'll keep the thrust minimums in mind when I eventually get around to designing a fighter :)
Splitsie we could try like make a skyke like model but slightly different and maybe multiple different designs
Splitsie maybe a multipart series of aircraft models
So Splitsie, I noticed something eerie about your voice. You sound EXACTLY like someone on a different channel, he works on a channel called Planet Dolan, his name is Zaraganba. Are you hiding a secret identity from us? lol I'm kidding, but if you take a look at Planet Dolan and try to look for Zaraganba's narrations I think you may find he sounds eerily similar to you.
43:22 daija vu
Thankfully without damaging a connector that time :P
eh, i'm sure it wouldn't have been that big of a problem, after all, it happened 9 months ago.
the paint gun should totally be in vanilla am i right
I completely agree, it would make painting in survival much more realistic and immersive :)
No fat shaming. Butterball is people to. lol
No shaming, after all I'm the feeder that made it that way ;)
I know your not. I enjoy your vids and Im planing to use butterball on a server I'm playing on. good work.
Butterball turkys are a brand name dor them here in the states we cook thwm for variouse holidays
That's what I thought, I'd heard the name in various TV shows over the years so it stuck with me :)
I have now been using this ship for over a year now. I followed this video to make the ship but mine is painted black and red :)
I'm glad you've got so much use out of it :)
Am I obsessive for noticing he missed two blocks(one per side) in the upper dark stripes?
I might be too.. which blocks? I'm going to have to try and have a look when I get home from work in the morning :P
