    "Humankind wore the glasses of worship in the times before the sciences, but they found that it was hard to see. And yet they struggled forth with it, blind to the world. And they were okay with it.
    In more recent years, many have dared to remove these false lenses, and have found that they can see the world, and the universe clearly. They who have risen above the blind masses, while they use logic, and science, to unlock the mysteries of our world and the world beyond. They care not what happens after death, as long as they do their part in the only life they have.
    So long as the Glasses of Religion plague the human species, then we are doomed to fall, as our disagreement, our isolation from each other, and our hateful bickering over what is true and what is false will bring humans to shed each others blood once again, as it has since we first donned the lenses that left us blind."
    -dinoman9877, on Friday, December 27, 2013
    Quote this if you will, perhaps help those who are blinded remove their glasses.

    What at wonderful and well presented explanation of our existence. The key work in this is that we as everything else are EVOLVING. Does this not show the insignificance and irrelevance and just plain wrongness of religion. We have to make this small rock in the middle of all this vastness a better place for all.

    Wonderfully done, but you won't convince religious people, never! I've tried, I've stopped. No point. It's a beautiful presentation talking to our intelligence. Religion is not talking or coming from intelligence, so if you use intelligence to talk to it, you'll fail. You can show this to the pope ten thousand times and fail each time.

    • @thorkelson
      @thorkelson 10 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      The point is not to persuade fundies and christianidiots, but to inspire those who are not and give them passion and strength to grow in numbers, its about changeing apathists to passionate science loving humanists not converting people who think the world is 6000 years old.

      That's completely not true. Many atheists come from religious backgrounds, so you can convince someone, you just have to know how to do that (hint: not by witty comments and funny jokes about how stupid their beliefs are). Religious people aren't more stupid, they just less informed because churches and cults almost always deny information from outside of their circles, by frobidding to talk with people of different beliefs, by telling that everyone is an enemy to them ("There is a war on Christianity!" - does that sound familiar to you?), by lying and misrepresenting information (many christian apologists, especially creationists are guilty of this). They discourage free thinking and playing guilt card to control their "flock".
      Do you really think that if you were born, for example, in Texas, in deeply religious community, you would be able to figure the truth out by yourself without any information from outside? Chances are, you wouldn't.
      This people need help, like addicts need it, and the best help is to rpovide infomation so they could start thinking for themself.

    I wish Carl Sagan was still around so I could talk to him, thank him for helping make science popular, and encouraging our species to keep exploring and asking questions....
    Carl Sagan was a great man and the best teacher ever to walk this Earth,... he was so passionate about the cosmos, and that passion is so easy to recognize in his work...

  • @BunnehSaev

    @David Henry, you mean like the arrogant pride in proclaiming that YOU know that there really is a specific god and that you know what it wants? Learning things and admitting when ideas are wrong and changing them based on evidence (how science works) is not in the same neighborhood of pride as proclaiming to know the answer and refusing to adapt to change (how religion works.)

    • @yhenry77
      @yhenry77 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I said WE including me, but what does being theist, agnostic or atheist have to do with science?

    • @ErgoCogita
      @ErgoCogita 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Henry I'm not going to continue to other comments you've made elsewhere but I DO feel compelled to point something out:
      _"We..We..We..We.. The pride of man has always been his downfall, that's why he needs a God"_
      The notion that Humans are a special creation of a deity is but another form of pride. Indeed, there is no greater conceit.

  • @monkeyglute
    @monkeyglute 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beautiful. I don't understand how theists can accuse the skeptic of dull nihilism after a presentation like this. What they see as a belittling of humanity is in fact a celebration of the glorious grandure of existence and the realization that we are a tiny and fleeting, but precious part of that.

  • @truthtrumpsdumbness638
    @truthtrumpsdumbness638 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wonderful............but, of course, the world is only 6000 years old and humankind are the only concern of a single deity's musings and plans since the infinite beginning of time, in an infinite universe of galaxies - The deity had done nothing else to do, during the millennia of his existence, but to think of how to eventually create us, just those few short years ago ................from mud ............................surely that's right............isn't it?!!!

    [wikipedia says: The universe is commonly defined as the totality of everything that exists, including all matter and energy, the planets, stars, galaxies, and the contents of intergalactic space.] That extends out past the matter spewed by the "big bang". The "big bang" was not a solitary event. That's just the local one and the one that we resulted from. You're also assuming that matter was thrown from the "big bang" in all directions at equal speed. Not necessarily so.

    That piece of machinery was far bigger and heavier then anything we sent to another planet and we used an incredibly sophisticated contraption to land it.
