Seems like an issue that hopefully will be fixed soon. I'm seeing new comments come in but still having to approve all of them. So if your comment does not show up immediately, that's why. EDIT - seems to be fixed!
That's probably because of the Spambot outbreak that has been happening around TH-cam lately. Also, thanks for taking my suggestion. I do want to point out that if you were to actually install the Chinese language pack on Windows Vista that you would get a new Text to Speech Voice called Microsoft Lili, which is a Chinese voice but can also speak English, but the user could still choose Anna as the default voice (which is also the case in Windows 7). Also, I had this problem with the stuttering sound that you had in this video (which used to be a problem in Windows XP virtual machines on Windows 8/10 hosts in older versions of VMWare) which could be fixed by launching Windows Media Player, switching it to Now Playing view and minimizing it. However, unlike XP virtual machines, this workaround doesn't seem to work for Vista virtual machines. Some sort of glitch with either VMWare or Windows from what I can see, as I never had this problem on Windows 7 when I had it as my host operating system.
onometre I agree. Why won’t Microsoft make Windows a bit more skeuomorphic? It would look plain if they didn’t make it skeuomorphic! Also syncing. Microsoft, we don’t HAVE to sync our stuff using OneDrive. Windows 10 May 2019 update made it a lot worse and took their Microsoft account branding to the next level... or did they? I don’t know but still!
Another option would be to try the old dreamscene activators originally made for Windows 7. They used to also work on Windows 8 I think so maybe it does work on 10. Don't forget to make a restore point.
@@desmid Wallpaper Engine is the biggest scam I've ever seen. There's free software out there. Charging for something that sets borderless video backgrounds is ridiculous.
Windows Vista was a rock-solid operating system, but most PC's didn't have good hardware, so the Vista Experience was brutally slow. Windows Vista Ultimate Extras was a nice feature to have because you got lots of things with it. Kind of like a Plus Pack. I wonder why there are no Windows 7 Ultimate Extras.
They didn't have an Ultimate Extras program for Windows 7 because of the poor reception they received originally for Vista Ultimate Extras. They had a hard time releasing updates and features for the Ultimate Extras program on Vista, so users weren't happy and public reception of the program was poor. As a result, they didn't have Windows 7 Ultimate Extras.
The worst part was that when you upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate, all the Ultimate Extras would be removed, so that made Windows 7 Ultimate a waste of money.
I wish the Fluent theme was applied to all applications, even apps like Notepad and Windows Explorer and what not, it would look so much better just like Aero did on Vista and 7 with their consistency.
Great video! A couple of additional things :) 1) Microsoft handed off the whole Dreamscene thing to Stardock, who makes a version for Windows 7/10. There were unofficial ways to use Dreamscene in Windows 7 as well. 2) Windows Vista came in a ridiculous amount of editions - Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise and Ultimate. Beyond the "Ultimate Extras", the Ultimate edition was also an option for a business that wanted "Enterprise" features without having a full Enterprise agreement with Microsoft, such as the language packs, domain join functionality and so on. Also unlike Windows 7 Pro which included everything from Home edition, the Vista Business edition did not include all the entertainment features of Home Premium (like Media Center IIRC), but Ultimate did, so Ultimate was really Home Premium + Enterprise together. A video tip would be to do a comparison of the Vista and Windows 7 editions features. :) You can pick your desired edition by NOT entering a product key during setup. You will get a trial period of 3 days or something before it gets upset about activation.
If you can say nothing else about Vista, its UI is beautiful!

I really miss the Aero theme. Windows 10 just doesn't give us the customization windows 7 or vista or even xp did. Its about forcing a brand on the user, not about letting the user do what they want. I fear Microsoft will make windows 10 into a service that is paid for every month, when that happens I will unplug my ssd and get a new one and install linux. I just cant get over all the crap that is in windows 10, and how hard it is to deal with. Just to name a few things that really get my goat. Cortana, the start menu, the advertising in the start menu, forcing the Microsoft store on us, forcing a Microsoft account on us, the lack of customization, the windows logo in general, the taskbar, the search bar, file explorer. Just to name a few major ones. Why couldn't MS just leave windows 7 alone? It was our only safe haven from the "new" crap that is beyond ugly. Its not like it would be really hard for Microsoft to just put a Windows 7 shell over the windows core OS. Just to make migrating easier. What about windows games? What happened to those?
21:48 You still can save your Bitlocker Drive encryption tool using the cloudless option which creates a txt file with the password that you can put on a usb drive or sd card. It doesn't totally disappear but it seems to make it way less periodic. I had installed vista on vmware last week and had the same problem.
Microsoft really did something that made my life much less complicated than it had to be in 2007. I really took the ad-joke "Don't ask what Vista can do for you, ask what you can do for Vista" to heart and I said enough to Windows and hardware assessment and all the crap MS came up with and finally found it in me to move on and take that Ubuntu Live CD from 2007 more seriously and proceeded to actually install it onto my computer and use the OS on my daily driver laptop, struggling with APT commands, how stuff gets installed, updated, dealing with dependencies, running Office apps on Linux, etc and I made it. Man, what a decision I made back then, and I'm very proud of it.
I loved Vista Ultimate. My next leap was over to MacOS which I definitely love over modern windows. But for whatever reason, I like Vista better than 7/10/11, but not as much as XP, which to me was the pinnacle
Here is a comparison of prices at time: Plus for WIndows 95: $49.99, for 98: $44.95, for XP: $39.95. So the price increase from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate of $160 is quite a bit higher. But even if you just consider the price difference between Vista Business and Vista Ultimate, that still is $100 more for Ultimate. Quite a big price jump on an OS people did not even like.
Also, they should've kept the Ultimate Extras pack for Windows 7. Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate practically have no differences between them with that gone. Plus, it would have given Microsoft the opportunity to plan for more extras.

Hi Michael, great video there! Btw, I assume you are using vmware for this Windows Vista build (looking at the vmware tools icon on the system tray). I see that the Aero performance is really smooth and great. The thing is, I've never been able to achieve this kind of smoothness even though I'm already using a Xeon workstation from 2015 and R7 370 AMD card. Even animations on Windows XP seem jittery. What should I do with it? Are there any configurations that I might have missed? Thank you!
I actually have this installed on my older gaming desktop PC with the Intel core 2 quad Q9550 with 4 gb ram and gtx 570 gpu. I have that installed on a hard drive while I have Windows 10 installed on the ssd in the same PC. Me, I like the elegant look of Windows Vista and 7.
17:53 You could have it apply across the entire system, but by default, it only applies per user. 2:18 For me, I just wanted to get rid of the annoying Acer bloatware (including that "e" bar that would never go away and interfered with Windows built-in functionality), and I learnt that I could install a retail copy using an OEM licence (basically the Windows 10 "fresh start" feature), but the COA on the bottom was unreadable (common problem with Windows Vista/7/late XP COAs), then some early TH-cam tutorial (using HyperCam, Notepad, etc) encouraged me to just pirate Windows Vista Ultimate and use that. I wish I had known about that to pirate Office 2002 on my NEC laptop before that, as it had Word 2002 but not the full suite that my school had on their PCs (I later got myself a copy, but by then, Windows XP was no longer current), as well as getting Microsoft Plus as I believe the Microsoft Plus packs weren't available to buy in Singapore back in the day. 3:37 I can tell that the update mechanism had already been updated to the one included with Windows 7.
This has to be the most BEAUTIFUL looking OS design ever! The overall design, the icons, the color palette, the textures, the wallpapers, the Ultimate Extras (Windows Dreamscente, etc) EVERYTHING was gorgeous! I remember it was a huge leap from the old reliable XP and many people were not ready for it, but in my personal opinion, this was absolutely nice and beautiful. I was pleased to use it back in 2007, it felt so smooth, clean and perfect. Microsoft should seriously consider bringing it back!
Recently Windows 10 Education edition has become an evolved version of Pro. You should definitely put it on a Surface device too, it unlocks much needed features.
Vista is still one OS I'd still be happy to use as a daily driver OS, even over Win7. It's too bad people complaining endlessly killed the Ultimate Extras idea in the end.
Microsoft is responsible for both the dearth and the death of Windows Ultimate Extras; its demise did not really have a thing to do with users complaining.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm still bummed that I could've gotten a full retail copy of Ultimate for 20 dollars but I was a bit too late. I really like the Visa packaging (the plastic case).
I got a free registered copy of Vista from Microsoft in 2007. I chose Ultimate, and the lack of power toys was disappointing, but sense it was free didn't care that much. I was also one of the few people who didn't really have trouble with Vista, a few small things here and there, thatwere easily fixed.
It would have been amazing and wondrous if Microsoft had offered post-reset Windows Vista Beta features as Ultimate Extras: Castle, Metadata Painting, Static Lists, and more...
Michael I saw that you were using Windows Vista SP 2 Build 6002... But the latest was 6003. I hope you could obtain that Build because I was trying to get that release as the final update for Windows Vista.
Microsoft shutted the Windows 2000, XP and Vista Update server back in August 2020, but at the time before its shutdown you need to install these updates, which is no longer working.

3:37 I can tell that the update mechanism had already been updated to the one included with Windows 7.
I did not know this existed, how cool! Great video, thanks!
They should add dream scene to windows 10 but allow you to set animated GIF files so it doesn't eat the CPU
I wish these futures were available nowadays!
Watching this on a former Vista machine.
Video suggestion: ever heard of the Media Center Remote?
Microsoft shouldn't have even allowed anything above Home Premium to run on anything without Aero support.
Vista was just ahead of its time.
Great video michael mjd keep it up man! Liked the vid too
Awesome video, Michael!
Even pressing the bell to get post notifications I still didn't get a notification about this video
Recently Windows 10 Education edition has become an evolved version of Pro. You should definitely put it on a Surface device too, it unlocks much needed features.
Hell yeah! I had this. I did the video for the background but it overheated my gpu so I had to turn it off
I was so mesmerized by the Pacman footage.
windows vista supports directx 11 software and computer games made for unix
Please make videos on Windows 8R, Windows 2007, Windows 2010, and Windows 2000 Personal. All are some mods I recommend.
Windows Vista is a nostalgic operating system to me, same with 7 🥰
Vista is still one OS I'd still be happy to use as a daily driver OS, even over Win7. It's too bad people complaining endlessly killed the Ultimate Extras idea in the end.
Microsoft is responsible for both the dearth and the death of Windows Ultimate Extras; its demise did not really have a thing to do with users complaining.
where can i get this actually?-
Thanks for sharing this. I'm still bummed that I could've gotten a full retail copy of Ultimate for 20 dollars but I was a bit too late. I really like the Visa packaging (the plastic case).
I really want Windows Vista in Romania! BUT I AM FORCED TO USE THIS INFERIOR WINFUCK 10!!!!
Hey I need help
How was he still getting updates?
I bought Vista ultimate back in the day. I look back now and hang my head in shame. I could have had it for so much cheaper...
And I used those extras on XP and Seven. Love the sound packs, games and other stuff
Where can I download the windows ultimate wallpapers? I want to archive them.
Nice video, keep up the good work!
It's no wonder Windows Ultimate Extras/Microsoft Plus customers are upset about content like this.
There was more for stuff movie maker on vista? I would a love a video for that or even a video on movie maker in general! : 3
Coming up next on Windows extras, I would love to see a video about Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7!
It would have been amazing and wondrous if Microsoft had offered post-reset Windows Vista Beta features as Ultimate Extras: Castle, Metadata Painting, Static Lists, and more...
i like the 1 rainy wallpaper with the night lights..
Hello Michael!
what about messenger plus ? will it work today?
Whats was powerful computer for 2007-2008?
19:32 That has to be the shortest license agreement ever!
It doesn't let me update, or get the Extras.
I've always wanted to know what these extras were.
Vista was amazing.... Bring it back 💯
Can you try live essentials?
I LOVE Windows Live Essentials 2011.
Bit locker was there in Vista Enterprise
I haven't heard of or used Dreamscene in a loooong time.
Michael I saw that you were using Windows Vista SP 2 Build 6002... But the latest was 6003. I hope you could obtain that Build because I was trying to get that release as the final update for Windows Vista.
I have Vista Ultimate SP2 in a virtual machine, but it doesn't update and I can't download the Ultimate Extras, how I could dowload them?
Microsoft shutted the Windows 2000, XP and Vista Update server back in August 2020, but at the time before its shutdown you need to install these updates, which is no longer working.
I fortunately got updates manually in June and I could install those extras.
use legacy update
