    Even doe it’s their most successful album, survivor is not their best album it’s more of the singles and a few deep cuts that were good the album as a whole is messy and mixed. I personally consider the writing’s on the wall as their #1 best album followed by destiny’s full-field. The writing’s on the wall is much more cohesive, has better jams like so good, bug a boo, sweet sixteen, say my name, confessions and outro, and is a full classic

      Destiny Fulfilled is their best work to date to me. Every track on there could have been a single, especially Free. You could tell the group had matured to the beautiful grown adult they grew up on. I hate how Michelle William’s is often times not given the credit considering she ate the bridges up on all the tracks and basically held her own. The entire album is a mixture of gospel, R&b, hip hop/rap, and pop. A good way to end the best-selling girl group of all time.

We should also not forget the added pressure/advice/insistence from influential adults at the time. and it makes sense as the 90’s and early 2000’s are cemented into being a girl group period in music. you could say girl groups are still a thing and popular but really no girl groups have scratched the surface since DC ended cause solo artists have been the wave since mid 2000’s. like T-Boz and Chilli from TLC said “the girl groups would come back eventually, that era will come back. like when the rock bands disappeared, the groups came on the scene and now it’s solos”

    LaTavia wasn't just a dancer. She was a singer & rapper starting out. As a 10 yr old, "Survivor" was a stelluh album. At 29, the album to me now is corny and cookie cutter and definitely hit or miss. 8 Days of Christmas was a great album. But their debut, "Destiny's Child" & sophomore album "Writings On The Wall" will always be their strongest albums in MY opinion. Great video btw!! Been a Destiny's Child fan since day 1!!
    Edit: I always wondered what "Survivor" and the rest of the albums would've sounded like if the original DC4 recorded, and stayed. They had the formula down with the original members but dropped the ball because of ego, control, and divide & conquer 🤷🏾‍♂️

    I just recall being 16 years old rushing to Virgin Megastore after school to purchase Survivor on its first day of release May 1, 2001. The title track is still one of my favorite DC singles. I also remember the album booklet was a fold out poster that featured the 3 girls w/ their hands interlocked raised up in the sky wearing the same jungle fur bikinis seen in the Survivor video. I felt very empowered listening to DC3 as a teen. Not to mention you had a BLACK female group dominating the radio and Billboard charts in an era of mostly white teen pop stars (Britney, NSYNC, Christina etc) These girls were able to sell 663,000 copies their debut week on this album... still the highest first week sales by any girl group in music history. #Legendary 👸🏾🙌🏾

  • @nicolesherman8974
    @nicolesherman8974 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Second nature off DC’s first album was such a beautiful song. One of their best deep cuts. DC3 with Michelle Williams was by far the best to me. All members of the group had their shine and could sing solo parts in a song. Even though Latavia and Letoya were good friends of Beyoncé and Kelly, they felt more like backups more than actual group members. Destiny Child’s come up and history is one for the books. From internal conflicts to media scrutiny, they managed to prevail. I thought Survivor took two weeks. I know it was a short period of time, but i did not know it was twelve days. That album did seem rush though. But the old trick in the book is that whenever there is controversy surrounding a group or the members in a group, people want to capitalize off that and catapult their albums in terms of sales and charts.

    I think a lot of you are missing the point of him highlighting this album. The point is it is what shot them to worldwide fame and recognition. Yes it’s not the best album by them but it’s important because their lead singles really catapulted them. For example Baby One More Time is not a good album but it had the lead single Hit Me Baby One More Time which catapulted Britney Spears to superstardom. And their lead singles were very strong lead singles that were very popular. I agree that the Writings on the Wall was their best album but it’s not the album that caused them to go into super stardom. Sometimes that happens, the better albums aren’t always the most popular. Also this album is special in the sense that Beyonce was the main writer and producer for the whole album. She crowrote and produced writings on the wall but it was still Kandi Nad DarkChilds mainly writing.

It’s similar to Katy Perry’s teenage dream in my opinion, like teenage dream as a whole is not a great album and far from Katy’s best but it’s understandable why it made her the pop icon it did especially concerning the singles, the videos and the perfect timing around its release (2010-2012)
