026 and 036 are great saws. Everybody should have one of each for their collection! I love the old Homelites but if I was getting back into the firewood cutting I'd use a Stihl for sure.
I’ve got an 026 and a 034 converted to an 036. Kind of an interesting saw. Splines on the 026 and the 036 are same size so easy to swap parts over. Mine doesn’t have a compression release but it has an adjustable oiler. Slapped a 25” ES light bar on it and it is just a dream for bucking up medium firewood. Mine seems to really rev out hard and seems a little high strung but is just a fantastic firewood saw.
I love my old 036 QS. Perfect firewood processing saw. Tough, reliable, enough power than I never really feel like I'm waiting on the saw. I spend way more time move around the log pile and repositioning and bracing for cuts than actually cutting. Once I find a good position to rip a few cuts it's game on, zip zip zip... firewood bucks all over the place.
Nicely done! Looks presentable and cuts very well. I had only problems fixing the 036 for my friend. Barr stud was stripped out of the case and several other problems with rubber intake and impulse and fuel lines. I used thread insert to fix the hole for the bar stud and it holds very well now. I also used some epoxy to be on the sure side, but I think I didn't need to. What I'm still missing is that cover that goes around the clutch and over the brake mechanism. Had no luck on finding that part.
Hey Dan, those aftermarket mufflers for the 036, looks similar to the one I got off Amazon, they have double the size hole in the muffler than stock and a very unrestrictive spark arrestor. I just restored 2 036 Pro's I got free, one I gave to my son for Christmas. Just finished mine and video'd it. It gave me some trouble, but got it figured out. I love these saws. Great video, love your channel.
Finishing up mine this week. Some good ebay sellers even had the right stickers too. Trying the Hyway plated top end out. My saw was free with a shattered piston skirt. Sounds like new again!
nice saw have a 38 can burry the 24 inch bar and it likes it, you did a good job on that when the rings seet it will richin up and whan you retune will run even better
I have the 026 and 036 Pro, Bought in the 90's but only for home use. they both run great. Put a Carb on the 026 years ago when I was stupid and let it sit too long with this trash gas they have. Wish I knew the best way to change the main fuel line on the 036. Seems like you need to disassemble the entire machine. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks for a nice video.

I'm not partial, as long as they run good and look good doin it!😉
That dog will hunt! I like how we refer to a 30 year old saw as a newer one 😂
I know right, I always forget how old they are, sort of timeless in a way😉
Awesome!!! Playing with the new saws now😁👍👍👊
Yessir!😁

Thanks man, yeah I believe you can get to it after removing the carb and the plastic housing behind it if I remember correctly🤔 good luck Brother
What do you do to clean carbon buildup on the saw where the exhaust exits?
Usually just scrape it out carefully, making sure piston is covering exhaust port😁
hey kain i was wondering if you would be able to do a video on getting the poulan 306sa running thanks dean
Hi Dean, yeah one of these days hopefully 😉
I'd love to have that saw, it gets with the program, sounds killer. Well done. For sale??
