@@DerbyCityRC I just subscribed!!! I'm looking for something smaller and more electric than my Gas 1/5th scales. Nice channel. I've found myself watching your videos more today than most any other content creator on this subject. Thanks!
@DerbyCityRC yes i did see the 2996A video, I mean they are both brilliant. I am leaning towards the 2996A because it is classed as a 1/10 scale and I prefer the body I think.
Yeah, I agree, sometimes a new HBX isn't actually really a new car, at all... I only own a few of the many HBX options, I don't really feel I need them all... Still haven't got this one, though, but I do like the orange desert truck better... Great video as always, buddy, you always manage to pack in a bit of fun for the viewer. Many thanks!
😂 your the king of creative box openings. I was waiting for an order outside a food truck and played this video to pass time. When you threw that box at the beginning I literally lol. Much respect bro keep up the great work.
That smaller truck you put together with the orange wheel rings is awesome. I have the same exact truck! The HBX is a good budget platform. Also kudos for showing the Rumpke trashcan! I work in recycling center for Rumpke on Oak Street! Awesome video man as usual
Did you do that 1/16 scale build or you just have the 16889 pro? Either way it’s awesome! Rumpke has definitely been good to us so far! A few videos ago I even showed our rumpke truck lifting the recycling can and dumping it! Super cool machinery!
Haha! Seriously great choice! Just don’t forget I’ve got the product link and a coupon code in my video descriptions! 😃 Using those helps the channel grow!
I'd like to see you review the blackzon smyter. It's the same truck but 2-3s. Mine has stripped the screws on the differentials. Hpi has a 2yr warranty and send you parts but I wish they offered aluminum differential housing.
Nicely done and well said Evan! Your absolutely right. There’s not a lot they have to improve on this, but a bigger battery tray or an adjustable battery tray would be a big deal to most of us. I have this truck but it’s the one with the black and white “checkered “ looking body. I do really like it a lot. On 3s it’s blast! No doubt you’d get your backflips. There is so much new and good competition out there! HBX needs to hear consumer input and react or people will just go to the companies that do. Take care my friend! Always awesome presentation buddy! Have a great 4th of July weekend 🇺🇸🎇🎆🪵🧨
@@avolationindustries yes, but not a steady diet of it. Just once in while. Nothing has happened … yet. I have run a 2200mah 45c pack with no issues. Got to pay attention to heat and of course doing this is at your own risk.
Thanks Robby! I did run 3s on my 901a and it caused my esc to have a delay and a bit of a mind of it’s own. That was quite a while ago. Too bad they didn’t put a slightly better one in this. But being gentle on the acceleration and hard braking should keep her going on 3s occasionally! Same with that 2996a, as it’s probably my favorite budget RTR that I’ve got, yet it’s a weak esc! They definitely need to step up their esc game lol Thanks man and you have a great 4th as well!!
Ya you can’t beat the look of larger tires with a wider stance. That’s why I love my 2995 and 2996a as they can take the larger tires. Hopefully they’ll last for ya. Keep me posted!
@DerbyCityRC Just an update. It's been awesome with the huge tires and hub extenders.. diffs held up nicely so far. Just added some super heavy fluid. I swear man, HBX makes the absolute best budget RC cars. Honestly, I hate even calling it a budget rc. When I'm going bashing, I choose my new beefed up 903a more often than not.
love these videos! on my HBX903a, i broke the rear rear hub, and on the lower part there is this pin holding it in with no screw head or anything like other cars have. Do I just pound it out with a nail or something? this is the part "HAIBOXING RC Car Spare Parts Steering Hubs/Rear Hubs, 1/12th Scale Brushless RC Truck Replacement Part Apply to 903 & 903A & 905(90105)"
Cool video, I like this truck. I made my own brushless upgraded 903 when they had the parts for it as an upgrade. Its just plain dependable and fun, but not crazy fun lol. They should have just put a little bigger motor in it.
Great review! My 903a has the checkered body and blue shocks. I changed out the shock fluid to 50w and they are mint now. I went with short course truck tires, they are taller but not as wide and weigh about the same as the stock ones. I got 31mph top speed. Have you ever tried programming the hbx esc? I have seen the 2997 done but not any other of the older models. I ordered a hobby wing card I'm gonna try it out.
Thanks! That sounds awesome! As far as I know, the older ones are not programmable. The newer 3s capable models, like the 2997a, are Hobbywing ESCs and I believe can be programmed, though I haven’t tried yet lol
if you put those big tires on the hbx pro 16889 you get the most for your money and its a monster. The only drawback is the top speed which is not wow (40ish) but It performs great and is the most durable car. It will be interesting to show a side by side size comparison of your 1/10 granite and rival to the 1/12 and 1/16. And as always great and honest to the point content.
I have had these 903 tires on my 16890 and 16889a pro before. Tried them on that 16889/901a Frankenstein build too and didn’t like them on that one. For this truck, I think they’re too lightweight. Thanks always appreciate the comments!
Will the 2S Bashing 251P 35C 2200mAh battery upgrade fit? I've seen you use this battery in other videos which I've used (tightly) in my Haiboxing 2995 and Flyhal FC610
@@DerbyCityRC perhaps throttle control (particularly braking), quick turning and drifting, mid air control, tips on landing any jumps, all this showing perspective from the remote.
I bought a 903a and it lasted me maybe 1 1/2 hours before the gears were completely shot. Heard good things about these trucks but I’ll never buy another one again. Moved up to arrma big rock
Nice, I found similar results with my 903a. Somehow the shell is no where near as good as the 16889a or the 2996a, and those axel stubs leave a lot to be desired, I sheared one in half simply from overtightening a wheel nut. Have ordered some different ones to try, I think the location of the eyelets makes them very weak. Still, a good sized and balanced truck, that will benefit from a little reinforcement mods. 👍✌👌
With 25 or 26 mph for this car I am very happy! Do you think that the car's electronics, the differentials and chassis, can withstand 24-25 mph for about 25 cycles of use with a 2s lipo battery? greetings friend 😊😊😊😊😊
Not sure, but what you can do is strap two batteries on top of each other, then use one of these: amzn.to/437ByjT That will double the run time. Just will need a longer battery strap.
@@DerbyCityRC Will that also double the amount cells, Rather than just increasing runtim Like in other rcs, using two 3s or 4s lipos to make 6s or 8s (thus need different esc and motor)? Thx if answer (in advance)
@myrnav2837 great question! If you use the connector I linked (parallel connector), it will only increase runtime, not voltage. If you use a “series” connector it will increase voltage, which you definitely don’t want to do in this case. It all depends on how it’s wired.
It will not stand out from other rc cars and will fail.. Nice video as always mate! This 2996 is super..( does the granite worth the price difference from the 2996 though?) Just wondering
I agree. No innovation with this one, just copy and paste. The 2996a is awesome though! Had plenty of changes over the previous models. Yes the granite is a totally different animal worth the price!
I always thought the 901a was ugly. I still ordered one the day they came available. It has been less than reliable for us but we still like it a lot. I bet they moved the motor up so it had more airflow around it. The motor in the 901a always is near meltdown on 2s but it's tucked into the chassis.
I actually don’t mind the looks of the 901a lol. I know many people don’t though. From what I recall, this has the exact same motor placement as the 901a. Motor right ontop of the spur gear. You’re right though, could be to help keep it cool along with the heat sink.
