What happens to the traction motor if the load exceeds?
If load exceeds than full capacity then motor draws excessive current from supply to tackle excessive load and overheated due to excessive current. Note:- This condition is applicable to every electric motors not only for traction motor.

@@babudhi Yes....In electric locomotives there is a regenerative braking to slow down the motor and circuit breakers to trip the overloaded motors
