    I used to like playing a 2-1-3 it made it easier for me to transition into a 4-1-3 at 9v9 and then 4-3-3 at 11v11

    How often do you practice? I feel like I would need 2-3 60 minute practices a week for the whole season before
    a U10 team to gage this...

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah. Typically it’s two-three 90 min sessions a week.

    I am new to coaching youth soccer but played for years. Now having kids I am becoming a coach and want to learn all aspects and the best way to coach them so they can grow each year. I always see coaches working on footwork and techniques but never do I see them working on this formation. So after my many years of playing I am now learning so much for your videos. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. You are amazing. I have a question, I am coaching in a rec league and they play 8v8 for U10 girls so I was wondering how would you format the field for them to transition next year to a 9v9? Do you just put 2 strikers in for a 2-3-2 position format? Any help would be great. Thanks again for your videos. LOVE THEM!!!!!!

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      Yeah you could play 2-3-2. The transition to 9v9 would then be 2-3-2-1 (Aka 4-3-1 which is what I like to play at 9v9). Check out my vid on that. Probably needs a update though.

      @@CoachRorySoccer I just started watching your videos today and I have been watching your videos all day taking notes. I am not used to a 8v8 so I am trying to learning about how to play it since it is not a 7v7 or 9v9. I have learned so much on your videos that this week I will switch to this format. I was using a 3-2-2 but will correct it this week. Thank you again for the response and look forward to watching all the rest of your videos. VERY HELPFUL especially since its 2nd year coaching youth soccer. Thanks for helping us volunteer coaches up to date and knowledgeable to help our kiddos on the field. I just finished your #3 video so I am working down through your videos. LOL. I might get through them all. 😉

    Hey coach Rory, this question has nothing to do with the video but how often do you think kids 12 and up should focus on hitting the gym for a leg and body workout? once a week or two days and for about 1 hour? Thank you!

    coach, quick question, in the 2-3-1, how far back do you have your midfielders defend? Always seems to me that my defenders come back to defend, but lack any forward options if the backs win the ball. Often I find this is because the forward is close to the midfield circle, but my mids have all squished nearly on top of my backs - especially the further back the ball has gone. How do you get them to balance their offensive and defensive responsibilities?

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Midfielders have to get back to the level of the attack up to the point where they shouldn’t be crowding the centerbacks. So pretty far back. I mean midfielders need to cover a lot of space no matter what age your coaching. Some of this depends on what side of the field they are on. The opposite side wing needs to get back and cinch in but it’s not as pressing of an issue than the wing on the side the attack is coming down who needs to be first like if pressure.

  • @ethanmarshall3850
    @ethanmarshall3850 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ 7:50, if 6 loses possession or makes a bad pass (can see this happening w/my girls team) and the red 3 move back toward our goal, this creates a numerical disadvantage. Coach, in what positions of a 2-3-1 formation would you place your less skilled and less aggressive players in a rec league? Assuming that one or two of them are on the field at any given time.

    Hi!! LOVEEEEE your videos! My girls are playing indoor soccer during spring for fun.. I wanted to ask what formation would best support the 2-3-1 for outdoor. We’ve been playing one sweeper 3 midfields and one forward (indoor is 6v6) since our sweeper is very fast and strong, however as we play more competitive teams I’ve been putting 2 back 2 mid and 1 forward. I’m also thinking of doing a 2 back and 3 midfield with center being either forward or defense depending on the other team. Thank you!

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! So, I play 2-3-1 (or 1-2-3-1) outside at 7v7. Are you 7v7? Or 9v9? Or 11v11?

      @@Robloxer5979 Oh i see! I was reading that wrong. Boy that is tough. I can tell you my boys play Futsal in the winter (5v5) and we play 1-2-1-1. I mean for me I would want to really solidify the CB-CB relationship for outdoor. So at 6v6 I'd probably play 1-2-1-2. Give the two forwards the flexibility to go wide or central depending on the situation.
