About me: I decided to jump on an opportunity to buy a school bus for $1000. After 2.5 years of building and a couple summers doing bus life, I sold the bus and began building a tiny house boat from scratch. My hope is that with a couple years of practice building under my belt, I can do a bit better of a job this time and build something that actually floats 🤞

@@EmmaBuildsBirbie I like hearing your thought process too, Emma, because it affirms that I'm not the only one who thinks that way! I can't count how many times I've bailed on my original plans because there were just too many people at the place I hoped to visit. We get spoiled living in the Rockies where we have so much majesty to ourselves.
I'm planning a trip to a magnificent canyon in Colorado in August, planning to spend a few days meditating in a shallow cave there. I doubt I'll hear another human voice the whole time, even over the weekend. Perfect!

I have been years in Northern California and actually would say that the Bay Area includes everything south of Auburn, including Sacramento and Tahoe, and at the coast includes the Russian River area as well. Clear Lake counts as Northern California but it’s borderline wine country. Still there are HUGE areas north of there, tons of forests and little towns and lakes. Two counties are still called “frontier” counties, by the census designation or something, north of Nevada County maybe. Some great lonesome forests can be found near Iowa Hill, Sugar Pine Reservoir. This is on the eastern side of the American River Canyon from Colfax and very few people are out there. Go to Sugar Pine Lodge and say I sent you, I stayed there a couple months in an RV. You can have some real wilderness experiences out there. Got yer owls and bears.

Get to the coast for some relief from the heat. Best time to go to Tahoe is before summer, May even early June is do-able. Basically before the official summer kick off and kids are out for summer. I was there late May and early June and it wasn't bad at all with the crowds. When coming to CA best to use the weekend to transit around and the work week to do stuff. Lived here all my life and rarely do stuff on the weekend, most everything I do is during the week.

I think most of the US in the summer months are busy, as it is 'vacation time" for many. I bet fall would be beautiful there, but it could also be busy for that season as well. You'll just have to decide what it is you are looking for, and do some research. And definitely get out on the bike more... go online and research where you are headed and map out trails from that... you'll have fun, if you plan a head a few days and know what is coming up next.

Emma, your reaction to the foxes warmed my heart, and brought back memories of camping in Wyoming once, when my wife quietly woke me because she didn't want me to miss the pack of wolves that was passing through our camp in early morning. They were as close as the foxes were in your camp!
We have it good this summer, right here at home: we have two dens with baby foxes within sight of our house. One of them is conveniently located within view of my favorite chair on the deck! I've been taking my video camera out to film them too. The foxes aren't bothered at all by my camera and tripod, and I've got some wonderful footage!

Oddly, the owners manuals, drivers license manuals nor most mechanics share this. Repeat periodically.....every three weeks is perfect. 😊

Stayed in the Carson City area for a week and I can still smell the dirt from the desert lol. Although it was my first time dispersed camping, I don't miss Nevada at all esp. in the summer. The strong winds making dirt go everywhere is just ugh as well as high temps. I'd be down to go back for the winter maybe--Pahrump in particular since BLM lands are just outside of town. California on the other hand was absolutely gorgeous around Lake Tahoe. I would've stayed in the Sierra Nevada area if gas wasn't so expensive in Cali.

Going back, I would recommend several highways that are south of Tahoe what are breathtaking in their own ways. Hwy 88 isn't too bad; Hwy 50 is actually quite nice. Hwy 4 through Ebbett's Pass will help you to exercize your sphincter muscles do to it being rather NARROW in spots, but is beautiful. Hwy's 108 and 120 will asstound you with their beauty, although 120 can be a little crowded in the summer. Hope you have the time to take any one of these. My fave is 108 and Sonora Pass.....

It's always likely - especially in the summer in California - to have crowds and fees to pay at every popular spot. There are beautiful places there, but with the traffic and crowds and expense, I'm glad to have moved up the coast to a small city in Northwest Washington (where it has been sunny and in the 70s for most of the last few weeks). BTW, I, too, was surprised to find the beautiful Ruby Mountains outside of Elko, years ago.

The "shoulder seasons" in Tahoe (spring and fall) are MUCH more chill, especially on the weekdays. Also if you're willing to do a little hiking/backpacking it's pretty easy to get away from the hoards. I also hate being there when it's swarmed with people. Glad you got to take a dip at least! I live in California for the weather, food, and nature... certainly wouldn't mind if there were fewer humans. BTW it pretty much only stays cool on the coast and at very high elevations.

In my experience definitely March-June or September-October is when the weather is nice enough already but no crowds anywhere. I dislike crowds as much as the next person but I try to shut it out or put up with it if the place is worth it lol. But I try to stay away from peak times that’s for sure. Or if it’s peak season for anything then go to the lesser known emptier corners.
Also I almost feel like the no name crowd free lakes you went to in some of your previous videos were low-key better than this…am I crazy? 😄
