I have to say that even though we are reasonably well travelled through much of this landscape it has completely broadened our horizons and shown us that there is so much more to see when you travel at a different pace and in a different mode. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Originally we were planning to drive from Inverness straight to the Orkney Islands when we tour Scotland next year. Thanks to this video we are now planning to stay overnight at Loch Eriboll to explore the north coast before we catch the 1900 ferry to the islands. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Cheers from British Columbia, Canada.

We so appreciate your comment and support Ken, thank you! Means a lot to us, especially from a local, we’re thrilled that you think we did your beautiful country justice! All the best!
I can’t believe how mesmerising NC500 is! Sometimes it felt like James Bond Skyfall and sometime like Lord of The Rings! Thank you for shearing those views with us! I am putting more and more pins on my google map :) As always all the best and amazing adventures! 😊
Hi Iza, good to hear from you, thanks for leaving us a comment. You know it often felt like we were driving through a movie set. Fingers crossed for you that you get up to Scotland soon, GREAT road trip. Thanks 🙏 😊🚐
Nice video. You really look as though you are having a great time. We are doing Shetland, Orkney and the top corner of 500 on our way back down later in summer. I did the 500+ back in 1984. Great sunset at Achmelvich camping. Got to stand on Dounreay reactor plate and lighthouse keeper allowed us to watch the light come on at the top of Duncansby lighthouse.
Hi Booboo, great to hear from you. Thanks for watching. Nice adventures you have had and are having up in Scotland. We LOVED it and will be back. Thanks for your support, let us know how your next trip goes. Cheers!! 👍🏴🙏

Hi guys what a great video I was so interested in this especially Apple cross pass as I was there in June 8 I done the apple cross pass I was yes in a higher motorhome it was 7.4 meters long but I had watched TH-cam videos on the pass so of we went what a exciting trip up there I had to but it from auto to manual gearbox so it did not run away from me we also done the cost rd on the isle of sky absolutely stunning, well back to you I do follow your blogs but I really love this one Scotland is so beautiful so many views snow still on the mountains just fantastic,,what a beautiful water full as I cannot walk I missed so much only one leg and to rough to take wheelchair,so watching you has show me what I missed thank you so much ,got to say I love you telling me the history in many places till next time take care keep safe,John 👀🥂🌹❤️🌈🌺😂🤹♂️
Hi John, a visit to Skye and now also a trip on the NC500 in a motorbike the size of a house!!! Amazing work friend, that must have been some gnarly driving :) we love that you are travelling along with us, even if travelling yourself is a little tricky, it seems you are finding great ways to keep yourself on the road. Welcome to join the Newby’s, we are very pleased to have you along for the ride. :) see you every Sunday!
Hi Zoe, great to hear from you. What a great honeymoon destination Scotland is, well done!! Thanks for tuning in!, great to have you travelling with us! 😀😎👍
Wow, haven’t you done a lot in one year. Well, I really didn’t want this video to end the information and content has been truly amazing. Well done John for driving on the route to Applecross. I remember doing that journey in a car but only as a passenger and I was braking all the time😀😀. Good to see little Crusoe having a giggle too, beautiful baby. See you next week
Wow thanks so much Jane, it was a long one so that means a lot to us! And haha - Tara had her foot firmly on the brake pedal too! 😂 thanks so much for being here, we really appreciate it snd we hope you have a happy week! X
We did Scotland in a motor home in autumn 2019. As a tip to everyone ‘go with a plan’. We didn’t, we ended up driving from South to North, East to West almost every few days. Don’t get me wrong, we had a great holiday, but could have seen/done more if we either followed this route ( or the NC 250 ), or planned our own. I drove 2500 miles ( 40 hours of driving ) in 2 weeks, in hindsight I personally would have limited myself to the west coast ( with the exception of John O’Groats ) for one 2week adventure. Sorry for hijacking your vid, it’s a beautiful place and you made more of your time than we did. Enjoyed this video, very brave with an 8 week old, mine were 2, 4 and 6 when we went, my wife just said she wouldn’t have been brave enough with a newborn so 👏👏👏 to you. Nice van too 👍 We’re doing the perimeter of England in 8 weeks time 🤪🤟🙏🤞🏻 For future, can you tell me where the road is at 14:50, seen it on plenty of programs but don’t know where it is?????
Hi Cerealkiller, good to hear from you, thanks for your tips there, hopefully other people who watch our video will also read your comment. Organisation is key, we did try to film the video as a linear guide so that one stop came directly after the next with out any need to go back, and you’re right that John O groats is a key stop, even if you are only doing west coast, the drive across the top is epic!! We are currently in Portugal. Crusoe is on his 4th country now so a country every month!! New video out today at 11:30! Thanks for your comment, good to have you along for the ride friend! 👍🙏🚐
@@TheNewbys I edited my last post as you replied to my original one, can you tell me the name of the area/road at 15:50, desperate to drive that one 👍👍👍
That’s Corrieshalloch very cool gorge and the roads around there are spectacular. Let us know if you get there. Like you say, the NC is a road chock full with stuff to see. Epic. :)
Fanbloodytastic been on the 500 great scenery great food great friendly folks came across some Highland cattle in the road tried to move so we could pass they weren’t having any of it just had to wait they moved after licking the car ,do it but don’t be in a hurry and drive carefully 👍👨🏻🏭
Hi Paul, great story friend, love the cows, especially ally when they give your car a free clean! 🐮👍 thanks so much for watching and taking this journey with us, your support is so very much appreciated! 👍🙏🚐
Lovely video I am staying in wick in my pod caravan early may this year and exploring from the campsite there in just my car as some of the roads look a bit unsuitable to tow a caravan Many thanks 🙏
Michael! Great to hear from you!! Cheers friend. Pleased you enjoyed the video 👍 thanks so much for watching and taking this journey with us, your support is so very much appreciated! 👍🙏🚐
love you guys so much what a gorgeous family you are, watched you build you van amazing job its beautiful, you should be so proud x watched all your videos, i got married 2 weeks ago and we have hired a camper from the 21st to the 25th august for our honeymoon, we are going to scotland 5 days 4 nights can not wait.
Hi Kathy, CONGRATULATIONS!!! We wish you all of the very best for the future. It’s sounds like you have planned a most excellent honeymoon, a great way to start your “new life together”. Thanks for watching our videos, it is great to have you travelling with us!!! 👍🚐👰🏼
How long did it take you to recognise that you could have done with 40 nights not just 4 Kathy to get any sort of a take on the Highlands and North Western Highlands, never mind The Cairngorms or Central Belt? Every year we go, we take longer and longer only to realise that there is even more to see than we had expected. Next year it's Lewis and Harris then Ullapool to Durness. We're allowing 10 days for that.
Hey Meinart, yep that’s a great cave. NC500 is our most popular video, no idea why that happened, but it is a great road trip! Thanks for watching, you are nearly all caught up!
That is so amazing to hear Colby, thank you so much! It is an epic trip which we absolutely loved. We'd like to go back one day and drive it again in the other direction, it'd be a totally different experience! Have a great week!
This brought back so many memories! I lived in Scotland for 4 years, and one of my novels (The Cardinal, historical fantasy fiction) is set along Loch Eribol; we spent a few weeks around Durness and Loch Eribol, exploring brochs, souterrains & soaking in the atmosphere to distill it down into the language of the characters in my story (spanning ancient pre-Scotland to modern archeological digs). Did you also make it to Ceannabeinne beach? It's an amazing geological gem, with vertical strata - when the glaciers receded, northern Scotland "popped" upward as it was released from the weight of ice... You also mentioned Moine house; its name likely comes from the Moine Thrust Belt, which is the geological tectonic feature of northern Scotland. This vlog made me quite homesick!❤️
Wow, some absolutely breathtaking views along the way there and definitely makes me want to get up and go! 2021 goals just been amended ;) What wonderful memories you will have, especially as it wasn't too crowded anywhere by the looks of things. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Applecross yeah did it in our 6.46m Ducato based Dreamer D60 - both ways. It made the engine sweat a bit - stopped at the top and the fan was on for quite a while.
Hi Ukgroucho!! Great to hear from you! Nice drive that Applecross pass. You did well in a 6.5meter van! We had the same with the engine and of course the breaks on the way down, a bit smelly!!!🚐🏴👍
Hey Graham! So great to have you with us friend, and thanks so much for leaving such a kind comment. We so appreciate it and look forward to having you along for the ride! Have a great week 😎
Nice account of your trip. I’ve been interested in making the NC 500 trek ever since visiting the Inner Hebrides as well as Glen Coe. Thanks for going light on the adverts.
Hi Silopanna, great to hear from you. Thanks for dropping us a line. NC500 was terrific and if you do ever get the chance, we are sure you will enjoy it. A question for you, your name Silopanna, where does that come from? Very interesting. Thanks!! 🙏🙏👍
@@TheNewbys A good ask. It is “Annapolis” spelled backwards. It’s my hometown in Maryland. It was called “Anne Arundel Town” during colonial times but the name turned Greek-like for whatever reason at some point. Anne Arundell was an aristocrat (Lady Baltimore) from Tisbury in Wiltshire. Though she never set foot in her namesake.
Hi Bill, good to hear from you, thanks so much. We Loved travelling in your country, as you say, it is magnificent!! More videos of adventures every Sunday. 👍🏴🙏
Thanks Blue Steel. Great to hear from you. Appreciate that you have left us such a kind comment. NC500 is a terrific road trip, we will for sure go back one day and do it again!! :) 👍🚐😊🏴
Fantastic video, really professional and great to watch. I’ve wanted to do this trip for a while with my wife and it’s really inspired me to bring it forward. I agree with you that it must be one of the most beautiful journeys in the world. Thanks for doing this and good luck with your future journey.
Hi Pablo! Great to hear from you. Thank you for your comment. Very excited to hear that you are bringing your own NC500 trip forward. Great news. Thanks for watching! 🙏👍
Thank you so much. I really like your new channel. Very informative and made me excited to take the NC500. Well done for doing it with the little baby. Enjoy your future trips :)
@@TheNewbys You did, it was the road you described as up and down and left and right. At 18:53 you’d just passed a croft called Oldany on the road. Maybe in large motorhome it’s not a great idea for a road, but in a small one or a car, the road is beautiful. There’s a poem called “A man in Assynt” by Norman MaCaig that describes it’s haunting beauty better than I can.
We there you have it! “this frieze of mountains, filed on the blue air”. Great poem Graham thanks for sharing. The B869 a road I certainly won’t forget (even if it’s name is mundane enough to forget) a road like that should have a real name, like Hamilton Highway or something! 😊🏴
Wow 1 year from Landsend to John O’Groats but what a journey you’ve been on. Not the one you thought you’d go on, took you longer than you thought when you set off but now it really is the beginning of a wonderful long adventure with little Crusoe x
It was indeed a journey even better than the one we thought we would set out on, and just so incredible to have been there a year to the day. Thanks Julie, means a lot to us to have you along for the ride. ❤️ 🚐 💫
Hi Jenny, always great to hear from you. Thanks for your encouragement. Blimey the last few weeks have been tricky, but we are super excited about this next few weeks. As you say.... FUN FUN FUN. :) 👍😎😊

As an exiled Scot watching this has made me homesick, I have been to many of caves and gorges around the nc and being fond of the water of life it was great to visit some of the distilleries around the area, happy travels folks enjoyed it very much.
John, it’s wonderful to hear from you and we can imagine being homesick for beautiful Scotland, even though it’s not our home. We hope you can get back there soon one day, we loved every moment exploring. Thank you for saying hi, it’s great to hear from you snd to have you along for the ride.

Hi guys, this was the first video I watched of you on your adventures, since then I've watched your van conversions and many more of your videos travelling around Europe. I love following you on your trips and the videos show what a lovely family you are. Just wanted you to know after a lot of looking I have just purchased a lwb mercedes vito and I am in the process of converting it into a campervan and 'Koti' has been a real inspiration. Thanks guys Mark.
Hi Mark, great to hear from you friend. Thanks for dropping us a line. Congratulations on you van purchase, excellent news, do let us know how you get on with the conversion. Koti was a wonderful van and we loved our adventures in that van. Of course when Crusoe arrived we needed something a little bigger. 😃. Thanks for watching great to know you are out there. Ps we just released one of our all time favourite videos today from Jordan. 🐪🙏👍
Hi Tara and John, do you have a video about how you've met? I am a newbie at the Newbys' ( wink) . Fun fun adventures! Awww baby . Thank you for providing us details about the place and the details of where you've stepped on and the waters and the stones and so on--it's like I am there too!!!! ahhh what a beautiful place.
Hi friend, we don’t really have a video about how we met, but we do have some very early videos about Antarctica where we were married. Thanks for joining the adventure friend, and for watching. Look out for a Q and A Vlog soon. 🙏❤️👍
\Fantastic watch and nice to see a little explorer in the making too. Those roads looked a little nerve racking to drive but probably great fun too :) Subscribed
Thanks so much Dan! Yes, some of those turns were sharp and steep, it really was like a rolling rollercoaster in places and, with the epic scenery providing a compelling distraction it’s quite the trip!! Thanks so much for subscribing and being a part of the journey!
Hi BFG Steve, we love your name!!! Crusoe says hi, today he has been swimming in a huge waterfall it’s been an epic morning. More about that next week!!! Thanks for watching friend. 👍🙏😊
Great video. Been there a few times myself in my car. Speaking to the locals a lot of them getting pissed off with people turning up in vans/motor homes clogging up roads and not spending any money in hotels etc. leaving human excrement on the side of the road! Quite understandable really but I guess people are still buying food etc from the local shops? It Was interesting to speak to the locals.
Hey Arup! Oh it’s such an amazing trip. Not sure what you’re driving but we’re pretty confident you’ll be ok! There might be a couple of roads to avoid but they’re clearly signposted. Have a great trip!
I was a little disappointed but excited when I first saw a puffins, because you always see close up pictures of them. I thought they’d be the size of a large parrot. So me too

Some points, I could hear Crusoe's voice of the future "let's do it!"
Loving your channel and videos! my husband and I were in Scotland 2 years ago on our honeymoon so we're living through you at the moment!
Hi Zoe, great to hear from you. What a great honeymoon destination Scotland is, well done!! Thanks for tuning in!, great to have you travelling with us! 😀😎👍
What places do you visited ?
Nice van too 👍 We’re doing the perimeter of England in 8 weeks time 🤪🤟🙏🤞🏻
For future, can you tell me where the road is at 14:50, seen it on plenty of programs but don’t know where it is?????

Smoo cave - 24:10 Well, that´s my kind of an indoorpool. That`s amazing!!

Thanks so much for sharing all this Stephanie, wonderful to read and we really appreciate it.

Great video guys I’m so lucky I live in gods country

Agree with your choice of roads. Many people miss out the B869, it’s a big mistake.
Hi Graham, great tip, we will certainly be looking to return north and so your tip B869 will be noted, watch this space. Thanks for your support! 🙏
John O’Groats is the most Northerly ‘Populated village’ , on the UK mainland. Dunnet Head is the most Northerly point.
