I love this. My husband is a psychologist and he always tells me that it’s insane how a person can look so normal, and even seem like they have a perfect life, and yet behind the scenes there can be so much suffering. He doesn’t share details but he tells me you never would have guessed if you met these patients casually the kind of trauma and pain they’re in. It’s made me more patient with others and appreciate so much when people share their journey. Good luck to you.

    • @carladicarlo3255
      @carladicarlo3255 ปีที่แล้ว +12

We learn to get by. Go to work, get some groceries, etc., but it’s exhausting just doing that and trying to act “normal” through the day. And we don’t want to be a burden or explain how we feel because unless you struggle mentally, you don’t understand. Sometimes it’s counterproductive to hear you just have to get out there, or it’s not so bad, or you can pull yourself up if you want to…over and over. No, we don’t. That’s the problem. Every single person I’ve told about my mental health issues was in disbelief because they thought I was so happy. We do that to move through the world. I really appreciate people like you and your husband who realize that and show compassion. ❤️

i have a good friend who told me therapists are like teachers, or yoga instructors, or bosses. you just click with some of them more than others, and there are also some that you just won't fit with. and that its ok to change therapists. that was a real ah ha moment for me, because i'd always thought of a therapist as a bit of a divine authority who must be infallible. but in the end we're all just human and both personal and professional relationships have to go both directions

Sending you big healing vibes from Toronto, Canada. I'm old enough to be your Mum (even perhaps your Gran!) and I've suffered from anxiety/panic disorder, depression and emetophobia since I was twelve years old. The hardest part for me was my teen years. I hated being away from home in case I got tummy sick so I avoided a lot of social situations. To be honest, my life has gone in waves...some good years, some bad years, a few really horrible years and then just back to what I would call "normal". I'm a Widow now, as well as a Mum and a Granny and still have my bad days. COVID didn't help and now I've got a touch of agoraphobia as well (it's only bad when I'm out shopping or whatever all by myself). Just hang in there. You will get better as time goes on. Keep up with your therapy and don't be worried about talking about this on TH-cam.

Hi George, my name is Jan, I’ve just watched this video with my husband through his own channel……I just wanted to say you’re a lovely, lovely young man. You’re family must be so proud of you…..I’m so sorry for all you’ve been through to this point, but want to say how proud of yourself you should be……..I suffer too on a daily basis, my problems are chronic pain related and I’m pretty much (at 51 years old) housebound because of it. It’s been a part of my life for 29 years now, I actually can’t remember what it feels like to NOT be in pain……..Well done for speaking up and I’m sure you will bring comfort to many knowing they’re not on their own…….I adore cats and I’m really into baking too, we have a lot in common even though age wise we’re many years apart!…..keep doing what you’re doing and we both wish you every single (well deserved) success in life……your cookies look amazing!…..take care…….Jan xx

Jan, I was sorry to read your words about being in so much pain. I have some but not so extreme. I started giving my well loved older dog a supplement because she would often be in pain after being too active. I gave her so many natural supplements and even broke down and gave her pain meds from the vet. So what I give her now is green mussel 750 mg/ day. Hope I'm not jinxing our good luck here! Anyway she runs like a puppy now sometimes, and I haven't seen any evidence of being in pain. Hope that helps you.

Gosh, I want one of those cookies so much! My sympathies, Jan. I developed lupus just after college, went from very active, to now struggling to care for myself and dealing with pain on a daily basis. I’m glad we have ways to communicate with others online so we’re not isolated as much. I tend to be a very upbeat person, but the pain and not able to leave the house whenever I want are definitely wearing on me, as my condition has worsened over the last nine years. I admire your resilience and ability to offer comfort to others after so many years of struggle. I’ve got a great support network and managed to see a lot of people in person this year due to others’ sacrifices to support me in doing so. Sending hugs your way!

I’m sure that these challenges have existed, ever since the human race began but many of us, were raised to believe that, as men, we should simply suck it up and move on, with no discussions of ways to do so. Your openness to discuss your challenges and successes is inspiring and gives hope to others that life is full of possibilities to succeed, no matter what you are dealing with at the time.

Wonderful video. Thank you for taking the time to make it and talk. Really helpful. And the lad knows how to cook! Those cookies look awesome (he says, now on the way to the shop to buy some cookies). Stay well, brother. 💖

You said “weirdo”, and I heard “hero”. Anyone who shares the difficulties of life and normalizes seeking help is a hero. Glad you’re having more good days than you had in the past. Thank you.

Scrolling through the comments I'm sure you can see how helpful this video has been for people! Your sensitive presentation - your quiet voiceover, making cookies and Junior - was just right. Junior must really love you - you could see she wasn't exactly thrilled to have her toenails cut, but she let you do it! Please know there is much support and for you out here.

As a mother of a child with debilitating anxiety, I wish I would have had access to a story like yours several years ago. My child has since, grown up, and has become very functional but at times still struggles. Wish you the best in your journey of learning to manage life. Take care and please keep posting. Your videos just might be the one that is found by those that really need it!

Amen! I will pray for your son. Anxiety is so debilitating, and it just comes without warning. So many of us hide it and we shouldn't do that. We should be helping one another to have hope and teach each other tools that work best. God is truly my Savior. God Bless.

Was just going to say that. I wish we had social media platforms accessible earlier, when my sister and also a friend had eating disorders. It only did more damage with doctors and therapists… To even try to begin to understand, we have to hear it from others going through similar.
Videos like this are extremely helpful not just for those who may also have anxiety, eating issues but also invaluable to those around the person suffering.

@George Dunnett Thank you for sharing. I hope there comes a time when you and other genuine people don’t feel the need to apologize in advance, having to explain that you’re not after sympathy etc stops. Why try to please 1% of often vicious people? It’s impossible.. Their mission is to make others feel horrible, so whatever you tell them, it will never help.
Also, it’s a good way to shake the tree of rotten fruit. Those who you certainly don’t want to have around. If they can’t tolerate a genuine video about someone’s life, they should use like TH-cam for kids only. Live in fairyland, where everything is safe..
Unfortunately life isn’t that easy when growing up! We all have issues.
Anyone taking offense to genuine raw videos of someone’s journey, suffer a lot more than those who dare speaking out. Never take any such comments seriously or onboard. It’s sad that you need to say these things before you start.
It’s often healing to speak out. I think it’s often better to find groups online (kind caring people who truly cares) than going to therapists.. The normal people understand a lot more becasue they’re either in it or have been there. That helped my sister in the end anyway.

Hello George! There are millions, if not billions, of people worldwide who struggle in some way. While speaking about mental health concerns used to be taboo, sharing your struggles is helping others to open up and find common ground. Being vulnerable takes great courage, but yields infinitely larger rewards. You’re subscribers follow you because you’re genuine, down-to-earth, kind, considerate, and have an incredibly soothing speaking voice. Do not be afraid of anyone’s reaction to your news. Those who matter don’t mind and those who minds don’t matter. Live your life authentically and do what brings joy! Take care!

Hey dude! Just wanted to say thank you for sharing and you’re totally not alone. I also struggle with my relationship with food and am underweight as well (we call it a “Hardgainer” here in the states). Most of the discussion surrounding weight is about obesity and in my own personal experience it’s more difficult to open up about being too skinny. So I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your journey with us, as I think it’s important people see both sides of the story when it comes to managing weight and mental health.

I find it ridiculous, and very disheartening that people either have to be nosy or behave so ill mannered and distasteful with no class. I think you’re amazing and the fact that you even have a TH-cam channel and that you can share part of your life is so amazing in itself. People find your videos, very comforting and soothing, and you probably help more people than what you realize in spite of your own issues. Keep doing you because we need you to. And please don’t change a thing

Are you sick? Don't change a thing? Did you read the title- HE IS NOT WELL. People like you enable him. Make him feel like a victim so he self medicates with drugs and sugar. Sick. He must change what he is doing if he wants a shot at a healthy life. Do you just not get it? He is not a victim and neither are you. Stop it. Just stop it now.

@@66fitton Thanks and you to. I did have issues- worse than this chap but I overcame them using nutrition. Issues can feel very real to people but they can usually be overcome naturally. Most docs want and need to keep you unwell so you keep taking their pills. Medication might be appropriate short term for ~5% of people. The rest is being pushed out of pure greed. Labels make someone feel like a victim mentally. I don't want anyone to suffer. Many do unnecessarily. If a plant was dying, you would change it's soil, put it out in a good environment, full of sun and water it. Not pump it fully of sugar and pills. No wonder the dude doesn't feel right. He started off fairly week, then "healthcare" got a hold of him- told him mental stories (labels) that he believed and pumped him up with massive doses of drugs. On top of that he adds massive amounts of sugar. Tragic.
