- A Very rare sight to see. Baldoyle Road level crossing breaks down. The crossing causes lots of trouble with traffic gams and stuff like that. The problem with the crossing was they had no control of the crossing so basicaly there was a fault with the crossing. Eventually Irish Rail were called up to the crossing to try and repair it. Eventually the crossing was fixed and now the crossing is back to normal. But this is not a common sight its ver rare in fact its so rare that I never ever seen it act up like this.

Best video I've seen in weeks. The problem seemed to be far more complicated than I originally thought.
That's crazy !
Ya Very Crazy
Indeed!
Bit of a seizure eh?
I haven't the faintest Idea. I'm usually a lift and bus lover, I just like level crossings because they're interesting and mechanical. They're just fun to watch.
Thanks im glad you enjoyed it. But it was quite funny to see the crossing act up like that.
As far as I know that's a system-thing in Holland. The motors in our barrier-systems can only be reversed when another train activates the crossing again (in the past, barriers had to open fully until they could be lowered again)
I don't know about signals over there, but it could be that crossings also control signals over there (as long as crossing isn't fully closed and locked, the signal won't clear)
That's something we almost don't have in Holland.
@ author: Love the accent in the video ;)
Good video. I've actually saw this happen on 2 or 3 occasions on the line between Athlone & Roscommon @ Hudson Bay & Ballymurray crossings. I'd to ring the Gardai to deal with the Hudson Bay 1 as I lived beside it and the alarm was doing me head in and also coz cars were refusing to cross the line so the Garda was on 'point duty' @ the crossing until Irish Rail could figure out what was wrong. At Ballymurray I was caught in the traffic and everyone was just crawling through the crossing.
Thanks Man im glad you enjoyed it, what do you think was the problem was with the crossing?
In Orange County, Calif., where I live, when the gates are stuck down, the police will show up and help direct traffic to help drivers turn around and go back the way they came.
Once the problem has been reported to the railway company, the dispatcher issues orders by 2-way radio to all approaching trains and advises all trains to observe the rules pertaining to out-of-order level crossings. This is known as Rule 6.32.2 in the U.S. General Code of Operating rules. The train must approach the crossing at restricted speed, and upon arrival at the crossing a member of the crew must get off the train and flag it across the crossing by hand. The engineer also sounds the horn with the "approaching crossing code" of two long blasts, a short blast, and a long blast, even if it is a Quiet Zone crossing.
This kind of malfunction can be caused by faulty sensors in the track or a fault in the sensors that detect the gates are fully raised up. The gates will drop then raise up again to try to make contact with the detector sensors and shut off the alarms and lights.
how many miles of traffic had the crossing made? how long had the crossing been working it's ticket?
Why is the level crossing broken
It better be fix it
It better be fix it
THE LIGHTS STAY FLASHING RED AT ALL TIMES TILL GATES RAISE !>:(
I have to say that's nuts to see the crossing go rip and cause chaos
good on you. better info than you get from Irish rail at times. and it looks like such a cold wet day.
Thats Crazy Broken Barrier At Baldoyle Road Level Crossing
Yes they were, Originally there used to be older lights with a white line around the lights.
Hi, I enjoyed this very much. The commentary was amusing. Are you from North Dublin? I'm an American actor about to do a play and I've got to attempt a North Dublin accent.
There is a level crossing that I often go to and it had a lot of incidents and it was claimed one of the most abused in the UK.
Thanks im glad you enjoyed, And thanks for the info aswell ;)
Actually Bayside and Sutton are about a mile away from eachother so this crossing is on the halfway point between them.
Thanks, Aw it was so cold that day my hands froze, Anyways im glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks, were you originally from Ireland?
What lines do tree trunks use branch lines
Hahahahahahaha
I cant believe that the barriers are going bloody bonkers. The railway crossing where i live had a malfunction because one of the barriers was down and the other barrier was up and the signals were red in both directions
Rather than wait for Irish rail - why not call the police, traffic management is part of their job and they should have been here to direct traffic, same as they do when traffic lights break.
Thanks. I thought the crossings in the U.S were controled by something in the station. But here in Ireland I think most of the crossings are controled by the main stations on the main lines. For the Northern Line, Howth Branch and Rosslare main line I presume Connolly Station controls all the the crossings on those lines I just said. And Id say for the rest of the lines in Ireland the crossings are possibly controled by Heuston Station and Cork (Kent) station.
what’s your name
Great Video! That happens alot here in America. I don't know about your country but the crossings in the U.S are controlled by a realy case, and when something happens inside the case, the crossing signals malfunction.
This vid reminds me of that one time in a car journey, and the barriers took 3 hours to fix, waste of time... Nice job.
Have u got the class 8100 or 8300 limeted edition model dart?
No I haven't actually, its just too expensive !
No Sutton was alright. As far as I know two crossings on the branch line were acting up. This one and the one on Lauder;s Lane / Burrow Road.
Your welcome. Crossings in the U.S are controlled by the relay case and wires attached to the track. When a train locomotive runs over the wire it sends a electric current to the relay case. When the relay case picks up th current, it judges the speed of the train and the distance the train is from the crossing. After this, the current goes to the crossing signals and activates them. When a train clears the crossing, the process is repeated and shuts off the signals. The relay case is a compter.

Why the railway track in Ireland does not have of third-rail electrification system in Ireland, if the UK, they are railway track systems was electrified from 3rd rail at 750V DC.
So I was in Ireland I was at a railroad crossing and one of the gates were down while the other 3 Gates were up and the lights were flashing but IRISH Rail came and fixed it
I assume the trains triggered the alarms, but the button or the trigger was held on, maybe?
Even i have not seen a crossing acting up before
Was there a storm there and it messed up the electric systems, or did it just fail?
Alright, It seems that all the crossings on the network seem to be breaking down, Its quite odd, It usually happens on the older crossings.
Excellent video!
Thank You !
Did you get it on video? I will go and have a look at it.
Hey Steven will you put th video up you were talk about your really good at making video about train you should do one inside the train
Level crossings are triggered by electric current. So if a conductive object is left laying on the tracks, the nearest 2 or 3 crossings will be affected.
kdmq in the U.K. And Ireland the crossings are controlled by a signaller and he watches the crossing through a set of CCTV cameras
I wonder if the crossing just kept timing out.
Ah I see, But for some odd reason the barriers go up and down and the alarm and lights keep oging of.
We will never know for sure what happened.
Did you get a video of it?
I know is soo rare to see a crossing act up. Usually this crossing does be fine.
I've been to Sutton level crossing and Claremont Road and baldoyle Road
It might have been a good idea to pick up the emergency phone at the crossing and tell them about the fault instead of filming this for 34 minutes
Langley Green, Oldbury in West Midlands in UK.
What day was this?
this crossing is crazy
how old is this crossing. if its old it would be so simple.
the train is proceeding with portion btw
*caution
On easter 2018, the same thing happened with sutton crossing
Really?
Strange occurrence, train gate failure, never seen that before.
The reporting was interesting to listen to, started to get more dramatic as time went on. Towards the end it sounded like there could have been aliens invading or the end of the world was nearly upon us. lol
I remember watching this years ago XD
I love your guys accent, sounds like mine, but mine is mixed with german. Irish and German heritage.
Every time those gates came up, someone should have gone out into the middle of the road to motion cars across until a train came, get the traffic flowing.
"well let's see what happens..."
*barriers spaz out*
"OH MY, IT'S NOT RIGHT. IT'S GONE BONKERS. SOMETHING, YUP, IT'S GONE VERY WRONG."
I have seen it happened in coleraine once
The only level crossings to brake are Sutton Bray Sandymount and Landsdown Road.
Well apparently this one can break too!
Indeed!
that level crossing is broken a lot that's not normal
some times it looked a little like it was inverted.
Yea it is. But its fixed now.
Indeed.
what is it like when Gates are not working
This
Maybe that might have happened.
I know there is so many misuse because the level crossing is broken
0:00 how is named that action with the barrier?
The old barriers do that to warn drivers cyclists and pedestrians to warn people that the barriers are bout to descend
No there was no storm, it just failed.
Well that's what most people did in their cars as they went over the crossing.
I looove the Irish accent
It’s a Dublin accent
Very strange!
this is so cool
Sometimes the good old whack helps out.
The crossing failed 😢
Oh ok and which one is that?
Is that in Scotland
Howth Ireland
Ok
Thanks ;)
Yea I know they don't allow them to fast.
Maybe.
I know its quite rare to see actually.
Is it rare for any level crossing to go bonkers
Great video
Cheers!
This might have been a malfunction... (Also, my actual TH-cam name is boynoob7.)
how is the crossing malfunctioning
Something was wrong with the motors which control the barriers.
Irish Rail Trains when is the level crossing will be fixed
?
that is not normal is it fixed
Oh, well at least you were telling them, it, sorry commenting before watching the entire video :)
Why are there yellow lines on the railway crossing from barrier to barrier?
Oh them yellow lines mean no car can stop in that area.
Irish Rail Trains why is the level crossing broken
No, I was born in the US, but I'm the only person in my family to have an accent
No, but they won't say.
Saturday the 16th of Febuary 2013.
50 MPH: Highway speed in U.S.
Oh rite I better look it up.
Yea I seen that.
I can’t see the train
Ah its ok, it over a half an hour long so at some sage you would get sick listening to me talking.
I think it is controlled from bray i think I do not know
ER Trains Nope, CTC in Connolly
id say we are sorry trains on this branch are cancled due to crossing broken we are sorry
for this
is the crossing fixed
It is now yeah.
It is fixed now.
Yep, its working fine.
OH NO ITS ALL GONE HORRIBLY WRONG
THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!!!!
No really, because it has causing traffic jams and disruption with train services.
wewho wewho!
