Aging is viewed as a natural and inevitable process, something that happens to all of us and cannot be stopped. But what if we looked at aging completely different - a string of symptoms caused by an underlying issue.
Even though it might sound crazy there may be a way to cure aging, and it’s thanks to something that already lives inside all of us, our microbiome.
Our microbiome is a collection of all microbes inside your body. This can include bacteria, fungi, and even viruses. Since the key to a long life is maintaining a healthy microbiome, experts believe if we can hack our microbiomes, we may be able to cure aging, altogether.

but one note: you're not actually born with your microbiome. There are some studies that identified bacterial DNA in the placenta, but the results of these studies could not be reproduced reliably.. A newborn first comes in contact with microbes during birth, with the vaginal microbiome of the mother. and interestingly, the gut microbiomes of babies delivered via C-section look more like the mother's skin microbiome.

Aging is inevitable as long as it's limited by telomeres. Telomeres are bits of junk DNA that gets hacked off each time a cell divides itself. Once they run out, that cell can no longer divide to make replacements. This is of particular importance in the stomach, because your stomach lining is constantly being destroyed by acid, requiring them to be replaced. Once you can no longer do that, you die. Period. If nothing else kills you first, this is guaranteed to. This puts a hard limit on how old a person can theoretically live, believed to be somewhere in the 120-150 year old range for most people.
There are ways to get around the telomere problem. Unfortunately we haven't figured out a way to do it that doesn't also cause Cancer. That's what Cancer does. It makes cells divide indefinitely and out of control.

    • @swordwaker7749
      @swordwaker7749 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Long-Telomere-cell is normally replenished by stem cells. We do have the mechanisms to avoid that, however, stem cells themselves are imperfect and often are vulnerable to certain things. It’s not just telomere though.

By the way, there are other things that create a healthy microbiome other than "eat well". That’s too simplistic. More specifically,
    - eat mostly plants in their natural form, because of the microbiota diversity in their natural form, without killing off the microbiota through overcooking and a lot of processing.
    - eat a variety of foods, mostly plants, for two reasons. (1). The good microbiota require a ton of fiber, which are essentially indigestible carbohydrates, but fibers are critical for good microbiota because they do "eat and digest" fiber even if we don’t. (2) Fiber is not a monolith - there are hundreds of kinds of fiber which can be gained from different food sources, and different microbiota "eat and digest" different types of fibers to stay healthy. Almost 90% of people in modern day countries do not get enough fibers. Don’t do it all at once - you have to take a little time to build up your microbiome. Bonus - once your microbiome is healthy, your cravings for sugar and other chemicals goes away. Why? The microbiome actually ties into neurotransmitters. It sounds like sci-fi but it is true.
    - avoid processed "foods" that have chemicals (preservatives, for ex) that have a negative impact on the microbiome
    - minimize sugar - it makes the "bad" microbiota grow at the expense of good microbiota
    - definitely stay away from high fructose corn syrup and most other sugar "substitutes". They wreak havoc on the microbiome
    - surprisingly, getting a good night’s sleep impacts the microbiome
    - also surprisingly, exercise benefits the microbiome as well.
    - even though Andrew Steele does not like to admit it, but fasting - such as intermittent fasting - also impacts the microbiome in a positive way
    - Edit - I forgot one! Sustained stress also has a negative impact on the microbiome. As a result, the depleted microbiome has a negative impact on our immune systems (and we therefore get sick more easily), and nervous system and neurotransmitters, (and therefore cravings as well, which is why we often crave carbs when we’re under ongoing stress).
Taking a supplement with microbiota without having a diet and life habits that can feed and sustain those microbiota in the gut, is not quite pointless, but at least short-lived benefits.
Thousands of studies are being done now with the new leverage of data analytics, machine learning and AI of the DNA of microbiota and microbiome analysis. More to come soon!

Best comment here, agree with you. I struggle to add enough fibre cuz I either do too much and then crash at day 4 or I just don't do enough and go to simple carbs instead. I feel a lot better in those 3 days of fibre loading. But really can't do it long term. But one can always begin again. ;)

Don’t underestimate sleep and fermented foods! I felt I was doing everything right (except for good sleep patterns and fermented foods) and my gut health was slowly getting worse and worse. Ended up with dry skin, throat pain, runny poo, acid reflux, constant flu and migraines, thinning hair, fatigue, muscle loss, and terrible pain all over my stomach. Had no idea what was happening until I stumbled upon a video talking about sleep and gut health, so I added sauerkraut and kefir and worked hard at getting to a point where I could sleep for at least 7 hours a night and things slowly started to improve. Acid reflux went away overnight, dry skin cleared in a few weeks, no more throat pain (took several months), no fatigue, migraines are now rare, no flu or illness since I started almost a year ago, hair thickness improving, amazing results in the gym, poo is normal and regular, terrible pain in my stomach is gone, but I do still get some digestive pain but improving. Digestive pain is mild but it is the only thing I have now, everything else is healed. I’m just nearing the end of a 3 day water fast so we’ll see if there’s and improvements with my digestion.
Edit, forgot to add intermittent fasting! That means that I started eating in a 16 hour window everyday sometimes 18 hour. I feel like this had a massive benefit also

Let's not forget that in recent decades our microbiomes has decreased due to the amount of highly processed foods (including the addition of all kinds of stabilizers, preservatives etc.) in our diets. At this point it's not really about stopping aging but helping a growing population of people with digestive issues that lead to all sorts of physical and mental problems in the affected. Maybe it's just me, but I get the feeling that more and more people I encounter have these kinds of problems. However, it is not a popular thing to talk about so most people probably don't even know what is going on. And if someone is really troubled with a disturbed microbiome, a capsule of someone elses gut sample could be a really good option... It could restore so much quality of life at the negligible cost of a healthy individual doing what they do everyday anyway.

Like most younger generations that believe the older generations are stupid their arrogance is what’s killing them literally. Wise up and see what you can learn from the past or repeat it and make it worse.

there are few things that need to be checked before you say "facts". a few questions no one answers -
    1. did they do research on people with diff. diets? if they did, I'm sure they didn't do it on people who eat only meat (carnivores).
    2. did they check the effect of anti-parasitic on the microbiome? lately we have seen that ivermectin helps fighting also viruses(cov1d), so I think it has an influence on the microbiome.
3.it seems that eating well means diff. things to diff. people, because until now there wasn't any credible research on diet ,except faulty retroactive diet questioners. and there were 2 diets that no one checked - 1~ diet that separate macro nutrients(proteins and fat separate from carbs(and fiber)).
2~a strict carnivore diet(at least 80% red meat, 20% other animal
    protein(eggs,fish,pork,chicken), water and salt).
I bet that when they do they will realize all their nutrition recommendations were wrong and they will see that the microbiome acts differently on these two diets I mentioned.
