    Wagakki Band is one of the best Japanese groups out there. They combine traditional instruments and vocal styles with modern rock, metal, jazz, and more. All eight members are master level musicians; and their lead singer, the very elegant Yuko Suzuhana, may be the best female Japanese vocalist I have heard. Wagakki Band is the only other Japanese group that comes anywhere close to BabyMetal in international popularity. The video for their song Senbonzakura has more views than Gimme Chocolate. They are even better live, as their stage shows are musical extravaganzas that rival the very best BabyMetal concerts.

Since it is their first time reacting, it is unlikely that they have seen my previous postings about the group, so why not use it again? have been in Japan for work, many times from 2000 until 2019, and being a big fan of music, I went to see all the possible concerts of Japanese bands of any musical genre.
    In Japan there is a millennial and very strong musical tradition, especially in percussion, in fact, there are countless schools to learn to play the drums of Japanese tradition, and many schools for Japanese instruments such as shamisen, a 3 or 4 string instrument completely without keys and very difficult to use.
    Contrary to what happens in the western world, in Japan if you have not done a school, you do not even try to do one thing, this happens for everything, it is part of the Japanese mentality, you cannot cook ramen if you have not had the approval of a master, this generates that in japan the quality of the professionals is incredible, especially in music, if you go to Japan you will be able to listen to incredible bands that play jazz, rock, pop, any type of music, many of these with great influences from the Western music but many others who manage to mix traditional Japanese music with the various genres of Western music, this can create truly incredible atmospheres for the listener.
    In any case, the average level of Japanese musicians is above any Western musician, simply because of the mentality and pursuit of perfection typical of the Japanese people.
    So in conclusion, I can tell you that soon you could find Japanese bands that play so that it may seem even absurd, I give you the example of Akane Hirose, she has studied music for years but she has studied the trombone and the violin it seems to me, then she decided to learn the drums and went to study with great masters for only 4 years and now she is the greatest rock drummer of today and maybe she will end up on the list of great all-time.
    the only real and big problem of Japanese musicians is that the continuous study can drag them into a state of lack of creativity and imagination, forcing them to create music which in the end is only an exhibition of technical ability.
    There are few Japanese bands that manage to maintain true creativity and a great soul in their music, one of them is certainly Band MaId and Wagakki Band, but I must tell you that if you go to see the concerts in the end you will think that Band-Maid is the best that you can find, most of the Japanese bands are exaggerated in the exposure of the technique and are then boring to listen to in an entire concert, I wanted to write this for some time because I listened to all the concerts of the latest Japanese bands
    and as I am also a hobby musician I can tell you that in Japan they have a great technique but very little soul, and the only one with the soul is always the incredible Band maid, I have seen, maybe you will think I'm crazy, eleven concerts by the Band-Maid, 9 in Japan and 2 in Europe, and the most incredible ones were in Europe in small theaters where I could be a few centimeters from Saiki and I had to avoid the neck of Kanami's guitar.
    The instrument you see in this video is the Shamisen, it is very difficult to play and even in Japan few dare, the girl of the Wagakki Band is crazy, it is as if he were jimmy Hedrix multiplied by van Hallen, he does really crazy things at an absurd speed for one instrument with one neck completely without any tone reference.
    hi, yours is the best channel for music reaction.

    • @thechikuwa284
      @thechikuwa284 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No soul? I disagree with you.
      >the only one with the soul is always the incredible Band maid,
      You're kidding me.
      They're an idol band that follows in the footsteps of "Visual-kei band"(ex. LArc-en-Ciel, LUNA SEA, BUCK-TICK, SIAM SHADE, SOFT BALLET, etc).
      Visual-kei music was so popular in the 90's and 2000's that Band-maid are a bit old-fashioned for Japanese, but to Westerners who don't know Visual-kei, they seem to be a breath of fresh air. That's why 70% of Band-maids' fans live abroad.
      I like Band-maid too, but If Band-maid with their strong office promotion are regarded as having a soul, then other Japanese bands are fullfull of soul.
      >the Shamisen, it is very difficult to play and even in Japan few dare
      umm...Even kids can play the shamisen in Aomori prefectur and Okinawa prefectur.

    Your pronunciation of the band name is very good. "Wa" means "Japanese" and "gakki" means "instruments". Likewise, "wagyu" means "Japanese beef/cattle", "washi" = "Japanese paper", "washoku" = "Japanese cuisine", etc. "Wa" is 和 in kanji.

    • @saldiven2009
      @saldiven2009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MetalGuitarTimo "Wa" is just the English transliteration. Japanese has LOTS of homonyms; like their, there, and they're in English. In Japanese, they use different symbols for it.
      The topic particle pronounced "wa" is は.
      Kanji can have multiple different pronunciations depending on context. 和 can be pronounced "wa"but also several other ways; it means Japanese style or peace. 輪 is pronounced "wa," and usually means ring, like a ring on your finger or similar. 把, 羽, and 話 can likewise be pronounced "wa."
      Japanese writing, from the perspective of a native English speaker, really complicated.

    the only two ladys in the group are the vocalist Yuuko and Beni, the shamisen player (the thing that looks like a banjo), Asa the bassist often gets confused by a lady, but he just likes to break some stereotypes. the traditional instruments are the koto (it can be compared to a harp), the shakuhachi (a flute made out of bamboo), the taiko (the giant drumset), and as i mentioned before, the shamisen.

    They have the regular drums, guitar, and bass for modern instruments. For the traditional instruments there is the shamisen (Japenese Banjo), koto, taiko drums, and shakuhachi (the woodwind inst.). There are some songs they've brought in orchestras and whatnot for. Though I've only seen it in a solo mv the lead singer can play the keyboard.

    Just so you know, the Bass player is a guy. The girl on the banjo, thats a Shamisen, a 500 year old, very traditional japanese instrument. She rocks out like a big rocking thing with a built in rockifier. The other odd instruments are the Koto Harp, the Flute, and the Taiko Drums. The best bit is the singer is using a 700 year old poetry style to sing the songs.
