Hi there, I am part of the official OpenBOR team and I would like to say thanks for helping sharing the engine. I am also a coder of OpenBOR games and I am coding a spiritual sequel of the arcade game "Captain America and Avengers", called "Avengers United Battle Force". Will you make a part 2 of this video? I would love to help you with that with some suggestions and maybe seeing my game on the list :)
I just downloaded it myself...WOW. I've had more fun with that game than I've had with MANY AAA titles. Boy does it bring back memories too of all those He-Man action figures I had. I am IMPRESSED with this one.
Btw, you mentioned some of the greatest, sure, but not all best. You missed: - Outworld Assassins - Night Stalkers X - (the Streets of Rage Project I forgot the name) - Splatterhouse 1, 2 & 3 - Dreams of Rage - Marvel's Infinity War
I have the BORMOTU on PC. Really, really would appreciate how to get this on a Dreamcast selfboot disc! I’ve been hoping for for *years*, and hoping someone could help. I’m not much of a PC gamer (last PC game I beat was “Dark Forces II” on Dos 6 or windows 3
SEGA Lord X, reading that you play video games with your daughter made me smile! On Christmas I played Virtua Fighter 2 against my nephew. He whooped me! Epic Saturn Flashbacks on my bro’s’ 180” home theater projector controller was broken. 😶 Dude, you need to record family moments if you can (for yourself) so you don’t lose them.
Legend of the Double Dragon is outstanding. I think the dev could make his own IP using the fighting system and make some bank, assuming OpenBor allows monetization (Either as standard policy, or part of a special deal with Openbor owners)
@Curtis Lang Recreations of the arcade and NES games are everywhere, most of them mediocre. Legend of Double Dragon is a different beast. It's based off the SNES Super Double Dragon, which is quite different from standard double dragon games in terms of gameplay and sprites. And this remake isn't a 1:1 conversion, but merely uses the look and feel of that old game as a base to create something entirely unique. For example, the way it blends the fighting systems from across the entire franchise into one elegant system that lets you switch styles on the fly. It's a very deep system that you can ignore entirely if all you want to do is punch, kick, jump kick, and grab/throw your way through levels. But the ability to master 100 hit combos, Ultras, and more is there for those who want to invest the time. An ambitious fan game, to say the least.
For a follow up to this video I recomend to check out Final Fight LNS Ultimate and Streets of Rage 2X. In their current states, these are two of the finest and fun OpenBOR games that are available right now. :D
Definitely check out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rescuepalooza, Justice League United, and Marvel Infinity War they are some of the best out there right now next to Legend of the Double Dragon.
Awesome list and finally someone show cases Legend of the Double Dragon! I don't know if you have seen the guy's video on how to do all the awesome moves yet with style switching because not showing those off totally under sells that game! Thank you for showing good footage of the He-Man one I have been on the fence even trying that one, but I'm definitely gonna check that out. I'll have to check out the D&D and Golden Axe I haven't heard of those 2 yet I have Golden Axe Legend which is pretty sweet. Definitely check out Marvel Infinity War it is I think the sequel to First Alliance and also has a polished version of First Alliance included. Also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rescuepalooza and the just recently updated Justice League United by the same guy that did First Alliance and Marvel Infinity War. Sorry for the rambling openbor gets me excited haha. My latest video has my top 5 openbor games and I demonstrate most of what I just rambled about. Looks like I'll be watching all your videos for the rest of my day haha.
Damn that He - Man Masters of the Universe game, i need to catch up with it. The only Masters of the Universe game i´ve ever played was on the Commodore C64. I know i repeat myself sometimes but keep the good work up.
I played D&D: Shadow Over Karameikos on a Chinese game tablet running OpenBOR on Android some years ago, and then forgot about the platform. Looks like it came a long way since, I'll have to check it out, these games look amazing.
I remember the novelty of some of these openBOR mods when I was exploring / learning about Dreamcast homebrew - but the novelty of the often amazing looking ripped sprites and music wore off when the simplicity of the game engine itself became apparent - hardly any of them stand out in the gameplay department. Maybe you had to be there back in the day because clearly for a while there a lot of people put a lot of time into making the brawlers of their dreams..but ultimately I find various SOR2 and SOR3 mods on the Genesis way more gratifying to play with mechanics and movesets on another level to what is seemingly possible using openBOR.
I know exactly how you feel, which is why I'm so impressed with Legend of the Double Dragon. You should check out some TH-cam videos on it, the fighting system is VERY deep. We're talking 100 hit combo, multiple styles, years to master with no two games being alike deep.
That He-Man game looks brilliant ! You should do a current summary of all the truly great looking and great animating BoR games available on Dreamcast (or Saturn if that’s a thing) !
I have updated Openbor for dreamcast so now it can render 16 and 32 bit modes www.dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11829&hilit=openbor Load larger games I'm still developing it
I would love to develop OpenBOR games. There are SOO many opportunities to make amazing beat em ups. I am actually surprised nobody has done a Star Wars beat em up, new TMNT, or continued that Resident Evil BOR game that had a ton of potential.
Fookin love openbor i love it my best game on openbor is Street fighter Taiwan you can play as any street fighter and do all there special moves with a press of a button no press left down and a it's just press a for a hadoken or dragon punch by pressing a awesome openbor game and its Street fighter as a 2d side scrolling brawler update i now have Street fighter Taiwan and 478 other openbor games thanks to you tube i was able to download from here you tube
Dude I lost my shit when I got to that level and heard the music I was like wait a minute...............oh my god yes! The final stage has music from Bloodsport it gets you so pumped for the final boss haha. I wish he would of shown off the style switch moves and Killer Instinct combos you can do there are moves from movies and other fighting games its great. Easily the best openbor game out there until the same guy finishes his next one Ultimate Double Dragon which he has a demo out for. So good!
You should check out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rescue Palooza. It's available on Gamejolt. It's made by the same guy that did the Power Rangers one.
i really liked your observation about D&D The Rise of Warduke regarding the possible future of the Beat em' up genre... 3 years later i wonder if some progress was made at that level, are there beat'em up games with rpg elements+ open world map+expanding mission system?
there is a double dragon game called double dragon: reloaded that you and everyone must play!! it is based on dd 1 and 2 and you can also play with and against some of the wrestlers from wwf superstars. the love that went into that game is pretty much near the level of of attention found in streets of rage remix. you will not be disappointed !
Cyclops Productions Every time I’ve seen it, it’s OpenBR.exe, so I assume the needed emu for He-Man is already included. I would love a Dreamcast self-boot of the He-Man game!
I thought the side scrolling beat em up genre would go in the guardian heroes direction when I played it. Instead of jump, punch, kick and that’s it, having tons of specials, combos and juggling added. Actual depth. But that never really happened and even modern throwbacks stick to the basic attacks.
Please can someone tell me how to find the offset, hitbox/graphics and attack co-ordinates for openbor sprites from mugen. I have tried using GIMP but can't understand it. Regards, Gary.
I want a high speed platforming beat 'em up. I have a rpject I've been working on that is something like that except it's more like Marvel Vs. Capcom instead of SoR.
The problem i have with all these games is that all feels the same. Same mechanics, same movement, most of those games are clunky and have the same bugs. Yes, some are better than others but basically are all the same.
Great video can all these games work on dreamcast to because i added openbor games on my dreamcast i dont have these games like he-man and power rangers

Hi all! Is there any way to get the amazing BOR MOTU game either put on a self-🥾 Dreamcast Disc? I have BOR projects that work Jiminy Swift on Dreamcast (Aliens/ Predator is sweet). I just haven’t found a way to I have it on my pc, but not sure how to get the MOU side-scrolling beat’em up on to a disc that can hopefully run on my ‘99 #DreamCast. I have it on my PC, but just got a new TV, itching to play that game. Any help and I’d sing your praises!
Good to see Masters of The Universe featured as I was planning to stream it myself to help bring attention to the like 10 people who show up :) Weird to hear about copyrighted classical music? I thought that stuff was all in the public domain.
There’s even an Ed Edd n Eddy one! Have you checked that one out? I’d like to see a SpongeBob or Hey Arnold one or even an unconventional anime cartoon crossover for that matter. By any chance, have you checked out MUGEN? It’s fun to mess with and there’s plenty of characters from several works in it and specified games made using that engine. How about RPG Maker? You should check that one out too and maybe do a recommended MUGEN or RPG Maker projects you must play/check out.
I just clicked the video but i am on a hurry but i you forgot to mention the FANTASTIC FINAL FIGHT LNS 3 ver 3.0.1 a COMBO HEAVY & COMBO CRAZY game Pd i will watch your video later today but THANKS👍👍 for uploading i enjoy your channel a lot😇👍
I would also not even include Golden Axe Genesis, instead having Golden Ace Legend. It plays better and has an original level set. I would have also gone for Marvel Infinity War, the newest version of First Alliance. It has so many more characters and moves, plus additional stories.

Im sure he will he has some fantastic work in the openbor community and he's also a cool dude :D
I need to play that HE-MAN game!
I played it around this time last year. It's Sweeeeeet, but hard. My advice, go with Skelletor. He's the best.
I just downloaded it myself...WOW. I've had more fun with that game than I've had with MANY AAA titles. Boy does it bring back memories too of all those He-Man action figures I had. I am IMPRESSED with this one.

I had to pause the text to watch this “X-Men”... so smooth, early 90’s outfits, and multi player thrashing looks good!
Final Fight LNS and TMNT Rescue Palooza comes to mind as well
Well that Masters of the Universe game looks spectacular.
Legend of the Double Dragon is outstanding.

I've sent him an email with many OpenBOR games and I've suggested your game as well :)
Are Sabretooth or Omega Red playable?

That "Masters of the universe" beat em up looks great! It's like playing an episode of the Filmation cartoon from the 80's.
@Lucas de Abreu Yeah. I like that look for some reason.
That He-Man game looks legit! I love the Open BOR games, I got a bunch of these games on my modded Playstation Vita!
I highly suggest you look at double dragon reloaded. One of the best and most faithful to the arcade double dragon games ever made.
tmnt rescue plaooza, and He=Man are my favs
I didn't even know this existed, definitely checking this out now, thanks again for the obscure content!
Definitely check out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rescuepalooza, Justice League United, and Marvel Infinity War they are some of the best out there right now next to Legend of the Double Dragon.
That He-Man game looks AMAZING, wow. It looks better than most modern indie titles.
I wonder if it could run on the Vita. It would be amazing.

I’m glad You did this I’ve been working with these types of things more these days
Would love to see you do an update for this in 2021 or 2022. Great video. Thanks!
I have OpenBOR set up on a Raspberry Pi 400 with dozens of games. It's crazy how many of these things there are out there.
Final Fight LNS Ultimate is my favorite. I play on my phone constantly playing final fight with Street Fighter characters is amazing
I think the best D&D openBOR game is Knights & Dragons: The Endless Quest
I'm playing the Double Dragon openbor game today it is fantastic. I liked it so much I donated to them

Sega Lord X sounds so different 5 years ago. I guess he hadn't found his "radio voice" back then :)
the He'Man game is one of the best beat em ups ever. absolutely awesome
That “Big Trouble in Little China” music though!
Greg Coleman now there’s a beat em up that needs to happen

Ultimate Double Dragon will definitely take the top spot, cause the demo is out now and I'm playing the game everyday. 👍

Worth it just for the HE-MAN/SHE-RA game alone, I teared up a bit seeing that.

I got so excited when I got to that part of the game. The final stage is all Bloodsport music its so great
Great new episode ! A lot of these games look to be like Saturn games that never were!
How do I play he man what emulator?
do you know if any of these games have a jumping power bomb like mike haggars on final fight?

Night Slashers X was nice, also some Splatterhouse BOR games! Ah...and Turtles Retropalooza or however it's called.

TMNT: Rescuepalooza should be on here it is 4 player and has 60+ unlockable characters.
I was shocked it wasn't its been the most advertised openbor game I've ever seen.
