Welp, that's one way to kick off 2024. Palworld is a genuinely fun game from what I've played and its insane sales and concurrent players performance does on some level highlight Nintendo and Game Freak's need to modernize and evolve the Pokemon formula. As for the plagiarism allegations, we'll see if they hold up. Some of the 3D models matching up so well with the polygons of the Pokemon models is the most damning thing right now that may give Nintendo a case if they decide to pursue this. welp what to do especially the pokemon fanbased who are copium and seething already. get a life and move on. what a bunch of losers. this game still lit.
My main issue and complaint with Palworld is how uninspired the character designs for the Pals. As if they didn't even try to come up with their own design philosophy or art style. It feels like an edgy 15 year old took everyone's favorite bits from BOTW and other currently popular games and mashed em together with free Unreal assets to make "le epic edgy totally legally distinct Pokémon game for cool gamers and not babies because it has pew pews 😎." Other pokemon-like games tend to have their own art style and character design direction at the minimum. Palworld, as it exists now, does not have that. Nor could it even exist in its current state without the existence of Pokémon.
For me this is plagiarism, there isn't that many differences and too many pokemon looking like pals! If it was just a few ok, but this is going a bit far! Making a super interesting fun game doesn't excuse this! And they still can make changes in the designs!
"Game Freak's need to modernize and evolve the Pokemon formula" they did, Scarlet and Violet is a result of that - yes they have technical issues but outside of that they take Pokemon in a more modern and exciting direction.
Frankly... if Pal-World used AI generated assets then Pokemon will have them dead to rights... but They're basically a Japanese game, and if they are caught then Nintendo will EAT THEM ALIVE, and they'd be hyperaware of it over anyone outside of japan. Ie... they'd have to be bloody idiots to have directly taken Pokemon models directly.
I like how their CEO basically said "leave my devs alone, anyhing shady going on with Palworld is on me because I make the decisions here". No matter if the ai and stealing alegations are true or not, but I respect that attitude. Couldn't imagine Bobby Kotick defending his devs like that.
I have a theory that this is the dev who gave the out of box idea to the creator of Pokemon but his idea got mocked by his boss. So he created one to prove this idea is legit.
This duplication even if they use ai. They still need to implement animations and models. Imagine spore, it had random generated models and you could get abominations, this game is a polished gem if they used ai.
The funny thing is that this game was announced years ago and no one said anything, but as soon as it does better than what Pokémon has done in years everybody is up and arms. 😂
Cause the Poke'fanatics that zealously defend pokemon like white knights don't understand law and also don't like it when they get proven wrong for whaling. As was the case with the last two mainline pokemon releases being complete shams, with Legends Arceus showing that the pokemon devs at gamefreak can make something innovating when they actually are allowed time and to break the formula a bit. Plus people forget that competition is good and that Pokemon isn't the only monster taming game. Digimon, Yokai Watch, Dragon Quest... in itself Pokemon is a clone of the genre because the first game that created the genre was Megami Tensei in 1987 well Pokemon popularized the genre in 1996 with Pocket Monsters Red and Green before becoming pokemon in 1998
no one said anything because no one knew it existed. also, it's not accurate to say palworld has done better. recent pokemon games may be crap, but they still end up selling over 20 million copies.
@@garretdrake2347people did know that this game existed it was covered by some you tube channels. Also I wasn’t taking away from the success they had, however if you are the leading company of the monster taming genre without any rivals, then yes you will succeeded. @@darkstorm2579 while, yes, that's not much of a compliment, the game is however extremely well optimized, i've watched close to 15h of gameplay, and i've seen zero lags and framedrops.
There was a playground rumour back in 1999 that there is a "Japan-only" Pokemon game for N64 where you can freeroam like in Super Mario 64, and you could see all the pokemon walking around and you could build your own camp and stuff. This is the game we imagined as a kid when we heard those rumours.
PalWorld really shows the power of 'economies of scale'. That you don't have to price games at $70; you can still make a truckload of money by getting a game into as many consoles/pc as possible with a consumer friendly price
Sadly triple A's don't think like this. They think (we'll lose 500 million selling at 30 instead of 70 not worth the risk) before it even releases so they don't so it ever. They greedy asf
Exactly; the game basically says "We're well aware you're all good people and want to have fun. Take a load off and unwind; this is just a game. Take it hilariously, not seriously." It's so refreshing.
@@SageRuffin well all the power to you, but I've watched videos of people doing it and apparently all it does is give you double the amount of what one pal would drop when defeated
Pokemon fans shouldn't be going after Palworld players, they should be going after Nintendo instead for giving them a half-assed broken game and selling it for retail price
The funniest thing is that this game is nothing like Pokemon other than a general aesthetic and the ability to catch monsters, neither of which Game Freak invented. It's more based on games like Rimworld, Valheim, and Ark than Pokemon. Nintendo should be spending more time, money, and resources on actually making something new and competitive with the market than lawyering up. Pokemon especially needs some kind of competition. It's been stagnant for years.
@@kahp1072 Then why do we NEVER see Pokemon games OUTSIDE of Nintendo Consoles for DECADES? With like maybe 2-3 exceptions. It's no differrent than how Square Enix WAS Nintendo Exclusive, until the PS1. It's still a 2nd Party Studio, much like how Square Enix only games FF games for Playstation & PC. To some degree, Nintendo DOES have Control and/or Influence over Gamefreak.
The person that did the accusations with the models being almost 1:1 has already admitted he modified the models and scaled them to look closer to each other. He has already apologized on X but Yong should address it in the next video he does to cover Palworld.
@@snowylynx36 oh, don't give the guy any credit. They did it for the express purpose to try and get the game to be banned or fail, because they "hate animal abuse". Literally an idiot who cannot separate fiction from reality, and wants this game to die because of it.
@@Xyler94Which just makes it even more ridiculous that fans care so much about supposed plagiarizm when even the famously protective and aggressive towards anything which may potentially cut into their profit or is simply not sanctioned by them Nintendo and Pokemon company aren't doing anything. Even if they had no case they could squish the smaller company with the legal fees needed for a court battle if they thought this game is a problem to them, but likely because they don't care about Steam or PC in general as it's not a big market in Japan they don't care. Fans are acting idiotically here. Nintendo can defend itself, in fact it defends itself too much, so it doesn't need someone to take a stance for them like they are a small indie studio too meek to speak out against their IP being stolen.
@@Xyler94 Art design is not the same as modeling. Thats where the iffy part comes in, as you cannot legally place claims on art style or design (unless it is iconic enough, ie Pikachu).
The funny thing about that is i always thought the designs were a culmination of pokemon’s AND Temtem’s creature designs. Hell, i was calling my pals Tems for the better part of an hour when i played 😂
I wasn't sold for the game, I thought the novelty was cool and hoped it would do well for people who were interested in it, but when I saw a clip of the Foxparks being wielded as a flamethrower... yeah, okay, I'm fully in. Played it for about 6 hours first day. Good shit.
Palworld did what Game Freak refuses to do: Innovate. They took the Pokemon formula and changed it just enough that it would work in a real-time 3D environment, then layered more mechanics on top of it to create the exact same world we see in Pokemon games: Pokemon and humans working and living side by side. Pals having different affinities for different tasks based on their abilities and strengths, lending them to different forms of livelihood, really makes it a team effort and seeing a thriving farmstead with different pals milling about doing different jobs, lounging in a pool, and gathering to eat is a novel and rewarding experience that players are very clearly craving from these games, and something no actual pokemon games are catering to. I hope Gamefreak is taking notes, an open world pokemon game like this is exactly what fans want and their stubborn refusal to take a single toe outside of their safe zone is costing them millions.
I wouldn't even say Palworld is innovative. It's just borrowing elements from successful games, putting them all into one package, and giving the fans what they want instead of skimping out on budget and prioritizing release timelines rather than focus on the absolute basics, i.e. making a fun game that friends can enjoy together that don't cost an arm and a leg. There is no good reason that Pokemon can't implement a Battle Frontier, and it's something the fans have wanted ever since they dropped the concept in Gen 5. This alone is why people often regard Emerald, Platinum, and HGSS as the best pokemon games; there's actually fun stuff to do that's not the same Pokemon game loop of "catch, train, battle".
Palworld is nothing roginal, you're right. Nothing is original. No concepts, no mechanics, no assets. It's as if a game was made by an AI.@@StrawHatNick56
they do, however, get to trademark the designs of specific animals, and have copyright regarding their Specific games. Important distinctions that one must watch out for in these matters.

I wanna talk about the 'charging high prices for their incomplete content' argument that was shown briefly in the video. Palworld at full price is 30 US$. Facts. If im not supposed to shit on people for buying call of duty copy trash, then ill be damned if i take shit for playing a game that's actually putting in effort to be fun and interesting.
Nintendo has had the manpower and technology to do this same thing for years. I applaud Palworld devs for giving people something they've wanted for a very long time. Game Freak is too busy counting money making the same thing over and over again.
It's straight up a Valheim scenario. Very good amount of content to offer even if EA. People are simply starved for innovation. They love pokemon... but Pokemon had no actual competition for a long time and stagnated. This game alone is more innovative than several of the newer pokemon releases. And more fun. Doesn't treat you like a mentally stunted toddler.
And then unfortunately whether or not the game will get updated even further is a question to be asked since their other game Craftopia is also in early access since 2020 and their other other game is just an AI drawing game, but if they do still continue to update the game, they'll want to release content updates frequently or else it'll end of like Valheim and basically 90% of the playerbase stops playing.
@@ParanoidAlaskan I actually have an image with a side by side comparison, and it's pretty easy to Google. Try not to be a drone and do some research. I could also say the same about the Ai claims from the haters, no evidence but you guys latched hard onto that one.
I hate that nobody talks about pokemon being inspired by games that came before it. Shin megami tensei came before pokemon and you find some of the demons in the game made it to becoming pokemon.
There are several DragonQuest monsters who are so blatantly redone as Pokemon as well. Even if Palworld had used the Pokemon models for the base, the redesigns done with them should be enough to avoid a copyright lawsuit.
ikr? somehow they think Pokémon invented monster taming. hell, Digimon and monster rancher we both labeled clones yet they came out in lock step with Pokémon in Japan. they had to be developed at the same time for that to happen. MR was only a year or so behind Pokémon releasing on PlayStation (which has a longer dev cycle than Gameboy). Digimon what later of PS but we a handheld (Tamagotchi game) first.
These "fans" are more worried about Nintendo's bottom line than Nintendo themself and it's beyond weird at this point. You'll break down the polygonal similarities in Palworld's character models, but you won't ask Game Freak and Nintendo why their latest Pokémon game plays damn near the same as ones they made 30 years ago. "13 year old kid, Gym leaders, Elite 4." And rush out to buy it like a dumbass as soon as you see new starters. Honestly? I really wouldn't care if Palworld DID steal the character models. Cause if they did? At least they're willing to try something new. And based on the #'s that's EXACTLY what the people want.
If it was a small indie company that was being plagiarized, I would understand if the internet came for their help. The billion dollar corporation definitely doesn’t need our help.
That kinda an old issue with Pokemon fanbase, they will defend a trash copy paste official Pokeman game, but will attack any other game that similar to them.
To be frank about the creature design, there are so many pokemons nowadays that it would be quite impossible to not make anything following the same art style, similar to them. Even Digimons only start to differentiate their design on higher evolution forms. Also, the big pull to this game is that everyone relates to it somehow. People say it's Pokemon with guns, Ark survival, GTA, Factorio, Fortinite, Harvest moon etc etc... so there is a piece for everyone. Pokemon is just the most popular among them.
I bought this game for the memes and was absolutely shocked by how good it is. It puts Pokemon elements alone put Scarlet/Violet to shame and the survival stuff is well well done lol
As a Pokemon fan, nothing makes me happier than seeing Palworlds success. Gamefreak needs some urgency going into the next Pokemon installment. While S/V are fun, there are no excuses for them to have been released in the state they were. And for the most part they haven’t ever been fixed.

I like how this is yet another example of a game coming out of nowhere and setting the gaming world on fire while clueless CEOs still repeat the same approach of just chasing trends rather than setting them. "Pokemon with Guns" will become a word that we will soon be tired of hearing and that's not because of the quality of the game, but because this most likely will be the new trend that incompetent publishers will force the development studios under their umbrella to hop on and make their own version of it. Because jumping on a bandwagon so far has been a winning strategy, right?
I mean that sound a bit like every single FPS game since day one. Plus This is nothing new that someone takes several different thing that been successful and matching it all together into a new thing. like a RTS RPG game (can´t think of any really big hit but thats more that it was the 1995-2005 era).
Survival games were a trend at one point because of Rust and ARK Survival and with Palworld being essentially "ARKemon" there will probably be another flood of uncreative survival games incoming.
Except that Pocketpair CEO said that they don't have a creative vision, they just follow trends to make games that people like. Palworld is a successful attempt at bandwagon. And that's okay: not every game has to innovate, sometimes mashing together proven ideas and iterating on them a little works great. What matters is prioritising the fun.
This is the first survival game that I've actually got my friends to play, I was the only one that played things like Ark, Rust, Conan, etc. and none of my friends except for maybe 1 odd person, that actually wanted to play them, now that my friends are hooked in it, it's GREAT. To finally be able to make bases, have like a little community with different "Tribes" and do these fun things together is just such a great thing to have. I understand there are people that don't like it due to the accusations of AI or Copying pokemon or w/e, but I'm just happy I can play a funny survival animal game with my friends and that's all I really care about. plus like I saw in a comment, this game is like $30 or so, this game brought more of my friends out for $30, then what a $70 could only hope to achieve
Palworld has definitely taken inspiration from many places. I walked into the ruins of a church last night during my session and noticed the church resembled the one from Elden Ring. It even had a statue in there and provided a similar function to the ones in Elden Ring.
Nintendo fans are completely insane. I'm an Ace Combat and Armored Core fan. Game devs can make copies of those as much as they want cause I would be happy to play them.
I wouldn't call them lazy. Just way too cautious. They take tiny, microscopic baby steps when it comes to innovating the basic formula. They bottled gold in the 90's, but they are way too hesitant to take anything resembling a risk. They are terrified of the purists in their consumer base abandoning en masse and tanking the longevity of the franchise.
With more than 1000 pokemons, it's almost impossible to design a new fantasy creature without hitting *some* similarity.. especially once you start picking the pals apart and compare elements like the neck fluff or the face of a cheshire cat. With the latter, one could rather accuse Ninvento of plagiarizing Alice in Wonderland design assets..
You are crazy if you think that it is impossible to make more than a 1000 creatures in the same style! First of all Game Freak does it for 30 years, secondly there is literally hundreds of creators that do that even better than actual devs. I don't like Nintendo and Pokemon games, Palworld is MUCH better in terms of gameplay, but as a character artist, Palworld is one of the most infuriating games that I've ever seen in terms of art. The fact that this thing made to top 2 games of all time on Steam, makes me believe that people don't care for art and creativity at all

4:20 If these journalists don’t want to see animal cruelty, then they shouldn’t be cruel to their Pals - it’s as simple as that. If you want them to be happy, provide them with the resources they need, if they’re getting sick, hurt, going insane, being overworked, etc. that’s entirely on the player.
The argument that it's bad because it gives the OPTION to be cruel is so hollow. Pokemon is the equivalent of a cockfight as is and real life is full of options to be cruel and most choose to live benevolently. Just cause the option is there doesn't mean you have to do it. It's like they're saying they can't resist if it's even an option.
Reminds me of how some people are defending other recent releases' choices of... well not giving you choices. A lot of justification going around like, "well, for someone, like me, who has no concept of self control, I really enjoy not being able to have choices so I don't have to think or work as hard." 😂 like, cool, but don't force everyone to adhere to your lack of autonomy, or your own self imposed rules.

Something a lot of these people don't realize is that it's not necessary to be a violent cannibal at all. I'm playing nice and peacably and just focussed berry cooking and ive got more berries coming in than i know what to do with. It's actually way more efficient to take care of your pals, give them spas, give them beds, etc. And my god, cremis sleeping on a bed is the cutest model I've ever seen.
It is totally possible to be humane and still succeed. Butchering is, in general, a lazy shortcut for people who don't want to just go hunting, and that alone is an interesting message. Assigning your pals brutal labor regulations actually typically results in less work getting done as they get upset and miserable and stop wanting to work at all, and creates more work for you as the only real way to keep those work conditions productive is to constantly go find replacement pals that aren't absolutely miserable. Instead, build them hot baths, provide them good, high-quality food, have the right mix of pals, and let them take breaks and work at their own pace and shit gets done. I'm in my 30s and grew up with Pokemon games, manga and anime. Pal world is literally what Legend of Arceus should have been, it has everything that I've ever wanted in a Pokemon game (well except the base building part). My childhood dream is that I can ride Pokemon, raid other people with my horde, see them battle in real time instead of the turn based combat. It such a simple concept but Nintendo and GF failed to give it to the public because they knew their hardcore manchildren army will defend every turd they shat out. It seems that alot of people don't know what "Plagiarism" stands for. Based on this logic, every souls-like game is plagirising dark souls, every shooter game is plagiarising doom etc... having similarities or taking heavy inspiration from a game is a perfectly okay thing to do, making a fully original game nowadays is semi-impossible.

Creative cristism, I detect more brain cells in this individual than the average. Might I kindly refer you to do a search inquiry and compare some of pokemons generation 1 designs to an older game called dragon quest? Might jiggle those brain cells even further :-)
I assume that maybe they HEAVILY referenced some pokemon when making the designs, or perhaps some of the artists are experienced in making fakemon... however some of them straight up look like they literally chopped off a body part from the models of one or two pokemon and slapped them together ( I remember seeing something like a quagsire that istg just has the top frills of sobble's head on it lol)

I love it when people say "This is what Pokemon would have been, if it were invented by Americans", and then I tell them Pocket Pair is a Japanese company!
12:50 I feel like the developers post here is being read a bit disengeniously. I read the original post in Japanese, and I didn't read it as using AI to bypass copyright. It was more about how AI doesn't produce exact copies of existing work, so it's probably not copyright infringement. There was nothing in there about taking a copyrighted work and filtering it through AI to bypass the copyright (Unless there was some greater context I missed)
Its kinda insane how far the die hard pokemon fans are willing to go to bring down any competition of their game rather than holding Game Freak and Nintendo to a higher standard to just make better games.
@@fernandobanda5734 I'm part of the subset that thinks pokemon should do better. I support Palworld for various reasons, but the basic reasoning is pokemon needs competition otherwise it'll stay stagnant. After 6th gen pokemon I didn't enjoy any of the newer games. The exception being Pokémon Arceus Legends, pokemon could've made something like Palworld had they continued exploring the path they took with Arceus Legends, instead went bug eyes Scarlet and Violet where the NPC's walked into your battles, and did some jiggly breakdancing lol. i just hope it doesn't start another endless tidal wave of open world survival and/or pokemon style games. market saturation gets annoying quick. that said, more innovation and competition on the pokemon front is very much welcomed.
And you would fail. Game trends are like stock trends: By the time the outcome is obvious, you're well and truely too late to take advantage of it. Because the trends move faster than the development cycle if you don't make absolute crap quality games, and flooding a genre with crap quality games is about the most sure fire way to kill any interest in it.

Apart from one or two designs, none of them would even remotely stand up under a plagiarism suit. As for those few that might, maybe be close enough, none are close enough to be able to claim direct infringement, and the only remedy would be to remove them from the game. What's more, the vast majority of the claims of plagiarism are tenuous enough that under the same standard, DC and Marvel would sue each other into nonexistence and 80% of manga artists would be out of a job. An art style is not plagiarism.
It's blatant man. The Lucario look-alike is literally just Lucario but Egyptian in an AI generator. The fucking noise it makes is literally exactly the same. They've taken every shortcut possible while trying to avoid copyright infringement. This isn't a good thing and I'm so fucking disappointed in gamers right now.
also, people seem to forget that pokemons are basically generic "cartonish animals" with some elemental quirk attached to it, like, how in heavens are you supposed to create a cartoonish fox with fire powers without look similar to one of the freaking millions (no, idk how many of those things are) of already existing pokemons? or we are basically accepting that Nintendo and pokemon owns rights over practically everything related to that particular art style?
“Taking inspiration” and “using game tropes” are just ways of saying they are following trends in gaming to make a product. When pirates were popular, we get pirate games being made. Vikings go yarr? Vikings games! Superheroes making a comeback? Superhero games! Not sure what folks expected here, but the creations, so far, seem to be legally distinct from previously known intellectual properties.
@TheWrathAbove they have abandoned other games before. Once the milk dries up, I hope they don't abandon this one tok instead of making more content to keep players engaged.
I'm glad that things are going the way they are with gaming, there seems to be a pretty big trend where smaller indie games are becoming quite popular like Baldur's gate, among us, lethal company etc. If AAA companies don't start to pull themselves up by the boots straps and out of the cookie jar, then more people will just turn to indie games.
More people should turn to indie games. There's some real good stuff there Especially since AAA are planning to move into $100 price tags for basic product in the future.
@Techigai ya, I'm barely willing to put down 70, but that's for very few select products i usually buy when a games on sale, and I'm not paying more than 70 unless it comes with dlc or something. And on the indie game thing, I watch Markiplier basically every day, and all he plays are indie games, so I'm exposed to a lot of what's out there
Baldurs gate isn't and indie title. Indie means it was developed by a small team. BG density alone would take decades to make without a full team. Edit: I researched and op is correct. They are indie because they made it and done everything themselves but their studio isn't small at all like majority of independent devs so larian is more of a hybrid between both.
Indie games were always where the good games were. In the 90s and early 2000s all videogame studios were small teams who made games because they liked playing games. Now that it's become corporate we've got suits trying their hardest to squeeze the stuff we love for every single penny. Play indies, that's where the fun is at.
Well if they did plagiarized then Nintendo can sue them and take it down so whether or not it's fun, if they are plagiarizing then there won't be a game to play anymore.
That one bit of Pal lore had me rolling. Imagine how Pokemon battles would turn with a creature like that in the arena. "Alright, Lovander, come out!" "That's your Pal? Why is it looking at me like that?" "Because... It's mating season."
I played the previous game by the Palworld devs (Craftopia). There are alot of interesting ideas mashed into there but it is basically a Zelda Breath of the Wild inspired survival game but leans more toward the survival game formula. I think they added Pokeballs to the game at some point before switching over development to making Palworld. Craftopia is on steam
With the insane number of pokemon in existence, why does it surprise people that a game that is using the idea of collectable monsters happens to have designs that have a similar color palette, detail, or aesthetic to an already existing pokemon I think the designs are distinct enough for it to to be fine. Sure, some are so close you can tell there was direct inspiration taken from a pokemon. But to be honest, Palworld's higher quality than the last two main pokemon releases: I can't really complain lol
@YongYea have this mostly accurate translation: > Many might currently dismiss Palworld as just another clone game, but it actually brings as much originality as the difference between BoTW and Genshin. > > Firstly, in the genre of open-world survival crafting derived from Minecraft, ARK: Survival Evolved is the only other game with a notable success that allows taming monsters. > > Palworld differs from ARK with: > - The stylized graphics of the creatures called Pals combined with realistic backdrops > - Autonomous base-building by Pals > - Different taming methods > - The ability to freely switch between various abilities for each Pal > - There are many other smaller differences, but these are the main distinctions. > > The base-building by Pals, in particular, draws inspiration from RTS and Automation genres, making it very unique.
It’s possible to simultaneously want more competition and for Pokemon company to try harder AND at the same time we want the competition to respect the design work of artists and not steal it for profit. Things are not all good or bad. Pokemon company artists have no say in the production of the games so it’s unfair to throw them and their work under the bus just because you want another kind of a game. With the money Palworld is getting they can afford artists to create original designs that aren’t stolen.
I'm going to withhold judgement from whether palworld is ok or not, but I can definitely say that it's no surprise to me that a pc pokemon inspired game like this, doing something new and innovative with the idea of it would be such a success. They found a gap in the market, that part is undeniable.
I'm happy so many ppl are enjoying it. I really hope they build on the game and don't pull an ark or just disappear with the money. Sadly I've been burn to many times so imma wait till the full game. Best wishes for palworld!!
First they have ta get out of early access which is a well known gaming industry sin once that happens than their staying power will prove even more success and of course the next step is to beat the stolen 3d model accusations lol
19:10 am I tripping? Those are nothing alike, just general body proportions are the same, but you can only make so much out of wolf concept. Even polygon density is different, certainly no verticles align. 20:38 that part is also questionable in this concept, when you give artists blueprint of a car, you will get the exact same car proportions, unless they are stupid, or you don't tell them exactly what car they are supposed to make. And when you import a model from older game, you WILL get the exact same model even if you modify some parts of it, what even is this expert? I want to see him really testify in court.
There's a pretty good pic of the Dragon Quest monsters in comparison to Pokemon making the rounds now as rebuttal to the allegations that the Pal creatures are copies of Pokemon. The Dragon Quest franchise started 10 years prior to Pokemon and it looks like the original Pokemon designers may have found inspiration from Dragon Quest, one of Japan's most popular RPG franchises.

Same, Ive enjoyed GBA Pokemon ROM hacks more than any modern Pokemon game, if this game was just a straight up fan game, even if sold for profit, I couldnt care less.
Well since Game Freak is Japanese then it's likely completely legal. The Japanese government is one of the first countries to say that they will not enforce copyright on data used to train AI models even for commercial use.
Pokemon has made over currently a beyond insane 1025 Pokemon designs...of course people would expect pretty much nearly all 111 Pals (currently) in game to have similarities to them... The Pokemon Company and Nintendo shouldn't be able to monopolize the designs, that would be so unfair. I am a little bit concerned about those models matching extremely well as seen in the video that could land them in trouble, but nothing like a small patch can fix the designs to then avoid any legal trouble...at the expense of pretty much admitting that they did at least stole the model/movements...
Also, do people not know where the inspiration for the Pokemon designs came from? There’s plenty that are just one-to-one copies of real animals or with little changes. Pokemon don’t own all animal designs. They don’t own a penguin, a sheep, a chicken, or a fox. I had a look at what people were saying were rip-offs and very few are close enough to me. That cat with the teeth reminds me of the cheshire cat more than anything. I swear I’ve seen that design with round yellow eyes and the teeth hundreds of times and I’ve never seen that Pokemon before. The hedgehog pal is literally a hedgehog, it isn’t copying that green hedgehog inspired pokemon. They also don’t own the style and a lot of the similarities are down to the style. I can see myself as an artist coming up with very similar designs if I used basic animals as a a base and did it in that style. The only ones I see as very similar is the Luxray looking one (that is also used in the model comparison) and the Electribuzz looking one that is used as the first boss battle (but it also looks more like Totoro which isn’t owned by Nintendo).
@@KleioChronicles Also, to add on a little bit to your response about extremely similar Pals to Pokemon: Anubis is also extremely similar to Lucario, both model and size...and since it's also such an iconic Pokemon being both very popular and the starter of Mega Evolution... Fact that it did looked so similar that I was expecting Pocketpair to remove it before releasing their EA, but nope it's still there, and it's considered to be one of the strongest Pals in the current build to akin to a sudo-legendary.
Palworld is one the few survival games I like. Not to complicated. Lots to explore and I don't feel alone in the world. I feel as if there is a new friend around every corner. This game is going places with a bright future and I'm going to enjoy the ride!
As someone who is a Pokemon fan, Palworld is a breathe of fresh air. Grew up with Pokemon almost my entire life. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet core gameplay was every Pokemon fan's dream and it's just botched by it's myriad of technical issues. I really like the gameplay in Pokemon S/V but the technical problems made it very difficult to enjoy. Palworld took that formula and turned the dial up and it got me so hooked that I easily lose track of time that I legit need to stop myself before I screw up my physical and mental health.
Hopefully the worst that happens is a redisign of certain pals if litigation is to hppen. This game has been such a fun time, i would hate to just have it taken away after being hyped for 2 years.
This game is truly a reminder on how big survive as a genre is. Also i'm really happy it exploded this way, its good to see a multiplayer game with no "engagement systems", be mainstream.
I love playing this game it was a nice surprise with how good it is. It is crazy to me that the devs are receiving death threats. I won't ever understand why people think its ok to threaten people lives for something that isn't even that serious in the grand scheme of things
This game only highlights how much Nintendo has been sitting on their asses, making a couple exclusive Pokémon games every now and then (to various degrees of quality) and charging premium for it. The fact that this is on PC alone is a huge plus, you don't need exclusive hardware to play it. About it being a rip off, that's no different than the sea of Soulslike games that appeared after DS went mainstream, sure it's in the same genre, but doesn't pull names and models from Pokémon, so they shouldn't be sued for that reason. If that logic made sense Konami could've sued Ubisoft for having a spy character in a tight sneaking suit.

Nah, just change the 3 starting Pokémons EZ

Except that Pocketpair CEO said that they don't have a creative vision, they just follow trends to make games that people like. Palworld is a successful attempt at bandwagon. The argument that it's bad because it gives the OPTION to be cruel is so hollow. They've taken every shortcut possible while trying to avoid copyright infringement. This isn't a good thing and I'm so fucking disappointed in gamers right now.
@@ClamChowder95Lucario is just Anubis, genius.
@@mechadeka it's the same god damn model and sounds.
also, people seem to forget that pokemons are basically generic "cartonish animals" with some elemental quirk attached to it, like, how in heavens are you supposed to create a cartoonish fox with fire powers without look similar to one of the freaking millions (no, idk how many of those things are) of already existing pokemons? or we are basically accepting that Nintendo and pokemon owns rights over practically everything related to that particular art style?
“Taking inspiration” and “using game tropes” are just ways of saying they are following trends in gaming to make a product. When pirates were popular, we get pirate games being made. Vikings go yarr? Vikings games! Superheroes making a comeback? Superhero games! Not sure what folks expected here, but the creations, so far, seem to be legally distinct from previously known intellectual properties.
I can only hope they continue the good will and release regular updates and don't just abandon it.
I just want to things with future updates; more Pals and more places to explore.
The game is gonna be dead in about a month especially if Nintendo/GameFreak/Creatures decides to take legal action
Why would they abandon an absolute cash cow like this? The bigger concern is them getting greedy and filling the game with microtransactions.
There's some real good stuff there
Especially since AAA are planning to move into $100 price tags for basic product in the future.
Crazy! It's almost like giving the people what they want results in those people paying what it's worth and more.
Doesn’t change the fact it’s actually pretty fun.
Well if they did plagiarized then Nintendo can sue them and take it down so whether or not it's fun, if they are plagiarizing then there won't be a game to play anymore.
Sounds like that's what you're hoping for. Doubt that's going to happen though.@@wolfy6815

That one bit of Pal lore had me rolling. Imagine how Pokemon battles would turn with a creature like that in the arena.
"Alright, Lovander, come out!"
"That's your Pal? Why is it looking at me like that?"
"Because... It's mating season."
*Forfit*
So who's Mike Tyson and who's Robin Givens, then?
I played the previous game by the Palworld devs (Craftopia). There are alot of interesting ideas mashed into there but it is basically a Zelda Breath of the Wild inspired survival game but leans more toward the survival game formula. I think they added Pokeballs to the game at some point before switching over development to making Palworld.
Craftopia is on steam
With the insane number of pokemon in existence, why does it surprise people that a game that is using the idea of collectable monsters happens to have designs that have a similar color palette, detail, or aesthetic to an already existing pokemon
I think the designs are distinct enough for it to to be fine. Sure, some are so close you can tell there was direct inspiration taken from a pokemon. But to be honest, Palworld's higher quality than the last two main pokemon releases: I can't really complain lol
plus pokemon takes inspiration from real animals, plants, and folk lore. bound to be some overlap between games with that in the works.
@YongYea have this mostly accurate translation:
> Many might currently dismiss Palworld as just another clone game, but it actually brings as much originality as the difference between BoTW and Genshin.
>
> Firstly, in the genre of open-world survival crafting derived from Minecraft, ARK: Survival Evolved is the only other game with a notable success that allows taming monsters.
>
> Palworld differs from ARK with:
> - The stylized graphics of the creatures called Pals combined with realistic backdrops
> - Autonomous base-building by Pals
> - Different taming methods
> - The ability to freely switch between various abilities for each Pal
> - There are many other smaller differences, but these are the main distinctions.
>
Same…. Its so buggy random crashes and lost my char glad i was able to get a refund
I hope their sudden huge success with Palworld lights a fire of passion in them, & they decided to stick with this game for the long haul.
Except none of them look alike.
@@fernandobanda5734 Except countless look alike.
DQ monsters where the inspiration for Pokemon, yes. But the monsters in Palworld just look like very identical. Even the style is the same.
@@fernandobanda5734they literally all look alike lol
@@lisdraconis2212the first 150 Pokémon literally look just as “identical” to the DQ designs as pal world does to Pokémon. If Nintendo wants to bark up this tree then maybe they should answer to square enix and akira toriyama
Doubtful anyone will even attempt legal action for any sort of plagiarism because, in this case, Palworld is clearly covered under Parody Law.
No... just no. There's MAYBE one or two designs that might be considered not transformative enough to fall under fair use(Which in reality is a REALLY low bar), but none of it falls under parody.

In an alternate reality Pokemon would have been like this and everyone would stop complaining about it. Bought Palworld the other day and the map is so massive.
No it wouldn't have. Pokemon isn't meant to be a survival craft game. Why does everyone want pokemon to be a survival craft game. Shut the fuck up
"pokemon at home" pricepoint for a decent survival game
I personally could care less even if they literally copied every Pokémon into the game. Doesn’t take away the fact this game is obv what people were waiting for and we know gamefreak ain’t gonna do it.
Same, Ive enjoyed GBA Pokemon ROM hacks more than any modern Pokemon game, if this game was just a straight up fan game, even if sold for profit, I couldnt care less.
I only care because I don’t want them to be sued and have to shut down the game
people were waiting for pokemon to become minecraft?
at best, Palworld would force both gamefreak to evolve AND the gaming landscape to develop better rules on use of generative AI
Well since Game Freak is Japanese then it's likely completely legal. The Japanese government is one of the first countries to say that they will not enforce copyright on data used to train AI models even for commercial use.
i rather no ai use
Rules on AI? I like AI the way it is right now
Pokemon has made over currently a beyond insane 1025 Pokemon designs...of course people would expect pretty much nearly all 111 Pals (currently) in game to have similarities to them...
Bought it saturday night. Put 12 hrs in and lost track of time. This game is beyond what i thought it would be
Palworld is one the few survival games I like.
This game has been such a fun time, i would hate to just have it taken away after being hyped for 2 years.
given it's in early access they could do that anyway just to head stuff off. the amount of accusations over art is stupid though.
Even if they ripped stuff from Pokemon, i hope this serves as a wakeup call to Gamefreaks/Nintendo to make their games better.
Yeah, because all bs Pokemon fanbases are living under the SEPTIC TANK due to their defense to these Pokemon scams
Septic tank > under the rock
Inspiration just as Pokémon took inspiration from Dragon Quest in early stages.
This game is truly a reminder on how big survive as a genre is. Also i'm really happy it exploded this way, its good to see a multiplayer game with no "engagement systems", be mainstream.
7 million copies just 5 day is crazy
Make that 19m know
I *really* wish the pal designs weren't straddling the line between expy and plagiarism because the game itself looks fun af
Agree those designs on Palworld just inviting Nintendo to sue them.
Palworld really needs some originality at this point.
Strongly disagree.
Pokemon doesn't own the 'cute monster' style and that style is definitely a benefit to the game and it's more harsher world.
By this logic Pokemon ripped off dragon quest because a few of the monsters look similar
I remember that meme of James pulling out a gun.
"Team Rocket said f that pokemon shit and James pulledout the choppa"
I love playing this game it was a nice surprise with how good it is. It is crazy to me that the devs are receiving death threats. I won't ever understand why people think its ok to threaten people lives for something that isn't even that serious in the grand scheme of things
Are you serious?
Over what?
