    A big part of the problem is this the legal fiction of "personhood" of corporations, which are nothing more than a piece of paper in a filing drawer in the office of the Secretary of State. If corporate officers carried personal responsibility for the actions of the companies they control, many of the abuses would stop. Blame the misuse of a head note added by a court reporter in the case of _Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific R. Co.,_ 118 U.S. 394 (1886) for starting this mess. The head note wasn't even an official part of the court decision.
    Until a case comes along that allows the Supreme Court of the United States to issue a ruling that abolishes or restricts personhood for corporations, state courts could interpret the personhood status so that convicted corporations temporarily lose their right to lobby and donate money to politicians, just as flesh-and-blood citizens lose their right to vote until their sentence is served.

    What good are state inspectors in a state where the government doesn't care about the people only how much money that they can bilk out of the populace. Graft. But then what difference does it make to a dictator.

      Or, build power lines like they do in the Midwest, that can withstand 80 MPH winds AND were updated sometime sooner than 1942 (which is how outdated the Feather River Canyon lines are, where the Camp Fire started).

      @@anitahamlin2411 But then “the people” become responsible for the liability of fire loss, including homes, businesses, and lives. That’s a huge cost. They also take on the cost of upgrades, repairs, and new building of the grid. It becomes the taxpayer’s responsibility.

    When you are charging people an average of $1,000 a month for a WIRE going into a house , PGE could take some of that for maintenance, instead of shipping most of it to LOBBYISTS in California to AVOID doing maintenance.

    • @TheFrogfeeder
      @TheFrogfeeder 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know this comment is a year old, but I just found these older episodes...my 2cents to your comment: part of the problem with maintenance is the cost of pge labor due to their union. Pge is not known for efficiency on job sites, and the rate of pay and benefits packages for pge workers is astronomical, which is good if you’re a worker, but not so good if you’re a greedy corporate shill...plus, new trucks don’t buy themselves every single year...I worked for a company for a bit that worked closely with pge in the field, always saw them putting in a lot of new lines and service, didn’t see much repair work of old lines and service, both electric and gas jobs.

    • @fladave99
      @fladave99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheFrogfeeder You're right. Internal structures suck up a lot of momentum. The real problem is the voters wanting this clean energy garbage because of their lack of any research. Does anyone know that as bad as the Calii infrastructure is - CALI IS THE LARGEST IMPORTER OF POWER IN THE US at 35% plus. Most of the imports are from coal and nat gas from neighboring states and some of the coal plants are owned by PGE and are placed out of state to get around the regs.. So while the voters are so smug amazed at how clean the air is and how great their green energy is, much of their power is from dirty coal.All this green energy is a total scam,enriching the politicians while the voters get screwd paying 1000 a month plus for coal power in their tesla.

    • @zuzuspetals9281
      @zuzuspetals9281 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fladave99 Additionally, millions of dollars is spent on green energy through vehicles for employees, investing in alternative green energy such as solar and windmills, and shutting down nuclear power plants which are efficient forms of energy production. All this distracts from repair of lines and replacing overhead lines with buried ones.

    • @fladave99
      @fladave99 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zuzuspetals9281 Down in So Fla we have mainly buried lines, concrete poles. I notices lots of very old wood poles as well in Cali. Cali imports 30% of its power from coal plants out of state. Alt green power is a myth. I feel for the people of Cali but they vote for this garbage while politicians get rich. I cant believe that the recall only has about 50% support.

    An actual solution to this problem is to break up the power monopoly. Allow smaller corporations/companies to take responsibility for rebuilding smaller parts of the electrical grid. If those companies do a poor job, let those smaller areas vote for another company to come in. If you allow that big of a monopoly over that large an area, and it can donate to political campaigns? What do we expect? 😔😅

    Rittiman doesn't get it. PGE gave itself $235 million in bonuses while in bankruptcy with federal approval because it has the federal government over a barrel. That money didn't go to the fire victims or equipment safety inspectors to prevent the next fire.
    The U.S. Congress (Joint Committee on Atomic Energy) covered up a severe nuclear accident that occurred on 7-17-1970 at the Humboldt Bay Unit#3 plant. Fifty-nine commercial nuclear plants were under construction in America at the time so on 7-22-1970 the JCAE made the truth go away. How many children in South Bay Elementary School 450yrds downwind would have their lives cut short. Now if pressed, PGE could threaten to reveal the truth. Google "Humboldt Nuclear Accident" a 39min video and 66min radio interview.

    Pge should be forced to update and replace all their existing natural gas infrastructure, and relocate as much of the power wire infrastructure to underground as is possible while also updating and replacing all towers, substations, and wires. Then, as the actual punishment, they can pay to repave every every single city, county, and state road in their service area.

    your map of PG&E's territory is a bit off.
    Redding, Roseville, Lodi and santa clara all have their own power companies. Theres also SMUD which covers sacramento area, as well as MID/modesto irrigation district, TID turlock irrigation district, and MerID merced ID.... Profit Gouge and Electric does not have customers in those territories. MID alone has 130,000 meters and TID has about 80,000... SMUD has hundreds of thousands more

      PG&E stands for Pacific _Gas_ and Electric. The service map shown includes PG&E's gas customers, not just electric.
      As you pointed out, there are other electrical companies; I'm a SMUD customer but I also pay PG&E for gas. Roseville has their own electrical, but they are also serviced by PG&E for gas.
