I've fished this area of the Delaware River for over 35 years and lemme just say that this type of productivity might be common from a boat, but certainly not while wading swift currents on ultra slippery rocks, not to mention the challenging overgrown shoreline. I've Always enjoyed this dude's skill level.
I grew up fishing shad on that river. I will share the best way to cook them. you need a 3/4" x 12" x 8" piece of Oak, lay the whole fish on Oak and bake at 350 degrees for 3 hours. let it cool, toss the fish in the trash and eat the Oak board. )
This is gold!!! I live about 30min from the river, north of the gap, I try shad fishing every year.... get skunked every year lol, but this video gives me hope to get out there and try again.
Dude ! That was me and Charlie in that Marquis. We were headed to Trenton for stripers. Been banging them for two weeks on plugs and shads. We put in yesterday where you stopped first. We picked 8 on plugs.
Man is it good to finally see a video of you back on the river! It’s been too long. Miss the old days of you smashing muskies and walleye on the river. Learned a whole ton from your videos in the early days on your channel. Miss flathead fridays a whole ton! Glad to see you back at it!
Had a dude next to me hook a mid 30” musky on a flutter spoon in reiglesville a couple years ago. And I’ve gotten small Stripers, walleye, quill backs and smallies on them. Buddy of mine got a nice tiger trout a few weeks ago in the area you were in. And I saw a large brown caught too. The big D has everything.
We were one the boats anchored bt the bridge at new hope that day, the fishing was fantastic. I used to fish for these on the West Coast, we never used spoons or darts....funny how the rigs are so different.
Shad was a big industry along the Connecticut River here in New England. From Mothers Days to Fathers Day there are fish viewing stations which are underground with windows facing the river in Holyoke and Turner Falls, Massachusetts. They update the number of species that pass thru the fish ladder everyday. Great place to bring your children to learn about nature.
Ahh the ole striperitis rears it's head. I have the same disease Chris. No matter what I'm fishing for, the mind always wanders to surfcasting for stripers lol.
Ive caught many shad under the Lambertville bridge, not sure why its good either but its certainly a blast playing with some jersey tarpon on noodle rods.
Great video! I've lived in PA all my life . Fished for about everything. But I totally forgot about shad in recent years. Always wanted to try for them when I was a kid. Now I may have to make a trip to cross them off the bucket list.
The best bait for American White Shad is the jig head with a chartreuse 2-3" curly tail.. That is all we use here in Eastern NC and we are still wearing them out right now.
Nice video bro! I enjoyed watching! You should try some kietech paddle tails on the Delaware. I used to beat on smallies using kietechs in Cochecton NY. 3/16 heads. Stripers have been challenging this past winter/ spring for a lot of my friends. Shad roe used to be considered a delicacy by many people back in the days.
I first heard about the annual shad run in Nyack, NY on the Hudson. The population is coming back. It's not a commercial levels but fishing for shad during the run is a ritual with a history.
I nymph a cold water release tributary to the Delaware. The shad are always running every spring. You can see them in the water. They are a bluish grey color. I’ve hooked several on a 3wt rod. They are extremely powerful fish!
Best way to cook shad! #1-Prepare shad and place on a cedar board. #2 Place cedar board with shad on open fire. #3- wait 5 to 7 minutes to cook. #4- remove cedar board and shad from fire and let cool for 5 minutes. #6-throw shad in the garbage and eat cedar board.
Central Pennsylvania is Pennsyltucky not the East Coast. It’s the Pennsylvania Rifle;Lancaster Rifle and Kentucky Rifle that gives the area that name. It’s got nothing to do with fishing the Delaware river. Though they have a festival every year.
Ain’t that what George Washington and his troops feasted on after about starving to death that winter? And then the American shad run happened on the Delaware and saved them all! It was either those or the hickory.. anyhow, cool deal bud! 👍👍🤙🏻✌🏻, looks like good catfish bait to me, either of those, although you probably couldn’t do that up there, people would pitch a fit!
The American Shad or the poor man’s tarpon ! On a 5W fly rod they are fantastic jumpers ! I’m from Bucks county Pa. and fished for them from Morrisville up to Upper Black Eddy !
What on earth is the point of Catch and Release? It’s the same as hunting with paint balls guns. Why put a fish, or an animal, through that but for your amusement??

Ive heard thats the best way to do it haha
being 3 or 4 minutes from the delaware river and first shad fishing on the hudson in the 1970's I have to agree , your recipe is spot on
vegan friendly too
Gave you the thumbs-up as soon as i saw you knock over the jar of lures lol
Yes, I had that 'been there done that' moment.
This is gold!!! I live about 30min from the river, north of the gap, I try shad fishing every year.... get skunked every year lol, but this video gives me hope to get out there and try again.
I remember when you first started doing fishing videos. I just now finally found your channel 4 years later....hell yes

😂😂😂
Incredible driving work fellas
haha thats sick!
23.55 going through the brush to get to a small open spot on the shore brought back memories of doing the same trout fishing in Northern NJ.

Great video Chris! Thanks for uploading. I really enjoy your videos.

You can catch shad like crazy just below the dam behind the Philadelphia Art Museum. Walleye, black crappie and many other fish. Great spot !
Ahh the ole striperitis rears it's head. I have the same disease Chris. No matter what I'm fishing for, the mind always wanders to surfcasting for stripers lol.
Best fishing video from the Delaware River. Not an easy river to fish. Great job.
I caught my firs walleye of 2024 yesterday on the St Lawrence River. A 15 incher. I let it go as the season starts May 17.
Living in Philly a few blocks from the Delaware, it never would of occurred to me that there were Walleye up river. I really need to get out.
Yo! I live in Lambertville, such a great multispecies location with the Delaware and trout streams flowing in
Don’t know what made me laugh more .. dumping the plastic cup of darts and spoons or watching you risk a dunking to get your X-rap back 😂😂
I'm down south, I could go for that kind of fishing. SM is the man..
Nice day's fishing and you're on my turf. Great to watch!

Theyre worth a day of fishing, something different
I will be on the CT next week!
I just move to Montreal and there’s a big shad run here too, soon. Thanks for ur vids! Been following for a while. I used to live in Long Island,
glad to see you upload as always

Live line one of those hickory shad....striper....musky?? Good job on the variety!

I'm sorry I laughed out loud when you dumped your little container of lures. And then it was worse than it appeared. Stuff that happens to me daily
Yup. Just put the camera down.
Awesome fishing man

i actually live near here we are in columbia nj good fishing here in some spots too fast in most areas.
Nice video
The last spot you fished sure seemed familiar. Like from a video of yours years ago.
He talk's to himself when he fishes cause sometimes he needs expert advice 😂
2” grubs with 1/4 ounce jig heads work very well. We kill em every year in NC on those
Water must still be a little cold if you are getting all those Walleyes.
Right before you hooked up on the first hickory you can see one swim by the log to your left
If you guys don't know about the willowleafs. U should try them. Plus bend the hook a little up rite for more action.
A sturgeon hunt would be sick
yea it would.. not allowed to target them unfortunately.
14:32 I was just telling the wife this last night....
Pennsyltucky is the other side of the Susqy. And don't tell the 3 40 plus inch stripers i had around the airport Sunday that the run is over 😂😆😂
Shoot man don’t give pennsyltuckians a bad name by associating them with Jersey lol jokes aside, awesome vid!
Thought for sure the 5th species was going to be a muskellunge!
Shad Derby in Holyoke Mass
If you tryna get some striper in CT by kayak, holla at me 👌🏻 Go birds.

I’ve never caught a shad, what’s the hype?
I never go anywhere that holds musky without my musky gear. It's a bit of an addiction for a little payoff.
As someone who lives in Montreal, our shad action is soooo much better than what i am seeing in this vid.
Did he really say striper fishing is over now-----in April??
😄😄
for striper fishing , use shad for bait . grate bait
Herring were good striper bait to but you can't use them anymore a good area is in Trenton from the ballpark to the Calhoun st bridge
CT and Delaware river are pretty much the same with shad festivals and the same dudes fishing the same spots yearly.
Oops yep, I should’ve watched in a little more, you just said it. About George and the troops
I pulled my boat with a harley😊to the delaware

Shad roe is good and you can broil them and toss them in a blender and make fish cakes outta the fish
💯
Wow water real high, not good!
Yep has to be a lot lower now
You must watch Mav. His buddy that i cant tell is a male or female calls walleye, whaleeye.
Come to Connecticut river

Take that rear treble off the Xrap..not needed
Stupid amount of boats , there’s one down there , try salmon river ,I pissed off all of them with my canoe on a float pass
Pennsyltuckey, well at least we can not marry 1st cousins like you can in New York State.
The American Shad or the poor man’s tarpon ! On a 5W fly rod they are fantastic jumpers ! I’m from Bucks county Pa. and fished for them from Morrisville up to Upper Black Eddy !
Adhd life
Delaware river is now the most polluted water in the U.S.
