“Wagakki” is Japanese for “traditional instruments” The “lute” thing is a Shamisen. The “harp” thing is a Koto. The “flute thing” is a shakuhachi. The Japanese drums are collectively called “wadaiko”. The band was founded by the shigin (classical poetry) singer, SUZUHANA Yuko, who is also a classically trained pianist. She developed the concept of fusing Japanese traditional instruments and musical tropes with modern music. Yes, you’ve heard these instruments a million times, in movie soundtracks, when they want to convey a Japanese atmosphere. Here is a video that really lets you see up close all the instruments and how they work together: th-cam.com/video/Q2meWkWqc-I/w-d-xo.html It was originally written for a “Vocaloid” which is an electronic virtual singer-essentially an AI. In Japan (where else?) vocaloids have actually become pop stars. What can I say? America may be the land of innovation for things like tech and social media, but in music no one here cares any more. Most of the creative action has moved to Europe and Japan.
@@coot1925 Please note that comparing Kpop to Jpop is as offensive to some people as telling a Frenchman that your food is as better as English food or telling an Italian that your team is as strong as the German soccer team. So it is better not to say it carelessly. But KPOP specializes in the entertainment value of the artist, while JPOP specializes in the unique and original musicality of the artist, and they have different qualities. So I think they are both good.

"Like hearing for the first time" is not lame, that's a great reaction. For me, hearing Wagakki Band for the first time was like remembering why music had once been important to me. If you listen to more of their work you will shed more tears, and laugh, and want to dance, and feel like you could go out and conquer the world. They can do all that. Above all they will never cease to amaze you with their technical skill, showmanship, and sheer musicality. For the best showcase of their talent (IMHO), try Kyoukasuigetsu +Tsukini sakebuyoru from the REACT tour 2019.
Me too....this song made me goosebumps in every time that I've listen and I love this band so much. Before I die, I would love to see them live at once. (Sorry for my any wrong grammar)
"…learning how to hear for the first time"…, that's a wonderful reaction, not at all lame. I'm Japanese. Wagakki's songs still sound new and unique to us as well, but we know the sounds of the Japanese instruments and some of the typical melodic patterns. I wish I could hear and feel Wagakki's songs fresh as you heard and felt them. Thanks for your genuine reaction.
I fully understand your reaction, I had similar feelings the first time I heard this band, and yes, they just draw you in when you watch their live performances, they are such talented musicians and performers. A little info for you. There are 8 members. Yuko Suzuhana, vocals, she is also a Kenbu dancer (fans and swords), and an excellent pianist. She was also responsible for the idea behind the band to bring Japanese instruments and culture to a wider audience, by combining them with rock and other styles of music. Machiya, Guitar. Along with Yuko the main writer and also responsible for the arrangements I believe. Asa, Bass. Wasabi, Drums. Beni Ninagawa, Tsugaru Shamisen (banjo like instrument). Daisuke Kaminaga, Shakuhachi (flute). Kiyoshi Ibukuro, Koto (horizontal harp) and Kurona, Wadaiko (drums). They have certainly become one of my favourite bands, even though they are a long way from my normal tastes, Rock, Metal, Punk etc.
I couldn’t agree more. I really love Yuko and Beni. I do have an eclectic, or wide ranging taste, but the first time I heard this I was blown away. It’s not western classical, Jazz, blues, country, Hiphop, pop, or frankly ANYTHING as a sheltered westerner I had heard before. The entire group is so talented, I’m extremely sorry I missed them at SXSW a few years ago.
First song 焔 means flame and you can feel the flame and second song 暁ノ糸 is about sending good wishes and feelings over lands and oceans to peoples far far away and you get it`s message without knowing the language.
OMG I found that song a few month ago and I am still shocked and exited, the most powerful rock song I have ever heared. This is crazy I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greatings from Munich , Germany
Yeah, Wagakki Band will wreck you the first time you see/hear them. They are unbelievable. Yuko is a goddess. The whole band is on another level. Their shows are spectacular life-changing events. Everyone loves Beni on the Tsugaru Shamisen. The thing she plucks it with is called a Bachi. Kiyoshi plays the Koto. Daisuke plays the Shakuhachi. Kurona plays the Wadaiko drums. Asa on bass. Wasabi on the rock drum kit. Machiya on the guitar. And goddess Yuko always looking gorgeous while singing, dancing, and playing the keyboard/piano. She is multi-talented. Wagakki Band is a world-class supergroup that has no equal.
Wagakki is Japanese for “traditional instrument” so Wagakki Band is “Traditional instrument band.” Beside regular rock instruments like lead guitar (Machiya), Bass (Ada) and drums (Wasabi) there is wadaiko, the other drums (Kurona). That’s who we see at the start of Homura and they are joined by shamisen, the banjo-like instrument (Beni). The rest of the band joins in starting with koto (table-like stringed instrument, played by Kiyoshi), Shakuhachi (bamboo flute, played by Daisuke) and, finally, the vocalist, Yuko. Yuko founded what would become Wagakki Band with Kiyoshi and Daisuke. Wasabi, Asa and Machiya joined not long after and, finally, Beni. Yuko is a national award-winning vocalist in shigin, a classic form of poetry narration noted for the wavering vocals and is also a top-level pianist. Beni has won national awards for Shamisen and the others are just as good in their chosen instruments. They got their start making covers of vocaloid songs (songs created on computer using computer-generated ‘singers’) which include Senbonzakura and Yoshiwara Lament; which Ada had produced shortly before joining the band. And have written and performed their own creations afterwards. As you can see, they are astounding as live performers. In 2021, they performed a live concert with a backing orchestra and was joined by Amy Lee of Evanescence for “Bring me to Life) and “Senbonzakura.” Congratulations. You may have just found a musical rabbit hole even deeper than Band-Maid or Baby Metal. Enjoy the ride.
Don't worry about tearing up. I can't imagine how I would be at a Wagakki Band concert but even seeing and hearing Akatsuki no Ito, many times, I get sand in my eyes. You are in for a treat if you continue to get recommended Wagakki Band material. I have yet to hear one bad song from them.
In 2020, the Wagakki Band was supposed to play during the opening ceremony for the 2020 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo. The 2020 games were postponed and sadly they didn't bring back the Wagakki Band for the opening ceremony 🤘☹️🤘
"This is Japan." - Couldn't have said it better myself ^^ - Though the supergroup ASIA will always be my number one, Wagakki Band to me is the most talented and best modern group of musicians out there. To coordinate so many different instruments is a tough skill. PLUS: I have such a deep crush for Beni since she can play the Shamisen so beautifully and has an amazing and cool stage persona. All of them are so cool!
Welcome to the world of Wagakki Band. Not just professional musicians, but also performance art at its best Singer, composer, pianist, and poet Yuko Suzuhana is the founder and driving force of WGB. Machiya is the sound engineer who arranges the music and has the final say. They have music in all genres, no two songs are the same. They have around 100 good songs that you can play around with. Wagakii band is an 8 piece band. Yuko Suzuhana - Shigin, vocals Machiya - guitar, vocals Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen Kiyoshi Ibukuro ) - koto Asa - bass Daisuke Kaminaga - shakuhachi Wasabi - drums Kurona - wadaiko Can recommend "Episode 0" from Daishinnenkai 2017 and not least one of their masterpieces "Sabakunokomoriuta" from "Otono Kairou" Tour 2018 and "Hakushu Kassai" from Daishinnenkai 2018.
I'm glad you teared up... cause I did too.. I've played Ghost too and loved it. I found the Wagakki Band after watching Naruto and looking up some of the sound track... I can watch peoples first reactions all night. Your reaction was great. Now you want to go see them yeah? Me too.
About Wagakki Band instruments "WA" means Japan. "GAKKI" is an instrument. *WAGAKKI-BAND uses 4 types of WAGAKKI. ---------------- Many Japanese musical instruments have a history of over 1000 years. Despite the passage of time, it can be said that the characteristic of Japanese musical instruments is that the shape of the instrument and the method of playing have not changed much since its birth. This is in contrast to European instruments, which have constantly improved and evolved their instruments. (1) "KOTO" (a large, flat instrument about 6 feet) The ancestors of "KOTO" came to Japan from China about 1300 years ago. The body is made of fine paulownia wood. The wavy grooves engraved on the back of the body make the sound resonate. The strings are made of silk thread. Players attach nails called "KOTOZUME" to their fingertips and pluck the strings. A standard koto has 13 strings. A 17-string koto is also used, but WAGAKKI-BAND's IBUKURO plays the largest 25-string koto. Of course, playing requires the highest level of talent. (2) "Shamisen" (a banjo-like instrument) Generally, the "shamisen" is used as an accompaniment instrument for quiet, light songs. (Current ballads, light pop-like songs) But BENI from WAGAKKI-BAND plays a special shamisen called "Tsugaru Shamisen". "Tsugaru-jamisen" has a faster and more powerful sound and a unique performance style compared to ordinary shamisen. The reason why this style was created is thought to be that TSUGARU-SHAMISEN was born in the extremely cold region of northern Japan. The socially vulnerable (mainly the visually impaired) living in a harsh natural environment earned income by having people listen to their songs and performances, protecting their own lives. They created this striking and unique musical style. The shamisen is played with special claws called BACHI. The three strings are silk threads. Dog skin is used for the shamisen body sheet (cat skin is used for some instruments that require delicate sounds). Synthetic leather is often used today. The reason is that it has good maintenance performance, but it may also be a psychological resistance to using cute dog and cat skins. (3) “Wadaiko” "WA (Japan)" + "TAIKO (drums)" = "WATAIKO". And the pronunciation changes from "WATAIKO" to "WADAIKO". Wadaiko, like Shamisen, has evolved uniquely throughout Japan, and has a variety of shapes and playing methods. There is a band called "Kodo" which is famous as a taiko group in Japan. They tour the world with Japanese taiko performances. If you are interested in WADAIKO, we recommend listening to Kodo performances. There are also many videos uploaded on TH-cam. (4) "SHAKUHACHI" (a flute-like bamboo instrument) Until about 60 to 70 years ago, in Japan, units of length called "Shaku" and "Sun" were used. ("sun" sounds like a shortened version of "soon") 1-shaku = 30.3cm (It is a coincidence that it is almost the same as 1feet). 1-sun = 3.03 cm. "Hachi" is the number "8". And the average length of "SHAKUHACHI" was "1-shaku and 8-sun (about 56 cm)", so the "shaku and 8" part became the name of the instrument. The material is cut from the base of bamboo. It is a simple structure that only requires the necessary finger holes after drying the material and removing the distortion. It is not easy to produce complex sounds with a simple instrument. Shakuhachi is said to be one of the most difficult Japanese instruments to master. There is a Japanese word for this. "Kubifuri-3nen Colo-8nen" This Japanese word means... "We control the strength of the sound by precisely moving the head and neck ----> It takes three years of practice." "You have to control your fingers precisely to make a good sound ----> it takes eight years of training." ------------ from Nippon *It is a sentence using Google translation. I hope I conveyed my intentions correctly.
Friend. You are not the first and you are not the last one who was struck by this group. They play traditional instruments and at the same time sound so modern! An excellent example of ethno rock. And in general, all modern Japanese music, which I had not heard before, greatly surprised me. I discovered it for myself through babymetal (having seen them for the first time almost a year ago).

WagakkiBand was founded by Yuko Suzuhana, the lead vocalist of the band, who said, "I want to convey Japanese traditional culture to the world in a pop image." Their amazing thing is that they are composed of members who have been active in the front lines of various fields since before the band was formed, and they do not stick to the genre of music. There is one caveat. WGB ended its exclusive contract with Avex in June 2019 and signed a global contract with Universal Music. Please note that after that, music videos other than live footage owned by Avex will be blocked if used as is.
I have been following them for the since 2016. I listen to the music so much and it never gets old. Their music is always top tier quality and the members are so sweet and funny. Some of them are teachers for their respective instruments they play. They have their own Instagram too! One with the band, a fan page, and their individual accounts where they post fun content.
omg I love Japanese traditional instraments and when Yuko Suzuhana started playing the i think a Kabuki i started feel like tearing up like so much emotion. I myself have a shakuhachi flute but really need to work on my breathing to get all the notes and have it clear in sound. took about an hour to get sound to come out. ugh Her vocals its beautiful, you can feel the emotions in her voice.
Just FYI if no one has posted, the big flat horizontal harp is a "koto", the big wall-mounted drums the one drummer plays are called "taiko", the flute the man plays is called a "shakuhachi", and the "banjo-looking" thing is called a "shamisen". You can see more videos with the instruments by searching those words.

These are perhaps some of the best in their game at the individual instruments, both traditional and modern rock (and different singing styles), brought together in a supergroup with everything turned up to 11. Absolutely love them.

Regarding the Instruments they use. The Twangy Banjo sounding thing is called a Shamisen. In her case It's a Tsugaru Shamisen. Which has a really interessting history. Here's the traditional "main song" of the Instrument: th-cam.com/video/iJhlX6Lkq_Y/w-d-xo.html And here's a video of some more modern yet still traditionally rooted playing: th-cam.com/video/MgN_xIHqLUA/w-d-xo.html The flute that you hear is probably a Shakuhachi which I don't know nearly as much about as with the Shamisen. 6:30 This Harp looking thing is called a Koto which I also don't know a lot about but here's a short song with it: th-cam.com/video/3K6KpkFXKdM/w-d-xo.html I could also hear some sort of taiko drum but I forgot the name of it.. If I remember I'll edit the comment and add that drums name. FInally I want to quickly mention the guitarist. He's called Machiya (artist name) and he's a god. He has a few solo albums which go more into a metal direction with traditional japanese roots + he's in a bunch of other bands too. He's really underrated. th-cam.com/video/_wzaTMbtAtw/w-d-xo.html I probably left some interesting stuff out but those are just the things that came to my mind rn Edit: This is a really cool song of the guitarists solo album th-cam.com/video/e1-oFN7Am0o/w-d-xo.html
You are so correct. For me now thinking back on my first listen, it was exactly like learning to hear for the first time. They are an incredible band and I would recommend "Synchronicity" especially the video of the song, to experience exactly how diverse and how talented they are. They are Japan's super group. Each memeber is also a part of other bands, but come together to perform as Wagakki. They were chosen to do the opening ceremony at the Tokyo olympics, but sadly, covid nixed that. Some day they will be as known outside Japa as they are in their native land.
"It's like learning how to hear for the first time" You're absolutely right! There are so many sounds we don't typically hear in western music, it's almost like seeing new colors for the first time. they pull the mix between all those different instruments off so goddamn well. theyre insane. edit: i dont think ive ever seen someone shreading a flute????
They are now, and had been, one of my favorite rock band ever..the way they used old Japanese instruments to flow along with today's cultural rock instruments, it's unbelievable. Just a mention though..what they did was improve on what Hiroshima had to offer back in the day, and they did amazingly//
Wagaki Band is a bunch of Traditionally Trained Musicians, and a Traditionally trained singer, who decided to go Rock Band. They play the Shamisen (the "Banjo like" Instrument played with the "Fan"), the Koto (hard to explain, is a LONG stringed instrument that you sit in front of), the Shakuhachi (A wooden Flute like instrument), Taiko/Wadaiko Drums, and Kane (Translated "Kane" literally means "Gong", and the Taiko Drummer has one at his station)

Back in the late 80's I experienced same feeling listening to Andreas Vollenweider who plays electric harp but is accompanied by little known ( in America) instruments from other cultures.
Greg that's awesome! Never heard of Vollenweider but you've peaked an interest. I don't know why but I used to never enjoy going hiking or seeing nature now that I'm older the beauty of nature is what I consider to be an memorable experience. That's how I'm handling music right now.
This guy's channel has a lot of good stuff. My favorite song of their's th-cam.com/video/90QRPSZDzsA/w-d-xo.html Yuko has one of the best voices in Japan. Here is a song of their's from Yuko's official channel th-cam.com/video/hd0wAMhAKnc/w-d-xo.html Here is Beni's channel. On this at 5:30 She slaps the shamisenth-cam.com/video/dbractMmG3E/w-d-xo.html
Yeah I've been on that guys channel a bunch. Great live shows! Thanks for the information about the band. You know as I get older I'm leaning more towards easy listening so I absolutely have to check out Hanafugetsu!

“Wagakki” is Japanese for “traditional instruments”
The “lute” thing is a Shamisen.
The “harp” thing is a Koto.
The “flute thing” is a shakuhachi.
The Japanese drums are collectively called “wadaiko”.

"Like hearing for the first time" is not lame, that's a great reaction. For me, hearing Wagakki Band for the first time was like remembering why music had once been important to me. Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed because it was a pleasure for me.
Thank you for the information about the band! I appreciate it! I was blown away by their performance.
The guitarist's mask and his occasional whimsical movements are also derive from the traditional Japanese performing art of Noh play
woah , at first i thought he was just making a show but it never crossed my mind that it was a Japanese artistic performance sick!!
"I'm in awe." Yes, perfectly appropriate reaction. They are unique, and all jedi-level musicians.
JAPANESE SOUL-METAL.
+
Yuko has added Animi Voice Actress to her resume. She did the voice of Atla, an Angel, to the series 'Peach Boy Riverside'
Wagakki is Japanese for “traditional instrument” so Wagakki Band is “Traditional instrument band.”
Beside regular rock instruments like lead guitar (Machiya), Bass (Ada) and drums (Wasabi) there is wadaiko, the other drums (Kurona).
In 2021, they performed a live concert with a backing orchestra and was joined by Amy Lee of Evanescence for “Bring me to Life) and “Senbonzakura.”
Congratulations. You may have just found a musical rabbit hole even deeper than Band-Maid or Baby
Metal.
I think the only word to put for this group is WOW. the ancient & the new combining the best of Japanese music.
100%
Thank you for reacting to WGB. Yes, WGB is unique. Their sound is beautiful and their stage performance is splendid.
It was an amazing experience and pleasure to cover them!
My first experience with this music. Life changing experience, never herd such beauty from traditional fusion .
In 2020, the Wagakki Band was supposed to play during the opening ceremony for the 2020 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo. The 2020 games were postponed and sadly they didn't bring back the Wagakki Band for the opening ceremony 🤘☹️🤘
😟😟
"This is Japan." - Couldn't have said it better myself ^^ - Though the supergroup ASIA will always be my number one, Wagakki Band to me is the most talented and best modern group of musicians out there. To coordinate so many different instruments is a tough skill. PLUS: I have such a deep crush for Beni since she can play the Shamisen so beautifully and has an amazing and cool stage persona. All of them are so cool!
Welcome to the world of Wagakki Band. Not just professional musicians, but also performance art at its best
Singer, composer, pianist, and poet Yuko Suzuhana is the founder and driving force of WGB. Machiya is the sound engineer who arranges the music and has the final say.
They have music in all genres, no two songs are the same. They have around 100 good songs that you can play around with.
Wagakii band is an 8 piece band.
Yuko Suzuhana - Shigin, vocals
Machiya - guitar, vocals
Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen
Kiyoshi Ibukuro ) - koto
Asa - bass
Daisuke Kaminaga - shakuhachi
Wasabi - drums
Kurona - wadaiko
Can recommend "Episode 0" from Daishinnenkai 2017
and not least one of their masterpieces "Sabakunokomoriuta" from "Otono Kairou" Tour 2018 and "Hakushu Kassai" from Daishinnenkai 2018.
Thank you so much for the information and recommendations I will definitely check out more!
It was hardly a “lame “ reaction, in fact it was an awesome reaction.
Thank you!
what a way to preserve traditional music/lyrics and fusion them with new era instruments/music. amazing omfg... first time hearing this too,
I'm glad you teared up... cause I did too.. I've played Ghost too and loved it. I found the Wagakki Band after watching Naruto and looking up some of the sound track... I can watch peoples first reactions all night. Your reaction was great. Now you want to go see them yeah? Me too.
Thank you so much! If they ever tour the US and land somewhere in Colorado you can bet I'm going to see them!
@@Killermcknight I think we may need to go to them for now :)
About Wagakki Band instruments
"WA" means Japan. "GAKKI" is an instrument.
*WAGAKKI-BAND uses 4 types of WAGAKKI.
----------------
Many Japanese musical instruments have a history of over 1000 years. Despite the passage of time, it can be said that the characteristic of Japanese musical instruments is that the shape of the instrument and the method of playing have not changed much since its birth. This is in contrast to European instruments, which have constantly improved and evolved their instruments.
(1) "KOTO" (a large, flat instrument about 6 feet)
The ancestors of "KOTO" came to Japan from China about 1300 years ago.
(2) "Shamisen" (a banjo-like instrument)
Generally, the "shamisen" is used as an accompaniment instrument for quiet, light songs.
(3) “Wadaiko”
"WA (Japan)" + "TAIKO (drums)" = "WATAIKO".
(4) "SHAKUHACHI" (a flute-like bamboo instrument)
Until about 60 to 70 years ago, in Japan, units of length called "Shaku" and "Sun" were used. ("sun" sounds like a shortened version of "soon")
1-shaku = 30.3cm (It is a coincidence that it is almost the same as 1feet).
"We control the strength of the sound by precisely moving the head and neck ----> It takes three years of practice."
"You have to control your fingers precisely to make a good sound ----> it takes eight years of training."
------------
from Nippon
*It is a sentence using Google translation. I hope I conveyed my intentions correctly.
That reaction was like looking into a mirror. That was exactly me watching this video (and band) the first time. Well done sir :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ditto
Wow truly amazing, I don't think I could ever return to Western metal music after hearing this and a few other Japanese metal bands
I know right!
This encore is one of the best ways to step into this band.
The Wagakki Band is made up of eight members and is a top-notch specialist in musical instruments played by all members.

100% I know how you feel
So glad you checked out Wagakkiband. This was the performance that hooked me on them. You should look at their live performances of Eclipse and Sunwheel :)
It was an experience for sure this performance well was awesome and I'm glad I got to witness it! I'll definitely check out more from them!
I really liked the whole experience when I watched their performance in NY. The lead singer is extremely loud and reaches deep in my ear drums. You gotta see it to believe it.
What a band! Every one of them is a virtuoso. Amazing!
Wish you could have seen these guys live at NYC a few years back. They are awesome!
When you cry or tear up listening to a song, you know its good.
Wagakki Band is one of the most popular bands in Japan ! Every concert i have seen by them is Awesome ! They take live performances to the next level ! Best stage show and production i have ever seen =) Check out (GUERNICA) Japan Tour 2020 Tokyo Singing !!

和楽器バンド 大好きな私には嬉しくて たまんないです😁
This song reminds me of every time I’ve ever watched something powerful in an anime.
Boss battle music?
I got teary-eyed as well because they summed-up my life saga as a Tradi-Japa-Rock, unique music genre.
I sure hope they do a USA full tour at some point. 🥺
@@TheCyberMantis WOW! You really do get around as much as I do. Granted I don’t normally comment repeatedly, or may have paid close attention until recently, but darn if we don’t travel in the same circles. Take Care.

@@TheCyberMantis After performing at Anime Expo 2015 in Los Angeles, WGB held live concerts in New York/Austin (March 2016) and Los Angeles/San Diego/San Francisco (July 2016).
They also released a live DVD of their San Diego show in January 2017. "WagakkiBand 1st US Tour Impact -DEEP IMPACT"

Great reaction man
This band is absolutely Mind Blowing...
Hope to see more reaction of them, they hv so many incredible song...
If this songs make u hard to disgest the music try to check "Ignite", " Yuki Kageboushi" Or "Senbonzakura" Music video... U will blown away once again
❤ Wagakki band
They took rock n' roll to a whole new level.
Wdym blocked? Their gonna remove the videos? Or if u make content about it you're gonna get hammer down at you
Love your reaction! Yes, Wagakki Band are "extra everything" and can be a bit overwhelming!
Thank you I am glad you liked it. Wagakki band is an experience to be had!
Asa (bass) always looks like he’s having so much fun up there playing!
(^~^) 💕🦋
I have been following them for the since 2016. I listen to the music so much and it never gets old. Their music is always top tier quality and the members are so sweet and funny. Some of them are teachers for their respective instruments they play.
They have their own Instagram too! One with the band, a fan page, and their individual accounts where they post fun content.
The lady is using a shamisen, a 3 stringed traditional Japanese instrument. I love this band.
first time with wagakki hunh? glad you liked it. welcome to my world.
omg I love Japanese traditional instraments and when Yuko Suzuhana started playing the i think a Kabuki i started feel like tearing up like so much emotion. I myself have a shakuhachi flute but really need to work on my breathing to get all the notes and have it clear in sound. took about an hour to get sound to come out. ugh Her vocals its beautiful, you can feel the emotions in her voice.
Kabuki is a traditional theatre style in Japan, what Yuko does is called Shigin, and it's a poetry reciting style.
I have been a fan of Wagakki Band for 8 years.
Wagakki Band is a performance band that combines Japanese classical and Western musical instruments.
Lead vocal: Yuko Suzuhana
Base: Asa
Lead guitar: Machiya
Tsugaru Shamisen (Japanese style banjo): Beni Ninagawa
Shakuhachi (bamboo flute): Daisuke Kaminaga
Koto (horizontal harp): Kiyoshi Ibukuro
Drums: Wasabi
Wadaiko (Japanese drum): Kurona
Please react to the songs you recommend.

These are perhaps some of the best in their game at the individual instruments, both traditional and modern rock (and different singing styles), brought together in a supergroup with everything turned up to 11. Absolutely love them.
Always love watching people discover them :)
That last section is called Akatsukino Ito and it’s one of my favorite songs by them!
They did a show that had Amy Lee from Evenessence.
Band Maid (aka Band Maiko) did a video to their song Secret Maiko Lips using the same 3 string guitar throughout the song.
Other Japanese Bands you should check out

The music was amazing and production 10 out of 10 first time ever hearing them and it was awesome but can we take a second and give props to that Flute man he was feeling it on every level of that performance!
Daisuke (shakuhachi player) is truly talented, a great performer with an insane amount of breath control
A suggested WGB playlist to go down: Their live performances are usually best.
Their biggest hit.

A live collaboration with someone we all know and love featuring a symphony orchestra. Possibly the best version of this mega hit song ever - and it's in English.
th-cam.com/video/hk1GtYK7BJM/w-d-xo.html
Joe thanks for doing that for me! I really appreciate it!
Regarding the Instruments they use. The Twangy Banjo sounding thing is called a Shamisen. In her case It's a Tsugaru Shamisen. Which has a really interessting history.
Here's the traditional "main song" of the Instrument: th-cam.com/video/iJhlX6Lkq_Y/w-d-xo.html
And here's a video of some more modern yet still traditionally rooted playing: th-cam.com/video/MgN_xIHqLUA/w-d-xo.html
The flute that you hear is probably a Shakuhachi which I don't know nearly as much about as with the Shamisen.
6:30 This Harp looking thing is called a Koto which I also don't know a lot about but here's a short song with it: th-cam.com/video/3K6KpkFXKdM/w-d-xo.html
I could also hear some sort of taiko drum but I forgot the name of it.. If I remember I'll edit the comment and add that drums name.
FInally I want to quickly mention the guitarist. He's called Machiya (artist name) and he's a god. He has a few solo albums which go more into a metal direction with traditional japanese roots + he's in a bunch of other bands too. He's really underrated. th-cam.com/video/_wzaTMbtAtw/w-d-xo.html
I probably left some interesting stuff out but those are just the things that came to my mind rn
Edit: This is a really cool song of the guitarists solo album th-cam.com/video/e1-oFN7Am0o/w-d-xo.html
Once you get a taste, you can't get enough~

Enka is very addictive! It's just the 1st most ppl can hear enka singing used in a mixed rockish-like patterns while doing still Japanese oriental music. As for me, I heard a lot of enka songs and hopefully I'm eligible to say she is very unique.

Two drummers, one modern trap set and one Wadaiko, traditional Japanese set, or as most westerners call them, TAIKO.
they pull the mix between all those different instruments off so goddamn well. theyre insane. edit: i dont think ive ever seen someone shreading a flute????
hahah I don't think I have either and it is awesome!

Machiya (Guitars, vocals)
Asa (Bass, and yes, he's a trap)
Wasabi (Drums)
Kiyoshi Ibukuro (Koto)
Beni Ninagawa (Shamisen, and she's temporarily doing the vocals in Yuko's absence)
Daisuke Kaminaga (Shakuhachi)
Kurona (Wadaiko)
When some-1 says "Enka-Rock" - the 1st thing comes up in my mind: wagakki band! So natural!
this is a very good and genuine reaction. thank you.
I appreciate that!
They are now, and had been, one of my favorite rock band ever..the way they used old Japanese instruments to flow along with today's cultural rock instruments, it's unbelievable. Just a mention though..what they did was improve on what Hiroshima had to offer back in the day, and they did amazingly//
They have guitar , bass , drums ,Taiko (japan drums) , shamisen , koto (it like guzhen from china but not same) , flute and singer
+
THAT THING is a Shamisen, A 3 string Banjo like instrument. That's right she only needs 3 strings to rock out with the boys.
this band is my fev i love this band so much
I am a wagakkiband fan since 2015 I think, their second album. My reaction was the same hahaha
Now go listen to 砂漠の子守唄 (Sabaku no komoriuta) from Premium Symphonic Night Vol.2 and be completely blown away: th-cam.com/video/ynFg7-gqJqc/w-d-xo.html
Will do!
The underated Japanese rock/metal...
When you starting watch anime in late 80's this is base to trying starting listening they music)
dude we have the same reaction after the video.. her vocals is as beautiful as hers and the band's phenomenal too.. you should also try to make a reaction video for babymetal's akatsuki or road of resistance, loved your reaction video and for that you earn a subscriber..
Thank you! babymetal is on the list coming soon. The next one will probably be the 1997 death video
There is a HUGE amount of Wagakki Band music out there from the beginning of the group right up until today that is just indescribable. Yuko Suzuhana also does some one-off songs on her own and you should check out "Cradle Of Eternity", where she collabarates with the Kami Band in an amazing performance.
Please react more wagakki band live performance please
Absolutely!
I love what they do but yeah it's a niche thing to see from a American stand point.
finally someone who almost cries just listening
When i first heard this masterpiece, had the same reation like u😂
have been a fan for years. like you i was blown away the first time. Another group to check out is Baby Metal,
AaaMMMMMazzzzing!
You'll understand why they call this band a Japanese folk metal band. Try this perfect fusion of heavy metal and Japanese folk music with smoking solo of every member, Kyouka Suigetsu + Tsuki Ni Sakebu Yoru th-cam.com/video/aWlMc-pbDc8/w-d-xo.html.
If you wanna try Japanese version of Dueling Banjo, crazy Shamisen ( the banjo thing) solo with the bamboo flute and the Japanese drums. Toono Monogatari Yon-yon th-cam.com/video/WlSVRNAkVXY/w-d-xo.html. This really sounds like blue grass.
They even play a fusion of jazz with Japanese folk instruments. Synchronicity th-cam.com/video/5j6R8HJ4xx4/w-d-xo.html
akatsuki no ito has an amazing music video
check out their other video : 和楽器バンド / 千本桜
Japan has some exceptional music bands. Unlucky morpheus, bridear, lovebites, band maid to name a few :)
@@Killermcknight Caverna Magica is the best "nature" album of his. Water drips become music echoing in Caverna!
Check out their live show performance of their song Senbonzakura.. 🎶🔥
"Homura" is impressive but "Akatsuki no ito" gets your soul off your body and send it in a journey in perfection! Welcome in this world man! 😉
観てくれてありがとう😃🎧️🎶

「拍手喝采」(hakushu kassai)🎸🥁🪕
This guy's channel has a lot of good stuff. My favorite song of their's th-cam.com/video/90QRPSZDzsA/w-d-xo.html
Yuko has one of the best voices in Japan. She sings in Shigin( an old type of poetry) style for Wagakki. Just a little here. She's in a separate group with 2 other members of Wagakki called Hanafugetsu. I listen to them more but they are easy listening. This predates Wagakki and is still together. She sings in a more contemporary style. Here is a song of their's from Yuko's official channel th-cam.com/video/hd0wAMhAKnc/w-d-xo.html
Here is Beni's channel.
This will go into my gym music playlist
Hell yeah Frankie
Recommended song. → 和楽器バンド / Bring Me To Life with Amy Lee of EVANESCENCE th-cam.com/video/hk1GtYK7BJM/w-d-xo.html
Kinda made the think of the old "ninja scroll" anime. They used a lot of those instruments in the music
