BOEING F18F US NAVY SUPER HORNET DEMONSTRATION - FARNBOROUGH AIRSHOW (airshowvision)

  • Airshowvision present one of the Worlds' most awesome and versatile warplanes - the US Navy F18 Super Hornet.
    In this video the aircraft is carrying 6 air to air missiles on it's underwing racks, as well as the usual sidewinder missiles on the end of each wing, giving the aircraft a high all up weight. Despite this disadvantage, the Hornet still delivers a high G display.
    Included in the demo is the spectacular push-pull manouvers, the slow pass, a square loop, and a tough landing.

    Aerobatics with ordinance on the wings. A truly great designs stretched to the maximum of its potential with the E/F models. What’s even more amazing is that the C&D model can still hold its own 25 years later

    I'm a Tomcat fan, however, after watching enough vids and see how the Super Hornet maneuvers w/o TVC, is amazing. From what I've read it's due to receive AESA, CFT's and possibly the GE F414 EP engines w/22% more thrust. This will make the aircraft more lethal,which I hope will happen soon for our Navy's sake. I've seen vids on the Su-33/35/37 w/TVC fly but that's clean w/o weapons. Who needs the F-35?

      And As An Example, Finland has 62 of them (had 64 of them, but 2 was destroyed in the Accidents, maybe both as pilot error / errors, but those would be the only errors, but I check what were the causes, probably not technical problems!?!?) = F/A 18 C/F (Legacy) Hornets! But also (Finland) the same what Red Arrows fly with! And I'm from Finland! A Young Adult Finnish Man! With Love (Of Our Almighty God) from Finland! : )

      I've seen 'em do even shorter with two drop tanks and fully loaded out as a bomb truck. But then again, steam catapults take a lot of credit in that case. Yet the performance shows 8AA missiles isn't near the heaviest these planes can fly.

    i have seen many f/a-18 tac demo teams. this has be one of the best I have ever seen. Also it i rare to see it armed with aim-120s and aim-9s for a airshow because its makes the flight profile a bit harder to fly. Also the f/a-18 seems like it has thrust vectoring in this video because the aircraft has the ablitly to point the nose any where the pilot wants and the planes just follows. Combine this with the low stall speed and advance avionics this plane can blow almost anything out of the sky.

    As I say, it depends on the sortie, my numbers are likely for an interceptor configuration, whereas yours may be for a deep strike, with Paveways and drop tanks; I know that when you get either of these aircraft carrying their maximum payload, you will get this number well under one. Mine works out at the plane weighing just over 33,000lbs though, so perhaps it was a little optimistic I grant you

    It's complex fly by wire system gives it a superior ability to maintain as much control even when conditions are highly unstable, or the aircraft is at the point of departing (stalls).

  • @TopGun8993
    @TopGun8993 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see what your saying, but its more complicated than that. The "USMC carriers" are called Amphibious assault ships. They are primarily used in support of Amphibious landings. They carry helo's, AV-8B Harriers, and amphibious landing craft. Although they could potentially carry the F-35, they currently don't. An Aircraft Carrier and an Amphibious assault ship have two different roles in the Navy's mission.

  • @foxvw
    @foxvw 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @akngac5 right but the negative G force at my reference are much more difficult to handle than positive Gs and could make a pilot pass out or rupture blood vessels in teh brain even under 7 gs.

  • @rumbler100
    @rumbler100 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing people seem to overlook is the fact that close combat air to air dogfighting almost becomes negated by off boresight missiles like the AIM-9X sidewinder. All an F-18 pilot has to do is look in the direction of the opposing plane and fire. The missile is going to hunt down the aggressor and if its at a close range its basically a kill shot that the other guy can't escape from. Maneuvering and all that stuff is going to become obsolete with these kinds of missiles out there.

    According to F-35 pilots, the F-35 has maneuverability very similar to the F-18! That's an impressive feat considering the fact that the F-35A's empty weight is the same as the F-15E. It's a big plane relatively speaking. It would seem you are correct on this one! Cant wait for that first airshow! Unfortunately we'll have to wait another 5 (or 6) years for that to happen.

    • @rickykurniawann
      @rickykurniawann 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the F-18 instead, have heavier empty weight to the F-15E.

  • @MrGeforcerFX
    @MrGeforcerFX 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    putting weapons and pylons on the aircraft creates drag, idk how it couldn't. I love the Hornet families low and slow and AOA abilites but it really only give them a first shot ability and last ditch effort, there speed recovery needs work, hopefully the navy likes the EPE engine and CFT's this summer during testing and decided to add them to the fleet, that extra 9,000lbs of thrust would make the super even more deadly in all aspects of air combat.

  • @MrGeforcerFX
    @MrGeforcerFX 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the full performance (that you see in the states) has a 9g to negative 3g gap, so they push the aircraft to its limits, dunno about this performance this wasn't the same style we get in the states and it was loaded with dummy weapons adding drag and weight to the aircraft for performance.

  • @akngac5
    @akngac5 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Superhornet has a G limiter of 7 Gs, however, for emergencies, this limiter can be disabled. This pilot pulled no more than 7 though. I've worked on Supers and legacy hornets for eighteen years now.

    Dayum... I didn't realize the F-18 could do all that stuff.. No doubt is the all-time greatest fighter a/c of all time and has probably logged more hours than any other although F-14 and F-16 has seen much service as well.

  • @elitexpression1

    • @rickykurniawann
      @rickykurniawann 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      in other aspect, yes it's an improvement, but in agility i think the old hornet still does better. this plane is bigger, heavier and have silly canted pylons which is reducing its agilty significantly.

  • @airshowvision

    Maybe thay deemed thrust vectoring not necessary?

  • @radarvc35
    @radarvc35 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @aagjew I think the maneauvers flown in this video debunk your notion that it is not a good air to air fighter. It was carrying a large weapons load during this performance and still did some increditable stuff. Oh and dont forget U.S. pilots are not allowed to go all out at airshows like some others are! You were probably only seeing about 1/3 of what it can actually do.

  • @Mako2-1
    @Mako2-1 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @templarknight618 it doesn't have thrust vectoring however it has such large flight surfaces that it can pull ridiculous maneuvers

  • @k2477456
    @k2477456 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No fighter aircraft in any countries declassified arsenal has a t/w over 1.26 (F-22 Raptor) tho with the use of thrust vectoring a long fall tail slide is achievable. Any fighter (including the F/A-18) can do a short slide which is what i thought you originally meant.

  • @Eibli
    @Eibli 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can it do a full cobra maneuver?

  • @Steven340able
    @Steven340able 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adding weapons creates drag when hitting supersonic speeds. I'd love seeing the EPE Engines on the Super Hornet. It gives a T/W ratio up to 1:1 of thrust. It will be more maneuverable and be more deadly in WVR air to air combat which its still deadly. I really don't like the CFT. It does increase range dramatically but i just don't like it IMHO. But anyway i do like the IRST pod feature. you can track air or ground targets at long ranges.

  • @brettt777
    @brettt777 12 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @akngac5
    @akngac5 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @radarvc35
    You are spot on with your statement. The rules applied to U.S. demo pilots completely trivializes our aircrafts true capabilities, not to mention many forget to couple the manueverability with the AESA radar, the joint helmet system, and advanced weapons delivery systems onboard.our fighters.

  • @bujoun76
    @bujoun76 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You and I are reading different numbers. According to my info the "loaded" weight of the Typhoon is 35,000lbs. The 2 engines produce 40,000lbs of thrust combined so that adds up to a T/W ratio of 1.14:1. As for the Raptor it's full capabilities and max engine performance is still classified so we'll have to wait on that.

  • @Treetop64
    @Treetop64 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please, explain to us how weight "creates" maneuverability...
    ...and how adding external stores doesn't create drag.
