ps3 service menu top best options that work for me
1. restart system ( system does not work still )
2. restore default settings ( didn't work for me )
3. restore file system ( few times work )
4. rebuild database
5. restore ps3 system ( works most of the time but deletes your data )
6. system update ( sometimes crashes ) if these ways don't work try new hard drive and put update on usb drive stick with ps3 update see video below in video response.

Mine got stuck at about 16% and then went on really slowly (about 3 or 4% per hour) and then stopped somewhere (the most progress I know of - I checked every few hours - was 45%). I tried it 2 times and it failed. I thought I destroyed the HD. But with your help I just restored the PS3 system and it works as new. Thanks :)

Also to help with the dust unplug the power cord and hold the eject button then plug it back in that puts your ps3 into a self cleaning mode
@@gabesnowball4723that's not a self cleaning mode, it's a fan test mode. Sony advices to not do it, it can damage your console and spread dust on crucial parts.
mine goes all the way through then restarts but the screen pops up AGAIN its done it about 15 times now

JALICIENSEyTEQUILERO mate calm down. he told you what would happen, should be glad you even still have your playstation. some people with these same problems have a busted hard drive and cant play at all.

Wow, so this video is amazing. I just purchased a slim line PS3 for $50 dollars because the person thought the harddrive was corrupt. It's always good to backup your game saves. Being as I have an older 80GB model, the hard drive has gotten full many times over. Game saves are very small files so in case something like the above video should happen, or you just need to make room for a new game, you can delete the game data but still have your game saves.

Mine keeps rebuilding the database. It finishes downloading abd it says I need to rebuild the database again again and again

I need help I've been having my PS3 for a while now and and never had errors with it until yesterday something odd happened I was about to play RE Revelations 2 and it said checking for save data and i noticed it was taking longer than usual so i decided to quit the game but then after I pressed quit game it went to a black screen and wouldnt turn off at all so I had no choice but to unplug it so then after I turned it back on it said *The File System on The System Storage is corrupted and will be restored* so I pressed ok and then after I press ok it says Restoring please wait so it goes up to 41% and stays there for around 10 minutes then it goes up to 100% then goes to a black screen and wont do anything then after a while it restarts and says the same message so I went to safe mode and pressed Restart System it freezes my system then I press Restore File System and it stays stuck on the Preparing Screen so then I press Rebuild Database and stays stuck on the preparing screen too so I then said Oh its probably taking long because I have too much memory so I left it overnight and woke up this morning and it was still on the preparing screen and I dont know what to do now!

I had to format it, now my PS3 works like new I tried everything nothing worked so I formated it Its really the best choice you have my data was already gone

I Accidentally installed 2 different versions of the same cfw package causing it to freeze up and softlock my system. And it froze and softlocked everytime when loading up the main menu! All it needed was a little rebuilding of the database. Now my ps3 works just like it did before and it is all thanks to your tutorial!! Thank you so much!!

that usually works but try usb update method don't need hard drive unless that's bad. it's on my Tampatec home channel Sony ps3 ps4 Playlist. hope that helps

You guys need a new HDD! Your old Hard Drive is corrupted and can be formated with a sata cabel in your pc. If not? Then buy a new HDD and the black screen is gone :)

Reset the controller : use safety pin
Hold reset button on back of controller for 30 sec. Then try again

+C0DZombies12 if you are on DEX you can downgrade without e3. just download DEX downgraded and your set mate.

leave it on the black screen and then it resets back and starts counting to 100 again and keep doing that until its fixed

Your cod multiplayer will save in your account. The first time I format I was sad I thought I lost my mp data but then it was all in my account

K but take good care of your ps3 here's some advice don't turn of the ps3 when still in a game, quit then turn it off
using safe option 5 (restore ps3 system), will it get rid of your trophies and your online account for gta online and call of duty: advanced warfare ? please reply back

Its becouse you have turn off screen after 20 min and ps3 after 2 h. Disable that in the settings and try again it worked for me
