The best thing about Hayden Christensen's performance is not Anakin showing his good or evil side. It's his huge internal conflict that's so well portrayed. For me, anyway.
And it’s always so crazy and sad how people that relentlessly hate the prequels and his performance try to attack that aspect of it. Whenever someone complains to me that he’s “whinny,” I roll my eyes and know that they just don’t understand it. You’ve got this hormonal teenager that’s supposed to basically be the greatest Jedi to ever live having this major internal conflict between good and evil. Born a slave, desperately seeking the father he never had until Qui-gon who freaking gets killed, that then gets manipulated by an evil mastermind who basically becomes his fake father figure. I don’t see how anyone could have done a better job at portraying that then Hayden did. And as you said, that internal conflict is so well done and one of my favorite parts of Star Wars.

Like after he killed the younglings and he’s standing on the bridge, crying but with a dead face. He regretted what he had done, but knew he was to far gone to change anything about it. Hayden’s facial expressions were powerful.

Super cool you guys noticed that if Qui Gon was alive Anakin wouldn’t have turned. Qui Gon was the last of what really was a true jedi and perfect father Anakin needed. Something to notice that Qui Gon’s fight with Mail in episode 1 the music is called “Dual of the Fates” implying the outcome of that fight determines the fate of Anakin Skywalker
Not just Anakin’s fate, it’s so much more-the fate of the Republic, the Jedi, the Sith, and the entire Galaxy. That one duel, everything was on the line.

Need a what if scenario where Qui Gon wins against Maul
The duel between snakin and obiwan was trained for by both actors for many hours and it was grueling training. The reason why they feel like they are so in sync is because of that. The speed is also unmodified that is just how fast they are striking with their lightsabers.
I don’t remember where but I saw in a interview that they used actual metal polls as the lightsabers and they literally had a dude with a stack of replacement “lightsabers” cause they kept on destroying the once they had during the shootings with how they were smacking things.
‘Hours’? That fight took DAYS to film and Hayden did years of lightsaber choreography for his roles over the franchise.
@@harrymillar4193 Yeah I know this, but I was using many hours as a definition of time. There are still many hours in a few days. We both know that Hayden and Ewan trained together for so long just for this one lightsaber battle that they basically became in sync.The fact that both of them are so well skilled they can move their lightsaber that fast is insane.

Hayden Christensen didn't get much love when this movie released but thankfully he's getting the love he deserved for so long now with the two Disney shows that released. Which you two could check out whenever.
I think all the kids who grew up during the prequels and clone wars era loved hayden from day 1. Only people who hated him were the grown manchild fans. Most toxic people thus far

@@jasonhearn5818 I do understand people do that to actors when it is the character that they do not like, they are playing a role, and the movie is directed and written by someone else. I do not like you Anakin or Jar Jar Binks in Episode I, the problem is not Jake Lloyd or Ahmed Best who plays them it is the writing and the directing that is the problem, in this case, George Lucas did both. I did not like the character but not because the actors mad a bad job, I believe they delivered what they were asked for by the dei I think it is Gorge Lucas that in large part the one you should critique if you do not like the prequels.
It is sometimes the actor's fault that it is badly acted and it is not a fit for that part. But even then I would if the role not fit them part blame the makers of the movie that cast them.
I do believe you can critique actors for taking some role like if the subject matter is very questionable or known things that are problematic about the maker of the movie. That is especially the case with established actors that clearly do not need the money .

@@slothassasin1055 Yes, i was about 11 when i first started watching Star Wars and fell in love with it. And i watched it 1-6 cause i wouldn't know to start with the 4th movie. As a kid i didn't see much issue with any of the characters. It was later i saw things differently and also got influenced by the masses to hate on Anakin. And Jar Jar. And though Anakin and the prequels got some cringe worthy moments, they're not that bad.
I think about it this way now. Anakin is so detestable in the 2nd and 3rd movie because these movies show us the worst of him. In those movies we see him go through the worst that could happen to him. Ofc he would be awful himself. Which is one of the many reasons i love the Clone Wars series. There we get to see him as the amazing guy Obi Wan told Luke that his father was.
Something I found to be well done was the emotion Hayden Christiansen brings during Anakin's fall to the dark side. It's a very "This isn't what I wanted..." kind of vibe.
The older I get the more I appreciate Hayden’s performance, especially how young he was.

40:40 That is absolutely correct. In fact that’s why the Darth Maul/Qui Gon duel in Episode 1 is called “Duel of the Fates.” Anakin’s fate was sealed when Qui Gon died and wasn’t around to guide Anakin. That fight was ultimately about which path Anakin’s life would take.
Wrong. the track wasn't even written for that part of the film. Lucas just moved some cues there after, during editing.
So we assume in this scenario that Palpatine's manipulation would have failed anyway and Qui-Gon would have seen and stopped it?

And that means palpatine would have been completely incapable of enacting that plan and start the clone war to kill the Jedi. He merely waited because he wanted Anakin on his side but he didn't need him.

I see this film like a greek tragedy, in which the character cannot escape their fate, no matter how hard they tried to steer away. Oedipus is great example

Anakin is very obvious with his religious story mirroring of the fallen angel lucifer. I am not very religious but it's practically shoved in your face and there was even a scene in Anakin's battle with Obi where they set up a shot to perfectly mirror the famous lucifer painting of him covering his face and crying.

Another interesting example: the shot of Obi-Wan and Anakin fighting with the lava behind them (where they're grabbing onto each other) is an almost perfect recreation of "Jacob Wrestling with the Angel" by Gustave Dore.

I saw this movie when it came out. And I've recommended it to so many people since then. And yet, outside of people online, I still don't know anybody else who's watched it. It's honestly the perfect example of the "hidden gem." Every actor is perfectly cast. Every character is interesting. It's so damn entertaining that it makes you mad at other movies for not trying harder.

You nailed it at the end with qui gon. That's why the music when he fought maul was called the duel of fates. It was the fate of anakin.
that's wrong. the piece was titled and made for the end credits and originally had nothing to do with that duel but Lucas used some cues for it in the climax when he edited the movie.

A worthy end to the prequel trilogy

I think Dave Feloni also said in an interview, that if Qui Gonn hadn't been killed, Anakin wouldn't have turned to the dark side. And that the music playing, while Qui Gonn fights Darth Maul, is named Duel of The Fates for that reason. Because all the Fates of the Galaxy were at stake in that fight.
Anakin skywalker is important because it gives people hope and gives people that have had similar experiences in their lives to relate to
Anakin shows that there will always be Redemption granted within Logical Reason, Anakin was always a Good Person at heart He was just troubled & the only person to Guide him took advantage of that & Manipulated Him.

George Lucas showed that Padme and Anakin have some sort of link in the Force. Even though Padme isn't a Force-user, she's still sensitive to it. There are several shots of them exchanging glances over great distances and being in the same emotional state at the same time.
Padme dies because while she was going through the pain of childbirth, she was also suffering the pain of Anakin getting the Vader suit surgically grafted onto him. And as Padme takes her last breath, Darth Vader takes his first. So The Emperor was telling the truth in a sense when he told Vader he killed Padme.
I’ve also heard that Palpatine was putting these nightmares into Anakins mind and was using the force to weaken/kill padme cuz she’s too much a distraction for him. This is an interesting interpretation tho too
I never understood why people had an issue with it. The droids say she's completely healthy and they can't explain why she's dying. It was obvious to me at the time that her death was due to the Force, literal space magic that medical droids wouldn't have a clue how to comprehend, much less detect.

@@radioactivetaco9579 It's not a fan theory, it was canon before Disney took over, remember, the way George tells these stories are very subtle, he's not going to put stuff in your face, there's many political, spiritual and metaphysical components to these movies that most people didn't understand because it's too much to cover in so little time. But the major clue was the story of Darth Plaguise The Wise, remmber what Palpatine told Anakin, Palpatine used the dark side of the force and their connection to drain Padme's life force and give it to Anakin because the truth is, Anakin was dying on that table, he had been burnt to a crisp and in actuallity, both him and Padme had died, but when Padme took her last breath, Vader took his first, that was Palpatine siphening her life force energy into his.

Qui-Gon was the father figure. Obi was the brother, but what Anakin needed was a father. So you're both right if he didn't die in the duel of the fates then Anakin's fate would be different. Also, Qui-Gon was probably the only jedi who understood that the jedi has lost their way- he would have taught Anakin better ideals that didn't restrict him, which makes him a more well-rounded person and not evil. I’m really impressed and it was cool to see how well you guys understood these movies. There’s so much subtle stuff that you guys picked up on, like Qui-Gon being the father figure that Anakin needed, where as Obi-Wan ended up being more of a brother. That absence of a father figure led to him being so attached to his mother and then Padme, and his fear of losing them. All of that all ties in to Episode 6 too, where it’s his love for his son that saves the galaxy

In this universe, when a droid does not get memory wiped every so often, they start to think differently. Outside of their original programming. R2 has NEVER been wiped and he is a much older droid so he has developed a human-like personality and thinking like the "good guys" he's always been with.
R2 did get wiped no? At the end of this movie.

Annnd I always had a problem with that, because it makes sense to wipe both their minds as plotholes go it should be easy to not make them when you have the future already set. 3PO not knowing anyone in the OT makes sense... it didn't for 2/3 of this trilogy especially us learning he was made by Darth freaking Vader! Then the memory wipe line happens cool all is now forgiven, but why not wipe R2? He just keeps going with 3PO(which we recently learned R2 has his memories backed up😮) and ends up with the KIDS of Anakin the entire rest of the time and never says a damn thing? Like R2 was there as Lord Vader uses his iconic force choke for the 1st time and it's against Leia and Luke's mother! He don't ever mention any of this shit during all the time with Leia? I say her more so because he's with her far longer, the OT when he 1st meets Luke till Return is 4yr span total according to Wookiepedia and 19yrs with Leia as they were assigned under Bail Organa after this film hence why he was giving the instructions for them. Makes no sense why R2 never mentions a single thing and we know he's always been a personality of his own who speaks his mind but he acts like absolutely everyone is new to him in the OT. Ofc he should've acted like that using real world logic, but going back to canon logic having threepio mind wiped and not his seems an unnecessary decision that creates a potentially huge plothole. He KNOWS who "Lord/Darth Vader is says nothing ever, doesn't act like he know Ben, Yoda, I mean no "Threepio that's your creator!, Luke that's your daddy!, also your mom's killer! Man we had actually YEARS over a decade of adventures I helped him so much and saved his life so many times you can damn near say I'm the reason he's accomplished what he has today!"😂😂😂
I know I know that's what happens when you're over thinking it, but it doesn't make me wrong! And that's also the problems with doing prequels it usually always causes a plothole somewhere. Literally changing the line from "have the protocol droids' mind wiped" to "have the droid's minds wiped" fixes everything I said previously...
I was going to mention this along with the fact that Anakin tinkered with R2 quite a bit, hence the "No loose wire jokes" line.
Good/sad thing about it is that 3P0 is the lucky one with the memory wipe. Had he kept his memory, he would've blabbed to Leia about her true parents and Anakin's downfall.
Fun fact: when Obi Wan was telling Padme about Anakin killing the younglings, the reason he covers his face was because he kept laughing whenever he was saying that line. Ewan McGregor really said "Fuck them kids"

I saw this when it came out in 2005. I was 12. My dad took me and I remember knowing the plot but the way it was portrayed had me hooked immediately.
A jedi is not meant to be emotionless but not be a slave to those emotions
This is easily the best in the prequel trilogy. It has some pretty great battles, especially the final one. It definitely has a darker tone. And it’s great seeing how Anakin became Darth Vader.
Fun fact, and something I didn’t think about/notice till just now. The fight between Shin and Sabine in the first episode of Ahsoka was the first live action lightsaber fight between 2 women. Also, I never felt there was anything romantically going on between Ezra and Sabine, besides Ezra flirting with her when he first met her. That’s why I’m in the Sabine and Shin shipping camp, which would also be the first gay/lesbian couple on screen in star wars, and makes sense for those 2 characters, cause they’re both not very “girly”, and if Thrawn ends up killing Baylan for actually not killing Ahsoka off, Shin could very likely join Sabine and Ezra to get revenge on Thrawn, and/or continue Baylan’s cause in some way, depending on what that ends up being. And Sabine and Shin both have that rebelish, stubborn, and dark tendency nature, the latter Shin more than Sabine of course, so I think they could compliment each other well, learning a lot together and from each other. I don’t know if Dave would go there, but I’d love to see it, not for the sake of representation at all, which I don’t care about, but because it could actually make sense for the characters and the story.
The thing i love about Anakin's fall is that his motives are perfectly reasonable. He didnt turn for power, but for love.
A lot of like to believe we wouldn't do the same and many of us would not. But most people would do anything for love. Especially if you grew up like Anakin
He did it at first for love but in the end the dark side corrupted him into choosing power over love, which is the greatest tragedy

Perfectly said, I've had to explain this to so many people and they don't get it.
The transformation from clone troopers to storm troopers actually happens over time. The clones are phased out and regular Galactic empire citizens take their place as stormtroopers.
Watching this over always makes my eyes watery… it’s the dust in the air I swear!🤧 Always great to see the reaction of new fans to this film.🤙🏼
You guys need to watch the Clone Wars, Palpatine's plans run much deeper than you think. It wasn't just about getting Anakin, it was about turning the galaxy agaisnt the Jedi and getting his enemies to take each other out.

It's also speculated that his(palpatine) ultimate goal was to control the galaxy and its resources to unite it as once for to could fight off the yuuzhan vong. From canon, it appears vong scouts have been found prior to or during the clone wars. In canon, Palpatine has also met with Thrawn already and gave him the permission to start and control another branch of the military to combat the vong when the time comes.
Also Obiwan knew about Anakin and Padme 's marriage
He basically told him about him being in love and to make sure he understands his duty as a Jedi in the clone wars cartoon
It adds to obiwan's sight at seeing Anakin killing Jedi on the holocron and hin crying when he was yelling at Darth Vader at the end of their duel

@xhadbailey7038 - Yeah, I would advise skipping the Obi Wan series. That series is almost as insulting as the last season of GoT.
You guys need to watch all 6 seasons of the clone wars animated show. It goes deeper into the relationships like Padme, Anakan, obi wan and even yoda and how the Jedi formed close bonds with the clones who get mind controlled to kill their friends. Then re watch this movie. It adds so much to the story!
As an old school Star Wars head, it's so cool to get to see young people discover it. Thanks for sharing this.
Whenever I see the fight between Sidious and Yoda, I always get chills. Especially that wide shot when the platform rises and they are fighting.
Hands down, this is my favorite Star Wars movie. It's always tied with The Empire Strikes Back from time to time, but this one holds a special place in my heart. It was when me and my brother officially agreed, "Yeah Star Wars is awesome, screw what anyone says." People in our school looked at Star Wars as "geeky" or "nerdy" and anyone who likes that is lame. We didn't care. Then after watching the prequels growing up we found the Original Trilogy and man, that was a rollercoaster. Im thankful for those times.
I was in a similar situation growing up. I was teased and made fun of a lot in middle school for liking Star Wars. And now, liking it is trendy lol. I consider myself a Star Wars hipster.
Only thing Padme could've said is that she'd rather die than see him join the dark side. I guess it's gonna happen anyways.
This is actually my favorite episode.
It’s always great to see ppl watching these movies for the first time. For me and most other Star Wars fans we grew up with it and it’s honestly hard to judge these movies without biases. But seeing grown up ppl watch it and get it like they read interpretations of the movie is cool to see.
I love the climactic lightsaber duel on Mustafar between Anakin and Obi-Wan. The music, the fight choreography, the special effects and the audio design were also top notch and hold up really well. It's supremely more tense than any of the other lightsaber duels. Also, the fight choreography between Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor is at real time. Not at all slowed down or sped up. They just got so good during rehearsals for the lightsaber duel, that they kept the speed of the movements in real time.
Now you know our pain. On a brighter note though, Yoda vs Palpatine was a duel for the ages. The music made it even more hype.
It’s such a great ending and it had the best dialogue out of the prequels. I’m just sad George cut one of the best lines out of the movie. The scene where Obi Wan talks with Padme had a lot more. I don’t remember it exactly, but it amounted to him admitting he’s known for a very long time. While it went against everything he was trained in and was taught to believe, what Padme did for Anakin on an emotional level and the level of stability and happiness she brought him, he was content to keep looking the other way. Which goes to show how right Padme was to trust in Obi Wan should they need to lean on someone for help - he would have gone as far as he could for both of them.
If you wanna know more about how sidious controlled the clones and how long he was grooming anakin I highly recomend you watch clone wars. Plus the ending is so so good I think it's some of my favourite star wars media.

I know what Anakin was born as, but he also didn't remain a 8-year-old child forever either now did he? He entered the Order at around that age which was considered *very* rare according to Obi-Wan which is *all the more* reason why he should've been a lot more receptive enough to pay attention to those who knew more AND did more than him while in the Jedi Order instead of being so arrogant, power-hungry and overly susceptible to his more negative/darker emotions.

And even though they had their flaws, Anakin wasn't exactly "perfect" nor "innocent" himself and had already become even more of a headache for the Jedi than the Sith at this point in time plus the fact that *he* was the cause of their downfall and near extinction just pretty much sealed his fate in the absolute *worst* way imaginable as well.

The way I see it, Anakin is very good at compartmenting his feelings. Think of it like when you know what you’re about to do is wrong, but you’ve already committed to doing it. So you actively don’t think about the consequences. In this case Anakin has been hardened by three years of war and has decades of Jedi training that taught him how to compartment his feelings.

Anikan was viewed the wrong way. Most everyone was either completely on his side, or against him. But ultimately, both palpatine and the council used him and didn’t even attempt to help him when it was obvious that he was having mental issues. Even though he didn’t open up to the council, all of them especially yoda are perfectly capable of seeing into the mind of one of their own.
The council actually couldn't completely because Palpatine was putting that dark side shroud over them, it's why they didn't know Anakin and Padme were together, they could only sense his strong negative emotions like his fear

Order 66 is so much more emotional after growing up with the Clone Wars from 2008 to the final Season from 2021. Many of the Clone Commanders we see gunning down their Jedi Generals are actually characters from the show for example Commander Gree who ends up getting killed by Yoda. Not to mention many of the Jedi as well who were really backgrounded characters in the films but made into actually characters in novels, comics, and The Clone Wars tv series. The Jedi master who was shot down by his fellow Clones and crashed is Plo Koon a really beloved character who was so cool in Clone Wars and is actually the shows creators favourite Jedi so he special attention.
The expanded Universe does go deeper into how the Clones were able to just turn on the Jedi like that after 3 years of servicing with them. There's two versions the old extended universe and the Canon. The Old EU explained that the Clones already knew about Order 66 with many even regretting there actions while most Clones were okay with going along with it with some Clones even down right hating the Jedi as many had bad experiences with just awful Jedi Leadership. There's even examples of Clones who went against Order 66 and tried to save Jedi.
In the canon highlighted in The Clone Wars TV Series the Clones had Inhibitor chip implanted at birth. These would trigger at an order and in the case of Order 66 force the Clones to turn on there Jedi Generals basically brainwashing losing all train of thought beyond "Kill the Jedi". After a while the events wore off and many Clones were faced with what the done. There was still clones who were fine with it as they actually believed that the Jedi went against the Republic and others who were starting to question what happened. But not long after Order 66 the Stormtrooper program came into effect and the new Imperial leadership started to see Clones as tools of war rather than living humanoids. New enlisted humans started to join the Stormtrooper program and the Clones were offered the course of retiring with pay with many staying on to Train Stormtroopers. While some Clones fought against the Empire trying to help there Clone Brothers and that's all we really know, Bad Batch does into this so I do recommend watching that for more insight along with Clone Wars.
I personally prefer the Inhibitor chip but I know there's people who prefer the idea that the Clones always knew and just went through with it. The video game *Battlefront 2* from 2005 actually covers this story showing the events of Revenge of the Sith from the pov of a Clone and after when the Empire came to the power and those same Clones become the first Stormtroopers. This came out in 2005 so before the Inhibitor chips were introduced in The Clone Wars TV series. So the game features the Clones actually know that they'll have to kill the Jedi one day.

The Clone Wars neutered the impact of the betrayal by taking the decision out of the hands of the clones. It was better as originally designed which was a constitutional ordered invoked by the Chancellor that the Clones would be compelled to obey but not forced to obey...it became their decision to turn on the Jedi and made them the secondary antagonists they were mean to be.
But the Clone Wars show couldn't abide by their heroes being willfully evil, no sir. Had to hedge the responsibility because the show had no guts.

PS - Once you understand the difference between ray shields and deflector shields in the Star Wars universe, the lightsabers make a lot more sense. A deflector shield is angled to the direction of flight to keep solid objects (meteorites, debris, and other solid objects) from damaging the ship. But a ship that has ray shields up does NOT deflect solid matter... it can repel energy blasts, yet other ships and/or solid objects can pass right through them and dock.
With Gungan ray shields, we watched energy weapons fire bounce off, but the droids could walk right through. We've likewise seen tie fighters launch from ships that have shields up. And we've seen (in this film) Anakin and Obi Wan land in a ship's hangar that had shields up during a battle.
So a lightsaber relies on a ray shield shaped like a 'blade' to contain the plasma within. This is why lightsabers can repel other lightsabers as well as deflect fire from energy weapons. But solid matter (ie: an opponents arm) will pass through the outer shield and be severed by the incredibly hot plasma within. So energy will bounce off a lightsaber's projected shield, but matter will pass through and be obliterated.
I'm actually surprised that nobody in the Star Wars universe wears some form of body-worn personal energy shields to protect against all the energy-based weapons.

13:10 The tragedy of Darth Plageuis is the story of Palpatine killing his master in order to gain unlimited dark side power. In the dark side/sith order there is a rule of two. This means that there may only be one master sith and one apprentice. In episode one, obi wan slays Darth maul, leaving palpatine without an apprentice. Knowing anakin was the “chosen one” made palpatine crazy. He knew he had to go through a number of Sith Lords to eventually turn anakin to the dark side. He purposely had anakin kill Dooku as a way of getting closer to anakin. He was the one who used anakin as a pawn to uproot the Jedi order and he knew that the Jedi council was too smart and would try to make anakin commit treason.
I agree with your thoughts on Qui-Gon at the end. He needed a father figure in his life and while Obiwan cared about him, he just wasn't that, and Palpatine exploited it.
Hence the name of the song that went along with the Darth Maul Duel "Duel of the Fates". Meaning who ever won that battle held the fate of Anakin in their hands. Qui-Gon would have been the figure he needed. That would have shifted the balance towards the Jedi.
Fun fact the ship we see Obi Wan and Yoda meet up with Bail Organa after Order 66 along with R2D2 and C3PO aboard at the end is the Tantive IV the same ship Leia was onboard in the opening of A New Hope. We also see a young Raymus Antilles who is told by Bail Organa to wipe C3PO's memory. Raymus Antilles was the Captain of the Tantive IV and the Rebel physically choked by Darth Vader in the opening of A New Hope when he boarded the Tantive IV looking for the Death Star plans. So this is a very important ship in Star Wars, also showed up in Clone Wars for fans of that show.

I like your insight into Qui-Gon's role. Qui-Gon was also Dooku's former padawan, and Palpatine knew he was the anchor. I think Palpatine ordered Darth Maul to be sure Qui-Gon died, so that 1) Anakin would not have him to raise him like you mention, and 2) Dooku would no longer have Qui-Gon as a conscience. Dooku makes a comment to that effect when talking to Obi-Wan on Geonosis in Attack of the Clones. Dooku knew Darth Sidious was behind everything, and while Dooku didn't like how the Senate worked or how the Jedi went along with it, he didn't want to destroy everything and hand the galaxy over to the Sith. Qui-Gon was Dooku's last link to the light, and losing him left him appealing to Obi-Wan for help. Obi-Wan didn't have the connection that Qui-Gon had, and simply refused him out of turn. Remember that Palpatine had foreseen most of what happened, and knew it would ultimately lead to Anakin's corruption, removing the last threat to his rise to become emperor. As you saw in episodes IV-VI, Palpatine didn't foresee Anakin's child surviving, nor Luke being able to change him back.
Something I found neat that I learned from other people discussing it is that Sidious made his lightsaber with expensive and flashy materials to spite the Jedi since their lightsabers are meant to show some form of humility and are usually simple
I also thought that Qui-Gon was the only person (at least of the Jedi) who would have kept Anakin from turning to the Dark Side.

Heres something to consider. Padmé was never was concerned that she might die. She never expressed a fear of dying or not living to see their children. And whenever any characters brought up her potential death Anakin said things like “I can’t live without her” “I won’t lose you the way I lost my mother.” His desire to save her was about him and his wants, not hers. If he’d ever once considered what she wanted he’d know she’d never want him to do terrible things and that she’d never be with him if she knew he’d done them.

The fact that you can hear the ''Across the Stars'' Melody when Padme lands on Mustafar, always gets me close to tearing up (you can hear it at 30:27 in this video) . Not just because it is my favorite SW soundtrack. Also because how the theme played in sad but also happy moments of their lovestory. It is always so bittersweet to listen to it.

Its even more tragic when you learn that the clones had no choice. In the Clone Wars cartoon, you learn they have chips in their brains that force them to do things. Order 66 is where the chips made the clones kill the jedi.
(I apologise for the length of my message, but there’s really a lot to unpack at the end of this trilogy. Bare with me pls, or go to the end of the comment to read an EXTREME summary of it. I loved your reactions to the movies, you two have a beautiful energy ❤)
The thing about Anakin and his relationship with the Council and the Jedi order in general is that the Jedi were so afraid of Anakin’s future that they always restricted him. While he was still a young Padawan, he showed how much more powerful he was than the other students and also his teachers. But, instead of encouraging him and helping him grow, they restricted him and didn’t let him develop his abilities to the fullest, while also at the same time telling him that he was the Chosen One. Big responsibility, and yet they didn’t let him develop the power to hold upon that responsibility. For the whole time the Clone Wars have raged on, Anakin proved himself to be not only a great warrior, but a true Jedi willing to fight for the cause. And yet we arrive in episode 3 and Windu (just as the rest of the Council) still don’t trust him. He then is granted the chance to sit in the Council, but not the rank of master, something that is f*cked up for many reasons that I’ll explain later.
Not only that, but his emotions had never been valued by anyone. When he was struggling because he had visions of his mother dying and calling for him to help her, he tried multiple times to convince the Council (Obi-Wan included) to let him go save her, but since Tatooine is outside the Republic’s domain, they never let him go. This shows how twisted by the dark side they were: caring more about politics rather than saving other living beings. Then, when Anakin finally disobeyed the Council’s and Obi-Wan’s orders and went to save his mom, it was already too late. Then all the pent up rage and frustration he had just exploded, like a bottle of coke if you shake it too much without letting it open. Massacre happened because the Jedi were too scared of the future and also to lose their influence over the politics of the Republic. Anakin is emotionally scarred because he not only blames the Council and also rightfully Obi-Wan, but he also blames himself (a due note here is that primarily Obi-Wan has always put the Council’s orders above the will of the Force, which Qui-Gonn never did, and would you look at that, Qui-Gonn was never admitted into the Council, what a coincidence, right? Right?), because he wasn’t powerful enough to save her. This trauma and the promise he made of never letting that happening again leads us to episode 3, when yet again he starts having visions of the death of the only person other than Palpatine that had showed him care and faith (of course, the Jedi’s behaviour also made it easier for Palpatine to manipulate Anakin’s mind ever since he was a child, so that’s another), and of course he’s not gonna let it happen again. The fact that he goes to ask Yoda’s help is a testament to his good faith, to the fact that he still believes in the cause and he isn’t just gonna drop it all for the dark side. But what does Yoda do? Yet again he doesn’t value the emotions he has and tells him “Oh, you’re afraid to lose someone you care about? Have you thought about not caring?”, which is pointless to say a very sh*tty advice to give to a young man who is clearly going through a huge turmoil. Then Palpatine uses the occasion to tell his master’s story of how he could give life and keep the ones he loved from dying and Anakin’s turning was basically a guarantee at that point.
Regarding the rank of Master, it was stated by the code that whoever sat in the Council should’ve had the rank of Master. So, to not grant it was basically breaking the Jedi code, something that the Council was so willing to follow when they decided that Anakin was too old to be trained. So they essentially bent the code to their bidding. Not only that, but Anakin wanted the rank because the masters kept a great portion of knowledge on the Force hidden, accessible only to them, and he thought that he could find what he needed to save Padme in that hidden knowledge. There were essentially two reasons for the Council to not grant Anakin that rank: the first being that Anakin saw through them like Qui-Gonn did, and he knew they were basically full of sh*t, the second reason being that Anakin’s padawan (each Jedi knight gets a young padawan for them to turn into a Jedi knight, then they get the rank of master) Ahsoka left the Order before becoming a full Jedi knight, because the Council essentially betrayed her. So the Council is essentially the reason why Anakin apparently could not be granted the rank of master, even though he deserved it (the ones who watched The Clone Wars animated series know why). The Jedi at that point only cared about power and politics, which is why they took part in the Clone Wars.
Finally we get to Anakin vs Obi-Wan, another instance where Obi-Wan was able to f*ck everything up again by: revealing himself at the worst possible moment, judging Anakin without listening to him, and basically being so fixated to kill him that he didn’t even try to turn him back to the light. As Vince said, Anakin at that point was still redeemable, and we see it because he cries on Mustafar, disgusted by what he did, feeling like he had no escape, no other way to save his wife. He didn’t kill the children because he liked to do it or because of some weird worship to his master, but because the more evil things you do, the more in tune you are with the dark side, the more power you gain, the more chances you have of obtaining the knowledge Plagueis had. Dooku never had the yellow Sith eyes because he never did such evil deeds, but Anakin pushed his conscience to the limits and beyond in order to have a small chance to save his wife and child. And, by the time Obi-Wan showed up, the dark side had clouded his mind so much that he only saw red and lashed out on the love of his life.
To summarise all of this: Obi-Wan was a crappy teacher, the Council was corrupt and power-hungry, Anakin was emotionally scarred and traumatised, his feelings had never been valued, he was never respected and he felt he had no hope, if Qui-Gonn lived we wouldn’t have a Darth Vader, and Anakin is a tragic hero. Probably one of the best that have ever been written.
That look on Yoda's face when he catches Sidious' force lightning is one of my favorite parts of the movie. I can't even describe it... The look he had just says "I am more powerful than you think". RIP Master Yoda.
Yoda was the strongest Force User in the saga once Anakin couldn't get to his potential due to injuries. He outclasses Sidious the entire duel.

I pisses me off soo many people have Hayden soo much hate for these movies. I have always liked these movies, I thought they were extremely underrated especially Revenge of the Sith. You guys should watch the animated series Clone Wars. It gives a lot more detail into the stories of literally everyone.
This has always been my point to make, as well. Hayden did a superb job portraying an extremely powerful, yet awkward teen/young adult prodigy. Most of us that have lived through the raging hormone years can attest to the cringe and dorkiness that time in our lives brings forth to the world. Personally, I was a mess, and Anakin had it worse than most of us with that "Chosen One" bullsh!t hanging over his head. Example: Even both ACTORS playing Anakin picked up hate for playing "The Chosen One".

The whole story of Anakin and Darth Vader, is that no matter what happens in life and what choices we make, there’s always a way to be redeemed
Being a Jedi doesn't require to be emotionless, although it does happen, it requires that you don't allow your emotions to blind you and your judgement also the stormtroopers were enlisted civilians, the clones stopped being used during the empire

Obi-Wan tried his best but remember he only became a mster after Qui-Gon-Jinn died, he wasnt fully trained to pick up a padawan.

Obi-Wan was also seen more like a brother and a friend than a possible father figure. It's why imo Anakin couldn't really respect Obi-Wan's authority at times and why he has this complex where he thinks Obi-Wan is constantly holding him back or that he's jealous of Anakin. It's easy to fall into that kind of mindset with a rival. With Qui-Gon I don't think that would've been a problem at all.

There is a popular theory among the star wars community that I agree with, that Sideous was not actually lying when he said to Anakin that he killed padme in his anger. That Anakin only survived because he inadvertantly used the force to take padme's life force and survive, hence why they couldn't figure out why she died.
That theory doesn't have enough evidence for it to be true

What Sideous said could be explained away 10 different ways, because he constantly lies and tells mistruths.
This is one of the only theories though that explains why padme died, Anakin barely did shit to her. All he did was choke her, so if she survived that breathing there should have been no lasting damage.
Hell we get TOLD there is no medical reason for her to die. And even if you don't want to live you can't just spontaneously die when you feel like it with 0 medical issues at all. (Actually technically this is incorrect, there is something called broken heart syndrome, but that presents differently to how she passed)
Also this theory would also BE Anakin using the dark side to drain padme, just inadvertently as a final ditch effort to survive.

Yoda and Palpatine's fight in the Senate that destroys it is symbolic of the death of the Senate and rise of the Empire.
The Chancellor was waiting for two things: Anakin to turn to the Darkside, but also, and more importantly, to slowly drain enough power away from the Senate, to declare himself The Emperor.
Remember, at the beginning the Chancellor as a position wasn’t all powerful. The Chancellor was just the head of the Senate. He had to use the war to get the emergency powers to spin into declaring himself The Emperor.
The scar on Anakin's head doesn't occur until the Obi Wan Kenobi series which is AWESOME

This is easily my absolute favorite of the prequel trilogy, and tying for second with "The Empire Strikes Back" as my second favorite overall of all 11(originals, prequels, Rogue One, Solo, and sequels)the movies.
Great performance by Hayden Christensen in this movie as Anakin Skywalker. And especially once we get his transformation into Darth Vader.
The Mustafar scene from the lightsaber fight between Anakin/Vader and Obi-Wan to Obi-Wan's "you were the Chosen One" monolog...fantastically done by Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen.
We find out here that Padmè is now pregnant with Luke and Leia. And we see how they are separated until they meet in "Star Wars: A New Hope".
So happy to have finally seen your reactions for the prequel trilogy. I do highly recommend you two checking out the "Clone Wars" animated series on Disney+. Or at least, the "Clone Wars" animated movie.

So one thing I really wish the movie did was convey time. And heres what I mean by that. In the novelization of this movie its able to explain that the events from the battle of Corescant to Anakin fighting on Mustafar literally happens within a 3 day time period.
Like alot of people say stuff along the lines that "Anakin was too guliable, he shouldnt have let Sidious manipulate him like that". The movie does not do a good enough job showing the audience that over those 3 days Anakin got no sleep, he was so tormented by his dreams that he was scared to fall asleep. I dont know about you but my brain starts to unravel pretty quickly w/out sleep. Then add on the fact there's a war, he's being pulled in so many directions by the jedi and Palpetine/Sidious, then to top it off he is recieving dreams about losing the only person he "truly" loves for good (just like w/ his mother and he vowed that would never happen again). Bro was going to the restricted section in the jedi library night after night trying to find an answer to save Padme and when he reached the point of losing all hope here comes a man who says "I have the answers to all your problems, I can show you how to fix it". Anakin was reaching for a lifeline and Sidious gave him that.
The clone wars themselves lasted for like 3 years. So imagine being a jedi. Youve fought side by side w/ these clones for 3 years. Youve grown to love them and care for them. And all of a sudden they turn on you (which the reason why is explored in the clone wars animated show, so highly recommend yall react to that as well).
*Also its been theorized and pretty well excepted that Palpetine was actually the one sending the "visions" to Anakin about Padme dying in childbirth. Palpetine knew Anakin was vunerable to seeing those visions because Anakin told Palpetine in confidence everything that occured to him in ep 2 including him having the premonitions of his mothers death. Its not hard to see Palpetine using that knowledge for his own personal gain. And side note just for you guys in terms of lore, Darth Plaguies was Sidious's master and Sidious was the one who killed him in his sleep (when hes telling the story you can almost see a look of euphoria in Palpetines eyes as he relives the story when he tells Anakin).
Facts. There were only 3 people in Anakin's life who truly believed in him: His mom, Qui-Gon, and Palpatine. After Qui-Gon and his Mom's deaths, Palpatine was the only one left who would constantly tell Anakin that he could be greater than he currently was, while the rest of the Jedi order told him to hang back and slow down. The Jedi feared that Anakin would reach a power level so great he would be more powerful than them, so they held him back. Conversely, Palpatine always pushed Anakin to always be greater. We of course learn that Palpatine had ulterior motives in regards to Anakin ( obviously), but from Anakin's point of view, he got nothing but support from Palpatine, while he got nothing but roadblocks and timeouts from the Jedi Order.
So basically he grows up with no father. Then Qui-Gon shows up, and becomes the closest to a father he had ever experienced at that point, and but then gets killed. Palpatine shows up, and portrays the same positive support that Qui-Gon gave him, which probably reminded him of Qui-Gon. Every chance Palpatine could get, he would always praise Anakin or compliment him, and tell him he will be the best Jedi there ever was. Nothing but praises, nothing but support, nothing but love, at least how Anakin probably perceived it. Meanwhile Obi-Wan, sat in the middle. He treated Anakin like his little brother, which was probably fine, but like the brother who was never trusted with anything. But the Jedi Order treated Anakin like Cinderella, undermining him when they could, grounding him when they could, gas lighting him, holding him back....never truly allowing Anakin to reach his full potential....because they were afraid of it.
So when shit finally hit the fan, and Anakin had to make a choice between good and evil, the light side or dark side, the Jedi or the Senate, etc.....he ends up picking Palpatine. Because for Anakin, it probably wasn't about good or bad, light or dark, Jedi or Sith. It was a choice between the people who never accepted him as he truly was, and all his potential (Jedi Order); Or choosing the only person left that believed and supported him the way his Mom always did, the way Qui-Gon did, and that was Palpatine. So it's no surprise he ended up following Palpatine, because at the time it seemed Palpatine was the only who who had his best interest in mind. We later learn that Palpatine manipulated Anakin, maybe to a greater degree than the order, but from Anakin's point of view, it was as easy as siding with a family member over a stranger.
He was the most gifted force user at the time, and just wanted to metamorphize into a Butterfly to spread his wings and fly. Palpatine was the only one still alive offering him a cocoon to do it. Had the order just let him spread his wings, he probably wouldn't have become Vader. But the Jedi Order feared Anakin, which caused them to treat Anakin like he was a stray cat. All that preaching they gave Anakin about how fear leads to the dark side, and at the end of the day it was the fear the Jedi Order had of Anakin that drove him away, towards the path to the Darkside....and that, I think, was the real tragedy. Ironic, isn't it?
Funny you should say that Obi-wan is detached from Anakin. It's far from it on this movie. And explored even more in the Clone Wars series. He always knew about Anakin and Padmé. Obi-wan even had a girlfriend, Satine Kryze and he was low-key clapping cheeks off camera 😂
Siri Tachi was a better love interest for Kenobi than Satine ever was. That said it was proven up and down this movie he wasn't detached.
Fun fact: at 17:00 you can see they used anakin and obiwans prop lightsabers for general Greivous’s right arms

You’re spot on. Qui-Gon was a bit different than other Jedi, but he was the father figure Anakin never had. The brotherhood relationship developed with Obi-Wan and Anakin, and knowing his upbringing, Anakin never had a father figure. The father figure than seeped into his life was Palpatine.
