Great video review. I was purchasing my son his first R/C car and went with the 18859e initially. I quickly realized 2 upgrades would bring the cost to the 18859a and be no where near as good. The 18859e was returned and I actually got the 903 1:12 scale which is an amazing bang for the buck. Hopefully my son doesn't kill it quick only because of the extra mass.
Got the 16889 tires in the mail that I’m going to put on this. Do you think the truck will be OK in short grass? Is the 16889a pro much better in grass?
Definitely not bad for being right out of the box! Just hard to land stuff with it being so small. My upgraded 1/12 scale cars are some of my favorites! Thanks! He definitely love doing it and he’s getting better and better at controlling them!
Awesome review and bash! I’m sure part of the blame to the premature broken parts is the cold weather! It definitely can’t help. Your totally right about those stock tires, too small and too flat to put all that brushless power to the ground, especially if it’s wet. It still looked like a great deal of fun and it’s new look is very appealing! ! As always, great video my friend! Always excited to see what you got going on next! You and lil Max take care!💥👊🏼💥👍🏻💯
Thanks! Yes the wetness didn’t help. It has JUST started snowing like 10 minutes before we went out lol. I’ll be upgrading those tires! 😉 next is that new mini crawler!
I have one more video not long after I made this one where I put larger wheels on it. But the rear diff didn’t last long and it’s been sitting ever since lol. Just too small for me. Been considering getting it back out though as it’s still fun!
This car is fun. I put a hobbywing Quicrun 2435SL 4500kV motor in mine. Bolts up no issue, though it was faster in reverse. Just had to swap 2 of the 3 wires on the ESC. It's an absolutely rocket now. Just makes me laugh.
@@DerbyCityRC the cups on my differentials kept coming off as well. Used some red loctite and so far seem to be holding. Ran at least 20 batteries through it. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 Now that I've typed this out they will break 😂. If they do I'm going to try J-B weld next time.
🤣🤣 That’s crazy. The picture of the screws in the parts diagram look much longer than what I actually have. I tried some blue loctite cuz I was out of red and it did not hold. I’ll try red! Thanks!
Now it comes with black plastic reinforcing the body , and mine the controller has a speed control that was set in the middle. When I set the speed to full it did a immediate backflip lol
It's just like my redcat 16 I converted to brushless, the tires are bad when it's cold out,in warm weather they grip a lot more making it flip easy when turning when it's warm
Hey man love the videos. This truck is my first RC. I am looking for a good battery charger that isn’t gonna break the bank. U have any suggestions? The USB chargers that come with them take forever to charge.
Thanks! I really haven’t messed with chargers too much. I got one for my Kraton but it was expensive. I use one similar to this all the time though and like it. www.amazon.com/dp/B073WSDCZM/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_RY8T93JYZJMVDMKPC3BB?linkCode=ml2&tag=derbycityrc03-20
I have become a fan of HBX. I have Losi,Arrma,Axial,UDI,Wltoys. I drive my HBX 18859 and my Devistator the most. So much fun. Throw some Rc4wd scrambles or mudslingers on that Devistator. World of difference. I have aluminum beadlocks on mine but the wheels that come with the truck will work.
Does the battery charge just with the usb cable or do you need something special to monitor it because I’ve heard that li-po batteries can be very dangerous.
It can charge just with the usb cable it comes with. You have to supply the wall plug adapter. Yes li-pos can be dangerous. Always get a battery charge bag (or even better, a box like this one: amzn.to/3lzV316) for the batteries to charge and store in just in case. Don’t leave the battery plugged in once charged. Unplug once fully charged. Be sure to read actual lipo safety manuals.
Yes, but I wouldn’t use a “fast” charger. I’d cap a USB charger at .5 amps for a lipo, but still follow the guidelines I have posted in the above comment as well.
They don't do this truck in England had to buy it from Amazon America. Took a good few weeks to get here but I was very happy with it. The rear did sag abit. I stuck some 16889A Pro shocks and wheels on it and it made the truck alot better. Just wish it was larger maybe twice its size and same performance!
Glad you got it! Yes I’ll probably be doing the 1/16 shocks and tires! I agree, my favorite car is the HBX 2995 with the brushless upgrade and oversized tires. Just awesome!
That’s another one I’ve looked at. I have the HBX version of the Flyhal FC610 and it’s one of my favorite cars once I upgraded the motor! I’ve got a few videos on that one, it’s the HBX 2995. Super fun!!
Great videos, im a huge fan of the hbx line. Ive upgraded my 18859s, just need to do the diffs, the upgrade diffs and spur gear appear to be the "zinc alloy" cheap metal that is compatible with the stock center shaft, the 18859a in pictures seems to have the better quality steel spur gear and diffs like the 16889a, have you had this apart yet to see if they are different? Hbx seems be doing this with their newer models where there is 2 different types of metal upgrades.
I haven’t had it apart. However the differential outdrive cups are held on with screws on this car, which the 16s don’t do that. I’ve barely had any run time on this car since this video because that screw pulled the threads out or snapped off inside the diff. Haven’t looked into it completely yet.
I have the Haiboxing (HBX) 18858 Hailstorm Stadium Truck and I'm wondering what kind of oil-filled shocks you'd suggest for it as an upgrade? Any other budget-friendly upgrades that might be beneficial? Also same question for the DeeRC 300e and the Hosim X07? Ps... would you be kind enough to do a comparison video on LIPO vs Lithium Ion and the best bang for the buck motor... and WTH is an ESC and it's deets? 🙏🏻 Keep up the great work 👌🏻
I actually haven’t run this truck really since this video. Had some rear diff issues and haven’t fixed it yet lol. So I don’t really have part recommendations for any 1/18 scales. I actually like the red shocks that the Hosim x07 comes with. I get those as upgrades for my 1/12 scale cars. I think that’s what they come with anyway. These here: amzn.to/42GI6qE I plan on doing an RC beginner video or series soon and much battery stuff will be in there along with esc info. It’s alot of info lol Thanks!!
I would take that job lol. Yes the bodies don’t last us very long. It’s rare they blow apart that bad on the first run though. I think it’s only happened 3 times. more body beef ups coming soon lol
I have not tried it. I may do that, but I’m also trying to see what methods work the best for reinforcement of the body shells. Drywall tape and shoe goo is likely the best, but it’s time consuming so a lot of people want a good alternative. I may still try to find a volcano body cuz I like the way they look👍
Lol exactly. I have other bodies I need to do it to and same thing. So hoping to find one of my methods I’m going to try works almost as good and takes minutes to apply
Has anyone had problems with the esc crapping out? My car seems to run ok for a minute or two and then it doesn’t wanna go anymore. It gets the go signal from the controller, tries to spin the gears and the light on the esc dims to almost nothing. Forward or reverse it does the same thing.
@@DerbyCityRC well I got my HBX running again. It wasn’t the esc. They sent me a new motor and that was the issue. I put bigger tires on it and now it has a hesitation. When I hit full throttle from a dead stop it seems like it is only 50% power for about 5 feet and then all the power will come in after that. Ever had an issue like this?

Absolutely!!
The tires from the 16889 work great on this truck. I think they’re perfect
Thanks! Those are probably the next ones I’ll try 👍👍
FYI, forgo the aesthetics and apply tape over the body clips. Never lost one since.

where to get parts, wheels, body etc.
If not on Amazon, then Pxtoysrc.com has many parts for it. Also Haiboxing-hobby.com
