Brings back memories of college in the early 80's. We would go to the Delaware just above Shawnee on the Pennsylvania side. Great fun. I went back a few years ago and now people have to pay to park along that area. Disappointed in the park system to say the least.
Nice video! Catching up on all the Shad videos on TH-cam for the upcoming Shad season. Will start float fishing for Shad on the American River in late April or early May.
Great Video, if you have never tried the Shad Run on the Delaware, it is an amazing early season bite. We have done several videos on this ourselves, and id becoming a yearly pilgrimage for us and some good friends. It is especially interesting when you are able to bring folks in from out of the area to see what a great fishery this is.
I used to spend hours shad fishing in Upper Black Eddy. I didn't like fishing the Jersey side. I could sell a set of roe for 5 bucks a set.i didn't go when the bucks are running but when the roe were moving it was the show.
You guys are striper fishermen. Your releasing a lot of good bait. I grew up Fishen the Monmouth county beaches. We used to get shad from the flume at Deal lake n through em out live lining in Asbury Park. Got some good stripes on these and hickory shad. I had a modest live well in my van but I've seen guys with live wells that take up most of the cargo area in their vans. Are these hardy enough to make an hour trip in a well? If so, try em for some big stripes. At least the smaller ones will work. Under 2 lbs usually.
Great video.these fish fight so hard.try using a fly rod for them.you will not believe how much fun you will have.they make a fly reel scream.i fish for them in mass.i do most of my fishing at dusk right thru the night.where I fish the females may weigh 9 lbs.males are like 4 lbs.andy naberski knows where I fish.you guys had fun.thank you for sharing.tight lines to you all at On The Water.
Hey guys. Great video. I'm new to stream fishing. What style of waders would you recommend? It seems that many being sold have the soft boots, but it looks like you're all wearing harder boots.
There is! Smithfield Beach National Recreation Area is near where we were fishing and looks like plenty of parking and access. I'm sure there are plenty of other spots as well.
I respectfully disagree. How fast and far my terminal tackle sinks is dependent on a) the weight of the rig, and b) the speed of the current. I've only been fishing shad on the CT river for 40 years, what do I know? In any event, tight lines! YMMV, and invariably will...
I’m 65 years old and i’m calling BS on the bears 🐻 feeding on the shad. Where on the Delaware do the Bears feed on shad? I’ve fished that River from Brandywine to Peapacton in New York. I never saw Bear 🐻 or Bears 🐻 FEEDING. maybe you saw Yogi or Smokey feeding on picnic baskets 🧺.
This is kinda funny to me. Simms waders, fancy tackle, landing nets, etc.. to catch shad? I'm sorry but around here shad fishing, at least for me, is a last resort, cold streak, haven't bent a rod in a while, just wanna catch a fish again type of thing. Go to the pier with the light at the end after dark starting late summer early fall and flip a sabiki rig into the outgoing current with a cheap rod and have a few beers. $40 in tackle and you can catch shad endlessly and make friends with some asian folks in the process. The wimpier the rod the more fun it is!
Great fishing. Great BS'ing , too !! Love these guys. Thx for this
I don’t know whats more American the shad or that sweet mullet Swiss is rocking. Awesome video guys!
Legend has it the mullet is centuries old. Both are native species to the area!

It's a great way to start your season especially if you need to shake off the cabin fever. Thank you for the response
@@OnTheWaterMedia will be an early season this year, get out there and get on 'em!
Love the Delaware! I’ve shad a fished a few times but no luck… is it starting to pick up!?
OK on the vid and comments. Fly rod is best for me. In fact a Spey rod. I will miss it this year. Have fun fellas.
Nice video, fun fish to catch!
👍🏼🇺🇸
Great video. I’ll be going for the American Shad for the first time in 2021 at the Potomac River.
Good luck John I'm sure you'll have a good time!

How does one help share about all the great things the waters in this area have to offer :)

Good luck!
Where would be a good location to catch shads in the Delaware River Gap
American shad over here in California go back to the ocean after spawning. They don’t die like salmon.
Probably not going to Respond to this but I caught these tonight in Gloucester mass witch is right on the ocean amazing what these fish can do
Nice catch! They must be migrating back south by now from Maine / NH area.
