    We had a lady named Mrs Rachel. Mom would sit me beside her while she went up and led congregational singing. The problem was that one never knew when Mrs Rachel would jump up and let out a shout!! IT WAS TERRIFYING!!! I tried to watch her for signs … you know … like …a pressure cooker has a jiggler!!! She always had a ladies cloth handkerchief in her hand, and when she’d shout, she’d wave it. That confused me because it seemed there was Victory in the shout, and surrender with white flag. Now, as an older lady myself, I understand that in surrender we win the Victory!!! And that reminds me of “one of” my mom’s favorite songs. Thanks for all you do…we need the laughter!! God Bless. 🙏🏻

    We used to go to a Pentecostal church. They did an altar call and some people went up. A female pastor was praying for one of the women and kept trying to ease her back. She did this several times until they both went tumbling and the Pastor's shoe flew off 😆. One of my friends was sitting elsewhere and she was laughing so hard her friend next to her had to put a coat over her 🤣. Never a dull moment in that church 🤣.

    After I married my husband, we visited his home town church. That week the worship leader was absent and since I was a worship leader, I was asked if I could lead the worship. This was back in the 80’s. Little did I know there was a precious little lady who sat on the front row and loved to sing. She had a very strong accent and an operatic voice. She loved to sing Vibrato (her voice vibrated between notes for those who are unfamiliar with the Latin word). The most memorable part of her singing was that she sang loud with gusto and was off key!
    I started leading the first song and she entered in with such enthusiasm that I nearly fell off my high heeled shoes! It kind of threw me for a loop and I had to catch up with the music. 😂. I loved that lady and it is one of my fondest memories. ❤

      @@kathleenbeach4839 I am a trained singer. I started out with a tremolo, and my teacher had me work on it for months to get a cleaner tone. Tremolos are wicked hard to get under control, and the wavering between pitches was beyond annoying when my voice teacher made me aware of it. I still have to watch out for bad habits in singing, so believe me, I understand.

And, although he wasn't solely a Christian comedian, but is a devout Christian, check out Bill Engvall. Also in retirement now, he is still active on youtube. His bit about almost got kicked out of church is funny. A lot of Christian comedians have a two pronged approach to comedy. The humor doesn't really change. But, the delivery kind of varies depending on whether their audience is church-based or secular-based and their agents make this clear to the comic when they book the gig...usually. Jeff Allen has an amusing sketch when his agent/manager failed to tell him which gig was which. 🤣 But, the bottom line is there are clean comedians out there and some are Christians. Even the ones who primarily perform in churches realize how far to take the comedy and what line, even in churches, not to cross. My friend went to an authentic snake handling church, she left home at 14 for some reason.
      Not a runaway, exactly, she went to live with family in "civilization" ( her word not mine) . He dad was weird but nice but her mom was a religious fanatic.
      I loved my friend then and until she died a few years ago, so I did visit her home frequently.
      Your comment made me remember how she would not, probably could not eat on Saturday and still suffered unpleasant intentional revolt against the environment.

    Ughh..tambourines ladies. The bane of my existence as a praise team piano player. The last one, we asked nicely, in private, explaining the very real issues with timing for the musicians. She came back with, “but that’s how I worship”. I said, “well, as the worship leader, I’m asking you to not play the tambourine, but you do what you want”. 1st song, 2 beats in, and tambourine lady is slapping away, off beat and staring me down. I got up on my microphone, looked her right in the eyes and said, loudly, “NO”. Clean and simple. I never saw her again. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but she was single-handedly destroying the services. We’re responsible for the worship experience of hundreds and one selfish person can’t win in that situation. Church is tough, just try it sometime.

    Your tambourine lady might've been a visiting Episcopalian. (I am one, so...) There's a running joke that we don't know WHAT to do with a tambourine. They claim that the only reason I get away with playing it is because I came over from another denomination. LOL And thank you for that truth about church musicians (I'm one of those, too...) - but let's also blame the composers who put those songs in "mosquito notes."

    • @cheryllwaldrop9732
      @cheryllwaldrop9732 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      When I was a child, I was told that the hymns were in such a high key because it made them easier for the piano player to play. Once I had music lessons, I realized that wasn't true. That many sharps or flats cannot possibly be the easiest arrangement for the pianist. Even if it was, there's only one pianist-- surely we're not just throwing all of the other congregants under the bus because some piano player prefers using only the black keys.

One of the members was an old(er) lady, let's call her Martha, who had the lung power of a cooper's hawk and had no idea of how far off key she was. Ev-er. She was almost not singing the same hymn as the rest of the people...but what could you say? Marha, don't sing, you're deafening the preacher. Martha, could you just zip it?
