Growing up in Greenville, Texas, Bart Millard suffers physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his father, Arthur. When Arthur becomes terminally ill, he finds redemption by embracing his faith and rediscovering his love for his son. Years later, Bart's troubled childhood and mended relationship with his dad inspires him to write the hit song "I Can Only Imagine" as singer of the Christian band MercyMe.

This is the only movie I've ever had any kind emotions towards and I'm 30 years old. This movie was like a play back of all the hardships my asshole father did to me growing up. This is a powerful movie made me shed a few tears and made me realize I'll never be the monster my dad was and still is.

When Bart came back home with the helmet. It tore me up to hear is father say that. The only reason i live is becasue i have dreams. I wanted, and almost, suffocated myself yesterday. This movie is awesome. As i am not a huge Christian like my family, it is still a good movie. And i cant get enough of the song!

Reyes, hang in there, I'm sorry what you had to go through, ever since I was 5 years old, I had a an abusive father, he drank and beat my mother almost every weekend, from his Friday night partying, by the time my mom was 22 he had all of her teeth knocked out, they were 8 of kids growing up, back then, I grew up with such a vengeance, wanting to kill him, I carried that with me for years, it was destroying me, I went to church one night with my sister, and God showed me how can you love someone who you haven't seen, and hate your brother who you have seen, it just hit, I went up for prayer, I cried out to God so hard, I felt someone reaching down touched my shoulders and it was lifted off me, god healed my heart, that night and the next day I could look at my dad and say I love him, as the years went by, he slowed down his drinking, especially after my mom died in a car accident, after a few more years, he became sick with lung cancer, we took care of him until the end, he passed away surrounding by his kid's, I thank God that I got to make a relationship with him, I felt so much peace, I'll never forget the day when he passed, after he took his last breath, out of nowhere a big huge bird came out of the sky, opened his wings flew across the trailer towards his bedroom, and he was gone and the bird flew away, it's wings spread 6 feet on each side, I miss my parents every day, I'm just glad he quit drinking and wanted more of the lord,
